Current Work - Hospice for the Homeless
Research and Space Programming This graduate level studio began in the fall semester with the development of a space program, user descriptions and architectural vision. This work was accumulated through a series of research assignments and group precedent studies then distilled into space program specific to this hospice center. To the right is a spreadsheet documenting and describing each space in the program and below is an organizational diagram based on spatial adjacency.

As the space program (previous page) developed for this project our studio completed a class-wide site analysis and conceptual study. This effort included mapping various contextualge realities (zoning, educational facilities, public R id R institutions etc.), sun and shadow studies, adjacent material collages, zoning building requirements, and exploring conceptual site solutions. My roles in this effort included organizing graphic standards, content objectives and material deadlines for the class in addition to creating my assigned images. a Av e n

Design Develpment Now in second semester, this design is currently in the design development stage of completion. Using a variety of design methods including model building, diagramming, drafting and sketching, the design of this facility is nearing the end of schematic development and the beginning stages of design development. Conceptualized as a healing environment based on the work of Wilbert Gesler and Ian Clarke, this design emphasizes the need for natural light and prolific views of nature.

The Crossroads Campground is a proposal for a co-working and fabrication studio in Kansas City, MO. Situated at the corner of Main and 20th the building serves as a transition piece in the urban fabric of The Crossroads and Crown Center. The Crossroads neighborhood in Kansas City has a rich industrial history and is now considered Kansas City’s primary arts district. The program of this building is made up of three parts: galley/event space, fabrication spaces and co-working space. The event space, gallery and fabrication spaces are located at street level for proximity to pedestrians, truck delivery and waste management. The co-working spaces are located on the second floor to provide users privacy from the noise and visual distraction of the street below. The entrance is pulled back from the street to welcome pedestrians into a gallery space and lobby. From the gallery there are stairs that lead to the co-working spaces and an entrance to an event space/central courtyard. This courtyard provides a north-south transition to the fabrication spaces and parking lot beyond. The fabrication spaces are finished in CMU and given a glass street-facing facade to create a connection between fabrication users and pedestrians as well as acknowledge the industrial history of the neighborhood. Corten steel and glass enclose the elevated co-working spaces that provide an overhang for the entrance and separate users from the street below.

COOPER HEWITT MUSEUM
N
North facade and main pedestrian entrance
Design Brief The Cooper Hewitt Museum is a project located at the intersection of Houston St. and Lafayette St. in lower Manhattan, NY. Conceived as an overflow gallery and storage facility for the massive Cooper Hewitt collection of objects, this museum blurs the light between gallery and storage by circulating users between stone bearing walls simultaneously store and display objects, provide mechanical and programmatic services, and divide the spatial program into a variety of different uses. The primary gallery spaces and administration spaces exist in two glass volumes that float between
three stone masses. The gallery spaces are located along Lafayette St. to make certain displayed art visually accessible to pedestrians. The main structural loads are transferred through waffle slabs on each floor to the bearing walls that make up the 3 vertical stone masses. These exterior stone walls are also punctuate by vertical openings that emit diffuse light through frosted glass windows. The primary mechanical systems are located in the two exterior stone volumes while vertical circulation and programmatic services are located in the central stone volume.
LIGHT DIAGRAM Drawing inspiration from the Barnes Foundation project by Williams and Tsien, the diffused lighting system is conceptualized as a series of voids within a stone wall. These punctuations create a steady rhythm of soft light along the gallery spaces.
MASS AND VOID The program of this facility is divided neatly into two glass voids between three thick walls. These walls house the mechanical chases and provide the vertical structure for the facility. The central core creates space for services and vertical circulation and lateral stability. The glass voids exist between thin waffle slab floors and are made up of an array of single, double and triple heigh spaces with mezzanines throughout.

FURNITURE 2012 - 2016
Coming from a background of construction and cabinet making it seems unthinkable that I would be able to complete my architectural education without designing some small pieces for my own enjoyment. This mid-century table set is one of several furniture pieces I’ve designed and fabricated during breaks and downtime. This exercise in creativity has proven to be a therapeutic outlet as well as an open opportunity to explore design principals learned through school. For this particular furniture set I used ash wood to make the mitered, grain-matched wooden box that floats over a welded steel base. This base I fabricated using 1” square tubing and 1” angles. Careful attention was given to material joints, reveal sizes and volumetric proportions.

ACADEMIC INTERNSHIP
86 2ND PLACE
86 2nd Place was one of the main projects I focused on during my academic internship at Architect A-2. My responsibilities with this project included surveying and documenting existing site conditions through hand measurements and drafting, contributions to schematic and design development drawing sets as well as material explorations and observation of client meetings and budget negotiations.
8th Street was a project that I joined as construction started giving me the opportunity to observe meetings with contractors and clients as construction progressed. I contributed drawings to design development and construction drawing sets and helped conduct material studies throughout the project. w
