ARUDOS TREK CLIENT HOUSE, RETREAT HOME, 2015
BRIEF The project was a “client house which is a retreat home for the client and his small family. A client is selected from a draw in a list of many celebrities. The client for my design is the famous retired basketball player Michael Jordan. An artwork and a touchstone was made to describe the personality of the client. The site was selected by the student where the advantages from the site can be used in the design. Later in the studio the concepts from the touchstones are developed into design.
4
The design demonstrates journey of a determined personality. Even though the roadblocks come through the way, the journey goes on ahead. The obstacles are meant to be negative, Michael Jordan
CONCEPT DEVELOPMENT
don’t take it negatively but rather takes it positively and redirects or turns into a useful way. His weakness is his strength. The concept of a determined person; continuous straight line takes another alternative path for the roadblock but his goal is not altered. The roadblock from the concept is developed into a positive useful space or for a link design to environmental factors of the site.

ARTIST’S RESIDENCE VISITING ARTISTS CENTRE, 2015
BRIEF The project was a “visiting artist’s residence” which is a temporary shelter for artists habiting and doing work at national art gallery. The main exercise is split into small exercises. First an artist pod is designed for a generic context fulfil ing the student’s needs. Then different arrangements of spatial planning is experimented through models and the pods are arranged in it.
8
ARTISTS POD The concept of avoiding excessive exposure of direct sunlight is developed to a very open and comfortable space for the user to do a creative work. The large shell allows the design to user the green capabilities to a very large extent. Green plants and solar power is used to make the design more sustainable. The space is user friendly for a person who need to stay connected to the context and also this keeps the person from rain water while raining, with its hooked transparent canvas from two sides. The secondary requirement of the design is to provide the user the maximum views without altering the degree of exposure needed.
9
THE RESIDENCE The extended visiting artists’ residence provides the artists a comfortable to work. The context; sultan park is a shortcut which a high density of people circulate. The design wil not obstruct the main shortcut paths people take, rather allows people to go through it and experience the artistic nature. The design has three distinct levels with a preferable privacy for each level. In order to preserve the heritage values of the context, design is developed with an old tree inside its periphery. The most exposed south and east sides of the design wil be of stairs with an appropriate rise and run, enabling the vertical circulation and a place for artists to sit and do sketchy works.

LIFE SPACE SOCIAL HOUSING PROJECT, MODULAR UNITS
BRIEF
The project was a “modular social housing unit” in newly developing island hulhumale’. This design is to be developed with a modular system. This housing must be cost efficient and must cater the basic living conditions of the people of hulhumale’. Hulhumale’ is located in Kaafu Atoll of Maldives. It was an artificial island brought about to tackle the problem of overcrowding in the capital of Maldives, Male’. In the year 2004 the city had official y inaugurated with just 1000 people. Since then the population has increased to 30 000.
12
DEVELOPMENT Everyone would agree to that this is not how we Maldivians use to be. We do remember the times where there were no rigid boundary between my home and the adjacent stil things were going smooth. That was much better. Due to the multicultural and territorial transformation our homes have become a “military base where the walls go up high to 6 meters. There are the things we missed from out past that is the reason why we are in this situation today. We lived with a very satisfied life with semi-open spaces. The small things we do involves our neighbors and the community was very strong. The house don’t have very large private spaces but the necessity spaces arranged in a unique layout in a large compound where the life runs smoothly. The compound connects the spaces within the house and also connects the house to the surrounding environment. The idea of this compound is used in my design in a vertical alignment. This indeed is drawing a line between what we have today and what we missed from our past.
13
SOLUTION The “compoundâ€? is used as a living space in my design which is similar to an atrium. This compound is the major space which runs vertically from the ground to 12 meters high. To provide plenty of light through the living well, the main façade which is also a side of the well is a curtain wall. And this living well connects all the levels through 3 continuous stairs which has a landing at the half. This compound removes the solid separation between the upper spaces and the lower spaces. To regenerate the connection we lost with our neighbors, the periphery of the green backyard is a short fence where four plots wil face to the same point when mirrored.

NIYAAMA MUSEUM
BRIEF
The project was a “museum” which was placed in a masterplan we proposed for a Site of R.Alifushi. The masterplan was themed “kabeela” which describes the bond or the force which strengthens up a boat in early boat building. This kabeela is demonstrated by a Boat Building Museum which connects all the facilities in the masterplan design. A Choice was given for the students for the building for detail design and I chose the centric museum which plays a huge role in masterplan.
16
A segment from the buildings are cut off and the upper level surface is spread above it. This gives a feeling of distance and vastness.
A ramp is introduced inside the museum exhibitons.
The walls facing the centre are fixed windows to create visiblity and restriction.
Chacteristics of island is studied.
DEVELOPMENT
The voids formed in the concept is covered to make people walk above and or go around to give the feeling of going over and around the reefs.
The vertical slit windows are added to give a feeling of curiosity.
The stairs from the concept is developed to ramps to further enhance the audience of users approaching the upper level .
The interior walls are insipired from the rigid urban planning pattern of maldives.

DHEBA DISASTER RELIEF HOUSING

DEVELOPMENT Not the values of the old housing nor the identity of the kolhufushi people shall be left to fade into history. The language and the character of their story must analyzed and integrated into future designs. At the same time, the new relief shelter which saved the people from the chaos they lived cannot be left unappreciated. Hence, the design is about a resultant force between the characteristics which wil be of best interest of the kolhufushi people in terms of old housing and the relief shelter. The strong boundary which restricts neighborhood interaction and the single access is cut down via a pedestrian street which enables two faces of plot to a road. This also aligns the front of the house to each other creating a point of interest at the street. Separation between adjacent plots are very transparent with the introduction of low, tree wall together with the public-private spatial configuration without compromising the privacy of spaces. Detached layout of the old housing is merged with the fully attached relief house layout to generate a layout which is detached but attached.

EXPLODED AXONOMETRY Lysaught roofing sheets are readily availble and low cost, and pitter patter sound of rain is generated hence strenghtens the concept. Timber rafters of 75mm X 100mm and purlins of 50mmx 35mm is arranged in equi-grid to support the roofing. The weaved thatch long ceiling panels is inbetween rafters. This shows the crafstmanship of kolhufushi people and acts as a insulation from heat
The exterior open space is allocated to provide a space for exterior activities such as thatch weaving.
Coral stone walls are used in the exterior walls for cheap construction and its one of the most primary material used in the walls of old housing of Kolhufushi.
Slurry finish (treated with chemical) is used on the floors, which maldivians used to call “ola. Conrete well to store rainwater colel cted from the roof.
