We have to talk about Bexit - yes you read that right the divisive Bexit Text

M y #St even age by Dar r en Ist ed Wow we really are divided on this one and there can be no way to find a route forward other than to forget the past and forge our own brave new future. Once a decision is made then it is made there can be no turning back, a deal is a deal, even when it is a hard one, and there can be no more negotiation. Bexit is Bexit. Read my lips, read my words, Bexit is Bexit. The fact that Ben Kennedy left Boro so suddenly only adds to the urgency and the lack of certainty for the future. Ah, you thought I was referring to something else? Not a bit of it. That farce may cut ice elsewhere but as the 'charge' to the play-offs continues for Boro then it is the departure of Kennedy to Newport that will reverberate around the world's first New Town for literally days to come. Ben Kennedy's exit was a shock and perhaps that's why the reaction online, on the Borochat Forum and on social media was so split. Take a look, it's amazing how 52%-48% the reaction was, some lamenting the end of the world for Boro with the loss of a talisman, others equally delighted to see the back of the undoubted star. Me? I'm still amazed that

he is just 22. It feels as if Ben has been playing for Boro for at least 10 years. As for the other big Bexit in town, the plan to remove Barclay School and put it in the Academy system, it lumbers on despite great protest. Strike action on one side, lack of action on the other. Whatever your view on this issue there can be little doubt that politics both local and national has taken a hold on this school and its future - and when politics takes the upper hand, those at the sharp end can be sure their wishes will come last.

Trans service set up providing access to much needed support When a service is unavailable locally and it is sorely needed you create it yourself right? This is what happened to me. I realised through several friends and family members that a vulnerable group of people living in Hertfordshire had no support groups available for them. Transgender (Trans) adults (18+) were having to travel to London to access their support network. I created two groups the first for those who are trans and the second for those who support them, such as families, friends and significant others. They both run monthly in Stevenage. We launched in September 2018 and the group is growing rapidly each month. This group of

people are more at risk of self harm and or suicide than any other group of people. This service is essential for them to know and be able to attend a safe space each month to access support in all aspects of their lives and to be accepted without question. The website is Tsgherts.uk and there are links on there to our Facebook page or you can simply search for TSG HERTS. As a newly formed group we are actively fundraising for funds. We will be holding a quiz night soon and are seeking donations for our raffle. If you can help please email info@tsgherts.uk If you identify as trans or support a loved one who is trans then please feel free to contact us. Fiona Brook

Action on rogue landlord Stevenage Borough Council made a Prohibition Order on 3 November 2014 under the Housing Act 2004, prohibiting the occupation of the attic room at 40 The Noke, Stevenage. The Order was made due to the poor standard of works to convert the attic to habitable accommodation, which had resulted in a serious fire safety hazard and one of excess cold, which amounted to category 1 hazards under the Housing Act 2004. Environmental Health Officers carried out an inspection of the property on 19 July 2018, acting on information received by the Council which suggested that the attic room was in occupation. During the inspection, officers found that the attic room was occupied in contravention of the prohibition order. Although some fire safety

improvements had been made, the staircase leading up to the attic room was deemed a serious safety risk, as it had been constructed within a cupboard and was excessively steep, with no handrails, and no guarding above the staircase opening. Officers also found that required improvements to the heating and insulation within the attic room had not been made. As a result, the property owner, Mr Nasif Botros, was prosecuted under Section 32 of the Housing Act 2004, for the offence of contravening a prohibition order. At a hearing at Luton Magistrates? Court on 19 December 2018 he was found guilty in his absence. He received a fine of £1,760 and was ordered to pay the council?s full legal costs of £2,571.45 as well as a victim surcharge of £170. The council has been using new powers that came into force in

Read, en joy an d sh ar e

April 2017, to deal with rogue landlords. This has allowed the serving of Civil Penalty notices as an alternative to prosecution for specific offences with fines of up to £30 000. Cllr Jeannette Thomas, Executive Member for Housing, Health and Older People for Stevenage Borough Council, said: ?The majority of landlords in Stevenage provide a good standard of accommodation and much needed housing; these are the landlords we want to keep and encourage to Stevenage. ?We will not tolerate the few landlords who provide substandard accommodation and have a disregard for the health and safety of tenants. However, Stevenage Borough Council will continue to use enforcement action such as prosecution, civil penalty notices, banning orders and rent repayment orders to deal with unscrupulous landlords.?

Stories From the Gordon Craig Stevenage Arts Guild has received a Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) grant of ÂŁ60,000 for its latest project, ?Stories from The Gordon Craig?, which will explore the heritage of Stevenage?s Gordon Craig Theatre. Made possible by money raised by National Lottery players, the Arts Guild are working in partnership with Stevenage Museum and The Gordon Craig to reveal fascinating and inspiring stories from the theatre?s 43-year history. A team of local volunteers will be trained to work alongside staff at the museum in cataloguing and digitising the theatre?s extensive but unexplored archive of posters, brochures, programmes, press-cuttings and photographs gathered since the arts centre?s opening in November 1975. The project aims to produce a full timeline of events at the theatre which will be freely searchable online later in 2019. HLF funds will be used to properly store the

collection within the Gordon Craig complex for future reference by the public. Work with the archive forms the backbone of this year-long project designed to celebrate the role the theatre has played in the cultural life of the town and beyond. Later in the year, there?ll be an open call to audiences and amateur and professional performers alike to contribute memories of their time at the Gordon Craig, culminating in a new free exhibition focussing on the theatre?s social history at Stevenage Museum opening in the Autumn. Lottery funds will also support a programme of reminiscence activities for those in the area living with dementia, encouraging the sharing of happy memories of performance. Stevenage Museum are keen to hear from those of all ages interested in volunteering on the project ? working with the archive, cataloguing, digitising, carrying out interviews and research and

helping curate exhibitions. No experience is necessary, and training will be provided. Email takepart@storiesfromthe gordoncraig.org.uk or phone 01438 218881. Commenting on the award, Hilary Spiers, chair of Stevenage Arts Guild said: "We're delighted to have received this support to enable us to celebrate 43 glorious years of The Gordon Craig Theatre and really tell its story so far! It will be great to work with Stevenage Museum on another project and we look forward to a very productive and inspirational year." Councillor Richard Henry, Executive Member for Children, Young People and Leisure at Stevenage Borough Council remarked: ?This project forms an important part of our 10-year Cultural Strategy as we embark on enhancing arts and heritage in Stevenage and, in particular, The Gordon Craig Theatre, Stevenage Festival and Stevenage Museum.

Bid to get regen plans going Stevenage Borough Council announced it will be requesting a Judicial Review into the temporary Holding Direction of its Local Plan. The Stevenage Borough Local Plan was submitted to the Secretary of State on 21 July 2016 and received a positive Inspector?s Report in October 2017 recommending its adoption. It remains under a temporary Holding Direction which means the council cannot progress its plans to modernise Stevenage. The council has launched Judicial Review proceedings to address the delay and obtain a clear response from government. Sharon Taylor, Leader of Stevenage Borough Council said: ?I am calling on the Secretary of State to release the Stevenage Local Plan with immediate effect, and support us in building new homes, creating jobs and regenerating our town. We have worked closely with residents, different organisations, and local groups to have a clear Plan for the town. These conversations started

back in 2012, with several stages of consultation so that everyone can have their say. Having a clear Plan in place is vital for the town, to protect our open spaces, offer new homes for our families, provide space for new jobs, and to help revitalise crucial parts of the town. ?A government-appointed Planning Inspector agreed that the Stevenage Borough Local Plan is sound and with minor wording changes endorsed the council to sign off the Plan. However, in November 2017, the government put in place a temporary legal order to stop the Council adopting the Plan, so that the Secretary of State could consider representations from the local MP. This has caused a delay of over 14 months, affecting plans for jobs, homes and the regeneration of the town. We have worked closely with government colleagues to provide information to support a swift decision from the Secretary of State. ?It is with real regret that our only

Read, en joy an d sh ar e

option is to start legal proceedings. It remains my hope that we will see a positive response, and my door always remains open to find the best way ahead. I remain passionate and confident about Stevenage?s future. We have started to see new homes being provided, with over 168 new Council homes completed towards our target of 500.? Following the imposition of the Holding Direction, the council provided detailed information to the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government (MHCLG) with all questions responded to by the start of last year. Stevenage?s proposed local plan, will replace the previous plan that was adopted in 2004, it sets out proposals for regenerating the town centre, creating employment opportunities and revitalising neighbourhood centres as well as allocating sites to build around 7,600 new homes across the town by 2031, including at least 25% affordable homes.

Just Be A Child charity set for major boost Text

A Stevenage-based charity which has transformed lives in Africa is celebrating six years of vital work thanks to the support of business and individuals in #Herts. Just Be A Child was founded in 2013 following a visit to Kenya by Lenka McAlinden. Touched by the kindness and happiness of children whom she came into contact with, Lenka saw that although they had next to nothing they were willing to share whatever they did have. With hardly any infrastructure in place and no finances to build play facilities or buy toys or anything educational such as books, Lenka was determined to set up a charity on her return. Just Be a Child, the charity sees 2019 as a major year of change with its drive to provide support to other areas of Africa, although Kenya still remains a key focus. Lenka believes it is a good country to work in for a number of reasons: ?Working in Kenya is a lot easier. The official language is English, so our books come in handy. The closeness to the areas we work in of Kenya?s biggest port, Mombasa, makes shipment a little bit smoother. There is limited regulation or other official

obstacles to overcome. But more importantly, the children are so hungry to learn and the community so stuck in their ways that without a little bit of external intervention it is unlikely they will find a different way. Books can help them.? The aim of Just Be A Child is to create and support libraries & learning centres in poor but aspirational Kenyan communities, and to foster a culture of education and self-development. It is a target of the charity to create at least one library & learning centre every year and along with this to also build libraries on behalf of other organisations and distribute books to applicants. As more and more books have come in to the charity Books Across Borders has been reliant on the vital support of removal and storage specialist Dollimore and Christie. Based in just outside of Hitchin, the business has stepped up and offered vital storage space

for the books and equipment due to be shipped out. Each library & learning centre contains 5,000 books, learning material, many toys and games and arts and crafts material. The cost for each of these is ÂŁ15,000 and they are made out of a converted shipping container. They collect in excess of 10,000 books for readers of all ages. They also need toys, games, jigsaw puzzles, pencils and much more including furniture. The communities are chosen very carefully and with their help convert the 40ft container into a fully operational library & learning centre. Along with funds and books, there is also a demand for craft equipment which is now being sent out and used in Kenya. To find out more how you can help the charity call 07737 500 501.

Robbo on pressures as careers wind down Former Stevenage football Mark Roberts lamented Wayne Rooney's latest indiscretion in Washington DC when the former England captain was arrested for being drunk at the airport.

arguments that the fact Rooney is a multi-millionaire should insulate him from problems, saying that many professional sportsmen miss the adulation as their career winds down and ends.

Rooney was held on a public intoxication charge on December 16 and taken to jail to sober up after he triggered a door alarm at Washington Dulles Airport ? incurring the wrath of his wife, Colleen, who berated him.

Mark Roberts, who is still playing for Warrington Town, is a huge United fan and Rooney was a personal idol. He is now studying for a Master of Business Administration degree at the University of Salford, with the degree focused on chief executive officers in sport.

On TalkSport Radio, another former England footballer, Danny Murphy said he thought ex-Manchester United star Wayne was in the early stages of finding it difficult to 'transition' into a life after his playing days are over. And Mark, who played 200 games for Stevenage and was twice caretaker manager, says he missed Murphy on radio but had read his comments. 'It's an issue I'm really passionate about,' he said. ?For me it?s about educating athletes at the earliest age possible and, as it happens, I?ve just begun some consultancy work as a life skills mentor for the League Football Education. ?It?s primarily with the 16-18 age group and what we?re trying to do is to give them the tools they will need so they are better

So is understanding. PAUL FRY on # St evenage

Battle of Barclay still raging for all concerned

By the time you read this Barclay School may well have been the subject of a forced takeover by a privately-owned multi-academy. Forced in the sense that it is not what the parents of children at the school want, nor the staff. They feel victims of a government ideology that is driven by profit at the expense of the pupils' welfare and futures. And they are adamant that it as not necessary or desirable as the formerly failing school had turned a corner under a new management team and had in fact made more progress than

could have reasonably been expected. Campaigners against the move believe the school's next Ofsted report will vindicate their efforts and that nobody in authority listened to them ? and indeed arrogantly brushed aside their objections. That includes the Department led by Damien Hinds, and even the Stevenage MP, Conservative Stephen McPartland, who dismissed the complaints of staff and parents as ?scaremongering?. Staff had been sufficiently opposed to organise a series of one-day strikes. Parents and

Read, en joy an d sh ar e

pupils, helped by community leaders, including county councillor Joshua Bennett Lovell and teachers' union rep Jill Borcherds, who works at the school. At issue from the Hands Off Barclay campaigners' viewpoint is that the school is performing well but the move to hand over control to a multi-academy trust makes it less accountable to the public and stokes fears that profit will be wrung out at the expense of the pupils, and staff wages and conditions. The arguments on both sides have been well reported but Mr Bennett Lovell says that for him it is a moral issue ? privatising

Text profits and riding roughshod over democratic control of education. He said: ?The current leadership team, brought in two years ago when the school was struggling are doing a very effective job. Parents are generally very happy with what has been done to turn the school round. ?It generally takes seven years ? a whole cohort of pupils to do this but the improvement in just a short time at Barclay has been remarkable. ?A previous proposal to have involvement of the Herts for Learning Trust would have been a partnership. They invested many hours in looking at the site and what they needed to do to take the school forward. Yet the new trust being foisted on the school, Future Academies Trust, have spent less than two hours there. ?We fail to see how Lord and Lady Nash and Paul Smith, of Future, can be across what the school needs in such a short time. There is a kind of arrogance to assuming they know all about the school just because of their involvement with other schools.? He added: ?We are worried about the loss of control and accountability and the fact this is being hurried through. The change was meant to happen in April but that was changed to February 1. The date is entirely arbitrary. I suspect it was because the government has been failing and they want to hurry things through. ?The move will mean no elected local authority influence in the running of the school, which is a worrying and backwards step.? He said parents were eventually given a 24-point

Text improvement plan by Future ? long after it was requested in June, yet having doubtless gone through this procedure with other academies it had taken over. Mr Lovell Bennett said: ?It was provided only on January 17 ? barely two weeks before it becomes a done deal. We could not make any legal challenges without seeing this document, so this has left us too little time and we have petitioned and appealed to the Dept of Education for an extension. ?Essentially this is in the minister Damien Hinds's gift to delay this and give it some proper thought ? for the sake of all the pupils, their parents and staff. ?The minister could pause this but chooses not to and our MP, Stephen McPartland, merely makes light of our concerns. ?The thing with academisation is that it was initially viewed as a success largely because the best-performing schools had been cherry-picked. Now the more challenging schools are being moved across. ?But there is clearly no proven educational benefit to be had from this - and we lose local authority control and oversight. And yet the county is being asked to pay ÂŁ339,000 to the new trust to take Barclay School off its hands. ?Yet the trust takes on none of the risks... If the school has a deficit, the county must pay it. If there is a surplus, the privately-owned trust keeps that money ? none is returned to the county pot. ?It is privatising profits and socialising losses, which is morally wrong.? Mr McPartland had earlier said:

Read, en joy an d sh ar e

Text ?The academisation order was made in 2016 by the regional schools?commissioner. This is a political campaign that started over two years later, in November 2018, by the Labour Parliamentary Candidate [Jill Borcherds], as she works at the school, and local Labour county councillor [Joshua Bennett Lovell]. ?The only way to remove an academy order is for the school to get good in an Ofsted inspection, which they have sadly failed to do. ?The campaign has no real support among parents or staff, many of whom felt pressured to take strike action and are now looking for other jobs.? Mr McPartland also pointed to Thomas Alleyne and John Henry Newman ?flourishing as academies?, putting the concern about Barclay?s academisation down to ?silly scaremongering?. The campaigners dispute his view, saying strikes and a petition of almost 3,000 signatures ?rubbished?that opinion. Mr Bennett Lovell and Mrs Borcherds ? in her capacity as Barclay?s NEU rep said: ?It is abundantly clear from his response that the MP is totally unaware of the details of the situation, which should be unsurprising given that he hasn?t once met with parent campaigners or staff in the several months that this issue has been known about.? At the time of writing it was not clear whether the campaigners' efforts were in vain.

Tips to deal with a funeral during winter With the weather turning chilly, Austin's have put together some tips on dealing with a winter funeral WHAT TO WEAR Keeping warm will be a key factor in your choice of outfit as you?re likely to be spending time outside viewing the flowers and chatting to mourners after the service. You might want to layer your outfit with a cardigan or jumper that can be removed if you get too hot. Likewise, a thick coat will keep out the chill and be easy to slip off when you?re inside. If you particularly feel the cold you may want to wear some thermal underwear. And don?t forget winter accessories such as hats, scarves and gloves ? as well as keeping you toasty, these can be used to add a little bit of colour, if that?s what your loved one would have liked. CHOOSING THE FLOWERS There are plenty of winter flowers available for wreaths and floral arrangements. For something different, you could include pine cones, fresh spruce and eucalyptus, or perhaps go with a white and red theme for a December funeral. If, on the other hand, you want a more warm and colourful arrangement, think about including tropical flowers, many of which are available all year round. If you need help with

your floral display, our florist (Daizy flowers] will be pleased to advise you. HANDY HELPERS Tissues are always useful to have to hand ? but with winter sniffles you might want to take an extra supply, for you as well as other mourners. If it?s raining take an umbrella plus a spare one just in case yours breaks or you lose it. When the weather?s really cold, you could take a hand warmer, which will easily fit into a pocket or handbag. And finally, remember that wintery weather can cause problems driving so have de-icer on standby and a spade in your car

in case of heavy snow. POST-FUNERAL RECEPTION A cold buffet is usually the simplest way to cater for mourners after a funeral, but when the weather is cold you may want to offer a hot option such as soup or stew. You could use your loved one?s own recipe it and personalise it with a menu card, like ?Nan?s hearty vegetable soup?.As well as tea and coffee, you could offer a fun option such as hot chocolate with marshmallows and sprinkles. * Austin?s are here to help you with funeral planning. Please get in touch with us on 01438 316623.

Tollers Stevenage office is excited to be expanding its Corporate and Commercial team and building on the services they offer to the local business communities they serve. The Tollers corporate and commercial services team specialises in providing practical advice to owner-managed businesses on a wide range of legal issues that may arise from inception of a business all the way through to exit. The team advises on business reorganisation and restructuring, shareholders?and partnership agreements (which are often required when a business is in its infancy), through to securing that all important exit when the business owner has an opportunity to sell or retire. Craig Harrison the Head of Corporate at Tollers says; ?Having worked in the local area throughout my professional career I understand the importance of building strong foundations in the local community and providing solutions for the needs of clients. At Tollers we pride ourselves on the fact that we advise businesses on the important issues that they find themselves facing, everything from mergers and acquisitions, commercial contracts, regulatory issues, joint ventures, asset and property acquisitions and corporate finance right through to insolvency and corporate recovery.

The Stevenage team welcomed Danielle Sher earlier this month who has joined the Commercial Property team as a Senior Associate having previously worked at a central London law firm. This addition only strengthens what we have to offer our client base and, alongside the rest of the team, ensuring that we are able to assist owner-managed businesses and corporates to prepare for the future and ensuring that their interests are protected which in turn enables them to do business effectively and efficiently?. Assisted by specialist colleagues in our employment, commercial property, dispute resolution and restructuring teams, Tollers is able to offer a joined-up approach to often complex, multi-disciplinary legal challenges. In an ever changing legal and regulatory landscape, strength in depth has

never been more important. It is also important to recognise that in such a fast-moving legal climate, clients will often want much more than just traditional legal advice. Commerciality in approach and strategic advice is what many clients now demand and at Tollers the teams deliver a seamless service with a commitment to providing solutions and ensuring that clients make the most of their opportunities. For more information on how the corporate and commercial team at Tollers can assist you with your businesses legal requirements? Talk to Tollers on 01438 901095 and the team will be happy to assist. Join the SportScene team There is a new radio show on the circuit that any sports fan in the area would be mad to miss. SportScene started broadcasting their weekly show earlier in August on SG1 radio, the online radio station broadcasting live from their studio in Stevenage Town Centre. Presented by Steve Watkins, Jay Drackford and Dean Thompson, there is a wealth of local sporting knowledge that has been tapped into, with the trio aiming to showcase any sport local to the area. Steve Watkins said ?It was an idea that was dreamed up by Jay, who quickly shared his thoughts with myself and Dean, and we were hooked. We went to station owner Ray Medwynter and he loved the idea, and two weeks later we were live on air! ?In the first show we were honoured to have former Arsenal goalkeeper Bob Wilson as a guest, speaking about his charity, the Welwyn Garden City based

?Willow Foundation?, and his golf tournament recently held at Hanbury Manor. ?The response has been phenomenal in the early days. We have had local clubs represented, with sports including Football, Netball, Running, Iron-Man, Cricket Rugby and Cylcling, and have even included the great work being done with the Aqualina Synchronised Swimming club. ?It has so far been a case of building relationships with the clubs, so that we can follow their fortunes in the future. But we are also keen to get involved ourselves, with Jay already running the local Park Run, and Dean is lined up to have an evening of Synchronised Swimming, which of course will be covered on the show! ?We still need to hear from any new clubs with a story to tell, whether it be news, results, fixtures or events, and we are happy to speak on the phone, get guests into the studio , or simply

read out any news from a club. The aim is to cover ANY local sport, without prejudice or bias. Where at all possible of course!? The show can be contacted at any time via email at sportscene@sg1radio.co.uk, via twitter @sg1sportscene, or on the SG1 Radio Facebook Page. The show is broadcast every Wednesday evening between 9-10pm, and can be accessed at www. sg1radio.co.uk, on mobile phones by downloading the SG1 Radio app, via tune-in radio on a smart device such as sonos or alexa, and is also now being broadcast live with video on Facebook, which has added an extra dimension, and encouraged interaction from the sportspeople of the area. Previous shows can also be played again, with links on Facebook and Twitter. For further details, contact the team at sportscene@sg1radio.co.uk

Founded by Tony Putterill in 1992, with our first office in Welwyn Garden City, Putterills are now celebrating 26 years of serving the Hertfordshire community. We have grown from our original branch in Welwyn Garden City to having offices in Knebworth, Hitchin, Stevenage Old Town and St Albans, as well as a partner office in London?s Mayfair. Each of our sales offices are overseen by a Director who is actively involved in the day to day running; this helps to ensure that we are providing the highest possible levels of advice and service. All of these offices are prominently located to ensure all properties receive the best possible exposure. In addition to our network of sales offices, we have an award winning Land and New Homes department. Our specialists help landowners maximise the development opportunities for usually previously

used land known as Brownfield, as the country struggles for space for new homes. We have always believed that our task is to provide our clients with the best, up to the minute, expert advice when dealing with what is usually their greatest asset. Our clients have a wide range of emotions and circumstances and we help guide less experienced first time buyers, provide yield information and advice to investment buyers, schooling information to families, hold the hands of those who have not moved for many years and deal sensitively and professionally with those. Over the last few years, we are proud to have won a number of national awards which we believe underline our philosophy of being Trusted Property Experts. 2017 saw Tony Putterill retire and hand the reins of the company over to Mark Shearing. Mark has been in agency in Hertfordshire since 1982

and joined Putterills in 1993. As the company moves into a new era with changing markets, advances in property marketing and the use of technology, our aim is simple - to keep at the absolute forefront of full service Estate Agency and to continue the exceptional levels of service and advice that our clients have been able to rely on over the last 26 years. Our primary purpose has always been to provide an outstanding customer experience and our core values continue to represent this: EXCEPTIONAL ? we are passionate about delivering excellence. RESPECT ? we respect and value those we work with, both our colleagues and our customers. EXPERTISE ? we deliver outstanding skills and knowledge in all we do. TRUST ? we act with honesty and integrity at all times.

Portfolio - for serviced apartments in #Herts Text

Tel 0800 0248 914

Booking a holiday is possibly one of the greatest feelings and counting down the days when you?re having an awful day at work or are just desperate to get away from home can seem like a joy, but there can be a downside. Hotels. While some people may see staying in a hotel like a dream, it can actually be a nightmare if you?ll be staying there for a long time, especially if on a business trip or secondment. With that said, here are the top reasons to stop staying in hotels for your business travel trips. Limit ed Wardrobe Space Packing for a holiday or for a business trip puts you on one of two teams, you?re either naturally gifted and find it a breeze or it?s the worst part of the trip for you, but one thing unites these two camps ? limited hotel space. If you love to pack an outfit for every possible occasion you will know how difficult it can be to cram your clothes into tiny hotel wardrobes, or even worse live out of a case. Staying in a serviced apartment fixes this and means you have a home away from home and all the storage you could need. You feel like you?re t rapped Walking into a hotel room can at first glance feel wonderful, everything is conveniently within arm?s reach and for the first day you love it. Then the second day comes and the third day and by the fourth you feel like you almost can?t breathe. Hotels just aren?t feasible for long periods of time or for anyone who likes a sense of space, after all, who wants to feel trapped by the same four walls for the entire of their trip? Privacy? W hat privacy?

w w w.por t f olio-apar t m en t s.co.u k

Hotels may seem like a good idea for a romantic night away, but if you?re travelling with family or small children or even colleagues, then all sense of privacy goes straight out of the window when you?re all sharing a room just feet away from each other. Forget staring dreamily into each other?s eyes when you wake up, you?ll probably be staring at a toddler who immediately wants to play or be woken by another family member?s snoring and that?s not even mentioning the housekeeper who always turns up at the most inconvenient times! Serviced apartments let you have time to yourself no matter how many you have brought along for the trip, so you can sleep well and feel like you have privacy if you are all loved up. Money money money! Straight to the point hotels aren?t cheap. Even for the savviest of spenders and the keenest bargin hunters, you may think booking your hotel means it?s all done, dusted and paid for but you will undoubtedly end up incurring extra fees. Whether you give in to the lure of room-service with its extortionate service charges, or buy a film to keep energetic youngsters occupied, your bill when you check out can hit you like a smack in the face and leave you wanting a more affordable option. Meals on wheels Speaking of room-service, while this may seem like a decadent treat on the first night, by the time you come back from a long day of exploring and are tired, it is so easy to have a burger brought straight to door along with its crazily hiked-up price and extra delivery charges. This can not only wreak havoc on your bank account,

but also on your waist-line and by the time you leave, the only thing that will be thinner is your wallet. Serviced apartments absolutely win here, as having a fully equipped kitchen at your fingertips means it?s easy to rustle up something quick and delicious that will probably be healthier for you and will also save you money! If you want some tips on how to eat well when working away from home check out next weeks blog post, or check out our apartments to find out why it?s time to say goodbye to hotel hell and wake up to apartment heaven! Though staying in a hotel may seem like the obvious option at first, there?s no denying that a serviced apartment brings with it a number of benefits that a hotel just can?t offer. At Portfolio Serviced Apartments we specialise in providing luxury serviced apartments and temporary homes for corporate and business travellers. We offer a secure spacious base which can become a home from home for longer staying guests. Portfolio Apartments are located throughout all of Hertfordshire including Stevenage, Welwyn Garden City, St. Albans and Hatfield, whilst through our partners we have access to over 90,000 luxury apartments across the globe. So whether it?s a placement in St Albans or a secondment in San Francisco, Portfolio is consistently the favoured choice for travelling professionals. For more information, get in touch. Our team at Portfolio looks forward to helping you soon. Give our friendly team a call on 0800 024 8914 (Mon ? Fri 9-6pm) or visit our website to view our modern serviced apartments.

Making the Wrights choice

Wrights is proud to be an independent estate agency with our own unique values and ethos. We have been in business in Hertfordshire for over 30 years and our experience in helping our customers to buy, sell or rent their properties is second to none. Over the years we have built a professional and enthusiastic team and we now have three branches based in the towns of Hatfield, Stevenage and Welwyn Garden City. Wrights was founded in 1983 by Melvin Wright. Melvin was an experienced estate agent who began his career working for W.H.Lee based in the village of Ware and then moved on to their Stevenage office. As he progressed in his career Melvin was asked if he would open another branch of W.H.Lee in Harlow. Whilst pondering this decision Melvin happened to see that a shop unit in Hatfield was for sale and this made up his mind ? he would start his own estate agency! He picked up the phone to the agent and said he wanted to buy the unit, and so

Wrights Estate Agency was born on the 15th August 1983. Due to Melvin and his team?s hard work and determination Wrights Estate Agency really took off in Hatfield. Just 10 years after Wrights first opened its doors in Hatfield Melvin made the decision to open another branch in the lovely town of Welwyn Garden City. And so in 1993 Wrights of Welwyn Garden City was founded. As the Wrights team had such a wealth of knowledge about the Hertfordshire housing market it made sense to open another branch, and because Melvin had previously worked in Stevenage he decided to based his next office in this lively town. Wrights were the first independent estate agents based in the town centre and where we led others followed - it soon became a prime location for a number of estate agencies. Independent agency, independent values When asked just what makes Wrights so successful we tell

people that it is our independent values and experience. We pride ourselves on our professionalism, our knowledge and our honesty. We really care about our customers and put them at the heart of everything we do. Our success is also built on great teamwork and our family values extend to the whole of the Wrights team. We make our offices a welcoming place to work and this is evidenced by the fact that we have team members who have been with us for over 20 years! So now you know our history let us help you plan your future in the property market. Whether you are looking to buy, sell or rent get in touch with any of our three branches and we will be happy to help you. 19 M ar k et Place, St even age Tel 01438 312312 h t t ps:/ / w w w.w r igh t sof .com / br an ch / st even age/
