INTERACTIVE DIGITAL PROGRAMME
v SUNDERLAND SAT NOVEMBER 27 2021 Kick-Off: 3.00pm
Fan noticeboard WELCOME Oh what might have been! Tuesday’s game against Wigan was a thriller and up until the 83rd minute it looked like we were going to claim a memorable win. It just goes to show how you can never assume anything in football, which is why we love the game. Supporters of all clubs have been on both ends of a result like that – the highs and the lows. Despite the disappointment, it was another good marker for the team against one of the stronger teams in the division. The gap between the top and bottom of League One is so much greater than in League Two, not that you would be able to tell given some of our tussles this season. Today is our Rainbow Laces Matchday as we show support to the LGBTQ+ community and reaffirm our position as allies. Inclusivity is at the heart of the football club and we mustn’t become complacent in calling out discrimination when we see it and standing with minorities and communities that are discriminated against. Our Community Trust does a brilliant job of putting words into action and its LGBTQ+ Amber and Proud Football Sessions are just one example of exactly that. Check out the Trust’s page in the Programme for more on that. Today’s match is another sell-out and is sure to be another electric atmosphere at the Abbey. Our stadium may be a little on the ‘well-worn’ side, but it doesn’t half hold a crowd of 7,000 in a way that many newer grounds couldn’t possibly hope to. United in Endeavour.

Tuesday night was an excellent performance against a much-fancied side this season for the title. Wigan Athletic have had a tough time in recent seasons but are back on their feet and well backed by their owners to make a swift return to The Championship. They started the game really well and had us on the back foot, but we stood up to the challenge and stayed in the game, largely due to some resolute defending and Dimi’s outstanding save. To be ahead at half time was a big boost for us and gave us some confidence as we returned for the second half. I thought we took control of the game really well, extending the lead and then showing good game management and quality to limit Wigan to very little. But games can change in a flash and the momentum swing when their goal arrived was huge. In the end it felt disappointing to leave the field with one point having promised so much more. What we have to credit though is just how well we are competing and working in games right now given the relentless nature of the
fixtures. Things don’t slow down and today is another great challenge. This reminds me of the week of Ipswich and Sheffield Wednesday. Both big opponents, both big performances needed from us and both played in excellent atmospheres. Today is another sell-out crowd at The Abbey and the noise will be off the scale. We need to use that to our advantage and thrive off it. Do what you do! Sing your hearts out for us from nought to ninety! Harrison Dunk made his 400th appearance in a U’s shirt on Tuesday night. Now that is some achievement. We presented him with a shirt before the game and he played as he always does. He is a vital character and professional in our team and contributes greatly to the culture we are developing. I’m proud of that environment and the way in which all the players and staff work together, without ego and with professionalism and respect. It gives us the best chance to keep improving our club, being a competitive team and enjoying our work together. Thanks for your support. ■ www.cambridge-united.co.uk

Ian Mather CEO Welcome to the 2,551 Sunderland fans who have made the long trip to the Abbey. I have a lot of affection for the North East having studied there for two years in the early 80’s and one of my oldest friends comes from Silksworth, in Sunderland. I remember going to Roker Park on a snowy day to watch Liverpool win. To be clear, I was cheering for Sunderland. To all U’s fans, when you spot a Mackem say a friendly hello and you will get a cheery response. Here are just a few tips to avoid though: Don’t refer to them as a Geordie! Geordies come from another planet called Newcastle! It is like confusing a Kiwi with an Aussie, a Canadian with an American – or worse a Scot with an Englishman. Mackem’s come from Wearside not Tyneside and as we all know play in red stripes, not black and white. This week I recorded a podcast with the Sunderland Top Dogs Pod. I hope hosts Rhys William and Paul Wilson had a good journey down. It was good banter with a few curveball questions like what was the score when our teams last played each other in 2002 in the League Cup? It was not great for us. A better question would have been what was the score the last time at the Abbey? It was 2-1 in 1993. But, so much for history. Much as I said in the Wigan programme note, the clubs have had different fortunes since the 1990’s and undoubtedly Sunderland have had the better run of success. Yet, here we are, set to play each other in League 1. As those visiting the Abbey for the first time you will see this does not have the scale of the 49,000 capacity Stadium of Light. What it does have, like the Stadium of Light, is passionate fans who care about their team and will cheer them on until the final whistle. In our last two games, against high performing Rotherham and Wigan, we have shown that we can compete at League 1 level. At times the quality of our play has been brilliant. Maybe the result on Tuesday was one where a draw feels like a loss but we should be proud of our team
in the way they compete and have a desire to learn. There is a sense of unity about the place which stretches off the pitch to every fan. Speaking of every fan, today is our Rainbow Laces fixture where we show our solidarity with the LGBTQ+ community and let it be loud and clear that football is for everyone and discrimination won’t be accepted here at the Abbey. A shocking 43% of LGBTQ+ people still thinking that public sporting events aren’t a welcoming space for them, which has to change. And finally, a welcome to Sunderland majority shareholder and Chairman Kril Louis- Dreyfus. He has the distinction of being the youngest Chairman in English football. In turn we have the second youngest Head Coach. It is a good reminder of one of my favourite sayings – if you are good enough you are old enough. Both are proving to be excellent custodians of our respective teams and long may that continue. Enjoy the game. ■ www.cambridge-united.co.uk

Today’s visitors SUNDERLAND Five years ago this week, David Moyes’ Sunderland side fell to a 2-0 defeat at Anfield, having just won their first two games of the 16/17 Premier League season against Bournemouth and Hull City. Today, they prepare for a League One clash at the Abbey Stadium having endured half a decade of relegations and play-off heartbreak in the third tier. Despite recent underachievement, in which has seen the Black Cats fail to get out of League One in three attempts, a newfound optimism has returned to the Stadium of Light, following the successful takeover from 24-year-old Kyril Louis-Dreyfus towards the end of last season. There will certainly be an aim for the new owner and fans alike at Sunderland to become an established Premier League club again, but the challenge of getting out of League One awaits first.

CAMBRIDGE UNITED F.C. V SUNDERLAND
Sunderland head to the Abbey off the back of a frustrating draw throughout midweek, with the Black Cats throwing away the lead against the 10-men of Shrewsbury Town. Alex Pritchard had originally given Lee Johnson’s side the lead after quarter of an hour, and despite the hosts being reduced to 10 – after David Davis was dismissed in first half stoppage time – the Tyne and Wear club couldn’t hold on as Daniel Udoh levelled the score midway through the second half. Nine wins from their opening 12 League One games this season had the Black Cats sit just a point shy off top spot, however, just one win from their last five League One outings, as well as suffering heavy 5-1 and 3-0 defeats against Rotherham United and Sheffield Wednesday respectively, has seen Lee Johnson’s side slip down to sixth. Ageing like a fine wine, Aiden McGeady has,
as expected, been crucial to Lee Johnson’s side once more this season, after the former Bristol City manager re-vitalised the Irishman’s Stadium of Light career towards the back end of last season. The former Everton and Spartak Moscow winger, who boasts playing experience playing in both the Champions League and Europa League, has contributed to seven goals in just 12 starts for Sunderland this season in League One. Prior to Tuesday’s draw at the Montgomery Waters Meadow Stadium, the Black Cats returned to winning ways, having lost the previous four games in all competitions. Two goals from Luke O’Nein and Aiden McGeady within the final eight minutes sealed an important win over Ipswich Town in front of more than 31,000 spectators at the Stadium of Light last weekend. ■

From the SLO DAVE MATTHEW-JONES
This afternoon we welcome the supporters, officials and players of Sunderland to the Abbey Stadium. I remember visiting Roker Park in 1992. We were heading towards the Division 2 play-offs and Sunderland were due to play Liverpool in the FA Cup Final shortly afterwards. The match ended in a 2-2 draw, but what I remember most is how friendly the supporters were to each other and the genuine warmth shown to us on the day. It also highlighted how important the atmosphere inside the ground was and how much it could influence a match. When the Sunderland supporters got behind their side the encouragement was terrific and team was lifted. If we could do the same on Matchdays, I am sure the team would welcome it and the opposition fear it. Be Loud, Be Proud and Be United. 100yearsofcoconuts have recently organised a re-print of Andrew Bennett’s Celery & Coconuts Series of Books. The series of four books can be purchased either singularly or as a set. The books are online via the CFU Shop or from the Programme Exchange outside the club shop on Matchdays. They tell the remarkable story of the club and provide an insight into the people and events that mak eup the history of Abbey United and
Cambridge United. I would recommend anyone interested in the club to have a set on their bookshelf. The CUFCLottery was recently relaunched and the number of players each week has increased. The lottery provides improvements to both Club and supporter amenities at the Abbey Stadium, as well as local community projects. Examples of projects funded by the Lottery included the purchase and installation of the two new scoreboards, various hand-dryers and a wealth of materials to improve the pitch and the around the ground. For information concerning the many, but not all of the items the lottery has help provide funding for over the years and to sign up, visit www.cufclottery.co.uk. Away travel can now be booked for the upcoming matches at Cheltenham, Charlton and Wycombe. Visit the CFU Website or the Programme Exchange on Matchday to book your coach space. Memories Down CUT THROAT LANE Afternoon, all. This feels like a big game, especially when you hear the opposition are running coaches to the Abbey from East Anglia. Well I keep saying this but it has been a while since we last crossed swords. Given the size and history of Sunderland AFC our record isn’t so bad but it is probably not worth mentioning the last time we met, in the League Cup at home on 1st October 2002. I always liked that fizzy lemon and lime concoction, mind. If 2002 seems like a long while ago, then how about 27 November 1965? The Linnets from King’s Lynn were in town for a Southern League Premier fixture. A fascinating programme, not least the cover featuring the original United in Endeavour badge. Why, oh why did the badge never feature on a U’s shirt? One spectacularly unusual feature of the programme in that era was that you had to turn to the centre-fold for the basic match details including date, opposition and line-ups. I have never seen that before or since. I know ads are boring but somehow when you look back to those days there is a certain air
of romanticism. Some cracking pubs in there, some still with us, some not. I particularly like Mr and Mrs Prong at the King’s Head in Fen Ditton. The pub’s still there and funnily enough sits on a fork in the road off the High Street. Think about it. And no King’s Lynn team of the 60s can go without mentioning Malcolm Lindsay, idol of the Walks and later of course of the Abbey. He scored 321 goals for the Linnets in a career spanning 740 games. He joined the U’s in February 1970 for £750 at the age of 29 and made an important contribution to the gaining of Football League status with eight goals in 17 Southern League appearances. He had returned to the Walks following a spell at Boston after leaving the Abbey at the end of 1970. Finally, on this date in 1920 English actor Buster Merryfield was born in Battersea. Known most popularly as ‘Uncle Albert’ in Only Fools & Horses, Merryfield learnt his trade as a fitter but later became a bank manager! A big Millwall fan, he died in Dorset in 1999, aged 78. Enjoy yourselves. ■

Hot OffAndrew the Habbin Stephen “Courage is not something that you already have that makes you brave when the tough times start. Courage is what you earn when you’ve been through the tough times and you discover that they aren’t so tough after all.” Malcolm Gladwell “Courage is not something that you already have that makes you brave when the tough times start. Courage is what you earn when you’ve been through the tough times and you discover that they aren’t so tough after all.” Malcolm Gladwell. Well the big matches keep coming and despite having a small squad which is severely taxed by injury and exhaustion, Cambridge United keep proving that we can give anyone a game. Earlier this week, a highly fancied Wigan Athletic came to the Abbey Stadium and outplayed us until Joe Ironside proved yet again that we have a player who can hurt anyone. Wigan’s line up included the hugely impressive Power and Maclean and they will surely be near the top of our division by the end of the season. Somehow we took a two 2-0 lead and for a spell in the second half we stretched them. The 400-odd Wigan fans were silent as we tore into them with all the passion and commitment we have come to expect. We looked a very tired outfit in the last ten minutes but we emerged with a hard earned point which was a metaphor for our season. Now we face Sunderland, another side with huge support, and hopes of a long awaited return to the big time that many of their fans dream of. It has a long time since a full and raucous Roker Park and the days of Charlie Hurley. It has been a long time since Ian Porterfield and Jim Montgomery beat Leeds on their own in an FA Cup semi-final. And what a popular win that was. Not everyone loved Leeds. We have had some memorable tussles with them down the years, famously getting a draw away to guarantee our spot in the play-
offs for the first year of the Premier League. That didn’t go so well. We also beat them 2-1 at the Abbey in 1992 in one of Beck’s last games. I travelled back on a train packed with Sunderland fans, some of whom had had a glass or two. They were great company and surprisingly flattering about the way we had played. Real football fans are like that. They know when their opponents have played well and are not above saying so. Sunderland fans know their football and they enjoy it, even if the experience hasn’t been kind to them for a while. It was good to see the scoreboards recognising Mark Bonner’s birthday. He deserved that and much more. The team desperately wanted to win for him. Their disappointment was obvious at the final whistle. I love to see that. They hadn’t settled for a point. At the astonishingly young age of 36, Bonner has created a team that don’t give up and who fight and scrap for each other, no matter what. They have surprised a lot of people this season and will continue to do so. Maybe we could do with one or two reinforcements in January if only to rest players who work extraordinarily hard. What we do know is that when the final whistle blows on Saturday, Sunderland will know that they’ve been in a game. ■ www.cambridge-united.co.uk

Around the Division LEAGUE ONE ROUND-UP Rotherham United swept into the summit of League One after comfortably dispatching Ipswich Town 0-2 at Portman Road. Goals from Ben Wiles and Shane Ferguson helped stretch the Millers’ unbeaten run to 15 games in all competitions – their longest run under Paul Warne. The Tractor Boys’ form is slightly more concerning – one win in five sees them tumble to an unlucky 13th. A flurry of second-half strikes saw Wycombe Wanderers secure an emphatic 0-3 victory against fellow promotion-chasers Plymouth Argyle. A Sam Vokes finish just after the hour mark helped turn on the gas for the Chairboys, who romped to 2nd and leapfrogged their opponents after a late Anis Mehmeti brace put the game to bed. Consecutive victories for Gareth Ainsworth’s men inflicted consecutive defeats for the hosts – a solitary point now separates the sides. Cambridge United were forced into a share of the spoils after a comeback at the death from Wigan Athletic clawed a 2-2 draw. Neat finishes from Joe Ironside and Adam May either side of half-time put the hosts into the ascendency, but the strong travellers valiantly battled back with quickfire goals from Will Keane and Callum Lang to bridge a three-point gap from 5th. A bitter pill to swallow for the U’s – nonetheless, they occupy a creditable 15th. Sheffield Wednesday showcased their resurgence credentials with a last-gasp 2-1 success over MK Dons at Hillsborough. Scott Twine’s impressive season continued when he struck first blood on 47, but the impressive Owls pressed hard and threw the kitchen sink, eventually breaking through via Lee Gregory and Josh Windass. Unbeaten in nine and remaining hard to beat, they rise to 5th - whereas Liam Manning’s side are three places and a point behind after their winning run concluded. With the odds stacked against them, 10-man Shrewsbury Town picked up an impressive

1-1 draw against this afternoon’s visitors Sunderland. Alex Pritchard put the Black Cats ahead with a curling effort, before David Davis was sent off on the stroke of half-time for the hosts. Despite the hammer blow, excellent character from Salop ensured a point apiece when Daniel Udoh struck against the run of play on 64. One win in five, the Tyne & Wear outfit make up the play-off picture with Steve Cotterill’s side languishing in 21st. Covid-hit Oxford United made light of their availability crisis by cruising to a 3-1 success over Fleetwood Town at the Kassam Stadium. A flying start saw Luke McNally and Cameron Brannagan convert early doors. Joe Matete pulled a goal back on the cusp of half-time, but Nathan Holland banished comeback hopes with a classy individual goal to put the game beyond reach as the U’s climbed to 7th. It ultimately costed Simon Grayson his job after a worrying run of seven defeats in eight sees the Cod Army loom in 22nd. Portsmouth extended their convincing unbeaten run to six games after breezing past Lincoln City 0-3. In charge for the majority of the contest, the in-form Marcus Harness opened the floodgates before George Hirst and Reeco Hackett-Fairchild sealed the romp and ensured a triumphant return to Sincil Bank for Danny Cowley. Pompey are up to 9th and plotting a play-off charge, whereas his former employers are a lowly 16th after one win in six. Cheltenham Town soared to 10th position after overcoming Gillingham 0-2. Sean Long and Alfie May both prodded home on the half an hour and hour mark respectively to wrap up successive wins and obtain applaudable form of one loss in seven. It’s the polar opposite for the struggling Gills, they’ve tasted victory once since late-September yet are a place and point afloat of the drop. Bolton Wanderers made an instant return to winning ways with a dominant 3-0 win over
10-man Doncaster Rovers. Eoin Doyle and Elias Kachunga sent the Trotters into the break two goals and a man to the good after Joe Olowu received his marching orders. George Thomason killed the game off just shy of the hour mark to march the hosts to 11th and consign struggling Rovers to 23rd, four points adrift. Doubles from Daniel Jebbison and Jonny Smith helped Burton Albion to a barnstorming 4-0 win against out of form Accrington Stanley at the Pirelli Stadium. The rout was a necessity for the Brewers, who banished a four-game losing streak and moved to 12th. Winless in five, the Reds slump to 17th. Morecambe battled back from two goals down to earn an excellent point in an entertaining 2-2 draw with Charlton Athletic. Johnnie Jackson’s side dominated from the get go, racing into a demanding lead through Diallang Jaiyesimi
and Conor Washington. Cole Stockton replied with an instant consolation, before Anthony O’Connor headed home after 72 minutes to make sure the sides couldn’t be separated. The handy point means the Shrimps are 19th whereas the Addicks sit in 14th and without a defeat in six. A five-goal thriller went the way of AFC Wimbledon at Plough Lane as they edged out Crewe Alexandra 3-2 and brushed off three defeats on the bounce. The Railwaymen vitally took the lead through Chris Long, though a strike from Jack Rudoni and an Ollie Palmer brace saw the hosts take all three points despite Chris Porter’s late consolation. In 18th, the Dons have breathing space. On the other hand, David Artell’s men remain the basement side and have a battle on their hands. ■ Owen Mizon

Cambridge United had to settle for a share of the spoils after a late Wigan Athletic comeback forced a 2-2 draw at the Abbey Stadium. Joe Ironside’s goal towards the end of the first half was followed up by Adam May’s at the start of the second, to put the U’s into a commanding lead. Despite an impressive second half display which limited the Latics’ threat, Callum Lang scored twice in the final 10 minutes to dampen the day that Harrison Dunk made his 400th appearance for the Club.

Another Saturday and another big test to look forward to, this time in the form of Sunderland. All of us involved with the Women’s team wish Mark and the lads the very best of luck for today’s game. The last couple of weeks have seen the Women in Cup action and first up was a trip to Chesham in the FA Cup. After a poor start where we found ourselves 2-0 down in the first 10 minutes, the players really dug in and then turned the game around to bring it back to 2-2 after 60 minutes, through goals from Abi Davies and Gisela Otten. performance where not only did we progress with an excellent display, but also we showed how we can dominate a game from start to finish and show real quality with the ball. Both Laura Mitchell and Ruth Fox completed hat tricks and Ella Marden capped her first senior start with a fine performance and a goal. Now we return back to league action and this Sunday we play London Seaward at St Neots before a trip to Plough Lane to play AFC Wimbledon. We would love as much support as possible so please come along if you can. Remember all Season Ticket Holders are admitted for free. Let’s all get behind the team and hopefully enjoy a wining weekend! Up The U’s! ■ More pressure was applied to the hosts defence but with 15 minutes to go, Chesham scored what proved to be the winner with an excellent finish into the top corner. It was a very disappointing way to exit the competition, but again it shows the resilience the players have when faced with a difficult situation. We now need to ensure we do not start in the same way in future matches and avoid giving ourselves the same mountain to climb. Last Sunday was the quarter finals of the County Cup where we faced Peterboroughbased side Cardea. It was a really pleasing www.cambridge-united.co.uk

View from the Press Box Doug Shulman Tuesday’s match against Wigan proved to be one of those nights where the end result should have been a U’s win but, after late drama, ended in draw, which felt like a defeat. To have managed the game so efficiently for 85 minutes, score two brilliantly worked goals through Joe Ironside and Adam May, then be hit with the sucker punch of two late strikes, was tough to take and certainly ensured that everyone – players, coaching staff and supporters - left the Abbey feeling slightly flat. Nevertheless, Mark Bonner’s men are learning to roll with the punches at a higher level and will have bounced into training the following day, to prepare for another big occasion this afternoon in CB5 against Sunderland; a fixture which has once again attracted another sell-out crowd.
“The Black Cats have not visited the Abbey since a League Cup clash in October 2002, with league fixtures being absent from the calendar as far back as the 1992/93 season” The Black Cats have not visited the Abbey since a League Cup clash in October 2002, with league fixtures being absent from the calendar as far back as the 1992/93 season. U’s fans of a certain age, (including me!) will recall a cracking 3-3 draw at Roker Park that year, with Phil Chapple and Lee Philpott bagging the goals earlier in the campaign to seal a 2-1 win at the Abbey. Remarkable to think that 29 years have passed since those two games, with the North East Club enduring a rollercoaster ride between the Premier League, Championship and League One, whilst United have gone to the brink of oblivion and back, via four relegations and three promotions.
Likely to be taking his place in the starting eleven today will be Harrison Dunk, who made his 400th appearance for the club in the aforementioned draw with Wigan. I spoke to Harrison after the game and, a humbler man you could not wish to meet. Making his debut in a 1-1 draw at Wrexham in August 2011, then scoring the winner his home debut against Telford three days later and to then progress and join an Elite group of U’s players to hit the 400-game mark, is an incredible story. Those other stalwarts are Harvey Cornwell, Steve Spriggs, Steve Fallon, John Taylor and Russell Crane, with the U’s no.11 now sitting rightly amongst those legends. Here’s to the next 100 Harrison! ■ www.cambridge-united.co.uk

Giving Football Back to Small Business At eBay, we know small business and football clubs used to be like chips and gravy, two peas in a pod – a match made in community heaven. Ironmongers, ship workers, spring makers and cobblers, all formed clubs which decades later are still prospering. But nowadays, you’d think it was all eyewatering transfers, Super Leagues and mega sponsors, detached from the humble origins of our historic clubs.
That’s why eBay are proud to support 300,000 small businesses who help power EFL clubs nationwide. We’ll be donating our advertising space to a lot of these businesses – on match day hoardings, around grounds and beyond – throughout the coming season, to ensure they can continue to thrive in our local communities. So, join us in giving your support to Small Business Power, because today, they need us more than ever.

Academy Update First of all we would like to wish Mark, his staff and players the best of luck ahead of today’s game. The result against Wigan on Tuesday was a terrific one for the Club and we wouldn’t put it past them to deliver another this afternoon. The U18s will face Oxford United in the Third Round of the FA Youth Cup following a 5-1 victory in Round Two against Corinthian Casuals. The second round tie was a very cagey affair for the early part, with the hosts supporters creating a hostile atmosphere which took our boys some time to get used too. Another corner led to the fourth before Kai Yearn slid in Akanbi for his first of the game and the team’s fifth to wrap the tie up. It was a really professional performance against what was tough opposition and although the score line may not suggest it; the lads came through the right end of some real early pressure. We would welcome as many U’s fans to attend our fixture against Oxford United to support the boys, which is to take place on Wednesday 8th December 2021, 7pm KO at the Abbey. ■ Casuals took an early lead when a shot from a free kick slightly fortuitously landed at the feet of their striker in the box, who tucked it away from 10 yards. The U’s equalised not too long afterwards through Brandon Njoku, nodding home from a Glenn McConnell corner. The second half was a very different game and United really stepped up their level of performance and showed their professionalism and quality in the final third to make the game run away from the hosts. A whipped cross from Greg Sandiford saw Saleem Akanbi rise at the back post, whose header was poked home by Njoku for his second of the game and shortly afterwards, Glenn McConnell scored a pressure penalty to make the game 3-1. www.cambridge-united.co.uk

Today’s game against Sunderland represents our LGBTQ+ Matchday as we show our support for Stonewall’s Rainbow Laces campaign. Rainbow Laces have brought visibility for LGBTQ+ people in sport. More than a million people have laced up, and two thirds of sport fans who have seen the campaign believe they have a responsibility to stand in solidarity for LGBTQ+ fans of the teams and sports they follow. However, the numbers also show there is still much to do with 43% of LGBTQ+ people still thinking that public sporting events aren’t a welcoming space for them.
Rainbow Corner Flags, Substitute Boards and Captain Armbands will be used this afternoon to help further raise awareness of the discrimination that LGBTQ+ people receive and to send a message that Cambridge United is United with the LGBTQ+ community. Indeed, with support from Football Foundation’s Return of Supporters Fund, Cambridge United Community Trust have launched an ‘Amber and Proud’ football session which takes place on Wednesday 7-8pm. We all recognise the benefits that sport and physical activity can bring to our lives – not just in terms of our wellbeing, but also in the ways they bring people together. People from all walks of life can gain a sense of belonging and community through shared passion, and LGBTQ+ people deserve to be a part of this. If you are from the LGBTQ+ community, and would be keen to be involved in helping us make the Abbey Stadium as inclusive as possible, then please get in touch with us by emailing communitytrust@cambridgeunited.co.uk. ■
