Snorkeler and Diver Photography

Google are creating underwater landscapes for everybody to explore through interactive imagery; this highlights general interest an opportunity for product development.

Snorkelers and scuba divers enjoy recording their experiences in photo and video format.

Concept Description Key Insight/Technology - This waterproof camera will be able to capture images from a viewpoint other than the snorkeler/diver, whilst capturing the entire moment. Performance Driven Form - The form of the device will allow it to glide through the water smoothly and add stability for taking photographs. The device is tethered to the user so they can retrieve it with ease. Overall the device will allow the user to capture images that they would not be able to capture with a regular waterproof camera.

Take the camera to the snorkelling location, it can be tied to your shorts using the nylon rope.

When you’re ready to use the camera underwater you can fasten the Velcro wristband to you wrist. This tethers the camera to you so it can be retrieved with ease.

As you dive underwater hold the camera and prepare your throw.


Please note the rope is wrapped around the arm for demonstration purposes. The developed product would house the rope on a winding mechanism within the rear of the camera. Rope Length - 5 metres.

When you launch the camera it will glide through the water towards the point of interest that you wish to capture.

Using the wristband you can take the photo at your chosen time when the camera is in the desired position. Choose between a 3600 semi sphere image captured with all 7 cameras and stitched together or a single front camera image.

Model

The camera splits at the split line. The rear section houses the rechargeable battery and SD card as well as a rope winding mechanism.


Three fins help the camera to glide smoothly as they enhance its stability in the water.

The front section of the device houses 6 cameras around the body, and 1 front facing camera. These take pictures in sync with each other and stitch the 7 images together to create a semi spherical image.
