Human Performance Technology enhances learning experience says training provider

I

nTouch Care, a government funded training provider, and StudioCode, the leader in Human Performance Analysis technology who built their reputation working with the world’s leading sports teams, today announced a technology partnership and integration.

The partnership will enable In Touch Care to deliver unrivalled training in the Health, Social Care, Childcare, Dental Nursing and Business Administration sectors. “We are proud to partner with In Touch Care,” said Nick Harrison, Account Manager for StudioCode. “We believe this integration is a perfect fit for the needs of the students and delegates that have such specific training requirements in the health, dental, Social Care and Childcare sectors. StudioCode’s unique technology can be integrated with simulators creating the most advanced training environment.” "As training providers focus on improving the qualifications, education, knowledge and the employability of their students and delegates, many have found that our technology gives them the systems and infrastructure to not only assess the competency of the ‘learner’ but to also be able to monitor progress and provide evidence of that progression.” StudioCode has a suite of products that offer complete fixed or mobile solutions for training providers. Data is gathered via an iPad application and can then be sent back to Headquarters for analysis and assessment, the benefit of this is that data can be shared to anyone, anywhere, to increase distance learning whilst increasing productivity and efficiency. In Touch Care was launched in 1994 by the Executive Director, Jo North, with the sole purpose of being the best provider of government funded training in the Health, Social Care, Childcare, Dental Nursing and Business Administration sectors.

Nick Harrison of StudioCode “The integration of StudioCode and our partnership is extremely valuable to us here at In Touch Care” said Jo North. “The StudioCode system together with our simulators are now providing us with the tools to assess the competency of our Learners as well as our own staff. Continuous assessment using these tools allows us to monitor progress and provide evidence of that progress, as well as identifying further training needs if necessary.”

Jo continued: “This type of technology is not only creative and innovative, but also groundbreaking on a global scale. It provides training organisations such as ours with tangible evidence of competence as well as giving the learner a feeling of confidence that they are achieving key milestones in their specialist field. StudioCode has become a vital tool in helping us to deliver unrivalled training in the UK.”

An exciting new development at MediaCityUK named ‘Tomorrow’ has got underway.

£20M EXPANSION AT MEDIACITYUK COMMENCES ON TOMORROW The £20m project totals over 100,000 sq ft and fronts onto Broadway. It features a 112-bed hotel - enhancing the offering at MediaCityUK as a visitor destination and new offices and studio space to meet the increasing demand for the fast-growing creative and digital industries. Bowmer and Kirkland, (the appointed construction partner on the scheme), started work earlier last month (March 2015), using architectural plans completed by Chapman Taylor and work is scheduled to be completed by summer 2016. The managing director of MediaCityUK, Stephen Wild, said: “MediaCityUK has been a key trigger in the explosion of creative start-ups and national relocations so it’s essential that we give these businesses the right type of space and the flexibility to grow organically. The design of Tomorrow is experimental, quirky and a little bit different and what will be on offer at Tomorrow will be complementary to the state-of-

the-art digital technology in broadcast & production, audio and virtual reality arena currently offered at the Landing and Dock10. Equally, MediaCityUK has become a thriving destination and our new hotel will be able to service the increasing number of people visiting the area”. Tomorrow will be located in a 10-storey building, with four floors dedicated to the hotel (Premier Inn), while the remaining six will be for business use. The office space will provide a blank canvas for occupiers to design their own creative space that is unique to their requirements. The offices will have a studio/warehouse feel, with features including exposed ceilings. Neil Brook, Regional Director for Bowmer and Kirkland said: “Bowmer and Kirkland is delighted to have been awarded this prestigious project for the Peel Group at MediaCityUK. We hope that this will be the first of many projects as we continue to grow our business in the North West”. Tomorrow will give businesses an extra option for location of commercial premises, adding to The Greenhouse, The Pie Factory, White, Orange and Blue Towers, The Landing, Digital World Centre, Quay West, The Victoria and The Alexandra. As well as being home to the BBC, ITV, Coronation Street and the University of Salford, more than 200 smaller media and tech companies are now based at MediaCityUK. Earlier this year the Peel Group (“Peel”) announced Legal & General Capital (“LGC”) as the new 50% shareholder in its landmark MediaCityUK scheme at Salford Quays, Manchester. Salford City Council gave the green light to plans in September 2014.

The fundraising plans haven't stopped there, as Pollards have just announced a line up of events that will all contribute towards the charity. The summer events will commence with the return of their very popular Pollards Beer & Music Festival on the 10/11/12 July, followed by two ticketed events; an evening of comedy and music with Stan Boardman on Saturday 18th July and an evening with vocalist John O'Connell on Friday 24th July (both events to be held in Pollards summer marquee). "We've got off to a great start with our fundraising efforts and we must thank our customers for their generosity in giving so freely at our charity events. We're looking forward to a great turn out at our Summer Events and to driving up our fundraising total for Clatterbridge." www.pollardsinn.co.uk Following an announcement earlier this year that they had chosen The Clatterbridge Cancer Charity as their annual charity, Wirral Country Gastro-Pub, Pollards Inn, have been busy in their efforts to put their money where they mouth is.

Speaking about their decision to support The Clatterbridge Cancer Charity, owner of Pollards Inn, Jamie Kimpton, said: "We wanted to choose a charity that was on our doorstep as it's important to us that we give back to the local community. Since choosing The Clatterbridge Cancer Charity we've been astounded by how many of our customers have shared their stories with us, telling us how their lives and those of their families have been touched or helped by the pioneering work and care provided at Clatterbridge. It's clearly a charity close to peoples hearts."

Following a host of recent events including a ladies lunch, Cheltenham Race Day, Mothers Day donation initiative and last weeks Bubbles & Buble ladies evening, the charity have confirmed that to date Pollards Inn have raised an impressive £2813.

Commenting on the support shown by Pollards to date, Louise Beach, Fundraising Manager for The Clatterbridge Cancer Charity, said: "We can't thank Jamie, the Pollards Inn team, and of course Pollards customers for their generous donations to date. We rely heavily on the fundraising efforts of our corporate partners and Pollards have demonstrated exactly what can be achieved in a small space of time with some planning, commitment and creative ideas!"

The latest investment comes less than a year after we purchased a new Fuchs crane. The Fuchs MHL 360E operates at our facility’s rail head which is handling more than 200,000 tonnes a year. Peel Ports played a key role in the reopening of the rail head in 2011. It handles all types of cargo including bulk, container and FMCG, both inbound and outbound and enables us to feed into the national and European rail network through its relationships with major rail operators. Sebastian Gardiner, Managing Director of Quality Freight UK, said: “The signing of our new lease is an important milestone as it provides security for the further, significant investment we plan to make in the next 12-18 months. Our capital expenditure programme reinforces our commitment to Ellesmere Port and our desire to enhance our position as a leading multi-modal facility. The signing of the lease and our expansion plans will also enable us to add to our 50-strong workforce. Peel Ports are an excellent partner because they share the same passion and commitment in ensuring that UK ports are able to offer the best possible infrastructure, facilities and services.” Andrew Martin, Group Land and Property Director for Peel Ports, said: “We are delighted to have put in place a long-term partnership agreement with Quality Freight at Ellesmere Port. LIVERPOOL RESTAURANT LAUNCHES EXCLUSIVE SUPPER CLUB

I

t was the reservation everyone wanted and we were excited to have our place at the table of the first Panoramic34 Supper Club as it launched last week.

The atmosphere was everything you would expect from this exclusive fine dining restaurant. A mix of foodies, suits and loyal Panoramic34 guests gathered in the penthouse (the private dining suite for Panoramic34) on what promised to be a memorable evening. The backdrop was spectacular, (is there a more stunning view than the famous Liverpool skyscape at night?), but no sooner had guests had their heads turned by the view than it was eyes down as course after course of delectable dining was served. As a guest it was wonderful to be able to watch the dishes being created in the open kitchen, talk to Chefs about their top tips and of course to mingle and network with other guests in this unique communal dining experience. The evening was held in conjunction with Nyetimber, (the British sparkling wine from Southern England), and the partnership didn't disappoint. Carefully selected sparkling wines complimented a confident and considered menu that included Jerusalem Artichoke Soup, Pork Belly (Eel and Foie Gras Terrine), Butter Poached Lobster, Slow Roasted Goose, and a heavenly dessert of Custard Panna Cotta with poached rhubarb, ginger crumble and vanilla ice cream. Host and owner of Panoramic34, Cathy Frost, said: "We've been discussing the launch of the Supper Club for some time, so it was wonderful to see our vision and plans come to fruition. We've built our reputation on fine dining, creative menus

and memorable dining experiences, so we wanted the supper club to be an extension of our oering in the restaurant, taking the guest to the next level, enabling them to engage with and interact with our Chef's as they prepared and served up the evenings menu. Feedback has been overwhelming and we're already planning our next Supper Club event." With only 16 places available at each Supper Club the #EDiT team advice is keep your eyes peeled for Supper Club announcements and to book your place quickly! Panoramic34 Supper Club events are hosted on a monthly basis.

Pop (up) Art comes to Liverpool One You know how we love pop-up and ONEart is no exception.

ONEart

is a collection of 14 artists, all local to Liverpool. ONEart was founded by Freida McKitrick, Karen Edwards and Katherine Caldwell, who decided to invite some of their own circle of talented and trusted artist friends to come and sell their work in the impressive prime spot in L1. The shop/gallery is unique in that all artists know about each other's work (some already work together in the city's artist studios) and are proud to tell ONEart customers about it.

Bringing a brand new type of retail experience to one of the busiest shopping complexes in the country, the ONEart team are keen to break down the barrier between the producer (the artist) and the customer. Speaking about the pop-up venture artist and founder Katherine Caldwell said :"While many of us have lots of incredibly valued stockists and exhibit in galleries around the country, it is so nice for us to be behind the counter for once and to be able to talk with customers about the inspirations and stories behind our work. There is definitely something incredibly special about ONEart, and it is an absolute joy to be a part of." ONEart is open for 6 weeks, and based on the upper level of Liverpool One's main shopping complex. Go visit them!

Bespoke Style #EDiT speak to Patrick Barker, owner at Crichton Bespoke Tailoring about... ....the resurgence in classic tailoring, signature style at Crichton and how to be discerning when choosing your first tailored piece.

How long have you been in business? I’ve been personally involved with the business for about 12 years. The Crichton name has been recognised in the industry for 60 years but as a family we took control 30 years ago. How has the business evolved over the years? The business has evolved considerably over the years. We were founded as bespoke shirt makers and over the years have expanded our skillset to emphasise a focus on the traditional, British school of gentleman’s tailoring. The business is now completely built around creating bespoke suits for our discerning customer base. We do not hold stock and everything is made individually in our Chester workrooms. Who is involved? Crichton Bespoke is an independent, family owned business that in recent years has grown to include the right mix of experienced tailors and creative apprentices. This brings a modern twist to an inherently traditional trade. What are you best known for? Although the company’s origins are rooted in creating bespoke shirts, we have developed a reputation for elegant, timeless tailoring across all aspects of the modern gentleman’s wardrobe. From formal dinner wear to hunting breaches; from boardroom attire to the perfect wedding piece, we are known for our dedication to bespoke rather than any one style.

Do you have a signature style at Crichton? Our house style lounge suit is a traditional British cut. It has a natural shoulder line, small arm hole cutting a wider sleeve, allowing freedom of movement while creating a very flattering silhouette. We are seeing a return to classic style for men recently. Have you experienced an increase in customers looking for bespoke tailoring rather than off the peg. Undoubtedly. Bespoke is huge at the moment. Although we’ve been growing year on year, the big trend is the falling age group. More and more younger people are expressing an interest in British tailoring and sartorial heritage than ever before. When you look at the pages of GQ and the increasing amount of dedicated magazines and blogs, you get a feel of just how important classic tailoring is becoming.

FASHION FEATURE Talk us through creating something at Crichton Bespoke. For a bespoke suit we insist on three fittings, the first of which determines the customers measurements and allows us to cut an individual card pattern. We would then consult with the customer on the cut and style to ensure a flattering outcome. They would choose their cloth from a library of cloth books, deciding on things such as weight, material, colour and purpose. A few weeks later a base fitting allows us to check balance and drape before ‘ripping it down’ and re-cutting. The final fitting is about seeing a near complete suit on the person and making small adjustments to ensure the perfect fit. It is then pressed into shape during a process that requires considerable skill and impacts heavily on the finished shape. What advice would you give someone embarking on his or her first bespoke tailoring experience. I always tell people that are choosing their first bespoke piece to start with something classic. Do not over complicate things. Certain looks are timeless for a reason. Classic items can be accessorised up or down with life and attitude injected into a look as and when required. Versatility is the key to getting the most out of your bespoke collection. Be warned though, It can become an addictive passion. It is great to see British tailoring thriving – How do you keep the 'Made in Britain' flag flying?

Tell us a bit about your selection of cloth. What influences your choices? We carry hundreds of cloth books. Colour and pattern are ultimately subjective but we always showcase a wide variety of traditional patterns such as, pin stripes, bird’s eyes and Prince of Wales checks. We also keep an evolving collection of more flamboyant ideas to meet the needs of some of our more colourful clients. Describe your own signature style and where your inspiration comes from. I love double-breasted suits and am pleased to see them making a come back. I am fortunate that I can occasionally wear some bold statement suits because of my profession, but generally my style is rooted in classic Savile Row elegance.

British tailoring is thriving because people are talking about the craftsmanship of British tailoring traditions like never before. Social media is flooded with a growing number of enthusiasts. We do our bit however, by championing the wealth of quality cloth merchants still operating throughout the UK. We continuously use Fox Brothers in Somerset, who have been producing world-class flannel since 1772, the worsted suitings of Dugdale Brothers in Huddersfield, Harris Tweed in the Outer Hebrides and Donegal Tweed in Ireland to name but a few. We actually rely heavily on the continuing quality of their product in order to do what we do best.

The Lasting Legacy of

The Celebration of Women Words by Debbie Edwards

By the time you read this the fuss will have completely died down. Nearly 400 women will have exited the function room at the Crown Plaza in Liverpool and the noise will have exited with them. As Liverpool gears up for another spectacular event I spoke to Ellen Kerr, one of the organisers, to find out what makes Merseyside Woman of the Year (WOTY) so successful and once the furore of the day dies down, what legacy are they truly leaving behind.

T

heir time as guests at the 2014 Merseyside Woman of the Year Awards (WOTY) will no doubt have long lasting effects and the legacy of those hours spent will be talked about at the water cooler, in the boardroom, around the dinner table and for months to come. It is this that sets WOTY apart as one of the most uplifitng events in the Liverpool events calendar and is the reason why both women and men fight to get tickets each year. I surprise myself every time I attend WOTY at how much I enjoy it. Not typically stirred at the prospect of joining a room full of women, (and a scattering of men), it is the one event that really has an effect. It makes me feel powerful, and not in a transient sense, as it offers an insight into the varying areas in which each of the nominated women excel, often quietly, and demonstrates just how much impact they have. It is the kind of power that fills you up - it makes you want to do more, be more. Like a great movie or a song that shifts your thinking, there is nothing quite like an event that makes you feel as though anything is possible. 'The idea of the awards is actully really simple,' explains Ellen Kerr, one of the key organisers of the event. 'We provide a platform for women across the Northwest who are all doing something fantastic, often astounding, in their own right and

www.merseysidewomenoftheyear.co.uk

showcase their amazing achievements. This is not the normal 'business focussed' awards ceremony by any means - it is a celebration across every sector and often includes many women who you will never have heard of but whom will be the absolute anchor and rock of every community or organisation in which they operate.' She is right - this isn't the usual business awards at all. It is an afternoon of laughter and tears and a staggering recognition of the role that many of these women play. They volunteer at rape crisis centres, raise significant awareness and much needed funds for charities, run

This is not the normal 'business focussed' awards ceremony by any means - it is a celebration across every sector and often includes many women who you will never have heard of but whom will be the absolute anchor and rock of every community or organisation in which they operate.' community groups and an amazing array of other life aďŹƒrming activities. Ellie continues, 'Many of the women who are here today are totally surpised when they are nominated as they are just humbly going about their day to day lives and this is also what makes them so special. They do not put themselves forward and there is no award submission that needs to be filled out - they are put forward by people who know them, love them, like them or who have even been saved by them, and I defy anyone to not be moved by some of the stories that are told on the day.' Ellie and her co organisers, Elaine Owen and Jean Gatsby are also a reflection of this humble approach. I know that profits from the event are invested in providing support for at least two women so far

who have wanted to return to education but have found that a lack of funds will preclude them - funds from the event help to pay for them to get back to college creating a lasting legacy for them and their families. Again, examples of fantastic women just quietly making a dierence - it is all humbling and I realise that although I might wince sometimes at the thought of attending an 'all women' event deep down it is something that I need. There is a silent connection between every single person in that room - like making a deposit in the bank of 'feel good factor'. I was going to say that every young woman should attend this event but in truth every young person should when it comes to being inspired there is no room for separatism between the sexes. Whilst I am writing this my daughter pops headphones onto my head with a playlist she has devised that she says will 'inspire me whilst I write'. She already gets it, that need to feel connected to something that makes you aspire to something greater, whatever that may be. Maybe its now my turn to introduce her to the power of WOTY 2015.

From bootcamp to boardroom How sport can influence strength and performance Words by Debbie Edwards www.newerafitnessandperformance.co.uk

As high level athletes turn increasingly to business practices, data and analysis, to improve performance, we review how the opposite, adopting a sports regime and a strength mentality, can influence performance at work and why more top CEO's and senior managers are turning to top level sports coaches for inspiration.

I

didn't want to write this article as a spectator. The concept of fitness as a key to performance had always intrigued me and haunted me in equal measure. Over the years I had tried countless fitness classes and joined the same gym numerous times only to find my interest wane as fast as my energy diminished.

I am sure there are those reading this who could tell a similar story and as with many things in life my own 'Road to Damascus' moment was all about timing and I was getting tired of my own excuses. It had been nearly two years since I had set foot in a gym and deep down I knew I needed a jolt - something that would give me the energy boost I needed but subliminally I was looking for something more. I wanted to feel stronger, permanently, and I knew that no amount of individual sessions at the gym were going to provide this - so I embarked on a journey and joined a different kind of fitness regime supported by two 'trending' self help books (more about this later).

“Stress, and stress related illnesses in the workplace are currently costing UK industry an estimated 6.5bn pounds each year and relate to a potential 10.4m days of absence and it is only the savvy employers who are doing anything about it. “

The place I have chosen (or did it choose me?) is a fitness, health and wellbeing company called New Era Fitness. Based around holistic principles it felt more like a family, with access to nutritional advice and as much encouragement and enthusiasm as you can stand - and it works. The results for me, and many other who I train with is astounding I am fitter and stronger than I have ever been. More importantly there has been a seismic shift in my mindset and I now see my own health and wellbeing as my top priority - sounds simple but in 44 years I have always managed to create a very long list of things 'To Do' before this. Now I focus on the basics of eat well, sleep well, breathe and train and suddenly I can feel the balance being restored. Based in Priory Point, in the heart of Birkenhead, Chris Brown (MD) is the coach, mentor and educator to every individual who steps into New Era and let me tell you - if you have a backpack full of excuses like me then this is not the place to try and hide. Ultimately this is an important part of the process. "I wanted to create a place where people can grow" says Chris "I don't want people to come here just to exercise as this mindset will only take them so far. New Era is coaching centric and focused on strengthening peoples minds, as well as their bodies, in order to really make an impact." I am sure this resonates with many and in a world where we are continually 'switched on' it is even more essential to strike the right balance. My own journey comes at a time when the world of sport and the world of business are becoming even more intertwined. Top athletes, now analyse performance daily and use data to track how they can improve and similarly top CEO's and senior managers look to sport and wellbeing to gain strength in the boardroom. It is the smart corporates that are recognising the need to invest in health and wellbeing and whilst not

renowned for their interval training there are some famous names of successful entrepreneurs who have always been known for their 'active' approach in work. Steve Jobs, Mark Zuckerberg, President Obama (and now an increasing number of people who are installing a 'walking desk'), all favour 'walking meetings' with many a new venture and business deal being struck in transit rather than the boardroom. However, as with most transitions in life I quickly realise that with any long term changes it is not just about the physical - in fact, that is the easy part. When I started this article I was focused entirely on performance - how to improve it through physical activity and how to maintain it with a focus on a healthier lifestyle. That was until I read 'Thrive' by Arianna HuďŹƒngton, CEO of HuďŹƒngton Post, and 'The Chimp Paradox' by Dr Steve Peters and I realised there was more to performance than just physical prowess and endurance. (Both of these books resonated so much that I will be reviewing each if them in the next edition of #EDiT). The mind, and our mindset, play a significant part in our ability to master the physical and whilst the heart is a muscle, a physical thing, it is often its emotional function that causes the biggest repercussions. Stress, and stress related illnesses in the workplace are currently costing UK industry an estimated 6.5bn pounds each year and relate to a potential 10.4m days of absence and it is only the savvy employers who are doing anything about it. Health and well being programmes, mindfulness, yoga, personal training and rewards for adopting a healthier lifestyle are all new factors within the corporate world that both individuals and organisations are already seeing the benefits of. For me, this is now a lifelong choice, not a transient blip in my usual haphazard approach to health and fitness and it is providing me with much needed balance. 'People can be fooled by a need to always be 'switched on' and busy, both in and outside work' says Chris, 'but this approach does not aid performance. Rest and recovery is equally as important in the desire for strength and I make this very clear to everyone who walks through the door at New Era - breathe, train well, eat well and sleep well. It may sound simple but those who understand these principles will quickly see results in both mind and body.' If I can. Anyone can.

When you first set up NEOM what was your vision for the brand? I came up with the idea for Neom Organics when I was working 60 hours a week as a journalist down in London. The hectic lifestyle really started to take its toll and I could also see it affecting my friends who were leading similar lifestyles. I started blending my own little tinctures of therapeutic treatments using complex blends of essential oils that helped them have a better night’s sleep or feel that bit less stressed. So I trained as an aromatherapist and started Neom creating products that didn’t just smell amazing, but really had the power to change your mood. It had to be luxurious, but truly purposeful too.

Describe your 'stand out' defining moments from your career in the past ten years. When we first saw our logo on the front of a box, was pretty exciting. When Kylie Minogue told us how much she loved the therapeutic scented candles and Selfridges made a big order was amazing too. However I am most proud of where we are today. Neom is the fastest growing wellbeing fragrance brand in the UK and we still have so much to do!

Based on your experience what is the best piece of advice for someone on the cusp of turning a passion into a business? You’ve got to truly believe in your idea and I think it’s all about having an enthusiastic team with the right attitude and believe in knocking problems out of the way. You’re going to face problems along the way but it’s just about finding that solution. When we set out, we wanted to create 100% natural products including our revolutionary scented candles, which is actually a really difficult

#BusinessInfluencer Business, Beauty & Balance We speak with Nicola Elliot brains behind cult luxury organic brand Neom.

thing to do. Everyone was like ‘no you can’t do that’ but, eventually, we found a way.

This year saw the launch of your first NEOM Wellbeing Store - what will customers be able to experience when they visit? Our first ever store and treatment rooms in Wimbledon Village is the perfect physical representation of Neom. As well as offering a unique shopping experience, it will host classes, tutorials and talks from our Neom Wellbeing Board of experts, focusing on sleep, nutrition and mindfulness, amongst many others things. There’s also two private Wellbeing Treatment Rooms tucked away in the back where you can experience our new tailored Neom Wellbeing Spa treatments, carried out by our highly trained therapists. Check out what’s happening in our Wimbledon Village Store and Treatment Rooms here: www.neomorganics.com/wimbledon

How do you engender wellness in the workplace with your own team? Having a happy team is crucial to a happy workplace, and I definitely try and cultivate this in the Neom team. We have slightly more women who work for us with young children, so if your child is sick or you have a meeting at their school, there’s quite a lot of flexibility in the team and I encourage my staff to make time for themselves every day – the biggest part, I believe, of wellbeing. I also encourage ‘digital detoxes’ for the team, meaning completely turning off tech over the weekend or some nights to help you mind switch off, after all wellbeing is just as about your mind as well as your body. We’ve currently got a bit of an informal ‘wellbeing book club’ going on in the office too. Healthy cookbooks like Deliciously Ella and Honestly Healthy are being passed around so we’re all trying out healthy new recipes. We’ve recently been trying out some healthy kitchen gadgets too like the Hemsley + Hemsley Spiralizer and a great nut milk maker – all to be featured in our new Neom Wellbeing Magazine launching at the end of May – so look out for that! www.neomorganics.com/wellbeing

What does the next ten years look like for the NEOM brand? Our plan is to continue to grow the brand in the UK and overseas and roll out more store openings. Our Wimbledon Village Store & Treatment Rooms is quickly becoming a real hub of the community and this is exactly what we wanted for the first Neom retail space. We’re also on a mission to truly champion making time for your wellbeing, there’s too much guilt – especially for women! – surrounding prioritising your health and happiness, and I want to try and change this.

Which product are you excited about bringing to market this year? We've just launched the Neom organics intensive skin treatment candle. In just one application, it intensively treats tired and stressed skin whilst deeply relaxing both body and mind. It's available in two signature Neom blends and the incredibly unique skin-nourishing formula works to intensively repair and protect dry, tired and stressed skin. When applied, the warmth created increases circulation, allowing the special blend of

restorative Neom essential oils to hit the bloodstream in just 20 minutes. The incredibly moisturising candle wax is blended using the purest hydrating cocoa butter, vitamin rich soybean and almond oils and 100% natural vegetable wax. Formulated with a low melt point, the nourishing oil is ready to be drizzled onto skin after just 2 minutes of cooling. Simply light for 15-45 minutes, before applying the soothing therapeutic pool of oil directly onto skin. When used each day, the rich 100% natural oil blend will work to dramatically improve dehydrated and damaged skin. We're really excited to bring this special spa quality product to the marketplace.

What does a day being you look like? I honestly don’t have a typical day. Our head office is based in Harrogate, but we’ve recently opened up our flagship store in Wimbledon Village. So between visiting the shop, meeting journalists and catching up with my business partner, I’m often running

around down in London. When I am at home, I’ll drop the kids of at school and then head to the office for 9am, making business calls on my way in. I head up the creative side of things and there’s always something new and exciting going on, but I generally leave the office on time so that I can get home and spend some quality time with my kids.

The NEOM brand is an advocate for wellness and wellbeing - how do you integrate this ethos into your own family life? I place a high priority on taking care of myself and my personal wellbeing. After all, we need to be healthy and happy ourselves to be able to take care of others. And I believe women need to stop feeling guilty for taking that time for ourselves. I try to take a little time out for myself each day, whether that’s a quick run in the morning (I’m training for the Great North Run at the minute so I’ve had to up my training schedule!), or an extra-long relaxing bath in the evening, just having that time to switch off from being a mum/wife/boss is super important for me. I am a firm believer in pressing pause and making time for yourself and your own wellbeing.

Here at #EDiT we're all about the 'Headspace' App to keep us balanced and stress free - any health tech/apps that you cannot live without? We have a team of 11 wellbeing experts – the Neom Wellbeing Board (you can see these amazing women here: www.neomorganics.com/wellbeingboard) who are constantly on hand to offer advice and expert tips for Neom customers. They’re experts in fields such as mindfulness, sleep, fitness, nutrition, Psychology and much more, and really help us provide that 360° support system to our customers on getting the best night’s sleep, relieving stress, boosting energy, lifting mood and techniques to teach the body and mind to relax. So for anyone looking for advice, they can come to Neom.

#My Secret Feasts As the corporate world emerges from the recession and look for more inventive and interesting ways to entertain clients, we discover that the average 'table for ten' event no longer satisďŹ es their desires. They are looking for something dierent, a candlelit, intimate aair that speaks volumes about their brand values and we know just the people to talk to about tapping into that vibe.

My Secret Feasts, based in the Northwest and launched in 2013 by Belinda Diamond and Rebecca Brereton, is paving the way for both corporate and personal culinary events. Instinctive in their choice of lesser known venues and visionaries when it comes to menu's and the entire dining experience, Belinda and Rebecca embody a new wave of foodies who are determined that dining experiences, especially in the corporate world, will no longer be fifty shades of grey. It is Wednesday afternoon when I meet them at Belinda's home and there is a frisson of activity in her kitchen as preparation for their latest 'Secret Feast' is well underway, so much so that my eyes sting under the weight of cooking onions. I soon realise that this is a small price to pay. It is quite simply a delight to talk through their vision for My Secret Feasts and indulge in discussions about favourite dishes and forthcoming menu selections that are rarely seen at any 'usual' foodie event. I am also witness to their almost 'ritualistic' feast preparations that have almost a rhythm to them, and start as they collect all of their carefully chosen produce and then ceremoniously unwrap, chop and cook, each with clearly defined roles that compliment each other much like their ingredients. Belinda explains "Every stage in our planning for our feast is important but no more so that the time we spend together in the kitchen before each one, and even our choice of lunch on that day is a source of inspiration as we start to bring our ideas to life." www.facebook.com/mysecretfeasts

It is no wonder that these two have been drawn together in this venture both have a great love of food and with career backgrounds in food and theatre,(Belinda previously owned Chester based Italian Deli Olio and Forina and Rebecca was Director of LLangollen Fringe), you can clearly see how this has influenced their ideas. Belinda explains, "I previously owned Olio and Forina, an Italian Deli based in Chester, and Rebecca worked there with me. We have been friends for a long time and food has always been a passion for both of us, more than a shared interest, and it had, in one way or another, shaped much of our lives and the lives of our families. Unfortunately Olio and Forina closed and I missed running the business and

starts with the small, yet significant, details - details that help to build that important crescendo for each feast, bringing people together to enjoy the moment."

definately mourned being part of something special like that."

There is an element of 'The Good Life' about their feasts with vegetables homegrown on Belinda's allotment and other unusual ingredients foraged from the hedgerows. This authenticity brings a heritage to their food that clearly sets them apart, with everything from stock to liquor made from scratch, and adds a new depth to the words 'lovingly prepared'.

The idea for their venture was born out of a chance trip by Belinda and her husband to the Wilderness Festival in Oxfordshire in 2011. After falling in love with the ethos of the festival and the emphasis of dining amongst strangers (who quickly become friends), on large family sized tables, sharing great food, the seed of an idea for My Secret Feasts was born, and when Rebecca joined them at Wilderness the following year it only confirmed what they originally thought - that perhaps they could bring this culinary ethos to life closer to home. Rebecca continues, "Every individual feast is a wonderful opportunity to create something new and vibrant, and every detail is lovingly considered and crafted as for us the enjoyment

As Belinda pauses to stir her latest creation of pistachio soup it dawns on me that this culinary duo are categorically 'not' caterers or any 'ordinary' event organisers. I begin to see them as makers of magic, creators of memories, who have given their events a stage whilst maintaining the status of their feasts as irreducibly private. This is not something that is achieved easily, or by chance "Our own preferred style of eating is definitely more 'con amici' than stilted fine dining. Not to say that we don't enjoy the culinary delights this has to oer but food seems to taste better when shared with great people, much like family gatherings, in great venues - when enjoyed like this the food and the company take centre stage bringing the best out in each other." On a personal note this appeals - clandestine summer gatherings in hidden gardens and private collectives held in previously unseen backrooms of a local bespoke tailor only add to the intrigue and sense of occasion. I am also heartened by the provenance of their food. Quality, locally sourced, often unusual, and chosen because the supplier has a passion that compliments theirs.

They both confess that much of what inspires them has this sense of detail at the heart of everything, " For the past three years we have made a sort of 'pilgrimage' to the Wilderness Festival and each year neither the food or atmosphere disappoint. We go as a collective of families with mixed age ranges and tastes, (both music and food!) and just immerse ourselves in some of the best, and most unusual, culinary experiences. Some of which are all about the food but others fuel our imagination because of their sense of fun or sartorial elegance." My Secret Feasts is an intriguing and ingenious concept. Perhaps it is the old adage of being more curious about that which is secret and mysterious, but having spent time with Belinda and Rebecca, I am more convinced that it is their vibrancy and passion that draws people into their secret trysts. They want a business as closely ďŹ tted to their own silhouette as possible, and they have more than succeeded.

The Guide #WhenInNYC So its the city that never sleeps, a constant buzz and an energy to rival any other city. We spent three nights soaking up life in this vibrant city, and found that if you look hard enough there are even places for tranquil contemplation. #WhereToSleep The Soho Grand Located in stylish SoHo New York, the Soho Grand Hotel is one of the most sought-after boutique hotels New York City has to oer. Just steps away from the iconic downtown NYC neighbourhoods of TriBeCa, The West Village and Meat-Packing District, the location is perfect for a weekend break. We loved their hip guest rooms. All 363 rooms are designed to combine the eclectic cool of swanky industrial downtown New York with the luxurious tranquillity of a city hideaway. The neutral palette combined with the leading technology provide the perfect getaway from the busy city streets below. Top tip: Book ahead and make sure you book your table in The Grand Bar. The cool crowd it attracts, the DJ, the roaring fire and the cocktails make this the place to be and be seen. www.sohogrand.com

#WhereToBrunch Norma's Norma’s, is the casual breakfast, brunch and lunch spot at Le Parker Meridien hotel. Known best as the home of the $1000 omelette (eggs, lobster and approximately $995 worth of caviar!). We don't know who Norma is, but she certainly knows how to draw the crowds. Perhaps its the cool venue with its high ceilings, wood panelling and silver edged tables but judging by the menu we think its part to do with the contemporary marketing names given to the dishes - after all a list of dishes under the header 'Mom Can't Make This' is some brag. Yes the waffles are piled high, the crepes are to die for but gimmicks aside go for the breakfast and you'll understand why Norma's is justifiably famous.

#WhereToFindNYCool A1 Record Store This is vinyl heaven. A record store literally filled wall to wall and floor to ceiling with vinyl. If you love music you could easily lose a few hours in here! Clicky Media and their ‘stealth like’ approach to growth

In recent years we have a seen many digital agencies come and go, apart from one local Chester based company that seems to be not only growing but thriving. We had to ask them what their secret was and how they plan to stay ahead of the game in such a fast paced digital arena..

I

t's one of my favourite jobs, interviewing business owners, as they are challenging, usually articulate, often inspiring, and occasionally arrogant. In the words of Forrest Gump they are 'like a box of chocolates - you never can tell what you're going to get!' That said, I was looking forward to my next interview with Chester and London based Clicky Media, as I had watched them closely, and worked alongside them, during their development and was intrigued to find out how they had changed - had they managed to retain the their common sense approach to digital or had they, like many others before them, started to believe their own hype and lost the essence of what they set out to be? It had been a number of years since I had last spent time with Clicky Media, and a lot has happened during that time - a move to bigger premises, an office opening in London, a string of new clients, a significant increase in staff, an armful of business awards and a decidedly different feel to the business and their 'Clicky' brand. I don't mention this to Oli as we sit in their new boardroom in Chester. It would be too patronising maybe to say that they have 'grown up', but in essence that is how it feels, and there is a maturity to the way that they have approached this growth that gives clear indications that this is one digital business that is here to stay.

Words by Debbie Edwards www.clicky.co.uk

'Our marketplace has developed massively over the years and it has also matured, so it is no longer acceptable to just 'keep up. We have to continually innovate as ultimately our clients are looking to us to shape their next move.'

Clicky, as they are fondly referred to, have always intrigued me, and even more so now. In the highly competitive world of digital, web, SEO and PPC agencies they seem to have achieved their success by stealth. I mention this understated approach to Oli and he confirms that this is entirely engineered 'it has always been important to me that we stay under the radar because in doing so we focus our attention on creating an edge from within and are not distracted by notoriety which can, in this industry, be very fleeting.' An interesting approach for a business that started in 2007 at the beginning of the recession and who has thrived since. Where others have courted the press with high profile client wins, whom they may have lost just as quickly, and spent countless hours on award submissions, for Clicky, success seems to have found them, and I have to say it is more than a little bit refreshing. Oli continues 'I was always hesitant to put us, me, out there as I wasn't quite ready to be judged or pitched against the competition. I suppose I wasn't quite ready to hear people's opinions on what, or who, they think we are and in many ways I still feel the same. I simply wanted to do great things, slowly, but take on some really interesting projects that allowed us to extend our skills base and expertise.' Clicky, established by Oliver Yeates in 2007, recruited its first employee Sam Gadsby (who is now MD of the company) and were based in a small back office in Murlain House, Chester. With a couple more office moves, a step up in staff numbers and a recent award for Oli at the High Sheriff's Awards for the Outstanding Cheshire and Warrington Business Leader, it has been the past three years that has seen significant growth for Clicky and they now total 21 employees across their ever increasing teams.

retain many of the large clients that they started with. Oli explains, 'Our marketplace has developed massively over the years and it has also matured, so it is no longer acceptable to just 'keep up. We have to continually innovate as ultimately our clients are looking to us to shape their next move.' He continues, 'Clients are also more aware and more demanding which continually pushes our creativity and expertise to the next level. Every time we take on a project that challenges us to deliver something special it always attracts others, often from very different industries.' This pushing against the boundaries has enticed an eclectic mix of clients from NHS England and Channel 4 Learning to high end luxury travel and fashion and it is this that I imagine is the secret behind their success as they continually display a different edge for each of them. On the day of our interview there is a buzz around the office as the labours of the previous days photoshoot are on display and it makes for interesting viewing. A high fashion shoot for a new, innovative, haircare product is being discussed and it certainly seems to have been one of those projects that has pushed them out of their comfort zone from what I can see it is this that seems to set them apart. Never 'settling' seems to be serving them very well.

'it has always been important to me that we stay under the radar because in doing so we focus our attention on creating an edge from within and are not distracted by notoriety which can, in this industry, be very fleeting.'

There is also a very 'telling' trait in their history as they have managed, in this highly competitive industry, to
