Standard (threaded)
The headset and steering tube are connected by a thread which is also to adjust the play.
cups are pressed in to the top and bottom of the head tube. The bearings are lying in these cups on the outside of the frame.
Ahead (threadless)
Semi-integrated
The threadless system is only compatible with threadless steering tubes. The cap bolt is responsible for adjusting the play of the headset bearings which is connected to a star nut that is driven down in to the steering tube. Carbon fork tubes need special extenders which are included by the manufacturer. The stem can be tightened after adjusting the bearing pressure. This system is lighter than common threaded head sets and reduces the installing time. Two bearing 44
Semi-integrated headsets reduce or allow an individual overall height. This headset is also called internal or Zero Stack (ZS) because the bearings sit inside of the head tube.
Integrated
Completely integrated headsets forgo the traditional press fit. The bearing seats are machined in to the headtube with 36° or 45°. The bearing cups can be tool less placed and the bearings are integrated in to
them. The advantage is weight reduction.
Tapered
This case means that the down side of the head tube has a larger press fit diameter than the upper side. The suspension fork can now have a continuous steering tube in 1 1/8” or a tapered tube that has downwards the diameter 1.5” and upwards 1 1/8”. The advantage is a higher stability by less weight.
