THE MANAGER STEVE EVANS
“We know how tough it will be, we understand that - we’re ready”
CHIEF OPERATING OFFICER CHRIS ROSS
Welcome to The Lamex Stadium this evening for our Sky Bet League Two match against Barrow AFC. We are now in December and the team led by Steve Evans and his staff currently occupy 2nd with 40 points. To see us reach that mark already in the season has been testament to the hard work both the players and management put in day-to-day.
We narrowly exited the Carabao Cup on penalties to Charlton Athletic and we continue to enjoy both a Papa John’s Trophy and FA Cup run as we all get excited for Premier League opposition in the form of Aston Villa in January.
In addition, the attendances we have
seen this season have been fantastic. We had just short of 5,000 at the Northampton Town match back in October, our biggest home attendance in years.
We have also announced a new partnership in recent months with Footasylum, with their branding now visible above the North Stand - and who can forget that unique Danny Rose winner against Hartlepool United that went viral with almost 17 million views across the world.
Don’t forget that whilst we are in World Cup season, you can enjoy many of the matches including every Three Lions tie live in our 76 Lounge.
Thank you to everyone who has supported the Club already this season and we hope you enjoy the game.

The stage was set for the perfect end to the most perfect of seasons for Boro. Back in 2010 the inexorable rise of our hometown club moved on another step as they put in a remarkable campaign to win the Blue Square Premier and enter the Football League. The icing on the richest of cakes was to be the FA Trophy, our third appearance in four seasons and a
third win against unfancied Barrow in front of 21,223. The Bluebirds of course had other ideas, and although Andy Drury put Boro ahead on 10 minutes, they were down to 10 men when David Bridges was sent off on 28 minutes. Boro battled hard but conceded 11 minutes from the end and although Barrow also suffered a red card, they clinched the crown in added time.
DARREN ISTED
Stevenage have never lost against Barrow in the Football League, winning two and drawing two of their four meetings.
Barrow have lost both of their previous Football League away games against Stevenage, losing 2-1 in March 2021 and 1-0 in August 2021.
ON THIS DAY: 02 DECEMBER
It’s not unusual for Boro’ to be in action on 2 December; eight previous encounters on this date in history for us to go back over. But it is unusual for Boro’ to be in action on a Friday night. And you can almost make a case for it being out of the ordinary for us to be at home on this date in the diary too. It’s happened just three times out of those eight.
Luckily, things tend to happen on home turf on 2 December. It began back in 1995 with a comprehensive 4-0 win over reigning Conference champions; four separate goalscorers on target as we started the process of lifting the Silkmen’s crown from their heads and moving it across to ours later that season.
In 2017, meanwhile, a Danny Newton brace saw us storm to victory over Swindon Town in the FA Cup Second Round.
Our third outing at home on this date? Well, that’s in the middle of the two games mentioned already. It was chaotic too; Stimmo’s side taking the lead through Steve Morison, before losing Hasim Teen to a red card. Moro then made it two-nil, before Luke Oliver saw red too. Either side of that, Oxford United scored two of their own to rescue a point.
IT’S BARROW AGAIN…
Of all the clubs in League Two this season, we’ve known few as long as we have done Barrow. Our first meeting with the Bluebirds came way back in August 1998;
HISTORY
1982 Ware 3-1 Stevenage Borough, East Anglian Cup (Gittings)
1989 Finchley 0-4 Stevenage Borough, Vauxhall Opel League Division Two North (McComb 2, O’Keefe)
1995 Stevenage Borough 4-0 Macclesfield Town, GM Vauxhall Conference (Sodje, Berry, Lynch, Hayles)
2000 Doncaster Rovers 0-0
Stevenage Borough, Nationwide Conference
2006 Stevenage Borough 2-2 Oxford United , Conference National (Morison 2)
2008 Ebbsfleet United 3-0 Stevenage Borough, Setanta Shield R4
2017 Stevenage 5-2 Swindon Town, FA Cup R2 (Samuel, Godden, Pett, Newton 2)
2020 Walsall 1-1 Stevenage, Sky Bet League Two (Oteh)
nearly a quarter of a century if you’re counting. But the fact we come into this one off the back of 11 previous meetings is because our time together is spread across three different eras. First, there was that one-season Conference outing for them during the 1998-9 campaign. They returned to the top of the non-league ladder a decade later; Boro’ squeezing in two successive seasons in their company. And, now,
Barrow’s return to the Football League has us on three straight campaigns. So, does that mean something will give come May?
MAGIC MOMENT: Blue Square Premier 09 March 2010
STEVENAGE FC 4 BARROW AFC 0
STARTING XI 16 Chris Day 25 Ronnie Henry 5 Jon Ashton 14 Mark Roberts 3 Scott Laird 18 David Bridges (60) 8 Stacy Long 24 Michael Bostwick 11 Yemi Odubade 10 Lee Boylan (52) 20 Chris Beardsley (75)

After a slightly iffy February by that season’s standards, Boro’ stepped things up a level in the quest for the Blue Square Premier title as March came around. By the time the Bluebirds arrived for this midweek encounter, we’d won four out of four in all competitions; three in the league and an FA Trophy quarter final. Our guests found us to be in ruthless form here. It took 28 minutes to break the deadlock; Yemi Odubade driving home into the bottom corner. Scott Laird was then on hand just before the interval to make it two. Boro’ had no intention of letting it slip either; Odubade doubling up on 59 minutes and then making it a treble with six minutes left. A fourth successive league win for Boro’ was handy enough. It was a run in which we’d scored 13 goals without reply too. But, even
better, was the news that Oxford had lost at home to Hayes & Yeading. The outcome was that we were two points clear at the top and in a position we wouldn’t look back from.
ON BOTH SIDES…
It’s not the longest list in the world –but there are certainly some notable names who have the honour of turning out for both us and them.
Paul Farman, Remeao Hutton, and Byron Harrison are a trio who added Barrow to their respective career paths after spending time with us. Andy Bond, Inih Effiong, and Neil Illman are an example of three players to do things the other way around. And did you know that Boro’ legend Efe Sodje had a brief loan spell at Barrow towards the end of his playing days too?
ByACADEMY
Good Evening, and good luck to Steve Evans, his coaching staff, and the players for this evening’s game against Barrow. The Stevenage FC EDP has settled in well since our move to the Hertfordshire FA County Ground in September. The players love playing on what is arguably the best college programme facility in the region and we are building a great relationship with the Herts FA. We have recently held an open day for next year’s cohort and were really
pleased with the application and quality of the players that attended. Additionally, it was excellent to see over 30 players across all the three open days, proving to be one of the most popular turnouts for the programme ever.
The programme is going from strength to strength with nine players featuring within academy fixtures this season including an appearance in the Herts Senior Cup with the U18’s.
Looking at league results, the boys are in a really strong positions across all three teams; with the A side sitting 3rd after 4 games and three points off top, the B side are 4th with 13 points and 6 points off top spot with 3 games in hand, whilst the C side are 7th with games in hand over the teams above them. These current results lead to an exciting second half of the season.
If you are 16-18 years old or have a son of similar age and are interested in our programme, please come and check us out on Wednesday 21st December open day or alternatively contact myself on Tomm@stevenagefc.com Enjoy the game!

STEVENAGE FCW 4 HARINGEY BOROUGH WOMEN 4Ray, Re, Neal, Farmer, Webster (c), Price, Southby, Shephard, Nebbit, Makewell, Bellinger
Subs: Millen, Bodily, Uwaifo, Schofield
Goals: Southby, Neal x 2, Shephard
It was a pulsating game at The County Ground on Sunday as Stevenage twice battled back from behind to take a well-earned point from a difficult encounter. Both sides went into the game in second and third place respectively, with Haringey boasting the more impressive goals scored column, but Stevenage much tighter at the back. It took just eleven minutes for Shakira Roberts to pierce that solid defence. Boro had started well, but as the midfield lost possession a through ball was played to perfection for Roberts to chase. She beat the defence for speed and when face with Celine Ray, slotted the ball across goal to the far post.
Three minutes later, the deficit doubled as captain Victoria Campbell sent a sublime ball over Ray and into the net. Borough were troubled and against the ropes but they came back swinging. Amy Makewell led the charge with a couple of fantastic efforts and a yellow card for an over enthusiastic press. Becky Shephard came the closest though, seeing her header thunder off the crossbar. With ten minutes remaining of the half, Boro finally found the net. It had a hint of good fortune as Haringey did not clear their lines, but Jodie Southby, playing her first game since early October, rose highest to nod the ball into the net for her first goal of the season.
Stevenage continued to push and when a free kick was earned near the corner flag, Shephard took up the duties. Her cross
was inch perfect and Vicky Neal met it with aplomb as she headed towards ground and net to open her account for the campaign. The second half saw more action and it mirrored the first half. Boro started strongly but Ray pulled off two magnificent saves in quick succession. However, eleven minutes in again and Kylie Manktelow picked up the ball from fully forty yards to send a rocket over Ray and into the net.
It took a bit longer for them to extend their lead again, but not before Stevenage had a goal disallowed from Neal for an apparent obstruction by Bellinger, much to the bemusement of the 100 strong crowd. Instead, Neal’s day was dealt a harsh blow as a bit of interplay at the back with Ray was pounced upon by Roberts in the box for her second of the game. Boro were up against it and as in the first half, dug in. A multitude of changes saw Kelsey Millen and Susan Uwaifo join the fray and this gave Haringey new questions to answer. However, they still could not answer the question of how to stop Neal from set pieces as with seven minutes remaining she sent another superb header into the net from a Shephard corner.
As the 90th minute ticked around, Boro attacked again. Makewell increased her record of being involved in a goal to six games on the trot as she laid the ball across to Shephard who rounded off her game with a superb goal from the left hand side to notch her ninth goal of the season from just ten games. It was a result that allowed both AFC Sudbury and Needham Market to leapfrog both sides, but if this result teaches us anything, it is that this team just does not know how to give up.

anyone’s guess which side will turn up. Certainly they began the campaign in soaring form, winning five of their first six league games to really set the pace with Boro and Leyton Orient.
Alongside this they also dumped Blackpool out of the EFL Cup with a win on penalties after a 0-0 draw at Bloomfield Road, although they went out in the next round on penalties after a 2-2 draw at Holker Street.

MEET THE BOSS:
Pete Wild has been involved with football coaching since his teenage years when he turned his hand to that alongside playing for a local amateur side.
Although he never played the game professionally, Wild’s talent for coaching was recognised by hometown club Oldham Athletic and he began working in The Latics’ Academy.
After a decade plying his trade at Boundary Park, Oldham turned to Wild as Caretaker Manager in December 2018 following the departure of Frankie Bunn and he went on to win his first two games in charge.
Wild stepped aside upon the appointment of Paul Scholes but
ONE TO WATCH:
was handed the reins temporarily once more when the Manchester United legend’s tenure ended in March 2019. After a couple of months in the top job at Boundary Park, Wild left the club and re-emerged as the new man in charge at FC Halifax Town in July 2019. Since then, he has gone about enhancing his reputation as one of the brightest up and coming coaches in the game and become a real favourite with Town supporters.
Wild took charge of just under 150 games during his three seasons at The Shay, boasting a win percentage of almost 50% which helped Halifax finish fourth in the National League and qualify for the play-offs in 2021/22.
Boro need to be on their guard against experienced front man Billy Waters who has been finding the back of the net of late. Waters has seven this season and helped himself to a hat-trick on November 1 as the Bluebirds beat Colchester 3-1 in league action.
The 28-year-old began his career at Crewe in 2013 and has played in the league for Cheltenham, Cambridge Northampton and Newport.
He joined in June of this year following a spell at FC Halifax Town, where he joined up again with boss Pete Wild.

Family and friends have gathered at Stevenage F.C. to remember and celebrate the life of Andrew Parker who sadly passed away one year ago. Stevenage F.C. were excellent when we lost Andrew arranging a one minutes silence before the game in Andrew’s memory due to his commitment to Football through refereeing and his passion for the game. The family were very grateful for this kind gesture.
One year has passed and we know Andrew will be looking down on the game and hoping for a Boro’ victory.

It’s a cold, damp December Friday evening and Barrow is over 300 miles away. If you’re a Barrow supporter who has made the journey to Stevenage today, then I have nothing but absolute respect for you.
Dave Leitch is a Barrow National Supporters’ Club organiser. If you’re in the ground tonight Dave, then look me up. It’d be great to have a chat. My abiding memory of playing Barrow was in the FA Trophy final at Wembley in 2010. We’ll say no more...
FOOTBALL SUPPORTERS’ ASSOCIATION (FSA)
The Fan-led review of Football Governance still dominates debate within the FSA as well as the spectre of the European Super League.
Tracey Crouch MP (chair of the review) had cause to comment on the fact that she had recently been called a ‘Maoist’ by an over-exuberant Premier League club CEO. “A novel experience for a life-long Conservative” she said.
The review focusses on six topics: Governance, Finance, Engagement, Heritage, Reform and Distribution. The review cites that 50% of the board of the FA should be made up of independent non-executive directors, to reduce the influence of the ‘elite’ clubs. A wholesale reformation of the FA Council is also advocated.

Who of you went away with us to Kings Lynn last weekend? What a great day out that was, and what a victory to boot. We’re off again on Saturday December 17th – to Wimbledon. It’s only £20 return for members. Don’t forget, that a TRAIN STRIKE is currently scheduled for this day, so it makes absolute sense to go on the SA bus. Details here

Every Stevenage fan knows that our club was formed just forty-six years ago. Our club chairman (Phil Wallace) has been at the helm for almost half of that time (since 1999), where we have enjoyed stability and steady growth. I have been the chair of our supporters’ club for nigh on 18 years and I consider myself to be in a unique and rare position, especially when compared to my peer chairmen across other clubs. The Supporters’ Association has always enjoyed an amicable relationship with our club, whereas a great many fans’ groups of other clubs’ experience conflict, distrust and contempt, bordering downright hostility. Being ‘Boro’ fans, we have seen the “highs” and the “lows” over the years. We’re currently on a “high”, and much credit to Phil Wallace for bringing in Steve Evans who has turned our on-pitch performance around. Long may it continue. However, we must never forget where we came from. The attached newspaper cutting comes from The Comet of August 12th 1976. I look back to those years, and when I consider where we are now as a club, am indebted to the likes of Jacky and Keith Berners, Mervyn Stoke-Geddes and many others since passed, who were – are the foundation of this club. It is an honour to be your chairman.
