The clients utilise existing materials in their home, focusing on the use of reclaimed pieces in crafting their home interiors. The kitchen dining space consists of the natural tones of plywood and ash, combined with dark bolds and soft blacks to create a complimentary feel.

CLIENT BRIEF Design Objective -Living room The clients wish to change the look of their living room on the 1st floor. The scheme will be based around a brown leather chair that the clients already own, as well as two vases, which will drive creative direction.

To refocus the kitchen as the heart of their home, the clients wish to purchase a new dining table and chairs. While enjoying modern design direction, it is necessary to consider the existing furniture in the home, and tailor choices accordingly.

-Kitchen The current style of the kitchen will remain similar, with the addition of a BoConcept dining table to accentuate the current aesthetic of the clients’ home. -Studio The studio space will be converted into a functional and comfortable office, fit for both clients’ requirement to work from home.

The studio space is located on the ground floor, the entrance being the main one into their home. The staircase leads up to the main living area.

FLOOR PLAN / CIRCLUATION

The studio will be separate to the main living space, but has a kitchen at the rear end of the room, allowing the owners to cater for clients within one space.

Due to the new climate of working from home being the norm, the creation of an office space that is functional, comfortable and enjoyable to conduct daily tasks within is of paramount importance to the design process. Visualising the studio space, I thought the desk would be best placed at direct opposite to the door, central of the rear wall - as to allow instant engagement with clients entering the space, as well as providing a full view of the room itself. Considering the client’s role as an interior designer, I sectioned the space to include a more informal seating area, creating a relaxed dynamic wherein the client may sit for a longer period of time presenting and discussing ideas - balancing the room and maximising space for various purposes.

MOODBOARD Inspiration for the mood and colour scheme of the studio space is a blend between Scandinavian and Metropolitan interior design - reflecting and accentuating the pre-existing reclaimed industrial elements present within the clients’ home - carried into the office space. Soft, warm neutrals and accents of walnut create a relaxed working environment, while the incorporation of ash, soft blacks and muted greens suggest a sense of boldness and subtle sophistication. The rigid edges of the Los Angeles and Cupertino tables both stage the space, grounding each section. Meanwhile the soft organic curves of the Modena and Charlotte chairs provide contrast to help soften the space.

The lounge is situated on the first floor of the house, directly opposite the staircase. This is the only way of accessing the kitchen and dining space, so the passage through to the kitchen should be clear.

FLOOR PLAN / CIRCLUATION

The addition of a corner unit will be compact in terms of space usage, but should also seat the whole family comfortably.

One of the main challenges in designing the lounge area was to maximise the use of space as much as possible within a room that is comparatively smaller than those in the rest of the home. The Copenhagen wall system is beneficial in creating both ample storage space and showcasing the clients’ personal pieces from their time travelling, expressing individuality and making it feel like home. As the family are extremely creative, enjoying watching movies and spending time together, creating a comforting, welcoming space with individual touches is essential.

MOODBOARD The design direction for the lounge area was inspired by the existing leather chair and vase collection, outlined as important to the clients within the brief. The use of earthy tones - such as smooth browns and walnut accents - combined with greyish undertones and bolder indigo hues creates a complimentary palette, resulting in a warm, welcoming and relaxing family environment for spending time together.

Carlton - Drawing inspiration from 60s and 70s furniture design, the delicate Carlton sofa will give your living room that subtle retro touch that’s sure to turn some heads. With plenty of room for the entire family this corner sofa will be the hero of your living room.

FLOOR PLAN / CIRCLUATION Moving into the Kitchen and Dining space, I wanted to incorporate rich leather - inspired by the chair outlined in the brief - as well as reflecting the ashy tones present within the lounge area through the choice of dining table, to create a smooth transition within the home. As the kitchen stands, it is made up of reclaimed ashy plywood tones and bold blacks. There is ample amounts of natural lighting, so dark, bold colours will work to ground the space.

MOODBOARD

As the kitchen has an industrial feel, the mood board is largely inspired by raw materials and textures. The soft, buttery leathers and matte black ash tones compliment the kitchen’s existing palette of raw plywood and warm, earthy tones. The Agusta table, with matte black legs and an ash-grey ceramic top is a great match in terms of colour, aligning well with the existing elements in the kitchen - but also grounding the dining space and allowing it to take centre stage within the room. The smooth leather and matte black legs of the Newport chairs compliments the space, adding a touch of warmth while creating a fluent transition into the lounge area. 20
