B. Makaibari Tea Resort Type Location Year Plot Area Status Team Software

Hospitality Project West Bengal, India 2015-17 10 arce

Ongoing Construction Se-Arch Revit, Autocad

synopsis: The Makaibari Tea Estate is generations old, known to have highly forested areas intermittent to the tea gardens. The site is as challenging as it is beautiful. Sloping eastward, there are intermittent ridges and swales. Seasonal streams traverse it adding to the dramatic landscape, especially during the monsoons. A village path used by tea pluckers to get to their village downhill is part of the site. The intent of the tea resort is to get an atmosphere of natural scenery with studied rusticity and simplicity of a timeless era in today’s context. The project was totally designed in revit.

Design Proposal: The design goal is a detailed master plan for an 80 key luxury hotel built on 10 acre tea estate. Along with the tea pavilions, the hotel will also have banquets, conference facilities, all day dining, private dining areas, a bar, a specialty restaurant, a spa, a gymnasium, a home theatre, deli, an entertainment area and a swimming pool, all set amongst tranquil gardens and terraces. The building’s dominance on the site is lowered as they are placed linearly along the slope fitting slim so as to minimize cut & fill. Connectivity between buildings is on flat easy walkways & buggy dependent circulation and connectivity is minimized. Come, oh come, ye tea-thirsty restless ones- the ketteboils, bubbles and sings, musically... -Rabindranath Tagore

Residential Project Delhi, India 2015-16 12000 sq.ft

Completed Romi Khosla Design Studio Autocad, Sketch-up

synopsis: The Project is located in maharani bagh on a dramatically tapering site. It is a 12000 sq.ft dwelling for a family of 4. The building is conceived as 3 distant masses that respond to the geometry of the site and the program. the narrow front position of the house is the public space and on its lower two floor houses the spilt level living rooms and the upper two floors the double height family room. Materially, this block is stone cladding and wood louvers in the front. the fenestrations on this block follow the inner program of the building and are designed outwards and as such follow irregular geometry. the front stone block is attached to the rear by a brick and concrete block which follows a strict geometric pattern grid on its facade and accommodated within it the private living spaces of the family, the bedrooms and the closets.

This entire building is a single height in section and materially is constructed of exposed brick, exposed concrete and exposed steel. This counters the irregular fenestrations of the front public space with a strict regular grid reinforced by the steel sections of the facade. on the western facade, the brick block is set back from the boundary wall of the property by a meter to allow more light to penetrate the building and to allow for all the services to be placed along it.

Urban Cultural Intrevention Mumbai, India 2014-15, Thesis 2 Arce

Synopsis: Thesis involves a study of a significant paradigm in architecture- Deconstruction as a method to demonstrate the alteration of knowledge that compelled paradoxical shift of modernism and its influence to the built environment. As strong system of ideas developed, a linear approach towards architecture grew that neglected past in process to embrace the new economic, political and social aspect of emerging modern world. But, “Every structure and systems of thought has its own seed of downfall”- Jacques Derrida.

the “de” in deconstruction: Societies adapted to the modernism until a time came where various people started questioning the linear set of ideas that were developed my modernism. These people as artist, philosophers etc tried to rethink, re-frame the existing collective ideas of modernism. They made past as there catalyst to dissect the source of construction, the ideas, the process that was involved to built the final product. They added the so called complexity into the existing art to derive the hidden elements giving rise to a movement called “Post Modernism”. Past defines the foundation of an idea Analysis deepest layer of a system

Society In Flux !! Architecture is dealt within a dialectic force of changing society. A constant force of improvisation is acted within a society when interaction with the built environment gets unstable. Human interaction with architecture is one of those factors that leads to the ongoing cohesion between society and environment. a society has a whole is never stable, there are multiple changes happening within it and yet as a whole with the complexion it destructs its originalsource of its development. De/re construction is a process of analyzing the issues that causes the insensitive nature of development to its original source and to rearrange, resettle, recreate and reconnect past present and future to eradicate the complexion prevailing in the society.

The Concern !! In this constant flux in society...insensitive growth of settlement happens that aggregate the notion for the downfall.

Fort Precinct:

It marks the historic extent of the original fortified town which was planned to be the center of business for overseas trading, merchandise etc which within years exploded into being richest urban precinct of India. Development of program were designed physically and visually reinforcing the original fortified settlement. (Sub Fort Precinct). In present context the urban society is under a flux between its architectural physical transformation and sustaining the heritage value of the fort. The repulsive nature the Fort to hold on to its heritage value neglects the pressure for the development at larger urban scale forcing insensitive transformation.

urban proposal: The proposed urban intervention deconstructs insensitive growth of historical business district which is on the edge to deteriorate and revive a controlled environment that imbibes a positive effect on the community in its immediate vicinity as well as in urban scale.

site: ballard estate: it was developed as an office district on land reclaimed from the sea. The architectural character of the estate is neo-classical that reflect strong gestures of stone and facade strikes the most with every facade having its own unique qualities. One of the first business district which was articulated with a planned approach which had railway connection which connected the overseas trading. indira dock: it is one of the oldest dockyard governed by Mumbai port trust which is quite functional and open to the ballard estate that handled the offices for overseas trading. Current barriers created to safeguard the port activities have led to the disintegration and the breaking of connections with the city as a whole. Multi Hybrid Project Hypothetical Site 2013-14, 4th Year Exhibition & Cow Shed

synopsis: In order to deal with today’s complexities and bring back to the forefront the relevance of architectural interventions, “process” will have to play a critical role. The Project was amalgamation of two completely independent & different programs on a given hypothetical site. The approach towards designing was meant to be analytical, differentiating the two relevant programs with various methods to generate a multi hybrid space that seems unconnected but is connected.

analysis: The movement of a Cow with its rotation in Cow Shed, its process towards the production of milk, hygiene, convenience & safety factors. It was important to identify the hierarchy needed in the process leading to healthy production of the milk. The movement of a

Visitor with its rotation in Exhibition Center, the process towards exploration, experience and interaction. It was important to identify the hierarchy of thoughts prevailing when exploring an exhibition.

programmatic fusion: The core idea was to identitfy the programs based on the movement and factors including social, visual, physical connections. It was important to diffrentiate spaces based on public and private as well.

Synopsis: The project is about honoring the historic significance of deteriorating buildings while reinventing them for modern contexts and usage.

Site:

United mills is one of the oldest existing non-functional mill in Mumbai. Located in one the prime areas, it is surrounded with residential and commercial buildings and well connected with metro station. One of the oldest functioning cultural theatre- Bharat Mata is located in the mill. connected well with metro and flyover takes care of major vehicular movement

Design Prosposal:

high pedestrain movement from the metro towards the site

transition of people into the commercial section through heavy unmanaged pedestrain trials

The core idea was to re-imagine, renovate and reignite the original structures by fusing in a structured & programmatic cultural intervention based on preserving history and highlighting the passage of time instead of demolishing or disguising it. mill facade as background story was restored. The design was implemented to connect and navigate the exiting high flow of people, redirecting them into the mill area and hence creating transitional spaces to various cultural activties that included workshops, theatre, exhibition galleries, shops, studio & open amphitheatre.

Nirantara Multi functional street furniture The design was an urban furniture which takes its form from the continuous which takes its form from the continuous cycle of mobius loop. True to the word “loop the seating starts off the crest where it extends to the ground as a hand support with fludic spine. This continues as a low level seating by the end of it twists and turns and on changing its axis forms another seating at higher level. The circulates into the ground plane thus resuming the cycle of continuity. The composition reflects the original character of the lithographs and emphasizes the idea of continuity.

Multi interactive street furniture In physics, motion is a change in position of an object with respect to time and its reference point, “ CONTINUITY ” is a form of motion. With the basic idea of a knot from a continuous band of material, two usable horizontal levels are created in order to have a multifunctional piece of furniture. The use of the piece varies as per user. The two horizontal surfaces can be used as a comfortable seating area or even as a casual lean table. It also acts as a collector’s item. The piece can be placed outdoor or indoor with a change in material.
