THE GAME

Hartford is in the midst of a nine-game homestand, hosting Manhattan. It’s the second time these two squads have met this season, splitting a doubleheader on March 3.

SCOUTING THE OPPONENT

Manhattan is on a seven-game losing streak after a 7-6 loss to Columbia Wednesday. The Jaspers allowed five runs in the top of the seventh inning for the crushing loss.

Marika Deemer is the lone player hitting over .300 for Manhattan, posting a slash number of .358/.469/.623 with five doubles, three home runs, and a team-high nine RBI.

Opponents are hitting .365 against Manhattan pitching as the Jaspers have a 6.49 ERA on the season.

LAST TIME OUT

The University of Hartford softball team managed four hits Wednesday in falling to Bryant, 5-0, at the Hartford Softball Field.

Mara Sczecienski extended her hitting streak to eight games with her fifth multi-hit game of the season. The second baseman was 2-for-4 on the day, accounting for half of the Hawks’ knocks.

Olivia Wolk and Samantha Nagel were responsible for the other two Hartford hits.e as the Hawks fell short in the nightcap, 5-4. She scored two runs with three RBI. English was clutch in the circle, striking out half of the 14 batters she faced over three

innings. The senior allowed one earned run on one hit with seven strikeouts and three walks in her outing. Lauren Card, 3-2, took the loss – allowing four runs, three earned –on six hits over four innings. She had three strikeouts and four walks.

STREAKING

Mara Sczecienski has raised her batting average more than 120 points during her current eight-game hitting streak. Buoyed by her 4-for-4 performance in the Siena nightcap, she is went from .259 to .389 over this stretch.

She began with a two-homer performance against UT-Chattanooga and has been hitting rockets ever since. During her streak, Sczecienski is 14-of-27 with three doubles, four homeruns and eight RBI.

IN THE CARDS

Senior Lauren Card has seemingly rebounded from a tough 2022 season as she is leading the team with a 3.00 ERA. Her three wins have already eclipsed her career total of two coming into the season.

Part of her success has been her ability to command the strike zone. In 38 innings last year, Card 13 walks and eight strikeouts. Thus far in 35 innings, she has eight walks with 24 strikeouts.

NEXT ON TAP

Hartford welcomes Fairfield to the Hartford Softball Field 2:30 p.m. Tuesday for a seven-inning game.
