DAViD HoUgHToN
1944 – 2024
Originally from Stockport David moved to Wanborough and was a regular on the Chris Lane Terrace for over 40 years, throughout the ‘glory years’ and onwards into his retirement. In that time, he became both a season ticket holder and shareholder. More recently David relocated to Rudgwick but still returned for the occasional game when health permitted. David will be warmly remembered by many supporters and our thoughts are particularly with his wife Pam, children and grandchildren at this sad time. Many of them are present today.
MAttHEw EAgER
1974 - 2024
Matt was football through and through; originally a Fulham fan before becoming a regular following Woking. Matt was never far from a football pitch, also coaching countless kids at Goldsworth Park Rangers. After moving to Liverpool in 2019, Matt still got to as many games as he could, be it at home or away, such as a recent trip to AFC Fylde.
Matt is loved and remembered by many, and we will today be joined by his family and friends.
DAViD kiNg
1946 - 2024
David started supporting Woking in the early 1990's soon after moving to the area and would often be accompanied by his two young sons Malcolm and James. David was a regular on the Chris Lane terrace and travelled to many away fixtures either in the supporters' coach or under his own steam. He continued to attend matches until the last year or so when ill health sadly intervened.
Today we are joined by David’s children, grandchildren and friends, with some travelling over from Jersey for the occasion.
JoHN MUNn
1948 – 2024
John was a regular supporter, home and away, for many years and was particularly well known as a supporters’ coach regular. He was so proud of the Cards, and some of his most memorable highlights were attending the Wembley Trophy finals in the 1990s with his family, followed by the open-top bus parades. In his last hours in Woking Hospice, John asked for his Woking scarves and listened to the match commentary with his family.
We are joined today by members of John’s family and friends.
lES SHERlock
1931 - 2024
Les was taken to his first match by his father William as a very young boy and was an ardent fan from then on. He went to home and away matches with his brother Roger and was so happy to introduce his nephews Neil and Matthew to Woking FC at a young age. They are all still fans and regularly attend matches. Even when he moved to a care home and could no longer attend in person, Les watched Woking matches on the television and was as animated in his support as ever!
Leslie's brother, cousin, nieces, nephews and great niece and nephew will remember him today in the place he loved and spent many hours.
MiCk JERMEy
1940 - 2024
Mick was immersed in local football and well known at Woking FC. After his playing career at Westfield was ended through injury he turned to refereeing with high points being running the line at the 1981 League Cup final and in an international game in Czechoslovakia. Mick was well known within Surrey FA circles and turned as well to mentoring emerging referees. Until recent years Mick was very involved at Woking in volunteering, advising and working with Phil Ledger in running the Woking FC Boardroom. Woking was very dear to him.
Mick’s funeral was yesterday and our thoughts are with his wife Jean, children Jane and Alan and grandchildren Ryan, Sean, Alisha and Sienna at this sad time. We are joined by members of the family today.

IN SAFE HANDS
As a reminder, it is our goal to ensure that all supporters feel safe and welcome at the Laithwaite Community Stadium. To that end, on 11 December 2021, the Club launched the “In Safe Hands” programme to help our fans report racist, sexist, homophobic, or other abusive language simply and anonymously.
If you hear any abusive language, experience it yourself or if you or someone you see feels / looks threatened, you can text the Club anonymously and the message will be monitored by our Safety Officer during the match. Simply text WFC (followed by the nature of your concern and location) to 66777 and we will address your concerns. Example: If you hear racial abuse whilst sitting in the KRE, please send the following text to 66777: “WFC racial abuse centre section of KRE.”

AHEAD oF THE gAME
Woking’s second home game of 2025 comes with the visit of Ebbsfleet United to the Laithwaite, with Neal Ardley having navigated his first six games in charge without defeat.
It’s been a busy week off the pitch, with new signings Jacob Mazionis, on loan from Ipswich Town, and right back Tariq Hinds joining the Cards, with both in line to make their first league appearance.
Ardley will have a host of players to choose from after the likes of Dennon Lewis and Lewis Walker have impressed in the last week, with the latter making a big impact at Yeovil off the bench last time out.
OPPOSITION WATCH
Ebbsfleet United have had a chaotic season. Josh Wright’s first managerial job came after the departures of Danny Searle and Harry Watling, all whilst a remarkable number of players have revolved around the door at the Kuflink Stadium.
Woking fan favourite Jim Kellermann was one of the Fleet’s marquee signings, but despite being given the armband at the start of the season, now finds himself on loan at Kidderminster. Seven players have been loaned out, with three having now departed permanently, along with eight having been loaned in.
Despite the increase in player turnover, the Fleet sit rock bottom, without a win since September, their
Woking vs Ebbsfleet United Vanarama National League Saturday 18th January 2025 15:00 Kick-Off
only win coming against Hartlepool at the Kuflink. With thirteen points separating them from 20th place, results have to change and change now for the Fleet to avoid them returning to the National League South.
Despite the doom and gloom, back-to-back draws against Boston and Yeovil have seen two goals for Aaron Cosgrave, a loanee turned permanent from Halifax and one for George Moncur, the former Southend loanee now at the Fleet from Leyton Orient, and Ebbsfleet haven’t been defeated at the Laithwaite since 2017.
AROUND THE GROUND
Ticket information is available here
Victoria Way has now reopened, however, the A3 between the junction 10 interchange and the B2215/A247 near Send and Burntcommon will be closed.
LAST TIME OUT
Woking were 3-0 victors at the Kuflink Stadium thanks to Max Dyche, Charley Kendall and Matt Ward goals in August.
The last meeting at the Laithwaite saw a Kellermann penalty cancelled out by Ouss Cisse as the sides drew 1-1, with the reverse fixture going the way of the Fleet thanks to a Dom Poleon goal.
Woking’s last victory at the Laithwaite against the Fleet was in October 2017 thanks to an Inih Effiong goal.

THE CARDS TRUST LAUNCHES A FAN WALL
If you're coming to the Laithwaite this afternoon then you'll notice a striking new Fan Wall on the outside wall of the Legends Bar. The wall offers personalised plaques to purchase that enable you to celebrate your favourite player, record your first match, or of course remember a loved one - it is very fitting that Andy Turner has pride of place on the top left plaque. Developed by the Supporters Liaison Group within The Cards Trust, this fundraising initiative will be used by the trust to fund improvements to the spectator experience at the ground, as well as contributing to Boost The Budget and other initiatives to support Woking FC.
You can find out more about how to get your own plaque by clicking here (simple loginfree access) or by speaking to any Cards Trust official at the game today.Anyone can purchase a plaque, you don't need to be a member of The Cards Trust, but please consider joining to actively support your club. This is also a great way for anyone who cannot get to The Laithwaite Community Stadium themselves to show their ongoing support for the club. Update - Thanks to the generous support of The Platinum Table new plaques for Geoff Chapple, Barry Kimber and Colin Lippiatt have been placed at the heart of our Fan Wall.

ACADEMy
The Woking FC Academy has been operating in its current format for over a decade with the aim of helping talented young footballers make progress into the club's first team set up or in their sporting careers whilst continuing with their academic studies.
For the 2024/25 season, the youth and academy setup runs in three stages; a pre-academy for six to nine-year-olds, a youth academy for nine to 16-year-olds, and a full-time academy for talented young players above the age of 16, including an education plan.
The Academy works with the Football Club's partner charitable and community organisation, Cardinals in the Community (CITC).
Notable academy graduates in recent history include Woking legends Craig Ross and Joe McNerney, Wrexham's Ollie Palmer, and exChelsea and now-Reading's Jayden Wareham.
PRE-ACADEMY
The Pre-Academy is for the very youngest players, covering U7s, U8s and U9s. Meeting once a week, players train and learn in a fun and friendly environment under the watchful eye of our coaches. Players that show real talent have the opportunity to progress to Woking FC Academy Youth.
The Pre-Academy trains at The Winston Churchill School in Woking, Thursdays, 17:00 - 18:00.
YOUTH ACADEMY
Starting with U9s and progressing through the age groups right up to U16s, players train with our Academy coaches and have the opportunity to play competitively in the Junior Premier League. Training is held twice weekly at CITC’s sports hub, within the grounds of Woking College, and matches are played on Saturdays. At this level, players are able to continue playing for their grassroots clubs.
As with the main Academy, players receive a progress report twice per season, which helps identify areas of their game to work on and improve. U16s players are assessed throughout the season with a view to being invited to join Woking FC Academy.
WOKING FC ACADEMY
Woking FC Academy is a National League licensed academy. We aim to develop each and every player to reach their full potential, instilling ambition and a professional attitude. We work as closely as possible to Category 3 Academy standards, creating a professional environment in which players thrive.
Players train 5-6 hours per week at CITC’s sports hub. Their development is supported by video analysis of training and matches, group workshops and strength and conditioning sessions. One-to-one reviews are held twice every season, along with player reports so that both the coaching staff and the players themselves have a clear focus on individual development.
Woking FC Academy plays competitive matches in the U18 Isthmian League, U19 National League and also have the opportunity to play in U23 fixtures. Players in our Elite Development Plan (EDP) compete in the Tactic League and National B League. Cup competitions are a feature of the fixture calendar. Pre-season training includes friendlies and there are opportunities to travel abroad for football tours and tournaments, including the Gothia Cup.
Our football timetable is planned in conjunction with players’ education. Academy players can
choose to attend Woking College or focus on gaining the NCFE Level 3 Extended Diploma in Sport, which is delivered by SCL Education at Westfield FC. Players on the EDP pathway study towards the NCFE Level 3 Extended Diploma in Sport (equivalent to 3 A levels) with SCL.
