Reference
My response For my reponse to the reference on the left, I have rasterized a ‘W’. Then selected it, and selected the images and used paste special, which creates a layer mask for the image, creating a multiple exposure effect. Finally using the orignal ‘W’ layer as a shadow.
For these images I have created an artificial fog/ mist effect by using a layer mask and gradients overlaid using the blending mode screen.

JOSEF SCHULZ
PHOTO SHOOT E.X. 1
Josef Schulz is a photographer of modern warehouses and factories, documenting buildings that nobody would want to think would be of any major architectural interest. But their exteriors offer interesting geometric image or subjects. For some of his images for example the images on the left, may seem quite simple at first. But by the use of digital manipulation Josef tranforms his orignals into yet otherworldly scenes, by removing the typography from the commercial signage and transplating urban architecture from its cluttered surroundings into bare backgrounds. Also by subtly blurring and fade their backgrounds in the post-poduction of the images removes them from originlal context. Creating the effect that the images have been captured in a different era entirely.

DUNGENESS PHOTO SHOOT
For these images I travelled to Dungeness as the area is full of moden architecture in a area that seems to be completely abandoned. Also contrasting with the moden architecture there are derelict old boats and fishing huts. Being that it is an overly captured area I have tried to take the images from a different perspective and use unusal framing. Also diffrent aspect ratios.

For processing these images I have used lighroom. Firstly adjusting the wight blances to make them have a cooler tone, also adjusting the exposure. Then adding a colour tone graduated filter, enahansing the sky and creating a colour fade. Making the images more mysterious.

DEVELOPMENT
For theses images I have developed them further by opening them in photoshop and responding to Josef Schulz by using the same technique by using an adjustment gradient layers, masking out the building and making the background have a faded mist effect. My Images For this series of images of towers, I have referenced Matthias Heiderrich as he uses the same grid layout and use of ‘white space’ that I have used. I have also edited these images in the same sort of style using the different tones of the blue.

HOLGA 120
The camera I have chosen for this shoot is a Holga 120, as it allowed me to capture the images in a squire format., fitting with the grid idea.
The Film I have chosen for this is an expired Fujicolor pro 120, as it will give me more unpredictable colours making the images more interesting. Also as it is a pro standed film it will give me a more professional look and sharpness to the images.

ARNAUD MERCI-
Arnaud is a contemporary artist who began his career as a film editor and then progressed to 3-D design and art direction. He led the 1999 launch of the world renown Elixirstudio. For these images I responded to Arnaud Mercier. I have taken two images from my Dungeness shoot, into photoshop, then I have separated parts of the building on to different layers, making it look like it’s floating. I have also overlayed colour overlays to change the colour tone.

DAVID CARSON
David Carson is an American graphic designer best known for his innovative magazine design, and use of experimental typography; known to us now as “grunge typography. Also he breaks traditional rule of layout. He was also one of the first people to use digital computer aided design.

RODRIGO DE FILIPPIS
Rodrigo De Filippis is a graphic designer from Argentina. His work Is very abstract, combining random objects, animals and buildings, as well an Old typography, creating very surreal images. He also uses faded colour that compliment each over very well on top of old paper.

DOCMENTATION
To make these three images I have taken images and made them a strong black and white with the channel mixer. This making it easier to overlay on top of the main images, in response to Rodrigo De Filippes.

ALBUM ART WORK REF.
TYPE REF.
I have chosen these images as the two on the left are very 60’s style. Then the two on the right are very modern, which contrasted well, so I can use them to reference from when I’m creating my typography for my two vinal covers, that I have decided to be two of the main assets to my final piece.
28
29
TYPE DOCUMENTATION
For these typography designs I have used both hand drawn and digital illustration, to create different looks that compliment the style well. For ‘The Auctioneers’ type I have done in Illustrator to get a very clean look as the record cover that I’m going to use it for is very modern. Then for the ‘Physiographic Orchestra’ I have hand drawn it to fit with the 60s style of the type.
VINYL RECORD COVER DEFor my vinal record cover Designs I have taken my collage images and put them in to a record cover template. Then added my type for the band names. Also keeping to a colour scheme.

VINAL STICKERS
RECORD LABEL POSTER 32
For these two record company posters. I have taken assets from my vinyl covers, then tweaked them to fit the scale that the posters would be. Also in the second Design I have taken previous images and re-edited them to fit. 33
ILLUSIONS
This reference of 3 vinyl covers the artist has added illusions to the images for a more dynamic and energetic look. The images behind will appear when you look at them from a different perspective. Also when the covers are moved they change their pattern, simulating speakers.
LAYOUT 1
34
For this layout I have made it simpler and minimalistic by having the Record Company poster on the left, then the two vinyl covers on the right, with the vinyl half out. That can be removed for a closer look at the vinyl sticker artwork. This will all be mounted on wood painted grey to separate the black vinyls from the background.
35
For this re- design I have used the idea of illusion, creating a speaker illusion by making a circular pattern in Illustrator, where if you overlay two over each other and move the one behind it will create an illusion. So I have decided to print one as a record sticker then the other as an acetate layer.
