What is MIST?
MIST is the Muslim InterScholastic Tournament, an academic program of over 32 different competitions and a weekend of workshopsgeared toward bringing high school students together from around the nation to develop leadership, communication, and other creative skills, all while gaining a deeper understanding of Islam and Muslims.
Why does it exist?
One of the main objectives of MIST is to encourage the youth (of all different faiths) to develop the skills needed to represent Muslims and the true peaceful spirit of Islam in a professional manner, through the media, creative arts, and other forms of public interaction.
How does MIST work?
MIST has regional tournaments all over the nation during the spring and a national competition every summer for the winners of each region. The diverse set of competitions include everything from debate to basketball, to culinary arts. MIST provides trophies, awards, and prizes to all the winners, along with scholarships for the top individuals and teams.
STEP 1: Identify Total Fundraising Amount Let’s assume 15 team members need to raise $100 each, for a total of $1,500
STEP 2: Break it Out Into Small Chunks
$100 per person can be broken down into finding 10 people to donate $10 each or 5 people to donate $20
STEP 3: Get Creative
1. Start an online Launch Good Campaign 2. Organize a 5K 3. Host an auction 4. Run a bake sale at your school/ masjid 5. Have a community bbq cook- off at a local park 6. Host a board game tournament 7. Invite your friends to a fundraising ice skating night 8. Do a team-wide garage sale 9. Host a percentage night at your favorite restaurant 10. Ask friends for $10
STEP 4: Keep At It, and Stay Persistent
Don’t give up! You may not get a “yes definitely” right away, but keep reminding them and be consistently persistent. Most people are eager to donate, but need gentle reminders.

MIST helps me build my professional skills, strengthen my relationships with other high- achieving students, and it creates an awesome space for me to creatively express myself.
