LUMOT LAKE Lumot Lake is also known as Sierra Lake. A man-made impounding reservoir. It was one of the sources of drinking water of the residents of Barangay Lumot-Mahipon Cavinti, Laguna.

ORIGIN

ORIGIN The word lumot translates to “moss” in English. There isn’t any moss in the lake of course. The name applies to the deep-green color of the lake.

ORIGIN

• The lake was created when Lumot Dam, an embankment dam, was constructed damming the Lumot River, • Creating an auxiliary water reservoir for Lake Caliraya as part of the. Kalayaan Pumped-Storage Hydroelectric Plant • It was built by American engineers in 1943

ORIGIN

According to the residents of Cavinti, Lumot Lake is a former rice field and it is has many small rivers before. The rivers always overflow because of the heavy rain, in solution to this the residents together with the local government officials decided that the rice field, coconut grove and the rivers be converted to a large river but later on it is called Lumot Lake that became the foundation of fishing industry in the town.

LOCATION

LOCATION Lumot Lake was found in the town of Cavinti. Cavinti is a 3rd class municipality in the Province of Laguna, Philippines. It is situated in the foothills of Sierra Madre mountain range, and part of the 4th congressional district of Laguna. The Municipality of Cavinti lies on the eastern portion of Laguna.

CHARACTERISTICS

CHARACTERISTICS The elevation of two man-made lakes, the Caliraya and Lumot Lake, built for hydroelectric purposes are about 292 meters.

CHARACTERISTICS Just as other surface waters (lakes, ponds, streams etc.) Lumot Lake also consists of freshwater.

CHARACTERISTICS The water in Lumot Lake is mostly calm. Around the middle there’s a weak current, and in the morning it’s possible to get sweep away.

CHARACTERISTICS Lumot Lake is less developed than the bigger Lake Caliraya but both lakes are popular spots for water sports and largemouth bass fishing.

SOIL TEXTURE Aside from the lake itself, the islands around it are also distinct in themselves. The soil seems to be made of red clay. Toward the lake it slowly turns to mud, and soft clumps of it cling to the feet. Underwater, it feels smooth and silty.

SOCIO-ECONOMIC Many of the residents of the town made the lake as a source of income that helped them in their economic development. Some of them were boatmen, fish farm owners, fish vendors, fishermen.
