Dear Rider Dear Rider Welcome to the second edition of the Haute Route San Francisco. We’ve been working hard behind the scenes to make sure everything is in place so you can live an experience of a lifetime during this three-day cycling event. Part of that process is the publication of this Roadbook. Its purpose is to provide a comprehensive guide outlining all the information you will need during the event, both on and off the bike. You will receive a hard copy of the Riders’ Roadbook at registration day in San Francisco. Inside you will find details on the registration process and accommodations at the Official Riders’

6

Hotel, as well as the host venues and technical stage information, including details of the mechanical, massage, and medical support provided. We also outline how you and your supporters can follow the event live through our social media channels and the best way to access stage results. Between now and the event you can also reach the team directly by emailing contact.northamerica@hauteroute.org or calling +1 719 287 8489. Wishing you the very best of luck with your final preparations! The Haute Route Team

INTRODUCING

SAN FRANCISCO Welcome to one of the world’s great cities. Haute Route San Francisco puts you in the heart of it, so you won’t need to travel far to experience its highlights. From the Haute Route’s operations base at the Sheraton Fisherman’s Wharf, you can bike, via the city’s Ford GoBike share, or take a vintage streetcar along the waterfront into the city. Or, head west through the historic Presidio to the Pacific Ocean. Despite the steep hills, the “City,” as the locals call it, is a walking- and cycling-friendly metropolis with miles of protected bike lanes.

Cable Cars - These classic open-air streetcars have helped locals navigate the city’s steep streets from more than 100 years. The Powell-Mason line runs from Fisherman’s Wharf to the heart of the City’s shopping district, Union Square. Golden Gate Park - This park contains groves of redwoods, an antique carousel, the historic cycling track at the Polo Fields, the M. H. de Young Memorial Museum and the Academy of Sciences Museum. The park ends at the wide, sandy beach along the Pacific Ocean, a perfect spot to catch the sunset.

Top Attractions Off the Bike The Waterfront - Hundreds of sea lions take over the docks near Pier 39. Grab a loaf of fresh sourdough bread from Boudin Bakery and watch the show. Or head around the waterfront to the Ferry Building to find foods from some of Northern California’s best dairies, farmers, and bakeries.

Twin Peaks - The iconic red-and-white communications tower sits near Twin Peaks Park and its famous views of San Francisco Bay from Christmas Tree point. From up here you can see across the bay to Mt. Diablo to the east and Stage 1’s Mt. Tamalpais to the north.
