1 // HASTINGS DISTRICT COUNCIL // MOST BEAUTIFUL SUBURB - HAVELOCK NORTH
Dynamic play spaces, friendly work places, a vibrant atmosphere and, most importantly, passionate people, are integral to our successful and much-loved suburb Havelock North. The people of Havelock North have a long history of being very committed to their community, dating back to its founding in 1860. Growing from a town for small farmers and local businesses, it is now home to more than 13,000 people. The Havelock North community is always keen to be closely involved in planning and implementing positive projects that enhance their facilities and landscapes for future generations. Their passion was never more obvious than when they came together to raise the funds that allowed the beautiful historic Cricket Pavilion to be moved into a central position in the newly developed Village Green and undergo a refurbishment befitting her importance.
It was a move that has seen the building become the crown jewel in Havelock North’s exceptional public space. From playgrounds, riverside plantings and walking and cycling tracks, to sports facilities, town centre art and maintaining historic buildings, Council and the community work hand-in-hand to keep Havelock North beautiful. We are very proud of the achievements already completed and excited about more to come. We are very pleased to forward this submission which shows off our stunning suburb, to the Keep New Zealand Beautiful ‘Most Beautiful Suburb’ award.
Sandra Hazlehurst Acting Mayor, Hastings District Council

This vibrant urban park is unique, telling the story of the Village through design, and history and information boards that are personal to the Village and the community. 3 // HASTINGS DISTRICT COUNCIL // MOST BEAUTIFUL SUBURB - HAVELOCK NORTH
