Alpaca Classic 2012 Why Alpaca Classic 2012? We believe that Herd co-operation is the way forward to creating a strong alpaca industry. We have clearly proved the success of Herd co-operation in the most prestigious event of the European Alpaca Calendar, the British Alpaca Futurity, of which both Bozedown Alpacas and The Alpaca Stud have been Sponsors since its inception. For Alpaca Classic 2012, our Herd co-operation gives the UK and European alpaca breeders the direct access in Europe to purchase World Class bloodlines, plus the opportunity to have an enjoyable fun weekend of learning and socialising with other like minded people. Bozedown Alpacas and The Alpaca Stud have joined forces for the Alpaca Classic 2012 in order to put on an exceptional weekend with world renowned guest speakers. Our Speakers are from the UK, USA and Peru. There will be Seminars, Workshops, trade stands and the opportunity to obtain our top proven pedigrees - alpacas with exceptional bloodlines. Meanwhile, there will be an all day bar, hog roast and good food with a fun atmosphere. This is the first Elite Auction of Alpacas in the UK, and it has a unique twist! 30 Alpacas will be offered for sale of the very highest standard. However, within this auction we are going to try some innovative ideas to add some fun and give breeders the unique opportunity to take home the very best we have on our farms.... Rather than bid on single entries why not choose the alpaca you want to take home? Both Bozedown Alpacas and The Alpaca Stud are each Auctioning off a 2010 born male..... here is the twist!...... The successful bidder gets to select from all of the 2010 males born and owned by that farm and decide for themselves which one they would like to take home! If you do not cast the successful bid on the 2010 male then there will be another opportunity to do the same on a female born in 2011. What a great opportunity to purchase the latest genetics from one of or both of these leading herds. This might be the right opportunity to consider buying a top quality male by syndicating with near neighbours or friends within the industry. In the spirit of innovation we are also offering generous finance terms tailored to individual requirements - see Page 7.

The Alpaca Stud was formed in 2005 by Nick Harrington-Smith & John Potts. John had recently retired as a managing partner for a major city law firm having bought his first alpacas in 2003. Nick had spent the previous 7 years managing the largest alpaca stud in Europe for an Australian company following on from a lifetime of livestock farming. With that company changing hands, the opportunity to set up in business with John came at an opportune moment and thus The Alpaca Stud came into being. Nick had been for seven years, as well as working for the Australian company, managing an alpaca herd belonging to Groupo Inca of Peru, and this herd was to be kept and managed by The Alpaca Stud and ultimately bought by them in 2010. To add to the genetic base already controlled, Nick and John in 2005 toured North America and purchased breed lines with already proven records in the highly competitive North American market. These animals included, amongst others, the now highly renowned Dovecote Jaquinto. In 2009, we identified the genetic lines we needed to add to our genetic base and Herdsires were purchased from the famous Snowmass herd in North America, ultimately arriving in the UK in 2010. In early 2013, we will see further much coveted bloodlines arriving from Snowmass to bring us a greater choice of proven and highly awarded colour genetics from the USA. With a genetic foundation ranging back to the infamous Shere Khan in Huacaya, and MacGyver in Suri, coursing through the bloodlines of both our Stud male and female lines, we are confident that we offer a genetic pool that allows you access to world class genetics, of world-wide repute, in the UK and Europe. The Alpaca Stud Objective: To breed alpacas that represent the breed type at its best, be it Suri or Huacaya. Our alpacas must be of the highest quality, with good health, sound conformation and genetically predisposed towards heavy cutting weights and longevity of fine fibre production, so often described as “lingering fineness”. Alpacas bred for commercial fibre production, not just the show ring.
“Bozedown Alpacas” is a name synonymous with highest quality, reliability and support, ensuring that our customers return time and again. We are genuinely enthusiastic about the alpacas we breed and sell. Our business is built on providing the best possible advice and service to our customers, supported by our wide range of World Class genetics. We supply prizewinning breeding stock to many other highly successful alpaca breeders. Bozedown has amassed a wealth of knowledge with over 23 years experience in the alpaca industry, which we are always keen to share. We offer a comprehensive range of services, such as stud services, livery, consultancy and a range of courses, along with a wide range of prize-winning Suri and Huacaya genetics for sale with comprehensive back-up. Joy Whitehead bought 5 alpacas in 1989, and Bozedown Alpacas was born. Niece Mary-Jo Smith joined her in 2000, and together they have proved a strong team in selection and breeding of both huacaya and suri alpacas. Now with more than 800 Alpacas, Bozedown Alpacas has won a phenomenal number of Champion and Supreme Champion alpacas and other show successes over the years. Outstanding genetics have been imported since 2000 from the renowned Jolimont herd in Australia, and so we have some key genetics from Australia as building blocks in our Bozedown pedigrees, e.g. Jolimont Sculptor and Jolimont Conquistador among others. More recently Herdsires Jolimont Reagan and Jolimont Rodrigo have made a valuable contribution, and premium pedigrees from Magical Farms in the USA are also adding further potency to our breeding lines. Bozedown Alpacas Objective: Our breeding aim is to build improvement into each successive generation. We have already achieved healthy strong-framed huacayas and suris with excellent conformation and advanced fleece types, and so we now concentrate our breeding aims on further advancements in fleece fineness and fleece weights to satisfy a growing strong fibre industry. The Alpaca Classic auction includes some of the best breeding ever produced at Bozedown Alpacas, and is your opportunity to build on our success by including more of Bozedown’s outstanding genetics in your breeding programme.

Seminars & Workshops Form and Function the Foundation of Success - Presented by; Brett Kaysen (USA) A seminar that explains the relationship between alpaca conformation, good health, and being “fit for purpose”. Brett’s inimitable style and flair will entrance you whilst making all transparently clear.
The Practical application of Estimated Breeding Values - Presented by; Alonso Burgos (Peru) Alonso will demonstrate the practical application of Genetic Valuation or EBV’s, how it is “real” and has a direct relationship with the future of the textile industry, but also its limitations. He will demonstrate the advances made at Pacomarca by using EBV’s, and how it has advanced their breeding programme for commercial fibre production.
The Show Ring and Processing, are they compatible? - Presented by; Alonso Burgos (Peru) Alonso will, with Latin charm talk about the relationship between the show ring and the textile industry needs. Does the appearance of the alpaca matter? If so, why? In discussion for Alonso’s presentation, he said: “We were just sorting our new crop of cria at Pacomarca the other day and realised how little, in many instances, does the appearance of the animal really matter when it comes to fibre that would be desired by the textile industry”? We will hear some interesting facts, not often aired outside of Peru, about qualities and quantities, and the prices the International market is willing to pay for certain special Alpaca products.
America’s most efficient Marketing tool equals Participation in Live Auction as a Buyer and Seller - Presented by; Brett Kaysen (USA) In this presentation Brett will relate the successful development of the American market, and its relative stability in these difficult times. With the use of Auctions as a tool for positive marketing by both buyer and seller he will persuade you not to be frightened of auctions.
How to create a numeric scoring System for your Alpacas - Presented by; Brett Kaysen (USA) Brett will teach you how to tailor a scoring system that will allow you to evaluate and record your own alpaca and herd traits. If you are not ready for EBV’s this might be the the first step on the way.
Advances in Alpaca Genetics and Implications for Herd Improvement - Presented by; Claire Whitehead (UK) This talk will discuss the exciting recent advances in alpaca genetics research and how the information and tools from genetics research might be used to allow breeders to make rapid herd improvements through selective and careful breeding choices. The future is now!

This lot containing 2 females is presented to you so that you may have final choice of the alpaca you would “most like to take home” from the pair. We are confident that both alpacas presented offer tremendous scope within any breeding programme, yet offer enough subtle differences to be attractive to a broad selection of breeders. We wish you well in your deliberations, as we couldn’t split them!
The Jessamine herd has effectively been part of The Alpaca Stud genetic pool for the last 16 years and has focused in the main on breeding darker colours or grey. Hustle is an outstanding product of that programme showing a phenotype worthy of the lighter colours, with a strength of frame and substance of bone to match. Hustle carries a fleece that represents the progress made in the production of black fibre, it is fine and soft, well structured, and bright, all in all a high quality black with phenomenal strength and depth in her pedigree. She is a female that we have guarded jealously for the past few years and only offer her in this auction because we will keep either Hustle, or Dark Harvest, the other half of this novel offering; the choice is yours. Offered with the benefit of a pregnancy to the incomparable Alpaca Stud Nytimber Hustle offers the discerning buyer an exciting opportunity.

East Anglia Alpaca Mill .co.uk The proof is in the processing!
We can process both Huacaya and Suri.
We are pleased to advise our UK based service is now providing fibre testing services to
UK and European customers
We have bespoke machinery designed and built onsite. We operate a ‘slot batch’ system minimising away time. We process client runs, not colour runs. Our minimum order is one fleece. We offer an ‘express’ service option. This is definitely not our hobby!
As Alpaca breeders ourselves, we know how much time and effort you put into your herd throughout the year. Subsequently we also understand the need to maximise the return from the fibre. This is why we set up East Anglia Alpaca Mill. Please visit our website for prices and further information. East Anglia Alpaca Mill, The Orchards, Beighton, Norfolk. NR13 3JU Tel. 01493 750429

In addition Pop Idol is pregnant to Dazzler of Bozedown; so with this added genetic pool, this pedigree cria to come is one not to be missed!

This of course is even more important when selecting the genetics for Herdsires of the future. Haymaker carries the depth of genetics with some of the most respected names in British pedigrees present, rarely seen in one British bred male, a testament to his genetic value. We have decided to offer him in this novel manner and leave the final choice to the purchaser, because we ourselves cannot split him or The Pugilist, the other male offered within this lot. She is carrying uniformity of the fineness and handle throughout her fleece. We have been using Galaxy over some of our black females to improve the density. We have used Galaxy for this as he is renowned for his density; also because he is not colour dominant and generally throws the solid colour of the dam. We have had great success in using Galaxy across colours. We have put all his offspring from black back to black and have had a very high percentage of blacks being thrown. Nimbus is no different and she has been mated to Bozedown Prospect who is a son of Shiraz (BLK) and we expect a very special cria. We want to give someone else the opportunity to purchase Galaxy’s colour genetics and continue the advancement on these strong black genetics.
