Registration and fellowship start at 9:00 a.m. Pastor Karl Biermann from St Mark Lutheran Church, Cuero, TX will deliver the sermon. Special music will be by the Bethany Lutheran Church Men’s Choir.

which time they were accepted as members. In 1888 another building was built for the school and the families held church service there. On April 22, 1890 the people joined the American Lutheran Church Synod of Texas and signed the constitution to become a formal organization named “St. Johannes Evangelische Lutherische Kirche zu Crabapple, Texas”. At the annual congregation meeting held on December 26, 1896, it was approved to purchase six acres of land from August Bruns and a type of building was voted on. On June 18, 1897 the cornerstone dedication service was held by Pastor Glatzle, Pastor Krienke, and Pastor Haag. With the help of many volunteers, the building was completed in 1897, and on November 21, 1897, the last Sunday in the old church year, the new Following the morning worship ser- church building was dedicated. vice, a chicken barbecue meal will be served in the Crabapple Community The St. John Lutheran Church Center Hall. Historical information tells that many families living in the Crabapple community originally were members of Zion Lutheran Church in Fredericksburg; however, because of travel distance and other difficulties, they started to meet in the Mathias Schmidt home. When a school building was built in 1877-78, the families met in it and Pastor Weiss served this devoted group of Lutherans. ARE YOU REGISTERED TO VOTE??? VOTER REGISTRATION AVAILABLE THURSDAYS AT HARPER LIBRARY SEPTEMBER 4, 2014 THROUGH OCTOBER 2, 2014 4:00 PM UNTIL 7:30 PM ** Deputy Registrar will be here. ** NON PARTISAN Dear Harper Community, This will be the seventh year we participate in the Food 4 Kids program. We had 47 children in our program. Elementary School Nurse Sheley Smith and elementary teachers determine which children need our assistance. The following items are food that we can give our children: List Of Food – protein items are the hardest items for us to find • Peanut Butter (12-oz jar) and a sleeve of crackers • Beans and Franks (pop-top can) • Beef Jerky (1 oz) • Cereal (1 oz bowl or box) • Fruit Cups (peaches, applesauce, etc) • Fruitables (apple flavored) juice boxes • Pudding Cups • Juice Boxes (apple, orange or other juice) • Milk (aseptic pack boxes that do not require refrigeration) • Cereal Bars or granola bars The Food 4 Kids program provides kid-friendly, self-serve food for the weekend to those elementary school children most at risk of going hungry over the weekend. Some kids look forward to the weekend. For others, the weekends are a time when they go hungry. The hot meals at school are the only filling meals that some children get. Monetary donations may be sent to: Food 4 Kids-Harper, Needs Council, P.O. Box 73, Fredericksburg, Texas 78624. All donations are tax deductible. Food donations may be left at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church or call Sylvia Taylor, 864-5436 for pick up.
