different story on draft night, because everything will most likely change. With the first overall pick in the draft, the Carolina Panthers selected QB Bryce Young, which was not that much of a surprise. Young’s ability to scramble and throw accurately down the field is one of the reasons why he was drafted first overall.
The next pick in the draft was by the Seattle Seahawks, who had a need at the cornerback position. They selected Devon Witherspoon out of Illinois, a great corner who brings great defensive ability to the Seahawks squad.
would technically be his fourth loss to Pereira. The pressure motivated Adesanya, as he trained incredibly hard for the fight and successfully defeated his rival by second round knockout.
The finish was spectacular, as Adesanya baited Pereira into hunting for a knockout and lowered his defense in the process. Right as Pereira closed in on him, Adesanya countered with a huge right hand that jolted Pereira back, and after an equally powerful follow up right hand, Pereira was unconscious.
In his post-fight interview, Adesanya stated “I hope everyone watching can experience this level of happiness at least once in their life.” During the post-fight news conference, Dana White stated, “(Adesanya) is a true fighter…he’ll fight anyone.” White has often praised Adesanya for his high activity and love for the game.
After the results of UFC 287, Adesanya has proven why he will go down as one of greatest mixed martial artists of all time.
The NFL draft is held every year, when college players can secure their dream of making it to the NFL. This year, the draft was on April 27, 2023, and it ended on April 29. This year’s draft featured many high profile players that bring great athleticism to any team looking to draft them.
Some of the top players this year come from universities like Alabama, Georgia, Ohio State, TCU, and more. According to the CBS Sports Mock Draft, players that were projected to go top 5 in the draft included Bryce Young, C.J Stroud, Tyree Richardson, Anthony Richardson, and Will Anderson Jr.
Although mock drafts can be helpful in projecting draft picks, it is a
With the No. 2 overall pick, Houston Texans selected QB C.J. Stroud out of Ohio State. Stroud has great speed and throwing ability, and he will provide a huge boost for the Texans this season. The Texans also traded for the No. 3 pick, which was originally owned by the Arizona Cardinals. With the third pick, they drafted edge rusher Will Anderson Jr. out of Alabama. Anderson Jr. is arguably the best pass rusher in the draft, and he will be an improvement to a Texans team that was not very good defensively in the 2022 season.
The fourth pick of the draft was by the Indianapolis Colts, who selected 6’4 QB from Florida Anthony Richardson. Some NFL scouts consider Richardson the most athletic QB in the draft ever. Richardson has been compared to former MVP QB Cam Newton, who out of college had a similar build and athleticism as Richardson.
According to ESPN.com, the first offensive lineman came off the board at sixth overall by the Arizona Cardinals, where they drafted 6’6 OL, Paris Johnson, who was a beast at Ohio State. His size and strength is why he was drafted so high in the draft, and he will provide a huge boost for the Cardinals next season, who needed offensive linemen.
Next on the clock was the Las Vegas Raiders, who selected Defensive End Tyree Wilson. Wilson was a projected top five pick but fell to the Raiders at the seventh pick in the draft. Wilson has great speed and technique at the defensive end position. He and Max Crosby will create a great defensive duo on the Raiders.
Raiders super fan and Harvey senior Razi Tanksley stated that he is “hyped that the raiders drafted Wilson, as he will provide a day one impact, and Raiders fans can expect him to be an important contributor.”
Jumping to the 14th pick in the draft, the Pittsburgh Steelers were on the clock after trading up and drafted Offensive Linemen, Broderick Jones. Jones is a 6’5 offensive beast, who will help the Steelers protect their young QB, Kenny Pickett. According to Steelers GM Omar Khan, he said, “We just felt like Broderick Jones was a Steeler.” It goes to show that the Steelers are ecstatic about their pick and ready to see him play.
According to NFL.com, The New England Patriots traded back to the 17th pick in the draft, where they selected arguably the best Cornerback in the draft, Christian Gonzalez. Gonzales was a huge steal at pick 17 for the Pats, and Patriots fans are excited for the future. Gonzalez brings great IQ to the Patriots squad and is a great athlete. Gonzalez will make a day- one impact on the Patriots, who love bringing in tall outside DBs.
This year’s NFL draft had an immense amount of talent, and hopefully all of the draftees play to their potential to help their respective teams win a championship.
