The Designs & Images: a celebration of the creative process has more than a 47-year long tradition showcasing the visual arts in Poudre School District. Over the years, the exhibition and art programs have adapted and changed to reflect the current learning and standards. Students and teachers are still facing many challenges with limited studio resources, yet the visual arts at PSD are as vibrant and valid as ever. Art teachers are incorporating new material sources and tools, re-inventing, and transforming their teaching practices to meet the needs of their students during COVID. The Designs & Images Art Show will keep adapting so for 2021-22, we will still be virtual. Rather than solely focusing on the students’ finished art products, our goal is to capture what the learning and the making of art looks like remotely and in-person during this challenging year. This show highlights the resilience, craftsmanship, and depth of thinking from our art students, the innovation and tenacity of our teachers. These images and videos exemplify why we celebrate art and why art matters. Please join us in partnership with the CSU Clara Hatton Gallery and the creative work of Silvia Minguzzi for a virtual snapshot of art-making during the 2021-22 school year.

STUDIO HABITS

The f ramework shines a light on those broad thinking dispositions, or habits of mind, that visual arts teachers teach in their classes. These eight Studio Habits of Mind, which emerged f rom the original research study, include the following. Note that Studio Habits constantly interact with one another, and we make no claims that any are more important than another. Therefore, we list them alphabetically:

This painting portrays the subject with a sly expression, making the portrait feel dynamic. The very saturated colors aid her expression in portraying the liveliness of her personality. Artist Statement I created this image in my living room and the idea was to show me doing multiple things at once that were mostly school related to demonstrate how busy school can be. I used lighting by opening the window so my images on the couch appeared brighter and I had a light on from the left to make the image on the chair appear brighter as well. I captured textures on the couch and movement by showing the different activities I’m doing. I edited by grabbing a cut of myself from three separate images and pasting them all into one photo. I was successful with the reflection because I used multiple “reflections” of myself.
