Taziri TITI ROBIN An explorer of his own universe which couldn’t be further from pre-formatted labels and fantasized cultural mixes, Titi Robin takes us on a journey along the ridge trail around the Mediterranean with, at his side, Mehdi Nassouli, an enlightened travelling companion who brings with him his knowledge of Moroccan music. Music lovers will recognise in "Taziri" the legacy of other multi-secular forms of music such as the African source from which blues sprang. Press Enter ROMAIN COLLIN Since moving to New York, French born pianist Collin has rapidly made a name for himself, recording alongside the likes of Mike Stern, John McLaughlin, and Christian McBride, whilst also releasing two critically acclaimed albums as leader: The Rise and Fall of Pipokuhn (2009) and The Calling (2012). "Press Enter" merges Collin's influences into one cohesive and unique artistic vision; blending contemporary and traditional American jazz with European classical music and film scoring, framed within a modern production sensibility. Slow Snow TORE BRUNBORG On a per-capita basis, no other country in the world spawns more top-class jazz musicians than Norway. Although highly respected in the Norwegian jazz scene, Brunborg has until now been known internationally as a sideman for Arild Andersen, Jon Christensen, Jon Balke, Nils Petter Molvær, Geir Lysne's Listening Ensemble and Tord Gustavsen, and then ultimately with international stars such as Billy Cobham, Pat Metheny and Manu Katché who has said "Listen to Tore. I can't explain it, he just does it". However this year, the 54 year-old brings out his own international release, his ACT debut "Slow Snow". Brunborg shows something on "Slow Snow" that many of his colleagues knew but audiences were not yet aware of, right from the start on "Shelter", that he is an outstanding melodic composer and a pianist of masterful touch.

Turboprop ERNESTO CERVINI Innovative and electrifying, Toronto jazz drummer Ernesto Cervini has energy to burn, whether radiating it from behind his kit or working on any number of musical and educational projects. Turboprop features Cervini’s regular quartet with Joel Frahm on Tenor Saxophone, Adrean Farrugia on Piano, Dan Loomis on Bass and Cervini on Drums, and adds Tara Davidson on Alto Saxophone and William Carn on Trombone. The band’s sound is reminiscent to the hard swinging Jazz Messenger bands of Art Blakey, although they tackle a wide range of music from Charlie Parker to Claude Debussy to Radiohead, as well as originals from all the band members.

Duchess DUCHESS Sure-footed swing, sweet-toned harmony and everinsouciant charm are embodied in the new jazz vocal trio Duchess, featuring notable New York singers Amy Cervini, Hilary Gardner and Melissa Stylianou. The group’s debut album – DUCHESS, channels the 1930s inspiration of the virtuosic Boswell Sisters into a wonderfully entertaining and contemporary package. The songs of Duchess range from the Peggy Lee number “I Love Being Here With You” and Johnny Mercer’s “P.S. I Love You” to new twists on “Que Sera, Sera” and the indelible standard “I’ll Be Seeing You.” There’s a playful Gershwin rarity with “Blah, Blah, Blah” and a direct Boswell Sisters homage with their arrangement of “Heebie Jeebies.” And there are solo spots for each of the Duchess ladies with “My Brooklyn Love Song” (Gardner), “A Doodlin’ Song” (Cervini) and “Humming to Myself” (Stylianou). Modern Times YONATHAN AVISHAI Yonatan Avishai is one of the best kept secrets of the new Israeli jazz scene (Avishai Cohen, Eli Degibri, Shai Maestro ...). He has an original style that reactivates the main elements of jazz - swing, blues, improvisation - in a very personal way. The Franco-Israeli pianist is better known for the Third World Love group he co-founded with trumpeter Avishai Cohen, bassist Omer Avital and drummer Daniel Freedman (five albums). After starting in Tel Aviv where he had the opportunity to accompany musicians such as Walter Blanding, Marcus Printup and Arnie Lawrence, he settled in France, becoming a member of the Omer Avital Quintet. He also performs regularly with The Three Cohens, among others, and has developed, under the concept of "Modern Times", its own musical vision.

Utopia LEÏLA OLIVESI For her fourth album as a leader, pianist Leïla Olivesi was inspired by interplanetary travel invented in his novels by writer Cyrano de Bergerac in the seventeenth century. Between Utopia and social criticism, adventure novels and philosophical discourse, the "States and Empires of the Sun and the Moon" was a major work of his time that foreshadows science fiction. A modern work in which music is a universal language! Belleville Project JEREMY UDDEN & NICOLAS MOREAUX The meeting between New England born saxophonist/composer Jeremy Udden and the French bassist/composer Nicolas Moreaux was quite serendipitous. Udden was house-sitting in Paris and inquired via social media whether there were any musicians interested in playing a session. A session was quickly arranged where the saxophonist first met Moreaux. Udden had already cemented an identity in the jazz world with his unique voice on alto saxophone and his compositional leanings toward rock and folk music through his "Plainville" and "Folk Art" projects. Having made a name alongside the likes of Tigran Hamashian and Bill McHenry, Moreaux came with tremendous jazz chops and an equal enthusiasm for similar non-jazz idioms. The two musicians bonded over their common interests and kept in contact. Out of their correspondence the idea for a new project formed naturally, in which they would work together to blend musical elements of French and American folk, rock, and film music into jazz composition. By a stroke of luck their idea fit into the guidelines of the competitive French American Jazz Exchange Grant (from the French American Cultural Exchange and the Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation). They won the grant, giving them the financial means to turn their idea into reality. The outcome of their work is the Belleville Project, a name referring to the neighbourhood in Paris where they recorded.
