TOP TIPS FOR
SURVIVING
A Life-Changer Year A life-changing year is actually a far wider transition than 365 days would suggest at first glance. First, you have to deal with the initial event that triggers a series of smaller obstacles to which you are forced to respond. All that, while you process and react to emotions that occur through the process. Although it feels rather nasty to contend with, I like to think of these moments as “opportunistic ripples” because although it really is like dropping a stone into the water, with an initial surface event (damaging and powerful in and of itself) followed by waves and ripples from impact, if we can play it right, we end up in a much 8

better place. Places that we could not have gone had we not been forced to kick harder in rough waters. So, I wanted to craft some survival tips using basic, positive psychology and a bit of my own life experience, so you make the best of it – no matter the position you may find yourself for 2015. Here are my tips for surviving a life changing year:
1 You are in charge of your life. Perhaps you’ve been handed a
shit taco. No really, stay with me. Are you really going to scrape off the shit and play pretend that the rest is lovely? Are you afraid that you will never get another taco, shit topping or not? Listen, it’s a shit taco! You have to believe in yourself and your abilities in this moment. You deserve, and can easily obtain, a better set of circumstances. See it for what it is and let it go. I don’t care how juicy the tomato looks – your life is knocking it out of your hands so that something new can come forward. Much of what materialises after the jolt, will be directly dependent on your outlook and reaction.
2 Set aside 5-10 minutes a day to think, pray or reflect. Or hell,
simply breathe! I used to hate stupid yogis who told me to meditate every day, but even if this whole “om shanti”, divine crap is not for you, if you take stock every day before the drama kicks off, you have completed one very powerful thing that is just for you, in that day. You can also appreciate the challenges you may face in the upcoming day and proactively choose how you want to respond. Fuck the boss. Fuck the deadlines. Fuck the bad mojo someone wants to hand you on the bus. Fuck your ex and their drama. Fuck it because you owned the day, thanks very much indeed, before any of these bitches even brushed their teeth. As you grow with this practice, you will find that where I said “Fuck” that actually, these events simply wash over you as things that occurred rather than unsettling events to which you reactively or emotionally Letter From the Editor, Michelle Fitz •
9
respond. This takes practice. Fret not if you are saying “fuck” for some time.
3 When the tears come, or perhaps simply feelings of overwhelm
(which are normal as we grow and adapt to change), it is time to stop and simply breathe. I know – this is another stupid yogi comment, but fear is the basis of the emotion you are experiencing. Breath is the body’s measure of how you are reacting to events. If you notice the fluid way we breathe when we are calm and happy, it is entirely different to the very laboured, shallow manner we adopt when enduring upset, grief and stress. Stop. Take some deep breaths, or do something physical that forces you to breathe. No, it doesn’t take the situation away but what it can do is help you release and deflect some of the anxiety which comes about through natural body and hormonal responses when we are going through stressful life events. You can control and prevent unnecessary stress events, cortisol reactions and anxiety if you notice and resolve your breathing.
4 When life is offering you a person or experience that makes
you happy, excited or fulfilled, accept that with open arms. I am not saying that you should do anything naïve, but I am saying that sometimes these little moments of sacred happiness are actually little karmic packets of sugar that you have earned after all the hard graft. Enjoy them. As you mature in your 5-10 minutes of reflection, you can check in and explore whether these experiences and people are still in your highest good. The good news is, if you are radiating joyfully and enjoying these yummy little nuggets as they come along, even if it’s not right for the long haul, the elevation in your confidence, mental attitude and expectations will naturally attract and align the next opportunities that present the path which is right for you. Oh, and just so I don’t end up with a random 11th tip, when someone is wonderful, tell them.
10 • Hat Trick Magazine • hattrickstrategies.com
When you have much to be grateful for, say it out loud. Take time to be grateful for all the sparkle as it comes, and savour every moment.
5 When I have been forced to ride out some crazy stuff that
life has thrown at me, I have noticed that I naturally gravitate to unhealthy extremes. For me, this is a spending, sugar/carb tendency. However, in others, it can present in an obsession with perfection, even sometimes in things that seem healthy on the surface (like devotion to exercise or an obsession with nutritional choices). When you are going through change, and certainly when you are coming out the other side of it, it is important to go easy on yourself. Focus on nutrition, hydration, and listen to your body (including your emotional state) as you go along. Pushing through an emotional urge in a healthy way is positive but just be sure that you are not overdoing it in a way that can cause damage and injury.
6 Unless it is a person or writer you respect deeply and find an
accord with, ditch the gurus. Especially those who present their lives and circumstances as perfect or claim to be able to resolve all of your life’s unique issues. Look, as tough as this is to say, every view is valid but no one’s is as valid as that of your own. Take stock of the views being given by the people around you, including those closest to you, but never lose sight of the fact that the main person who really cares about the way your life turns out ... is actually you. You can be trusted. I promise.
7 A hugely powerful tip when you want to start attracting a better
taco topping (sorry the opening line created a visual that stayed with me), is to identify a handful of things about yourself that you think are positive, cool or, even better, flaunt-worthy. Incorporate those ideas about yourself into your daily reflection exercise and try Letter From the Editor, Michelle Fitz •
11
and see yourself in your mind’s eye exhibiting these gifts. Maybe you get compliments on the way you dress and really enjoy vintage fashion. Why not visualise yourself taking steps to meet others who are also fans, and attending interesting events? If you can re-discover the things that make up your personality and connect them with the human condition, it increases your confidence. You’ll see that through these things or interests, you are never alone. If you are feeling low, this can be difficult so seek help from someone who knows you and ask them to share positive observations about you. For example, after many years of a controlling marriage, I became a drone who just went to work and went through the motions of chores and must-dos of family life. I forgot that I am a really funny, sunny, music-lover and a great friend. In fact, my friends would tell me how grateful they were for my humour and that I am probably one of the most amazing friends anyone could have. Yet, there was a time when I felt so unworthy that I was grateful for them, but could not see that anyone would be grateful for me . And why not? When I accepted the great stuff, I flourished. I challenged myself to link these qualities to hobbies and in my case this means that I love attending comedy shows, music and working with creatives. When I then challenged myself to actively pursue these things, I also started attracting like-minded people who brought deeper insight into my ideas and my interests, as well as broadening my life with opportunities to do more of these things. Friends, let me tell you, joy is out there for you and it is where you want and deserve to be.
8 When you are breaking down your resolutions for the New Year,
or maybe simply trying to achieve a new goal, be sure you break them down properly into projects or they simply won’t happen. For example, I’ve realised that if I want to lose weight, there is the nutrition project, the emotional needs project and the exercise project. I ask you – how many projects or perhaps even milestones within that very big project do you really have to tackle to execute that strategy properly?
12 • Hat Trick Magazine • hattrickstrategies.com
9 We all have responsibilities, whether this is work, our families or
our children. However, going through the motions of looking after others without proactively taking time for moments of personal joy will make these important things become cumbersome. Never lose focus on the ones that need you or your goals but do remember that the basics of personal care like rest, human touch, affection, friendship, joy, etc are needs. They are steam that keeps us driving forward when everything else is an ask. Take time for yourself. Cut yourself some slack. You are worthy of happiness. You deserve and should expect the basics like: please, thank you, clothing that fits, love, respect, smiles, decent food and water, play time, time to decide, education, joy, opportunities, choice, human connection, sexual satisfaction, eye contact, stability, healthcare, and enough sleep. You need not convince anyone. Expect these things.
10 These are times that call for frugal
thinking and behaviour. This may be a lean year or simply a year you choose to turn your focus to savings. This doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice for junk. Just like giving a gift, something small of quality is worth far more than a lot of something crap. Equally, aim for foods, goods, items and people that offer substance and nourishment to your body and soul.

Cover Story
Candace Waters HOW AUTISM INSPIRES By Michelle Fitz 14 • Hat Trick Magazine • hattrickstrategies.com
WHEN
Robert and Sandy Waters learned they were having a little girl, they were ecstatic at the thought of the little dresses and big life that awaited them. Little did they know, just three years later, every aspect of that dream held in their minds eye would shatter as they received the news that their child was on the autistic spectrum. It would be some time before they understood the degree for which Candace (affectionately known as Candy) would present on this spectrum, and with a new son to care for, their commitment to their children was more reinforced than ever to ensure their children got off to the best start possible, regardless of ability level.
16 • Hat Trick Magazine • hattrickstrategies.com
CANDY
started out with the same development pattern as other children. She was pointing, talking and took an interest in her surroundings. Then suddenly, that changed and she slowly withdrew from the world. This was at the age of just three and although there was very little template for the Waters family to follow in caring their daughter, they sought answers through trial and error, and advice from other parents in a vast online network. Like others, they were grateful when American celebrity Jenny McCarthy shared her story and experiences of her son’s autism. Unlike many, the Waters family pulled together instead of apart, focusing on the game plan forward and giving emotional reprieve and support to one another. Though initially interested in speculation of what may have instigated her retreat into silence, Robert and Sandy made doing their best by Candy day-by-day as they turned to the future as their immediate focus.
“Eventually though, you see that you are the advocate for your child and you can either take on the victim role and be passive or you can treat them just as you would any other child and fight.” “When you get married, you expect the white picket fence and all the normal ups and downs. We had no idea that autism would be a part of that life plan. I am not going to paint a false picture here. Parents need to know that it is normal to hear this news and receive it as a blow. It was for us and we really struggled in the early part of Candy’s journey. As a mother, you ask yourself Candace Waters: How Autism Inspires

whether it was something you did or did not do, or maybe didn’t do enough of and as parents you ask yourself why it was you or your child. Eventually though, you see that you are the advocate for your child and you can either take on the victim role and be passive or you can treat them just as you would any other child and fight. The fight is endless – it is for their dignity, for what is correct in the eyes of law, it is at school and in the healthcare system and it is present as you help them find their ability. We already know the disability! Let’s figure out the ability,” said Candy’s mother, Sandy. We all have heard of the autistic child with special capabilities like mathematics, drawing entire city skylines from memory, and the repetition and playback of whole books scanned just once. What causes this savant-like ability to emerge from otherwise outwardly profound disability is unknown, but there are common symptomatic threads that hold true for most autistic people like sensitivity to noise and stimuli. Like other parents, the Waters family exposed Candy to as many different concepts and subjects that they had access to, and promoted learning through play. “In our view, this was what you would do with a child without autism to discover their strengths and interests and that is exactly what we intended for Candace,” said Robert. So, when Candy was six, she was invited to create a painting which would be sold at a benefit for a local autism school. At this stage, by all accounts, her motor skills were behind and the Waters family simply encouraged her for the sake of fun and experience – something they try to take in their stride, exposing both of their children to as many different opportunities and experiences as they can. Little did they know that 18 • Hat Trick Magazine • hattrickstrategies.com

Candy would not only improve her motor skills through painting but she would begin to thrive and blossom. That first painting sold for $100, a mind-blowing amount considering her perceived ability level at the time. Candy loved the experience so much she continued and is now making art that is featured in global publications, hanging in celebrity and private homes, alike, and even hanging in a place of honour in the Illinois governor’s office. You can even purchase prints and merchandise of her art online – that’s right, Candy is digital. While it is true that her family assists her in the maintenance of her online store and in naming each piece, Candy is in full artistic control of when, how and what she paints.

“...her behaviour and frustration levels have and continue to greatly improve since incorporating access to creating her art on a regular basis.” Candy does occasionally speak the odd word or two but is only able to communicate through body language and of course, her art. Her parents are keen observers of her needs and signals and were quick to tell me that Candy is not the only autistic artist to have made headlines. Stephen Wiltshire (29), was recently shown the New York skyline for just 20 minutes and immediately sketched it to scale. Also, 5 year-old Iris Grace recently made news with her art and heart warming story of her therapy cat Thula. What is remarkable about Iris’ work is that so many of her abstract pieces will, if the observer steps back, reveal something hidden such as the eyes and facial features of her or a cascade of clearly well-considered layering of colour and texture throughout the work.
MANY
of our readers will already be aware of Indigo or star children, which is a newage term for children like Candy who have been incarnated into the world not to learn lessons, resolve karma or grow spiritually, but to enlighten and enrich the world through inspiration and sharing their gifts. When I asked Mr and Mrs Waters about this concept they very much agreed and commented that Candy had touched lives from around the world, including cancer patients, people in depression or stuck in otherwise spiritually low Candace Waters: How Autism Inspires

points in their lives. While they are not strictly embracers of new-age thought, they genuinely believe and acknowledge that the gifts this child and those like her bring to the world are both powerful and life-changing.
AS
a writer, I am meant to keep myself out of the story but the truth is, when you speak to Robert and Sandy, you are forced to look at yourself and measure up. It stops you. You hear less of an account of losses or suffering and more of a desire to inspire and help others to press forward. You will not hear exhaustion or loss. You hear excitement in their voices. I could not write this feature without taking a pause to paint the picture of this couple clearly for you and to discount the emotional impact made on me as we spoke would be to deny a very human feeling I so genuinely want our readers to feel from this feature. Truthfully, in hearing their optimism, I was ashamed of myself. In hearing their gratitude, I was reinvigorated. In really hearing in their voices the love that they shared between them and the pride they had in their daughter and her work was overwhelmingly emotional and impressive. I realised that just like Candy, I was full of ability. And so are you.

New Year. New Business: Your First Online Course Made Easy Happy 2015, amazing entrepreneurs! What greatness will you create this year? Are you already worrying that you won’t meet your goals?
I’m here to help. As a builder of businesses for playful, spiritual entrepreneurs, one of the most frequently requested projects clients ask for is help in creating their first online course.
The appeal is great. Online courses offer the following benefits I Embody Your Sexy Geek •
31
Pick Your Topic You may have been dying to create an online course and know exactly what you want to share. If you’re stumped, here’s a brainstorming tip. What do you do that other people would love to know how to do also? Do you have a beautiful morning routine that jumpstarts your day? Believe me, many people would love to learn it. What really gets you fired up in a good way? It doesn’t necessarily have to be what your current business is about either. Your course can be simple or involved, depending on the topic you choose and whether your audience is the serious student type of the “give it to me quick” type. There’s room for both.
Simple and clear is always appealing. 32 • Hat Trick Magazine • hattrickstrategies.com
Turn Your “Live” Course into an Online Offering This is a challenge many clients face. How to turn your in-person course or workshop into something that can be offered online. You almost always can, as long as you stay open and flexible and realize you’ll likely need to switch things up a little to substitute for in-person interaction. Just look at all the physical trainers offering courses and videos to see how successful this can be. What’s great about a course, as opposed to a video alone, is that you can do more than just talk into a camera. You can share worksheets and get your audience involved in a hands-on way even though you’re not physically together. You can actually build real, thriving communities.
Community Building Courses often come with the ability to engage in a private community group. These groups have incredible clout and lead to amazing connection. Consider offering this with your course and

33
you’ll be amazed at the rewards. These communities change lives. Most groups connect using Facebook. This is my personal recommendation. This is, quite simply, what Facebook knows how to do. Other platforms I’ve experienced all have kinks.
Coaching Calls Courses often come with a weekly or one-time coaching call by the leader or team leaders. This feature is a great enticement so participants feel they’re getting the inside scoop from you, the expert. Turn yourself into a bit of a celebrity in your area of expertise if you aren’t already. As an entrepreneur, you’ve got to be willing to “show up.” It can definitely be challenging, part of the reward for choosing this life path. There are excellent free conference call offerings that allow you to offer international group calls with ease. The one I use is Free Conference Call HD.
Pricing Your Course How do you decide what to charge for your course? Value is not solely based on the amount of material you’ll be providing; it’s
As an entrepreneur, you’ve got to be willing to “show up.” It can definitely be challenging, part of the reward for choosing this life path. 34 • Hat Trick Magazine • hattrickstrategies.com
based on the value you’re delivering and the value you convey in your marketing. One way to decide what to charge is to simply ask your loyal clients what they’d pay for the type of course you’re creating. Check out similar topics and see what’s going on. Courses range from $47 to $2,997 broadly speaking. Offering payment options increases takers. Consider the cost to you in terms of time and expertise to offer the course, what you’d like to earn, how many people are likely to sign up and what it’ll cost you to put your course together and promote it.
Course-Building Software Options While in theory you could build your course without special software, there are tools that make the complexities and requirements align much more smoothly for you. Software for course creation allows you to drip content out to attendees and to keep future content private until you want it to be visible. You’ll need a tool that means your course is protected from online search so only paying or permitted customers have access. Contenders in software choices vary between those who emphasize the marketing aspect of building your course and those who emphasize the educational / instructional aspects. Both matter. Highly-regarded options include: Embody Your Sexy Geek •

Marketing Flow Focused Options Kajabi WebinarJam (requires Google Hangouts) WordPress Linked Options Optimize Press Wishlist Member CRM (Customer Relationship Management) Options (Can also be used with Wordpress) Ontraport Infusionsoft Education Focused Options Adobe Captivate Articulate I use Kajabi to build online courses at the moment. It’s relatively simple and just works.
Structure Your Course Here’s my inside scoop on a super simple and effective course structure. For Each Module (consider 4 or 6 Modules for a first course): 36 • Hat Trick Magazine • hattrickstrategies.com
One Short audio 5 to 15 minutes. You informally sharing your brilliance on the module’s topic.
One Handout: With key points discussing that week’s topic.
One or More Worksheets So students can be sure to take in the module’s learnings.
Take the time to design your materials so they look appealing specifically to the audience you’re addressing. Don’t forget humor. You can offer relevant bonus material such as other experts’ information on your topic and other recorded interviews you may have made on related topics but this isn’t necessary. Time and again, clients and friends tell me they appreciate simple, easy online courses the most, ones that stick to a single main idea and share it in a clean, clear manner. Don’t feel you have to offer volumes. As long as you know you’re offering thoughts, ideas or techniques of value, your audience wants what you have to share.
Attracting Attendees If you don’t let people know about your course, you won’t get the signups you’d like. Embody Your Sexy Geek •
37
People usually need to see a message repeatedly before they’ll buy. You’ve got to allow time for your idea to start to feel exciting and comfortable to potential buyers. Promoting your course is like any other marketing endeavor. I have a rule of thumb that successful promotions require three months: one month to create the promotional strategy, campaign and elements and two months to get the word out. If you’re forced to cut this short, know that you’ll likely see a difference in your response rate. People usually need to see a message repeatedly before they’ll buy. You’ve got to allow time for your idea to start to feel exciting and comfortable to potential buyers.
Joint Venture Cross-Promotions It’s so great to participate in JV promotions once you have your idea and plan together. The power of bringing in others to help you get the word out can’t be under-estimated. You’ll be amazed how easy it is. All you have to do is think of fellow entrepreneurs you know who’d be interested in your topic and whose audience might be also. Offer to do a joint webinar discussing your course and your word will start to spread. 38 • Hat Trick Magazine • hattrickstrategies.com
Incentives Consider offering incentives to drive participation. Marketing around a holiday, themed with your course, could be perfectly timed. Special discounts for groups you know would be right for your program can drive interest. Get creative and it really starts to get fun as you build momentum.
Make This Your Mantra I’m repeating one of my favorite statements, which fits here:

As these goals are set, it’s important to also incorporate the right attitude needed to successfully achieve them. The following are 5 mindset shifts you need to start making now, to help you achieve the results you want in your life and business.
Attention You’ve heard it before. What you focus on expands. This is true both in life and business. You get more of what you pay most attention to. Sometimes as business owners, when we’re not making the amount of money we wish to make, we often get trapped into a negative mindset and focus on all the ways our business is not working. When you have a negative approach to your business, it takes up too much space and creative energy that can be used elsewhere to enhance and grow your business. You need to focus on all the reasons why you can achieve your business goals. This does not mean ignoring areas that need improvements, but rather looking at them as opportunities. This also includes focusing on all the great feedback and people that you are helping in your business versus the one compliant, which tends to be the one that affect us, the most.
Believe I’ve heard it said that business ownership is the best form of personal development, and it is so true. It requires you to have faith and believe in your abilities and capabilities, while stepping outside your comfort zone. You may be doubtful of your ability to reach the level of success you desire. I once read that two ingredients needed for success are ‘belief plus time’. The higher the belief the less time needed to succeed. However, the lower your belief the more time it will take to achieve it. You need to re-condition your subconscious mind to believe and buy into what you consciously want for your business. The two has to match. Your mind acts like a powerful computer and it is up to you to program empowering beliefs that will lead to your success.
Value your Worth Do you value what you do? That may seem like a silly question, but this is something a lot of business owners need to ask themselves. You may be in a position where you feel bad charging for what you do, or even underprice your products and services. Or, it could be the case that you feel you need yet another program or certification in order to feel confident to work with others.
“Your mind acts like a powerful computer and it is up to you to program empowering beliefs that will lead to your success.” Understand the impact you have on others. Look at all the people that have benefitted from your product and/or serves. Look at the transformations that have occurred in their life as a result. This will show you just how much value you bring. Knowing this will help you feel worthy of asking for money and charging accordingly.
Make an Offer This goes hand in hand with valuing your worth. How many times have you been in a networking event, or come across a post on a Facebook group and someone asks a question or posts something that you know your product or service may serve. However, instead of telling them just how much you are able to help, you remain silent. It’s time to stop being afraid to make an offer and sell your products and services. So many people feel ‘icky’ and ‘salesy’ when they talk about their offerings. If you feel you have a great product or service (and you should if you’re in business), then you’re doing your potential customers a disservice by not offering them your products and services. Stop feeling bad about asking for money in exchange for the work that you do. You do a great job, so stop hiding your talents and let people know about you!
Ditch the Inner Critic Yes, we all have it. That fearful voice of the ego that always shows up whenever you step up and play big. It’s that voice that hates change, and wants you to remain exactly where you’re at and not grow. It’s that voice that warns you that people will reject you and say no, and you will be left humiliated in front of your friends and family. Recognize that voice? Yes, I know. We all do!
“By choosing to get connected to my true Source, and remembering that only good lies before me, I am then better able to quiet that voice; even if just slightly.” Something to do when the voice gets really loud is to get really connected! By choosing to get connected to my true Source, and remembering that only good lies before me, I am then better able to quiet that voice; even if just slightly. Focusing on my breath and 44 • Hat Trick Magazine • hattrickstrategies.com
meditating silently helps me get connected. I affirm what I want and desire for my business. I also remember that I am powerful, extraordinary and with the ability to create my life and business as I choose. I also question what that voice saying. Is it true that I will fail and be humiliated? Are my children suffering at the expense of my business? You will find that the more you question, the more you will see that they are simply false. They were simply illusions that were aimed to keep you small. It then gives you the freedom to choose a new perspective and dialogue to focus on…
ONE THAT BEST SERVES YOU AND YOUR BUSINESS GOALS.

The 4 Gems of
Walking Your Walk

In the first article of this series, we discussed how it looks – and feels - when we’re acting at odds with our inner truth Ie Not Walking Your Walk! In this second article, we identify the four main factors, that we’ve discovered, which could be keeping you from standing in your power and expressing yourself YOUR way! Plus, we offer some gems of universal truth to help you on your way. Read on!
1. Fearing The Worst I used to feel worried that if I really spoke my truth, pursued what I wanted, and let myself be real – people wouldn’t like me, I would upset or offend them, and I wouldn’t be able to get what I truly wanted in life. Holding back and keeping yourself hidden like this denies you the chance to show the world your full range of capabilities and talents. People never get to know, and benefit from knowing, the real you not fully. When you prevent people from seeing the real ‘you’, it’s true you might avoid total rejection (one of our biggest fears) – but you also limit yourself from self-expression, ultimately creating separation, within you and around you. Living life this way might feel safe for a while, but in fact it’s more likely to keep you isolated and unfulfilled.

to connect with our fellow human beings. We come equipped with everything we are ever going to need, and we aren’t meant to be the same as everyone else. To prevent ourselves from fully embracing our uniqueness and bringing forth our gifts, freely and openly, is to deny Truth itself.
COACHING QUESTION What is it that you truly yearn to express?
2. Painful And Limiting Beliefs You Hold About You One of the most debilitating concepts we hold of ourselves, is that if the world really knew the truth about us, they would be completely justified in turning their back on us. No matter where these beliefs stem from, the real point is that as an adult, you have become the unrelenting judge, jury and executioner for all your past mistakes and hurts. The burden can become so great that it’s impossible to look at the world square on, with a solid and self-honouring stance. Outwardly, you build brick walls around you for protection, and inwardly you become a diminished, smaller version of who you really are. 50 • Hat Trick Magazine • hattrickstrategies.com
And, if you do this long enough, eventually you hide from yourself until you no longer know who or what you really are. Personal growth then ceases and death as an authentic person begins.

The human story is about learning how to navigate life. The journey never ends, and our imperfections, failures and flaws are exactly what make us human. They are a pre-condition for growth and a vital resource for our success. When we can release ourselves from lingering feelings of guilt, hurt and shame, then we can open up to a more empowering sense of humility and compassion – we can forgive ourselves and allow our light to shine through, brightly and powerfully.
COACHING QUESTION What or who needs your forgiveness?
3. Bending To The Expectations Of Others As a first-born I used to played out the role of prime problem solver. It’s not a role I consciously chose for myself, but it seemed to be the hat that I was expected to wear. Over the years I found I could do it pretty well, so it stuck. The 4 Gems of Walking Your Walk •

The impact was that I believed I needed to be perfect, have all the answers, and be pretty near infallible in order to be accepted, and feel worthy. Being vulnerable, or free to make mistakes didn’t feel right, or safe. And it was an exhausting and stressful way to live. When you live by others expectations (real or imagined), or accept society’s so-called wisdom without question, it’s like you are acting out a character in a play - conceived by someone else. The danger is, it comes at the cost of ignoring your own judgement and neglecting your needs. Your own identity gets side-lined. And you can end up not knowing exactly who you really are.
Truth Gem
In order to Walk Your Walk, you need balance, self-nurturing and self-respect. Energy ‘out’ needs to be balanced and sustained by energy ‘in’. And that means honouring and attending to your own values and needs first. Only then, can you truly serve.
COACHING QUESTION What do you need to feel nourished, balanced and sustained within yourself?
4. Sleep Walking Through Life 52 • Hat Trick Magazine • hattrickstrategies.com
There are times when life feels so complex and difficult, that it’s tempting to switch into auto-pilot. Many people do. Permanently. But let’s be clear, ignorance doesn’t necessarily lead to bliss. Businesses go under, societies collapse, species become extinct and international atrocities result from a failure by humanity to face its truth and take a courageous stand for Life. It doesn’t only happen on a world scale: relationships struggle; careers suffer and lives stay half-lived for all of the same reasons.
Truth Gem
When you consciously choose to Walk Your Walk, you decide to be the leader in your own life, acting on purpose and being mindful of the ripples you send to the rest of humanity and the universe. It doesn’t matter if your focus is a major international cause, or a seemingly small, day-to-day issue: if Walking Your Walk feels like far too much hard work, then I invite you to look again. For being yourself is the most natural act in the world. And when you gather up your energies and align yourself with your heart’s knowing, all of the other ‘stuff’ just fades into insignificance.
COACHING QUESTION What life-affirming steps can you take to today to Walk Your Walk?

UKIP VS Progressive Thought FIND ME ONLINE HERE
By Sukh Pabial
I don’t even know where to begin with the nonsense that is Nigel Farage, his style of debate, and UKIP as a party. I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again, UKIP are not a progressive thinking party. They are about exclusion, discrimination and promoting offensive thinking as normal. On so many levels, Farage is taking the concept of political debate and popular thought to such a low base of thinking and debate that it’s just ridiculous.
NHS He says that immigrants are causing strain on the NHS. The NHS isn’t under strain because of the type of people using it. It’s under strain because they’ve had to undergo some of the most severe budget cuts they’ve ever had to endure, in some cases with complete primary care services being stopped in order to just exist.
The other end of this is he’s advocating a private healthcare system akin to that of the USA. Sure, because private healthcare is working so well in the USA, right? Aside from that, he and other self-interested MPs and Ministers such as Jeremy Hunt and George Osborne are keen to sell the NHS in order to privatise healthcare and make money for themselves. That’s not about UKIP vs Progressive Thought •
55
provision of service in any shape institutions across the world – so or form. That’s about nothing who decides how bad the NHS is? more than greed. The NHS isn’t without its problems. Selling it off, blaming the immigrants, and denying national problems like obesity are not the solutions. At the same time, the NHS has been voted the best in healthcare across the world and they share their knowledge with many medical
If Farage and his followers don’t want to live in a UK which has the best healthcare system in the world, he should move to a country where it meets his needs. I suspect he won’t do that, mostly because he can’t make money by another country selling off their healthcare system.
UK HOUSING Farage claims that immigrants are causing a strain on the UK housing situation. Sure, let’s take a London Borough like Tower
Causal racism is still racism. Honestly, I don’t know anyone these days who wants to be casually racist, mostly because they don’t want to be racist. 56 • Hat Trick Magazine • hattrickstrategies.com
Hamlets and claim that all the problems of housing people are like what is experienced there. The problem with UK housing is due to the fact that there hasn’t been enough development in the UK for at least 40 years. We need to be building in the region of hundreds of thousands, and we’re developing more in the line of tens of thousands. That’s what’s causing the strain on UK housing.
CASUAL RACISM This one really pisses me off. Farage claims to say what the common man thinks – and supports his people who say racist and offensive things. Of course he’s very astute about how to support them. He’ll say things like: “They’re only saying what other people think,” or “They’re not right for public office, but they’re entitled to their opinion,” or “It’s not offensive to use terms like
that if they’re meant in jest.” I don’t even know where to begin with this thinking. Causal racism is still racism. Honestly, I don’t know anyone these days who wants to be casually racist, mostly because they don’t want to be racist. Not because they’re being politically correct, but because they actually don’t want to offend anyone. I don’t even know how this is an acceptable argument.
IMMIGRANTS ARE TAKING OVER THE UK I’m just getting more and more annoyed as I write. Right, so the whole world is experiencing globalisation and the effects it has on UKIP vs Progressive Thought •

economies, businesses and, you know, life, and what does Farage want to do? He wants to place strict conditions on people entering the UK to work to promote skills development in the UK. Except, immigraton, people settling and contributing to society have been in existence forever (ok, not forever, but certainly in the modern world of the last 150 years). It’s not a recent thing. It’s actually been accepted for a seriously long time. The obvious swipe to be made here is that Farage’s wife is German, and it’s just an epic contradiction that he doesn’t want the thousands of people to come and live and work in the UK, but it’s ok for his foreign wife to do exactly that. I mean, seriously?
Oh no, wait, it’s because there’s no one else in the UK who can perform the duties his wife does? Which are, largely, administrative in nature. And I almost forgot that he wants immigrants coming into the UK to have a health screening to ensure they don’t spread diseases into the UK population. Just think about that for a moment. Forget the morality of it, just consider the practical application and enforcement of this type of initiative. It would mean an agency of some sort with a highly skilled workforce – because not any Joe could perform a proper health check – monitoring our borders of all sorts giving a health check to people before they enter. Or it would mean doing this at the 58 • Hat Trick Magazine • hattrickstrategies.com
country of exit – still something we would have to fund. Where’s the money going to come from to do this? Immigrants form a core part of the UK and its make up. Immigrants are why we have a fully functioning NHS. They include everyone from Sikhs, to Jews, to Muslims, to Nigerians, to Italians, to Poles, to Chinese, to Russian and pretty much every other corner of the world you can think of. In the main, all of those groups of people are fully functioning members of society.
IMMIGRANTS FORM A CORE PART OF THE UK AND ITS MAKE UP. IMMIGRANTS ARE WHY WE HAVE A FULLY FUNCTIONING NHS.

Farage, instead chooses to focus on those coming from Eastern European countries because they haven’t got over being Communists and are still stuck
being criminals. Ugh. This guy takes stereotypes and has a lot of fun with them. He’s offensive, but he’s having fun. Which is still offensive.
DISCRIMINATION AS BUSINESS PRACTISE Farage seems to think that UK business has its hands tied by EU regulations. In practise, UK business doesn’t, but you know, let’s not follow the facts, let’s follow random opinion instead. He wants businesses to be able to discriminate at will against its workforce. Remember that globalisation piece I mentioned above? With education becoming more available to people across the world, this means the potential workforce available to business
is wide. We’re in an age where meritocracy can truly become the way the best people get the best jobs. Instead, Farage seems to think limiting the openness of our borders, and stepping away from the EU will mean the UK will become more prosperous. A fair and open society is what we’ve become. Farage seems to think stepping away from this will be better for the UK. No, he’s just trying to justify his anti-EU stance by using UK business as a crutch.
FALSE POPULAR OPINION This one makes me laugh the best. In all their years so far, UKIP haven’t been able to get someone successfully elected as an 60 • Hat Trick Magazine • hattrickstrategies.com
MP. The only way this happened, the only way, is because of two defectors to the party from the Conservatives. These two defections caused an automatic re-election in their consitituencies, and lo and behold the two people who were the incumbents held on to their seats. Tehcnically, UKIP have two MPs. In reality, the two people re-elected just held on to their seats. That they were UKIP didn’t have any part to play (in my opinion). So now, Farage and his peeps think they are gaining popularity with the majority. It’s hard to argue that they’re not influencing public debate. What’s worrying is that some people aren’t even trying to think better about what they’re hearing. Instead they’re swallowing up what he has to say – for no better reason than he has a pint and smokes.
SMOKING IN PUBLIC SPACES This one’s a doosy. For no other reason than Farage is a smoker does he want to undo the ban on smoking in public spaces. What a ridiculous line of argument to take. Forget public health, Farage wants the right to smoke while he’s having his pint dammit.
GUNS IN THE UK When a person uses a gun on another human, it will either seriously harm them, or kill them. You know why the UK has such low rates in relation to gun crime? Because guns are not readily available to anyone. That’s easily a win. Farage wants guns to be legalised in the UK. Ever since the awful tragedy in Dunblane, guns have been banned in the UK. Regularly, UKIP vs Progressive Thought •
61
REGULARLY, in the USA we hear of stories of people who killed others because of their own personal firearms or of children who have accidentally killed themselves because they were playing with their parent’s gun. This argument is made easy in the UK. It’s the right thing for people not to own firearms. It means those in society who can’t control their emotions when they’re angry won’t make a rash decision and use a gun to either seriously harm or kill another human being. People are not responsible owners of guns. They just aren’t.
PROBLEMS WITH THE EU I’m not politically savvy enough to argue this one articulately enough. People like Alex Andreou or blogger Flipchart Rick are far better at that than I. But this much I do know. Farage’s allegiances in the EU are with those on the far-right of politics, who advocate outright racism and exclusion of individuals. For all the talk of the EU restricting the rights of UK business, one of the big importances is that human rights are respected across the piece. That trumps pretty much everything, and UKIP are trying to advocate practises which take away people’s dignity, their human rights and fair and decent work practises.
PROBLEMS WITH WOMEN Farage and his lot simply don’t see women as equals – it’s chauvanism at its worst. When they advocate not employing 62 • Hat Trick Magazine • hattrickstrategies.com
When they advocate not employing women of child bearing age, it doesn’t matter what else they might say they believe – they’re just bigoted and misogynistic.
women of child bearing age, it doesn’t matter what else they might say they believe – they’re just bigoted and misogynistic. It also doesn’t matter if there are women who are members of the party – that’s not the same as believing women are equal.
HOMOPHOBIA Ha ha, this one made me laugh – lots! Apparently gay people are the reason we had severe floods in the UK. And that old people are against gay marriage, therefore it should be banned. Or that it’s against God’s laws. Sure, because UKIP people are
advocates of all things ‘normal’ in society. Say the guys who think it’s okay to casually be racist and offensive to people with disabilities by claiming that they are a burden on society. Or say that it’s okay to call Chinese people ‘Chinky’ because it’s UKIP vs Progressive Thought •
63
what the common man says – except no common (wo)man has ever said that in a non-offensive way. The recent law allowing gay people to marry is a landmark moment in progressive practise
of inclusion and diversity. I’ve read arguments that apparently the next natural step is to legalise paedophilia. I have no time for poor arguments like that.
GLOBAL WARMING UKIP are hell bent on denying that global warming exists. They claim that not every scientist shares the opinion that carbon dioxide emissions are at their highest levels because of man made problems. 97% of noted and credible scientists share this opinion. UKIP choose to listen to the 3%. Why? Because they want to make more money from the ventures that involve burning fossil fuels and not finding alternative fuels. Seriously, this is like denying that mental health is a real medical problem. Because clearly people suffering mental health isn’t debilitating and affects life adversely.
BANTER No-one is against banter. Every person who has common sense understands the difference between banter and offence. When you cause offence because of your words, that’s being offensive. It’s not anything else. Farage claims he can’t make jokes anymore. He can’t make jokes anymore because when he does, they’re offensive. You know what other public figure is really good at making jokes that aren’t offensive? Barack Obama. 64 • Hat Trick Magazine • hattrickstrategies.com
END
UKIP are not a progressive party. They are trying to make it normal for people to be casually racist, discriminate against people because they should be allowed to, and offend people for no better reason than being entitled to an opinion. Being entitled to an opinion, expressing it, and causing offence are all different things. If I have an opinion, express it, and it causes offence, I have a duty to respect the other individual and either change my opinion, or accept they are different. Farage doesn’t think that’s acceptable. The point of a successful political party is to progress the country they are in. For the various ills of Labour, Conservatives and Liberal Democrats in the last 20 years, we have been highly fortunate to be in a country where opportunity is available to succeed. Some in society choose to by cynical about change and are positively resistant to progressive practise.
Once upon a time, people believed that the world was flat. That ‘fact’ got disputed by better thinkers of the day, and ultimately evidence. There are still (deluded) people today who believe this, but they’re in a serious minority. Progressive thought wins every time. It takes time, but it does win. UKIP vs Progressive Thought •

One Little Word
FOR 2015 For the last two years I have prayed about a word to cling to for the upcoming year. As I prayed for the word of 2015 God had given me several. It is tough for me to discern if there is just one word that sticks out more than others. One word I can hold tightly to. One word that might hold me. One little word that is just a little whisper from Him to me… FIND ME ONLINE HERE
By Katie Clifton, Christian Columnist 68 • Hat Trick Magazine • hattrickstrategies.com
As I prayed, God answered: I did a word study on “hold”. I want “hold” to penetrate my heart and I want to allow the lens of my living to be focused on holding. I want the Lord to hold me and I want to hold more tightly to Him. I don’t want to miss anything He may be saying or teaching me in this next season. I do not want to “lean on my own understanding”, but rather, I yearn to “trust in the Lord with all [my] heart” (Proverbs 3:5-6) as He gives me another year to hold on to Him.
I want to hold on with all that I have. I want to live with a holding that lets letting go look like death. I want to cling to Him with a grasp so tight my knuckles turn white from clinching. I want to find rest in Him as He holds me. I must admit, 2014 has been a weird year for me. Jared and I revisited memories and experiences over the last 12 months and agreed that it was just a tough one. We had no major life changes. No crisis. No death. No births. No moves. Nothing truly notable that would have triggered the extreme bouts of frustration, heartache, exhaustion, and overall weariness we both experienced. That is not easy for me to share. I have wrestled with God a lot this year. I have been confused by His plans. I have been angry with His plans at times. In fact, I am still wading through some of those emotions. But my Savior knows my heart. He knows I want to be obedient. He knows I trust Him and that I know He is good and His ways are higher than my own. He knows the depth of my frustration and He has heard every prayer and seen every tear fallen out of anxiety and my own One Little Word for 2015 •

desire for control. He has been my comfort when life has felt like the mighty walls of Jericho and He has been my defender that tore the same walls down. I have searched Him out more passionately this last year, and have been met with lots of confusion and uncertainty. I have been in a very strange place. But, I have trusted Him and followed Him. I believe He carries us out of these strange places. He always has. But you know, God is the abiding, never changing One. God is supreme in His goodness, everlasting in His faithfulness, abundantly righteous in His mercies, and He was before all things. Strange seasons of our lives do not catch Him off guard. He ordains them. He allows them. Because “in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose.” (Romans 8:28) So, maybe God giving me the word “hold” is coming into focus now.
“Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for He who promised is faithful.” (Hebrews 10:23) The original word in Greek is “κατέχωμεν”. This word in Greek is a beautiful compound word that paints a picture of having and holding from 2 different places: as in a higher and lower plane. The picture I see is a wedding. The vows clutch tightly to one another. They embrace from above and below. But this time I am picturing a promise 70 • Hat Trick Magazine • hattrickstrategies.com

between an infinite Lord and a finite me. The picture is beautiful. Hold may be my word for 2015, but the promise is the same to you. He will hold you. He holds all of this chaotic world together. He holds time. In Him, truth and righteousness, love and justice, healing and hope, mercy and grace, judgment and salvation are all found, and we have been invited and welcomed to hold on to Him!
Do you have a word for 2015? Friends, I am praying for you now. For the year that you are saying good bye to and for the unknowns that are being ushered in. I would love to know if you have one little word you will hold to this year…
I have no idea how the Lord plans to use HOLD in my life for this next season. But I am thankful that I can trust Him. I am thankful that He holds me even when my affections are selfish and flesh filled. I am humbled that He holds me when I feel broken; that He cradles and comforts me when I am weary.
I am praying you seek Him and find Him in 2015

I remember a conversation I had years ago with my friend in which I said, “I don’t need to be a millionaire. I just want to go to bed without thinking about money. I want to eat out twice in one week and NOT feel guilty about it. I want to buy a new freaking lipstick without feeling selfish!” The bills were being paid (usually on time) but it just never seemed like there was enough. As a certified Law of Attraction Coach I get a lot of emails from people centered around the universal language of “not enough.” And I have found that there are a few main reasons that people fail to enjoy the kind of wealth they are meant to enjoy. That’s right. You were BORN to be wealthy. And there is an endless supply of money out there that belongs to you. How long are you going to leave it sitting there unclaimed?
Tell the truth. If I saw your under garments right now would you be embarrassed? I promise I have a point. Ever Get Tired of Thinking About Money •

The other day, I was cleaning out my closet and when I
got to my…um…delicates. I was faced with the startling realization that there was a pair of fancy underwear in there that I had bought specifically for my senior prom…in 1994!
I went to the store immediately and bought a whole bunch of pretty unmentionables, but it got me thinking - business is great! Why then, had I not purchased anything nice for myself in 20 years! (To be clear I had purchased underwear in the last 20 years, just not super sexy rock star ones!) I started to look around at some of the other areas of my life that were stuck in “scarcity”, “what if” and “not enough”. Makeup from the dollar bin. Cheap shampoo.
My soul and my work had emerged beautifully into abundance, but there were clearly still parts of my mind that were holding fast to a very narrow definition of “possible.” There must have still been some corner of my soul that didn’t feel worthy of all the awesomeness! Buh-bye old belief system! I just finished reading Denise Duffield Thomas’s Get Rich Lucky Bitch (such a fun and quick read!) and she suggests upgrading in baby steps. A better bra here, a fancy coffee there. And you know what? She’s spot on.
So here’s what I want you to do for yourself in the new year. Flip the switch to ON. When you start to upgrade step by step, you send a message to the universe that you are READY to receive! I get it. Looking in the mirror and affirming “I’m a millionaire” just makes your inner witch say “yeah RIGHT!” It’s what my friend Noah St. John calls the “belief gap.” And it can crush your manifesting mojo! 76 • Hat Trick Magazine • hattrickstrategies.com

And it doesn’t even have to be about buying anything. Light candles for your bath. Put on music while you cook. Do things that make you feel good. Feeling good isn’t a luxury, it’s a privilege of being alive. Make more moments in life a “hell yes!” So check out this list. Get really honest about where your money gap is. You lack the foundation. Your wealth house is built out of cotton, not bricks. If you are an entrepreneur you need a business that is aligned with your soul and primed for profits. If you’re not making money you’ve got a spiritual gap or a strategy gap. You either aren’t connected to your vision, you’re not effectively communicating that vision to your audience or you’re not connecting it to their greatest need. The great news is that it’s all fixable! Those are just a few of the things that keep people from claiming their wealth. Remember, broke is a temporary circumstance. Wealth is a state of mind.

A Better Way To look At New Years
Resolutions
FIND ME ONLINE HERE
By Rachael Pontillo 84 • Hat Trick Magazine • hattrickstrategies.com
Well, it’s the end of the year and as always, my Facebook and Twitter feeds are filled with “best of the year” lists, and how to actually keep New Year’s resolutions, and so on.
I DON’T TYPICALLY MAKE NEW YEAR’S RESOLUTIONS. It’s not because I don’t believe in setting goals or
bettering myself–it’s that I focus on them on a regular basis. It’s kind of similar to how my husband and I look at gifts–if we need or really want something we buy it when we need or want it, rather than wait until there’s a holiday or special occasion when it’s “OK” to ask for it or receive it. That’s not to say I don’t believe in gift giving–I do–but I think gifts should be given and received whenever the inspiration strikes rather than putting it off for a planned giftgiving extravaganza. For self improvement, and other reasons I typically set goals, I think that saving it up for a New Year’s resolution is a form of procrastination. Procrastination typically means one of two things.
1
You don’t truly desire it, or it’s not truly aligned with your core values. A Better Way to Look at New Year’s Resolutions •
85
You’re experiencing resistance because accomplishing your goal will bring you to a new or different place in your life that might be unfamiliar or scary– and often with that, a new level of spiritual evolution (which the ego doesn’t want, so it builds up the resistance to keep things “safe” and easy)
2
As I wrote in my recent article about willpower, change won’t happen unless it’s what you truly desire. If you want something badly enough, you’ll do whatever it takes to make it happen. That being said though, saving up a big goal for one time a year isn’t the best way to make something positive happen in your life–even if it is something you truly want.
“...change won’t happen unless it’s what you truly desire. If you want something badly enough, you’ll do whatever it takes to make it happen.”
86 • Hat Trick Magazine • hattrickstrategies.com
Knowing what your goal is–but more importantly WHY
you want it and HOW you want to feel once you accomplish it is more than half the battle–and sometimes it takes a great deal of effort to become clear on figuring out the WHAT, WHY, and HOW you want to feel (not the HOW you will get there–that can lead to procrastination!). I know for me, it takes meditation, journaling, prayer–and sometimes time to help me gain this clarity. Sometimes I think I want something because it’s what I’m supposed to want since it’s what my peers are working towards–but after I let it sit a bit, I realize it’s not really aligned with who I am or how I want my life to be. Or maybe it’s something I want eventually, but there’s something more I want now.
At any rate, once you figure out what it is that you want,
why you want it, and how you want to feel once you get it–don’t wait to start working towards it! I constantly hear about people waiting for a new cycle before they start working towards a goal–a new week, month, quarter, moon cycle, year, stage of life, etc–because the time won’t be “right” until then. And I get it– as someone who studies the cycles of nature and the moon, there are definitely certain times that are supposed to be more favorable than others for starting new projects and ending others.
This knowledge is extremely helpful and should be used
when making plans within a cycle and for the next year–but the problems arise when it’s used as an excuse or form of resistance. For example, “I can’t write that book until the lighter half of the year because we’re not meant to be outwardly creative during the dark cold months.” That’s an excuse I, myself, used for both my books, Love Your Skin, Love Yourself and The Sauce Code. But I still knew I wanted to write those books and have them published
A Better Way to Look at New Year’s Resolutions •
87
within a set timeframe and that if I waited until the lighter, warmer days to return, it wouldn’t get done. So, while my own creative brain doesn’t write books when it’s dark and cold, the rest of my brain can do the other tasks involved in writing and getting a book published. There was research to do, data to compile. interviews to conduct, systems to learn, strategizing with my publisher that had to take place–so many different tasks involved with the book that had very little to do with the actual creation of the content itself.
I HAVE NO PROBLEM WITH NEW YEAR’S RESOLUTIONS, GOALS, OR INTENTIONS. In fact, I’ve decided that for myself, my main goal in my own personal development is to become more organized and allow less clutter in my environment–both mentally and physically. This isn’t a New Year’s resolution, per se, but it’s an intention that I have for myself right now. In the past, I would have put it off until a set date-like January 2–or January 15–or February 1, etc and gone on with my normal habits until that start date. Not anymore–because whenever there’s an end to a cycle whether it’s a cycle of nature, the moon, or designation of linear time, the end signifies the end of the old habits–and old habits that are brought into a new cycle will continue to manifest throughout that cycle and will be harder to break. 88 • Hat Trick Magazine • hattrickstrategies.com
This year, I’ve decided to leave my clutter and disorganization in 2014 by already making changes before 2015 begins. I’ve been working on cleaning and organizing different areas of my home and office each day, and I’ve also begun work on a new project in a more organized fashion than I normally would. I’ve set small, attainable goals, and have given them deadlines and have an accountability partner. I’ve made my intentions public and have asked for support from my family (the kids aren’t thrilled, but oh well! Better for them to learn organization and decluttering now than later!). I’ve started reading up on feng shui and have already taken action to improve the energetic flow in my space. By the time the clock strikes midnight tonight, my space will look exactly how I want it to look everyday.
HOW CAN YOU MAKE THIS WORK FOR YOUR NEW YEAR’S RESOLUTIONS?
1
If you’re trying to eat healthier, go shopping for some fresh produce today so you can make a nice smoothie tomorrow morning. If you’re going to a party tonight, eat something really healthy before you go so you don’t arrive hungry, and enjoy the festivities with moderation. I see too many people overindulge right before they begin a health or weight-related resolution, and then when they wake up feeling like crap the next day, the last thing they want to do is drink a smoothie or eat a salad.
2
If you’re trying to exercise more, have your exercise space at home cleared out and ready to go with your favorite DVD. If you go to a gym or studio, have your A Better Way to Look at New Year’s Resolutions •

classes already in your schedule for the next month so you don’t have to think about it on Monday. Maybe buy yourself a cute new pair of sneakers or yoga pants.
3
If improving finances is your goal, then take time today looking at all of your invoices and pay whatever bills you can today. Schedule your due dates in your calendar for the next several months with reminders. Open an account on mint.com and setup your profile. All this can be done in about an hour–and then you’ll be able to ring in the new year already feeling more in control of your finances and more abundant.
4
If you want to improve your skin or transition to healthier skincare products, then go sign up for the VIP list on my website for Create Your Skincare - you’ll receive my free video series in just two weeks that will help you get started!
These are just some examples, but you get the idea. Don’t wait for the “right” time to make a new beginning or set a goal. There’s no time like now.

“THE LIVES WE LIVE TODAY ARE AN ACCUMULATION OF THE CHOICES WE MAKE DAY AFTER DAY. TAKING CHARGE OF ONE’S OWN LIFE INVOLVES SOME VERY SIMPLE AND YET PROFOUND DAILY DECISIONS.”
T
here is a rule of thumb for comedians: “Get off the stage while they are still laughing”. For politicians, maybe it should be “Get off the stage while you are still laughing”! After almost twelve years in local government, two terms on council and two terms as mayor, I chose to retire while I still loved what I did. My gut instinct led me into the role, and this Fall, it told me that it was time to move on. I have learned a thing or two over my tenure, not only about leading a community but more importantly, about leading my own life. How you really are in your private life is how you show up in your public life. The two are inseparably intertwined. If you truly want to be a leader, then you better lead your own life first. The lives we live today are an accumulation of the choices we make day after day. Taking charge of one’s own life involves some very simple and yet profound daily decisions. It is akin to brushing your teeth. No one brushes their teeth once a month thirty times and expects a clean bill of health. That is ridiculous. Daily albeit tedious habits creates a compound effect. It is that way with everything in life. The small, incremental decisions you make on Christina Benty •

a daily basis shape your future. We are, and forever will be, a product of our choices in life. That is why it is so critical to choose your habits wisely. Prior to my career in local politics, I worked as a fitness instructor, nutritional counsellor and a wellness consultant. In other words, I knew better than to ignore the importance of self-care. During my political career, I struggled to maintain a healthy diet, a consistent exercise routine and regular sleep patterns. Late night meetings and a busy travelling schedule made it tempting to talk myself out of exercise. Community events, conferences, and social gatherings seldom serve leafy greens, healthy fats, and lean protein. However there are only two uncomfortable realities: the pain of disciple or the pain of regret. I knew that it was easier to stay in shape than it is to get into shape. Getting fit is hard work but when it comes to exercise and healthy eating, I wanted to live excuse free. Physical exercise and nutrition cannot be neglected for any length of time. Food can be either medicine or poison, and

exercise is like fertilizer for the brain. In a world where sometimes your brain is the most important piece of equipment you have, size really does matter. Both exercise and nutrition help with focus and cognition. Current research demonstrates that intelligence is positively correlated with health. I confess, some days and weeks were more successful than others. However, in the long run, consistently moving in the same direction, even slowly, has allowed me to build a foundation of self-care that supports me to this very day. I love the saying “It takes nine months to have a baby, no matter how many people you put on the job”. Health and fitness is not a destination; it is a process. We all have the same twenty-four hours in a day. So in the words of Mary Oliver, “Tell me, what is it you plan to do with your one precious life?” Christina Benty •

my work as a holistic nutritionist and natural weight loss expert, I often coach people who have been struggling with their weight and general well-being for many years. One of the awesome “side effects” they experience when going on a healing journey with me, is a significantly improved skin texture: decreased wrinkles, no more acne, plumped-up contours and a glowing complexion.
Are you suffering from wrinkled, dry, red or itchy skin? Try this holistic stepby-step plan:
1
Relax. I mean it! I guess nobody doubts that stress or worries hugely affect our well-being and looks. The weird thing, however, is that being busy with work or life has become so normal that there’s no time anymore for anything but essential breaks where we simply relax and really focus on doing nothing. Two minutes of conscious breathing at an open window before getting dressed in the morning. A couple of mindful minutes on a park bench during our lunch break. There are many quick and simple ways to smooth the lines on our face and reduce the stress hormones that are ruining our complexion. If we’ve got time to constantly check our social media accounts, we’ve got time for the above, too!

Detox daily. One of the first things I teach my clients is that detoxing is not a trend or short program to follow every once in a while. It’s something that should, and easily can, become a daily routine:
A shot of birch sap or apple cider vinegar before breakfast, a bottle of lemon water during the day, a green smoothie to prevent the afternoon slump and a cup of milk thistle tea after dinner. By drinking the right kinds of liquids we keep our system — and our skin — clean and happy and effectively prevent wrinkles. Hydrate well. Consuming enough liquids is not only great to hydrate our skin and reduce acne, drinking plenty of water can even boost our metabolism by 30%!

Peels gave me pimples and anti-aging creams red spots. One day I got rid of all the store-bought stuff (yes, even most of my organic products) and started using vitamin cures instead. My skin started to blossom!

Try Schuessler Cell Salts. In the 19th century, the German homeopathic doctor Wilhelm Heinrich discovered that certain inorganic mineral salts could be used to treat various conditions. For dry, reddish and sensitive skin prone to inflammation, try: Ferrum phosphorucm (#3): It soothes the skin and has an inflammatory effect. Every day, dissolve six pills of each cell salt in a bottle with hot water (preferably use a glass bottle). Sip throughout the day and repeat daily for six weeks.
Of course, there are many things you can do to sooth your skin and give it back its glow. However, overwhelm kills motivation, and I see the best results in my clients when we take it...

became my mantra to The Universe and anyone that would listen, and the more I wallowed and focused on things being hard, the harder they got! And this went on for months. It seemed like the further down I got about my situation, the more there was to be down about, and without boring you with the details, things got really even harder! Luckily I dumped a lot of what I was feeling on to my sister (lucky for me that is, and not her at the time). Every time I spoke to her I ended up complaining about my situation and going into fear. She is one of the people in my life I can let my guard down with, but one day enough was enough. In the nicest possible way she kicked me into touch, with a side order of tough love.
Things suddenly clicked. I was stuck because I thought I was stuck, I was struggling because I thought I was struggling, I was financially challenged because I thought I was‌you get the picture.

My little sister that I had introduced to The Law of Attraction was telling me how to do it! I took a deep breath and suspended my ego, I knew she was right. Enough was enough and I had to get my act together. I started to work with an awesome business coach and I dragged myself back from the brink. I swallowed my fear and started to walk the talk, I revisited everything I knew about Law of Attraction and put it into practice, starting with the old poor me story I had playing on a constant loop in my head. Your beliefs create the vibration that you are sending out there into the world, so while my head was full of what I didn’t want…I was inadvertently drawing it in!
