introduction dear rider Welcome to the inaugural edition of the Mavic Haute Route Rockies. We’ve been working hard behind the scenes to make sure everything is in place so you can live an experience of a lifetime in Colorado’s Rocky Mountains. Part of that process is the publication of this Roadbook. Its purpose is to provide a comprehensive guide outlining all the information you will need during the week, both on and off the bike. You will receive a hard copy of the Riders’ Roadbook at registration day in Boulder. Inside you will find details on the registration process, your accommodation, the host venues and technical stage information including details of the mechanical and medical assistance provided. We also outline how you and your supporters can follow the event live through our social media channels and the best way to access stage results. Between now and the event you can also reach the team directly through the live chat function on our website (www.hauteroute.org). Wishing you the very best of luck with your final preparations! first endurance, official mavic haute route rockies nutrition supplier

feed station etiquette With hundreds of riders making a pit stop in close proximity it’s vital you don’t block the road by pulling up directly to the feed station with your bike. Instead use the bike racks provided.

EFS Liquid Shot and drink will provide everything you need to maximize endurance and performance during exercise, with the latest amino acid technology, superior mineral bioavailability and the addition of malic acid.

To ensure all participants get access to adequate sports nutrition products we kindly ask riders not to take more than 1 bar per feed station. There are plenty of other options also available: oranges, bananas, dry fruits, crackers, cakes, cheese, ham, water, coca-cola. Please note that the EFS Liquid Shot offers a capacity of 130 ml that allows you to refuel 3 to 4 times with one bottle.

For riders receiving external support from family, coaches or tour operators, note that the feed station zones are the only points on the course where assistance is permitted.

You will receive 6 EFS Liquid Shot bottles on Registration day (1 per day, except on Time Trial Day). For an optimal impact, we advise you to start taking EFS Liquid Shot in the morning and then all throughout the stage. EFS Liquid Shot will also be available at the first feed station every day (expect on Time Trial Day).

All cyclists must use the portable toilets positioned at each feed station. Urinating in public is illegal in all 50 states. A person in breach of this law could technically be charged with disorderly conduct, indecent exposure or public lewdness.

Top Things to Do Off The Bike

ongratulations to all Haute Route riders and your family and friends whose support has helped you to arrive fit, fired up and ready to rock. You got this!

Pearl Street - The brick-paved Pearl Street is Boulder’s heart and soul — a central gathering place where locals and visitors alike come to stroll and shop among the historic storefronts, dine at buzzed-about restaurants, sip coffee, throw back a microbrew or watch the street performers. If you do only one thing in Boulder, walking this pedestrian mall should probably be it.

Boulder has a storied bicycling past and we are very proud to be the host city of Stage One. Whether this is your first visit to Boulder or the most recent, you’ll find that it’s a city designed for bicyclists. In this college town of 103,000 there are 300+ miles dedicated to bikeways (bike lanes, routes, designated shoulders, and paths) and 90% of Boulder’s arterial streets have bike lanes or trails on them. And then, there are the mountains and the endless road climbs. You’re about to experience all of this for yourself. Enjoy!

The Flatirons - Boulder’s beloved Flatirons — those slanting, massive slabs of sandstone that form Boulder’s backdrop from just about any angle — tend to have a slightly mystical effect on visitors. Gaze up at them from the hiking area’s beautiful meadow, where dozens of

22

trails lead off into the foothills, then hike right up into the Flatirons if you are seeking a bit more exercise and adventure.

Come sample, shop, meet local farmers, smell the flowers, hear live music, sit by the creek and eat great food in a festival atmosphere. Rated the No. 1 farmers’ market in the country by readers of USA Today.

Boulder Creek Path - Miles of paved path meander right through the heart of Boulder and are easily accessible to all. Join locals who bike, jog, skate and walk Boulder Creek Path alongside the babbling creek beneath shady old-growth trees for some fresh air and beautiful Boulder views.

introducing snowmass village

Snowmass’ cruisers, glades, steeps, terrain parks and halfpipes beg the question, “Can it possibly get any better?” The answer is yes when you consider that the adventure doesn’t stop at last chair. Nordic trails abound, the Snowmass Ice Age Discovery Center (open June 1 - Oct 1 and throughout the ski & snowboard season) features a variety of programming and exhibits, and ice climbing is sure to give your adrenaline a boost.

inding something to do in Snowmass Village is never hard, although choosing between so many great options can be. Each season has its own special flavor and mountain town lure. You’ll have to come back year after year if you want to explore it all— that’s a given. Start with summer, when the long, sunshinefilled mountain days provide the perfect setting for packing in multiple activities. Ride the rapids of the Roaring Fork River or enjoy the legendary fishing from its banks. Heed the call of the nearby Maroon Bells, head out for a hike or ride over 80 miles of scenic single track. A day that starts with a hot air balloon ride can just as easily end at the weekly Wednesday night rodeo.

Spring arrives with the promise of long days on the river as snowmelt hits the Roaring Fork, Arkansas, and Colorado rivers. Mountain meadows burst into bloom, and Snowmass’ legendary concert series kicks off. You’ll hear a lot of hooping, hollering, laughing, and choice exclamations in Snowmass Village throughout the year, but we guarantee that “I’m bored” isn’t likely to be one of them.

And then of course there’s winter. Ranked #1 overall resort by Transworld Snowboarding Magazine, the sheer volume of Snowmass’ 3,332 acres demands repeat visits to explore the iconic terrain in its entirety. Whether you’re new to the sport or have been sliding down the slopes since you took your first steps,

the most intimidating section of the trail is located directly underneath the Red Lady Lift and the watchful eyes of the people swaying overhead.

estled in the heart of Colorado’s Rocky Mountains, Crested Butte is committed to preserving the pristine landscape and mountain lifestyle. With vibrant Victorian store fronts and expressive local characters, the small historic town remains true to its heritage and radiates an unparalleled welcoming and inviting spirit that celebrates a simpler life and time. Thanks to a widely diverse landscape, outdoor enthusiasts of all levels will find a new challenge with each visit. From world-class mountain biking, to legendary skiing and snowboarding, to a secluded fly-fishing experience, Crested Butte is one of Colorado’s best-kept secrets.

There are also lift-accessed, cross country trails that link up with nearby world class trails, an astounding 750 miles of them, to be exact. Connect to the Snodgrass Trail via Lower Meander or take the aptly named Happy Hour trail, which connects you with the town of Crested Butte via the Upper Loop trail. Crested Butte is a town where the outdoors is a mandatory way of life and where passion for the mountains radiates from everyone around. As the Wildflower Capital of Colorado and boasting some of the country’s most iconic hiking and mountain biking trails, CB should be on everyone’s list of places to visit this summer and beyond.

Everyone from beginners to adrenaline junkies can test their moxie at the Evolution Bike Park, which features 30 miles of lift-served singletrack. The park has 32 biking trails, a mixture of downhill and cross country trails that range from the manicured, flowy beginner Hotdogger, to the machine-built flow trail, Teaser, to the insanely steep and super-technical Captain Jack. When we say there’s something for everyone, we mean it. Even the most skilled riders will be impressed with the diversity of expert-level trails. Are you on the hunt for an unparalleled adrenaline rush? Attack the nearly vertical boulder lines on Psycho Rocks. If you perform better under pressure, you’ll be happy to know
