la diversité NICOLAS KUMMERT featuring LIONEL LOUEKE "la diversité" is the major new album from internationally acclaimed Belgian saxophonist Nicolas Kummert (of Drifter, Jef Neve and GrooveTHing and his own Nicolas Kummert Voices). Featuring Lionel Loueke, Blue Note Records’ guitarist and singer from Benin, Kummert’s quartet brings together four diverse and creative minds in a unified album that will propel him to wide international attention. Six of the album’s 14 tracks are actually duets featuring Nicolas and Lionel, highlighting the free-spirited interaction that has developed between them.

Nicolas’ interest in diversity in music has led him to play with African artists (among others) such as Manu Dibango and Keziah Jones, and sees him regularly travel to the continent to play concerts and creative residencies. Nicolas first met Lionel Loueke through Beninese singer Patrick Ruffino, when they recorded the album E wa Ka Djo in 2008. In 2015 he asked the internationally renowned guitarist to join his new band, and they played their first concert in Brussels in September 2015. Lionel also brings a palette of musical diversity with him to the project having shared stages with Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter, Dave Holland, Chris Potter, Robert Glasper and many other international stars during his illustrious career to date. The result is a rich, but never over-complicated musical style that has compelled and excited audiences across Europe and Africa. With Loueke, Thys and Jannuska’s contributions, the album naturally fuses music from diverse cultural roots into a powerful, organic entity. Just witnessing the friendship and empathy that exists between Nicolas and Lionel and their almost telepathic musical bond, it is hard to see "la diversité" as anything less than the beginning of a great musical story. Track listing: 1. Rainbow people / 2. Le vent se leve / 3. Harmattan / 4. Lighthouse / 5. Hallelujah (Leonard Cohen) / 6. Gnossienne (Eric Satie) / 7. Gnossienne a deux (Eric Satie) / 8. Liberte / 9. Nature Planned It THE FOUR TOPS Elemental Music, together with Universal Music Group, present the best selection of Jazz, R&B, Soul and Funk out of print titles from the vaults of classic labels. Mini-LP gatefold replica sleeves; digitally remastered audio. This Elemental Music reissue presents a reissue of Nature Planned It, long unavailable on CD, by one of Motown’s most consistent hitmakers of all time: The Four Tops. With a lineup lasting for over four decades, The Four Tops were probably the most stable vocal group to emerge from the label in the ‘60s, charting with scores of upbeat love songs featuring Levi Stubbs’ rough hewn lead vocals. Nature Planned It was The Four Tops’ last Motown album before the group departed for ABC/Dunhill Records. They would later return to the fold in ‘83.

Released in 1972, this fantastic album contains some of their strongest material. Frank Wilson was again the appointed producer, and the production is top notch, using many of Motown’s highly talented musicians. Some of the recordings truly stand out. The title song, “It’s the Way Nature Planned It”, is one of the group’s best, with an engaging lead and Abdul Fakir, Lawrence Payton and Renaldo Benson’s smooth harmonies. The medley “Hey Man/We Got to Get You a Woman” garnered quite a few spins when released, with a happy optimistic feel that went over well. “I’ll Never Change” and “I Can’t Quit Your Love” are both sung by Stubbs near the top of his register, adding even more fuel to the already dynamic arrangement. Their sensitive interpretations of the title cut and “Happy (Is a Bumpy Road)” are just two of the standout numbers. The soul component is super-high, with tight group instrumentation that reminds us of the best Philly backing combos of the same time. Dennis Coffey and Wah Wah Ragin are on guitars, Jack Ashford handles percussion, and Leonard Caston adds some nice funky keyboards. Track listing: 1. I AM YOUR MAN 4:19 2. (IT’S THE WAY) NATURE PLANNED IT 3:47 3. I’LL NEVER CHANGE 2:43 4. SHE’S AN UNDERSTANDING WOMAN 3:10 5. I CAN’T QUIT YOUR LOVE 3:41 6. WALK WITH ME, TALK WITH ME, DARLING 2:41 7. MEDLEY: HEY MAN/WE GOT TO GET YOU A WOMAN 7:30 8. YOU GOT TO FORGET HIM DARLING 2:42 9. IF YOU LET ME 2:51 10. HAPPY (IS A BUMPY ROAD) 2:58 11. HOW WILL I FORGET YOU? 2:47

Elemental Music proudly presents this remastered edition of the best kept secret of the Spanish Jazz-Rock/Fusion scene: Iberia, the second and last album of the underrated band Música Urbana. Founded in 1976 by renowned Spanish composer Joan Albert Amargós, Música Urbana was a Barcelona-based supergroup which included members of the prog-rock band Maquina! (pioneers of the Spanish underground rock panorama) and other important musicians from the Spanish Jazz scene, such as Carles Benavent (former bassist with Miles Davis, Chick Corea, Paco de Lucía and Camarón de la Isla, among others). Released in 1978 by RCA Victor, Iberia masterfully fuses Jazz-Rock with contemporary classical and traditional Spanish music. It can be considered one of the best Spanish albums of that decade. "If you are a Fusion lover or an open-minded progger you have to listen to this band, they are truly outstanding." FIVE STARS, Prog Archives review Track listing: 1.
