THE SITE
ESTABLISH MAJOR AXIS
The given site of this competition is situated in the Agafay desert of Marrakech in Morocco, and more precisely 40 kilometers from the city, at Lalla Takerkoust which provides a perfect setting to get in touch with nature.
Considering the direction of the oasis Iland, one natural axis is established ,orienting the builtup towards the water element. Another Secondary axis is established considering the MECCA direction orienting the mosque towards it. 06
PROGRAMME DISTRIBUTION
ELEVATING THE CIRCULATION
The precint requires two main and three sub programme types.Programmes are organized according to their individual axis. Each programme is presented by individual volume.
A strong initial design decision is made to elevate all the circulation pathways to protect the cluster from a tide and sand dunes and also for not disturbing the existing quad bike tracks.

02 THE MONOLITH The Design programme was to create a museum and art gallery in the heart area of surat considering the contextual and future developing aspects and keeping in mind the modern contextual area around the site.
It is like a sketch by a sculptor for his sculpture, not merely an illustration of an innate part of the work of creation, which ends with the constructed object. - Peter Zumthor 17
THE SITE The site located at the corner of a road junction has a shape of a trapezoid and is 9000sq.mt in area. As shown in the diagram, There is less builtup density and more open spaces around. The location of a site is in a heart of a city area of surat and has the airport and vnsgu as nearby areas. But as the site is at the corner of a road junction and is surrounded by main and secondary roads, that zone becomes busy and noisy all the day.
18
CONNECTED OPEN SPACES AND BUILTUP FOOTPRINTS As The site is surrounded by Roads in Two sides, The East zone of a site near the secondary road which is more noisy, is accommodated as a parking and the North zone of a site near the main road which is more open, is best suitable for Open Space or Landscaping.
19
PROGRAMME DISTRIBUTION The Precint requires two main programme and one sub programme types. Programmes are organized horizontically to retain all required adjacencies. Each programme is represented by an individual volume. So The west courtyard will be almost shaded because of the Around builtups and other open spaces will be illuminated throughout the whole day.
20
EXTRUDING UP THE MONOLITHS As the idea is to exhibit the museum as a modern sculpture for the city, The solid and bold monoliths are introduced which are extruding up to the high level and also gives the whole form a bold modern look and creates Dark , Tall and slender volumetric Tower kind of spaces for the exhibitions.
21
CHAMPHERING AND CARVING EXTRA MASSES The museum programme accommodates the activities like excitement, fun, movement, flow, aggression and conflict And to create a Dynamic but balanced composition in 2D and 3D both, A strong initial design decision is made to champher Two of the Monoliths to a Rhombus shape that creates the dynamic axis. Then following the axis with a secondary dynaimc move that creates the inside atrium and other exhibition spaces.
22
THE PLAZA The west courtyard which seems like it is growing or pushing itself towards the north open space, Acts as a Plaza because of the activities and nature of the surrounded functions. The Auditorium, Cafetaria, Outdoor exhibitions and the sculpture pathway gives the whole plaza a rich bold and aesthetical look. The two monolith duo in the plaza crates a seperate axis for it and the axis continuous as a central pathway where there are raised platform both of the sides for the sculptures creating a sculpture pathway.
