A BRUSH WITH BARRY We caught up with sisters and entrepreneurs Hannah and Sophie who started the award-winning Spectrum Collections from their garage to talk brushes, Barry and being cruelty free. 4

Interview: Spectrum Collections

HEY GUYS! THANKS FOR SITTING DOWN TO CHAT TO US. TELL US, WHAT WAS IT LIKE STARTING A BUSINESS IN BARRY? S: I think Barry is really good for small businesses, although we’re technically still classified as a small business, we’re more of a medium business now. H: We’re a team of 10 locally, including myself and Soph. When we’re not travelling we’re in the office in Penarth everyday. We’re both now focused on new products, retail partners and the collaborations driving the business, everyone else is operations and management. S: We love Academy and we always used to come here and think ‘why can’t this be our office?!’ So a lot of the time we just sit here with our laptops. We love it here, if we’re not in our office that’s our office and this is what I love about Barry, all of these cool things are happening now. With Goodsheds coming too, it’s going to be a great hub for business.

H: We got some for the staff at the office and it’s nearly all gone now. I really like Bryls Boutique and The Queen B Boutique on the High Street, they’ve got some really nice stuff. S: Paws of the Vale dog walking has Twiggy a few times a week, she’s only just started and she’s really good. Our mum does Craniosacral therapy, that’s why we’re so chilled out. She’s a reiki master and she knows the human body inside out.

“At the beginning we didn’t have any mentors at all, because no one knew what we were doing really, we were just hidden away in the garage.”

ARE THERE ANY OTHER BUSINESSES IN BARRY THAT YOU LOVE? H: For my wedding I worked with the Vale Cake Boutique and she made a birthday cake for us last year. Then there’s also Urban Flower Studio… S: She did a wreath making workshop at Academy at Christmas which was amazing, she makes it really fun! H: In our old building there is a brand called Sadler Jones who do greetings cards, they’re doing really well. We went to Cocoa Therapy recently too. .. S: That chocolate is DELICIOUS.

5

Barry Magazine

H: Which they did loads of times! We did a big family quality check for an order that was going to Selfridges on Sophie’s kitchen table. DID YOU HAVE SUPPORT FROM OTHER PLACES?

She was a stay at home mum with us and this is where our entrepreneurial spirit comes from. Our dad was always out working trying very hard to run his own businesses. So we would see him going out to work really really hard and our mum was really supportive because she would just stay at home and look after the three of us. WERE YOUR PARENTS REALLY SUPPORTIVE OF THE BUSINESS? Both: Yeah, they were! S: They were a little nervous, because they’ve never run a business that’s internet based. Sometimes they didn’t realise we were actually working. H: They’ve always encouraged us to do whatever makes us happy and they would ask us every day ‘Have you sold anything today?’ S: Just being supportive! But we would both say... Nooo! H: They would ask if we’re going to carry on doing it for much longer and we would say yes! We’re going to carry on doing it for along as we need to. S: If we asked them to pick and pack at the garage they would have been there in a heartbeat. 6

S: At the beginning we didn’t have any mentors, because no one knew what we were doing really, we were just hidden away in the garage. But now we get asked to be mentors, so it’s flipped from one side to the other without any in-between! H: We get a lot of support now and we’ve done a couple of events talking about the welsh economy and what an entrepreneurial country we are. S: The GBEA team have been really helpful and given us lots of useful contacts, opportunities and really been a big support. DO YOU THINK THERE ARE OPPORTUNITIES IN BARRY FOR ENTREPRENEURS? S: Definitely. Especially when Goodsheds opens too. The BSC building was good for us when we started. H: It’s specifically targeted for starter businesses and we worked out of there for 2 years. It was amazing for us because it wasn’t too expensive. S: We did eventually squeeze 6 people in, with one person working from home! H: I think it’s a really good scheme and there are more affordable opportunities for businesses to start up now. S: It just means that if you’re a small business you don’t actually have to be confined to your kitchen table, you’ve got an aspirational place to work, which spurs you on a little, rather than be sat at home alone.

Interview: Spectrum Collections

Lots of people work on their own and we always say how lucky we are to work with each other. H: It’s hard to start a business, but it’s much harder on your own. I do think there is a community spirit in Barry and the Vale and everyone champions small businesses. There is a lot more support now, people realise how important it is to shop locally and support your high street. WHAT WAS IT LIKE MEETING THERESA MAY? S: It was really good! We thought it was a hoax at first. H: Luckily they followed it up! We’re still not sure how they found us to invite us but it was amazing. S: Downing Street was amazing, it was full of about 100 women to highlight International Women’s Day. H: We met Charlotte Tilbury, she was lovely. There was a real mix of women there,

“Our make up is vegan and cruelty free so it’s taken us 2 years to find the right factory and make sure everything is as it should be.“ doctors, web designers, celebrities, foodie people. It was just amazing. S: It’s cool that we were at No.10 while Brexit was going on! It’s an interesting time. H: It was nice to be asked and when we mentioned that we’re based in Wales people said it was great because most were based in London. We go to a lot of meetings in London. S: That’s the price you pay for being based in Wales, which is fine, I’d rather be based in Wales and go over to London for a meeting or an event. Or to pop in and see Theresa May!

7

Barry Magazine

S: Hopefully people like it, I love it! We love make up but we don’t necessarily wear loads, so if I’m going to do an eyeshadow look for a night out I might only wear 2 shades. We’ve done 9 shades in a palette and they are all really wearable, I could do a look in 5 minutes. DID YOU DESIGN THE BRUSHES BASED ON WHAT YOU WOULD LIKE? H: More so now. We’ve been doing it for a few years and we have a better idea of what the best selling brushes are…. S: What we use all the time…

H: It does show that you don’t have to be based in London to have a successful business. S: We used to travel down there on the MegaBus. It would take ages but it would only cost £20 so when we had no money it was great. Now we just get the train so we just sit there and work. WHAT DO YOU HAVE COMING UP? H: We’re working on a cosmetics range at the moment which we’re launching in June. It’s a highlighter and an eyeshadow palette which is part of our new collection that Spectrum own. Last year we did a few Disney collaborations which has been amazing but we want to take time to focus on Spectrum own things. We’re just finalising the formulas at the moment. Our make up is vegan and cruelty free so it’s taken us 2 years to find the right factory and make sure everything is as it should be. Its been a really long process so it will be a really big relief when it’s out, and a big celebration! 8

H: And customer Feedback. Some people will buy 6 of one particular eyeshadow brush. We can cater the sets that we’re making to include most of those brushes and then mix it up. We’ve got a good idea of what people like now and our core brushes which are always a best seller. S: It’s a learning curve. H: It’s taken awhile but we’re getting there now!

LIVE, LOVE, LOFT

Windsor Lofts is Barry’s latest high end regeneration project, located in the heart of the West End. We visited the collection of 1-4 bedroom apartments and townhouses at the recent open day to discover more about the new living and work spaces being built right on our doorstep. Housed in and on the grounds of a renovated church, these contemporary living spaces are located near all local amenities and transport links and include 22 plots in total, 13 apartments, 9 townhouses and 2 offices. There’s been plenty of positive feedback and currently all but 6 properties have been snapped up. 18

Centred on the regeneration of the former Windsor Road Church, Windsor Lofts is a magnificent turn of the century complex that thoroughly deserves to be refurbished at the highest level and brought into the 21st century to ensure Barry’s regeneration continues in a sustainable manner.

Windsor Lofts

The Windsor Lofts offer many benefits including super fast broadband, a smart TV in every property, Smart App technology and lifts to the apartments to name just a few. They have been developed by award winning developers Loftco who also restored Barry’s historic Pumphouse, a Grade II Listed Building built in the 1880s which previously formed part of Barry’s historic dock complex. Listed in 1992, The Pumphouse was disused for many years but remains an important local landmark situated in the heart of the Innovation Quarter and has won the All Wales National Award 2016 (LABC Cymru).

The building retains many of it’s original features, with the church windows being an impressive focal point in the apartments

“Loftco is proud to work in collaboration with the community to help refurbish another of Barry’s iconic buildings and give the whole scheme a sustainable future.” Simon Baston, Loftco Managing Director

The apartments are bright, spacious and modern

Step Inside No.99 Gifts & Design @ 99 on Barry High Street has the perfect combination of beautiful gifts, furniture and homeware.

The owner, Lana Nova, is a professional artist with years of experience with interiors. She was born in Moscow, Russia but fell in love with Barry’s shoreline and the warm and welcoming people. She comes from a family of architects and artists, with her great grandmother supplying jewellery to Tsar Nicholas II. Gifts & Design @ 99 was created when Lana realised that there were so many things she wanted to buy and share with everyone. The shop is filled with items which tick three important boxes, they have to be useful, comfortable or pretty. She finds inspiration in Barry’s wonderful Welsh shores, our green fields and many Welsh traditions. Lana told us ‘Wales is a fantastic country. You can find so many different landscapes, from sandy beaches to mountains and a lot of fluffy sheep of course.’

She loves the transformation that can turn an ordinary, dull item into a work of art using only your hands and imagination.

These inspired one of their popular products, the Melin Tregwynt Welsh blanket, made from 100% wool. They are an authentic and traditional product, which adds warmth and comfort, and will last for generations. Lana is greatly against pollution and is a proactive environmentalist.

If you would like to try your hand at creating your own lamp shade, Lana runs individual classes from the shop which use recycled and reused materials. Group classes are coming in May, so make sure you visit their social media pages.

When you visit the shop you’ll notice that recycled materials are a key part of the things she creates and sells in the shop. Living by the sea has opened her eyes to the sheer amount of plastic and debris in the water, which is harming wildlife and in the future will create a huge problem for people. DOG DAY OUT A day out to some of the dog friendly hotspots in Barry We loved sharing our first ‘Bern’s Eye View’ with you back in February and we were so grateful for your recommendations of dog friendly places to visit in and around Barry. There seems to be plenty to choose from so we’re working our way through the list and having a dog’s day out as we go! Keep your suggestions coming, we love to hear from you.

26

1. Mrs Marco’s Cafe Porthkerry is one of our favourite places to walk and there’s nothing better than grabbing a drink from the newly opened Mrs Marco’s Cafe to carry round as you go for a stroll. Just be careful your coffee doesn’t go flying when your dog runs into you (true story - sorry mum!). If you’re planning a long dog walk this is a great place to sit outside for a pit stop before you carry on your journey.

2. Coffee Cove When we asked for recommendations of dog friendly venues, Coffee Cove was one that came up a lot! We popped in after a walk on the beach for a cup of tea and some really delicious chocolate and beetroot cake. It’s great for dogs and families and is much bigger inside than you might think. Well worth a visit if you’re on the Island.

3. Watchtower Bay When it’s a hot day and we don’t want to head down to the Island, our nearest beach is Watchtower Bay. Whether the tide is in or out, Bernie loves having a splash in the sea and there’s always another dog or walker to say hi to! It’s great to walk past if you’re heading down to The Knap as a stop off point to cool down when the weather is hot!

JOIN THE RAT PACK Finding the right dog trainer can be hard, but when we met Emma we knew she was the perfect match for our dog. Read her top training tips here.

We are a nation of dog lovers In the UK there are around 8.9 million pet dogs and in Wales it is estimated that 1 in 3 households have a dog. Owning a dog is beneficial to our health and mental wellbeing as they can reduce stress, keep us fit and active, stave off depression and lower our blood pressure. Our relationship with our dogs should be one of mutual respect, a partnership, not a fight for who should be in charge. Dogs don’t want to be the alpha, they just want to understand their place in our life. Setting boundaries and teaching our dogs what it is we want them to do is a key aspect of owning a dog. 28

Rat Pack Dog Services

3. PLAY WITH YOUR DOG Games of tug, retrieving and chase are great bonding exercises and help build you dog’s focus on you. 4. BE YOUR DOG’S ADVOCATE It’s a big wide world out there and it’s up to you to make sure your dog feels safe and happy. 5. FIND WHAT MOTIVATES YOUR DOG When rewarding our dog for the right behaviour we need to have the correct ‘payment’. It could be food, toys, praise or play... even the environment itself could be rewarding for your dog. 6. DITCH THE BOWL Get your dog’s brain working and earning their dinner instead of giving it out in a bowl. Use their dinner for training, put it in interactive toys and puzzle feeders. Emma on a training session with Bernie

Here are our top training tips to set you and your dog up for success: 1. TRAIN AT EVERY OPPORTUNITY Fit in training when you can, even a few minutes while you’re waiting for the kettle to boil makes a difference. 2. THINK POSITIVE Instead of just telling your dog ‘NO!’ when they do something unwanted, ask yourself what you want them to do instead and reinforce that.

7. GO OUT AND ABOUT Dogs need to learn to generalise their training in lots of different places and scenarios. Start somewhere quiet and build up the distractions as you progress. 8. YOU’RE NOT ALONE If you find yourself struggling with your dog’s behaviour, find a trainer who can help. Call around and find the right trainer for you, who fits your morals and you can get along with. But most importantly... ENJOY YOUR DOG!

MEMORIES OF BARRY We look back at your memories of #Barry over the years

The history of Barry has been a talking point for us recently and we have loved looking through old photos of Barry to find the perfect picture for this edition of Memories of Barry! With the help of Barry Victorian Dock we decided to use this picture of Barry Accident Hospital, which was situated at Barry Dock and opened in December 1908 by the chairman of the UDC WJ Williams JP. At that time it was the only hospital in the country built and maintained out of the local rates which was quite radical thinking for the time.

32

Thank you to Barry Victorian Dock for giving us permission to use this picture and providing us with some background information. Join them for the next High Street Quarter Tour, ‘Victorian & Edwardian Barry’ on April 19 at 6pm outside Barry Train Station. Future events are taking place on April 28 and May 3. Do you have any photos of Barry that you’d like to share in the next edition of #Barry Magazine? Get in touch at info@barrymagazine.co.uk.

MEAT & GREET Vic Hopkins Butchers are a firm favourite on the High Street and have been serving the people of Barry and The Vale for over 50 years.

Vic started working at the shop back in 1960 and took over when Jack Trezise retired in 1968. In 1984 Vic’s son Anthony joined the business, and to this day he’s still here. Anthony says ‘I’ve seen alot of changes over the years and we’ve adapted our business to suit people’s shopping habits’. Although Vic retired in 2005 he still pops in to help out at busy times and reminds us of the quote he once told Anthony, ‘one day the children you see in the shop now will bring their own children shopping in the future.’ As usual, he was right! Since then many others have joined the friendly team including Trevor, Anthony’s wife Heidi and Ryan. The shop has been extended to include a full kitchen to prepare the ready meals cooked by Heidi with help from Ryan, who has some amazing cooking tips that he’s happy to share with customers. The most recent additions to the team are Grant and Daniel who have helped to launch the brand new online store www.welshbutchers.co.uk. 34

‘We understand that with today’s busy lifestyle our customers can’t always get to our shop between normal opening hours. Our online store is open 24/7 offering our award winning produce for collection or with a delivery service up until 7pm.’ ‘These are really exciting times as we’ve only been online for two months and we’re taking orders from all over The Vale with many new customers saying that they’d forgotten how good meat from a real butcher tastes’.

TAKING CENTRE STAGE

Thinking about future development is important for all parents, which is why Sian Griffin, the founder and Director of Class Act Company started her local musical theatre acting classes. The vision for the classes is to encourage your child’s confidence by developing it, using the art of recognised acting methods, songs and dance influences. These techniques will be entertaining but powerful. Your child may not choose to take centre stage or aspire to see their name in lights, but having this opportunity in early development can boost confidence and prepare them for all the challenging aspects of life. 36

Sian has a three year acting degree from A.L.R.A (Academy of Live and Recording Arts) as well as a GCSE in drama and a two year B-Tech National Diploma in performing arts. Sian says ‘I am so excited to be in a position to make a dream reality. After a challenging and intense five years of training the option to become a professional actress was put aside to become a mother to my darling daughter. She is now of an age where I can focus on revisiting the craft with her by my side. What better way to celebrate the passion I have for the arts but with enthusiastic children, helping them to grow and believe in themselves under my tuition.’

There are only 10 weeks of Class Act sessions before the summer holidays! UNDER LOCK & KEY The door to your home is the first thing people see, so it’s important to get it right. We spoke to Rob Renée from Composite Doors Cardiff about Barry, Bro Radio and bringing new business to the town.

What do you love about Barry? Living in Barry is like a mixture of all of my favourite places. It can have the hustle of a city, the peace of the countryside, the sounds of the ocean and the character of a friendly village. Tell us more about you My name is Rob Renée. I’m a father of 7, husband of 1 and Managing Director of Composite Doors Cardiff Limited in Barry. I’m a self-confessed window and door nerd and workaholic. How did you start your business? I decided that I should put my knowledge, skills and attitude to better use, and so decided to start out by myself. I decided to start small and work my way up, knowing that ‘the new company in town’ would need to earn respect and build a reputation before being accepted. How has it changed? Business has moved forwards very quickly. We’ve grown from supplying local builders with Composite Doors and uPVC Windows once or twice per month, to receiving hundreds of enquiries every week. 40

Why are windows and doors important for the home? They can save you money on energy bills, add value to your property but most importantly they secure your home, family and possessions. Sadly, a lot of customers only concentrate on the look of a front door and neglect the back. Last year there were several reports of people

Composite Doors Cardiff

breaking into houses in Barry through the back door, in broad daylight! We carried out free home and office security checks last year and helped loads of customers increase their security for a lot less than they expected. Do you recommend new windows and doors to everybody? A greedy businessman would say ‘Yes of course’, but it isn’t always what’s needed. Sometimes the glass can be changed to extend the life of a window, sometimes a lock can be replaced, or hinges adjusted but there is nothing as secure as new windows and doors, especially composite doors.

“Last year there were several reports of people breaking into houses in Barry through the back door, in broad daylight!” What are your favourite businesses to visit locally? I was a virgin to the sausage until a couple of months ago, but I have now joined the revolution. I am a regular at The Sausage Revolution and have become about 2 steps away from becoming addicted to their spicy diablo sausages and Hot Diggity Dog sauce! What is your biggest achievement? We’re really proud that we have received 100% 5-star reviews since we started in 2017. We’ve been awarded the #DoorOfTheWeek award several times, UK installer of the month by Endurance Doors and Build Magazine’s ‘Best Windows and Doors Supplier in the VOG’. We’re also the new sponsor for Bro Radio weather reports which we’re really excited about.

What projects do you have lined up for the future? We have just signed a deal with LCB Construction Ltd to supply and install windows, doors and aluminium bifold doors for 9 new build properties at Tathan Hall in St. Athan. Do you support any charities? My father died of Brain Cancer a couple of years ago. Years before his death I collected money for The Brain Tumour Charity in the hope that enough money will be raised to research and one day limit the deaths from this cancer. In 2018 we signed a corporate partnership with The Brain Tumour Charity and donations from profits will hopefully one day prove to be beneficial. BARRY NOTICEBOARD It’s so easy to get caught up in negative news, so we’ve created a community noticeboard so you can share your positive words about people, businesses, places and more!

I had an amazing afternoon tea at Key West Cafe, on Holton Road. The food was delicious, they were really polite, It’s a lovely area and the back room is perfect for a group. It’s nice and quiet, away from others. The children’s afternoon tea was perfect. It was a truly fabulous afternoon. - Kathryn

We had a great experience at Homemade Wales on the High Street and even changed our frame to get a matching set. We will definitely visit again! - Darren

We’ve had a great experience with Casa! Itzel & Carlos offer a very professional cleaning service and they’re super friendly and reliable. For me personally, there was the added touch that they’re pet friendly and are environmentally conscious too. I would recommend them to anyone looking for a household cleaning service. - Andy

We at the RNLI are incredibly grateful for the support we have received from local clubs and businesses in helping us with our Mayday event. We hope that our local community will join us for a fun day and help our local lifeboat in #savinglivesatsea. - Avril

I’d like to recommend Allan’s Family Fish Bar on Vere Street in Cadoxton. They’re local, friendly and have consistently excellent chippies. - Rich

BARRY BARGAINS If you love bargain hunting as much as we do, here’s some top tips for finding a good deal in Barry from Emily @anything_but_new.

Barry Bargains

CHARITY SHOPS Barry’s High Street and town centre have a wide selection of fab charity shops full of bargain clothes, trinkets and decent second-hand furniture. For such amazing prices you just can’t go wrong if you’re wanting to spruce up your wardrobe or refresh your decor on a budget. As well as the big name shops such as British Heart Foundation and Cats Protection, there’s lots of great local charities who are supported immeasurably through having a shop, helped by teams of dedicated volunteers. Did you know Tŷ Hafan and Bobath were both started in the Vale?

the corner is Porthkerry car boot sale at Porthkerry Leisure Park. Head over from 1pm for a spot of bargain hunting after lunch. If you’re lucky, you may just catch a plane coming into land overhead – so close you can almost touch it.

INDOOR EVENTS When the weather is bad or you don’t fancy walking around a field, there are plenty of indoor events locally to check out too. If you’re on the hunt for indoor bargains try taking a look on Next Door, Facebook or in your local paper for weekly events taking place near you. They might be called table top sales, jumble sales or garage sales so keep your eye out for different events in the area. This month the final Barry indoor car boot sale is taking place on Saturday 27th April at St Francis Millennium Centre from 9:30am -11:30am. Barry is a bustling and growing town - there’s always events nearby.

CAR BOOT SALES Around Barry we don’t have a huge selection of car boot sales to visit, but the ones that we do have are well worth a trip! The Sully car boot sale at Sully Sports and Social Club’s ground will be starting again shortly on Sunday 28th April at 7:30am. The team can cater for over 500 vehicles so make sure you bring lots of change and bags! If you don’t want to get up early on a Sunday morning, just around 47

AWAY WITH THE DRAGONS On Saturday 6th April Barry Town United secured third position in the JD Welsh Premier League, meaning that this summer they will be taking part in European football for the first time since 2003.

Although probably an afterthought for most people now, the game against Bala that secured our qualification epitomises this football club. Having battled hard in the first half Barry were unlucky to conceded the first goal of the game 10 minutes into the second half. Then when Bala’s second goal was scored just a few minutes later, you feared that heads would drop. Head’s didn’t drop though, instead the team rallied and pushed forward looking to get themselves back into the game.

‘It’s not been easy but when has anything been easy for this football club?’ Jordan Cotterill’s goal came just 6 minutes after Bala’s second and although still losing the game, it felt as though the tides had turned in favour of Barry. Within the 50

next ten minutes Barry would score three goals courtesy of Kayne Mclaggon for two and Modou Touray to all but secure Europa League qualification. To put the cherry on top Drew Fahiya came on to score Barry’s fifth just before the 90th minute to seal the game. What followed the final whistle can only be described as mass elation, players, fans and staff celebrating (and crying) in unison for what they had achieved.

Away with The Dragons

‘European qualification is something I’m sure some people thought they’d never see again’ For some of us this achievement still hasn’t sunk in (maybe It never will) but to understand its meaning you only have to look back six years ago when Barry Town nearly didn’t exist. In the time since then this football club has battled for everything on and off the pitch, to get back to the top of Welsh football. It’s not been easy but when has anything been easy for this football club? European qualification is something I’m sure some people thought they’d never see again and others thought they might not see just two years back into the Welsh Premier League but now is the time to dream. I’m sure some of you have already tried to figure out the price of ferries to the

Faroe Islands or flights to Eastern Europe as we anticipate the draw on the 11th of June! Once we know more about where we will be going we will provide more information to you but for now enjoy this feeling.

The goal for 2019 is to enable 150 children to become published authors. This is just the beginning… Get in touch to find out more about our latest project. @childauthorproject

Founded by Jessica Prime, a best-selling author, mother and advocate based in South Wales, UK. An advocate for Mental Health, Jessica firmly believes in the importance of education and awareness for children. Children should be educated about the importance of a healthy mind. Jessica also wholeheartedly believes that children should be encouraged to be creative and have their skills and dreams nurtured. The project gives children a platform to write, be creative and to achieve an incredible goal. 52

“Hello, my name is Eboni and I am 10 years old. I am excited to be a child author because people can see my work and it can inspire other children like me to write books, poems and so much more! I am also excited to write about the topic ‘Happiness’ because it can make others feel happy instead of sad, and more positive instead of negative.”

Empowering People, Inspiring Excellence and Strengthening Communities

Explore Volunteering Embark on a new adventure! Glamorgan Voluntary Services (GVS) is based in Barry and operates throughout the Vale of Glamorgan, priding itself on serving local communities. We aim to strengthen communities by equipping people with the tools they need to fulfil their potential and make a difference. GVS has over 700 organisations in membership and supports them in varying ways. Key services include funding support, a Vale Health Social Care and Well Being Network that your organisation can join, volunteering, training, printing and design, project management and governance services. GVS has helped to establish new groups and charities through supporting people with inspiring ideas who are hugely committed to their cause. One such individual is Paul Adamson who, with support from GVS, established The Jamie Adamson

Memorial (JAM) Fund in 2005 which has raised over £400,000 to date. GVS can be defined as the “go to place for volunteers and volunteering” but we are much more than that! We are in the fortunate position of helping people embark on new journeys, our role is both challenging and rewarding. We could be matching a potential volunteer to a charitable organisation, working with statutory partners whilst giving the local voluntary sector a voice or providing invaluable support to a group of people who have an idea about setting up a community group close to their heart. Our role is varied and that’s what we love! For more details contact:
