introducing innsbruck

nnsbruck: Host City of the UCI Road World Championships 2018 welcomes the Haute Route Dolomites.

© P. BEHAR ET C. BOUTHE

And over the next few years more world championships are once more on the schedule, such as the Junior Climbing World Championships in 2017 and, a year later, the Climbing and Road World Championships. Speaking of road cycling: Innsbruck has already been the starting point or a stage in the Tour of Austria on 32 occasions, and in 1988 and 2009 the Giro d´Italia also stopped here. For the first time Innsbruck will be part of the Tour of the Alps in 2017, the successor to Giro del Trentino. And, with the UCI Road World Championships in 2018, Innsbruck will once again be creating cycling history.

Imperial Palace or modern architecture? International trade fair centre or alpine Wellness oasis? The experience of the mountains or the enjoyment of culture? Sports shoes or high heels? In Innsbruck and its Holiday Villages, the Austrian city and the mountains create a unique outlook on life. Between culture and nature – a harmony of opposites are equally fascinating to visitors from all over the world and the city’s 135,000 inhabitants themselves. Is there any other city where, within barely half an hour, you go from medieval Old Town, to vibrant modern city, to a mountain restaurant sun terrace 2,000 metres above sea level?

In the future Innsbruck will establish itself even more clearly as a biking city and, with a new infrastructure in the Innsbruck Bike Park and the hosting of Crankworx, the biggest Mountain Bike Gravity Festival in the world, the city will be attracting even more bikers.

Innsbruck‘s great sporting history is also more than a promise. The history of Innsbruck includes the Winter Olympics in 1964 and 1976, the UEFA Football European Championships in 2008, the annual hosting of international events such as the Four Hills ski jumping Tournament, and the Air & Style, the biggest Freestyle Snowboard Festival in Europe.

On your bikes, get set, go – this is the motto in Innsbruck!
