In an emergency call 911 There will be roaming vehicles and supporting emergency response, along with emergency personnel at various rest stops along the course (see map).

Mechanical If you suffer a serious mechanical issue on route, please move off the road then text or call (415) 450-7205. We will then work to get someone out to help you. Please be patient we have lots of riders, traffic and distance to cover.

Please be vocal and ask for help if you are not feeling well or need medical attention.

SAG (support and gear) There will be SAG support throughout the course by LOOK NRS, and with mechanic support at the rest stops. In addition, there will be LOOK wagons on course, providing flat repair services along with expert mechanical support to help you get back on the road.

Hazards Like everywhere in the world, road conditions can vary from day to day, week to week. Roads are by nature littered with potholes and other dangerous hazards. It’s important that you use caution and ride within your abilities at all times.

Remember, it’s important that you stay as far right as possible throughout the ride; this will also help the SAG team move along the route to help other riders ahead of you.

Take the descents with care and never cross the yellow line. Pass your fellow rider on the left only and carefully. It is important to also let people know verbally when you are passing. Remember, the roads are open to normal traffic and will require riding as far right as possible.

Should you suffer a crash, please get off the road and signal a Jensie support vehicle for help or call 911.

Be safe and enjoy.

Call (415) 450-7205 after 911 dispatch has been alerted.

SAFE RIDING

Pacing Nearly every rider will go too hard/too fast early in the day. The excitement of the adventure and an innate urge to keep up, normally pushes people to ride above their level in the early stages. We encourage you to pace yourself and ride your own ride.

Safe Group Riding Riding in groups can be a fun, social and an efficient way of riding, but it is worth pointing out a few tips on safe conduct while on the roads:

4. No sudden movements. This includes side-to-side, and front to back (heavy accelerations and braking). Be predictable.

2.When following the rider in front, your eyes should look “through” their hands, which should be sitting on their hoods or drops (near brakes).

5. If you are leading. Be aware! Point/call out major obstacles in the road near you, including rocks, holes and large sticks. You should also ‘glide’ around major obstacles (not swerve!) but anticipating hazards and smoothly choosing a smooth line around or beyond the hazards.

3. Never allow your front wheel to cross the line of the riders rear wheel you are following. In other words, don’t ‘stagger’ your front wheel to the side of their rear wheel.

6. No aero position. Aero position poses a hazard to yourself and others in a large pack environment. With the number of riders participating in The Jensie Gran Fondo, it is far more advan-

1. Single-file at all times.

tageous to work with other riders for aerodynamic advantage rather than attempt to gain the more incremental benefit provided by time trial bars. 7. Keep the legs moving. When you are in a line of riders you cease to be one rider, instead you become a group of riders. This means your actions have an effect on everyone.

FUELING

Make sure you fuel your way to success. It is very hard to keep up with caloric expenditure on a journey like this, and it is the last place to try to lose weight! You must be smart and fuel continuously throughout the day.

You should be taking hydration and fuel every 20 - 30 minutes of the ride, beginning 20-30 minutes into each ride and continuing for the duration of the ride.

Tip: You will go through inevitable energy and motivation dips. 90% of the time this is related to dropping fuel stores. If you feel bad, take in some calories and it will pass in twenty minutes. No need to panic, let it pass and fuel your way back to good energy!!!!
