Harvey Art Projects USA proudly presents Spinifex Arts Project. This exhibition brings a collection of outstanding large format paintings to Sun Valley. The Spinifex Arts Project was established in 1997 at Tjuntjuntjara, a small and extremely remote Indigenous community located in Western Australia’s Great Victoria Desert, west of the border with South Australia. The initial works on canvas by the traditional Pitjantjatjara owners of Spinifex country were made to record and document ownership of the Spinifex area. These artists paint with passion and integrity, visually documenting their connection to the desert country, to their family, and to the recording of tjukurpa and inma (story and ceremonial song). The artists embark on extended bush trips to create their work, producing fine art focused on the traditional culture and story of the Spinifex people. Their paintings emit remarkable power and have a beauty and rawness unique within Aboriginal Australia.
