A Retrospective
The Compassion Fashion Project hosts Divas Dressing Darlings An Event to Benefit Disadvantaged Children in Africa The Compassion Fashion Project teamed up with Little Rock Fashion Week to host a benefit to collect pillowcases for the international non-profit, Little Dresses for Africa. The pillowcases were collected at this event and distributed to our team of participating Fashion Designers who then sewed them into adorable dresses for little girls in Africa. A follow-up photo shoot was held to display some of the final pillowcase dress designs. Dresses were shipped to Little Dresses for Africa in order for them to reach the children who needed them most. On June 16, 2011 from 6-8 p.m. at RK Collections, The Compassion Fashion Project and Little Rock Fashion Week invited the public to bring in new or gently used pillowcases to the event, Divas Dressing Darlings. Sponsors for this event included Bobby Haws Photography, RK Collections, THINK Magazine, Colonial Wine & Spirits, Jessica Carder Band, and Sign Expo. The festivities includes wine, cupcakes, music, speakers, shopping and an unlimited supply of fun. The event benefits children living in Africa by distributing dresses to orphaned girls in remote villages. Founder of Little Dresses for Africa, Rachel O’Neil, is quoted as saying, “Because of the widespread of the AIDS pandemic, little girls are often left to be the primary caregivers of their young siblings. Along with being something they need, distributing dresses gives us the opportunity to hold camps and informal teaching sessions to increase their knowledge in nutrition, sanitation, and promote good health and family skills.”
