COVER STORY
“I think the magic of Il Borro lies in the concept of authenticity.”
It’s been said (and sang) that “life is what happens when you’re busy making other plans,” and Salvatore Ferragamo couldn’t agree more. There is no other way to explain how his life path completely shifted from a career in finance to one in hospitality, specifically the ownership and operation of Il Borro — a Tuscan winery, hotel, and restaurant group. And he owes it all to one life-changing bottle of wine.
That wine was Château Haut-Brion, the first Bordeaux vintage to be named after its terroir and the first luxury wine brand to be classified as Premier Grand Cru Classé. It is essentially a palette-changing wine, but for Salvatore — he of the pedigreed Ferragamo fashion family — its complex structure started a storied journey that would lead him from America, where he had been studying at New York University’s Stern School of Business, back to his home country of Italy.
Salvatore, boyishly handsome at 51, remembers this defining moment well. He had been visiting his uncle Massimo, the former proprietor of luxury Tuscan resort Castiglion del Bosco, at his home in Millbrook, New York. After a 1982 Château Haut-Brion was pulled from the depths of his cellars, the rest, as they say, was history. “I thought, This wine is truly unbelievable,” Salvatore recalls now, over Zoom, from his office above the Il Borro winery. “There was an incredible elegance to the wine, with a beautiful balance of tannins. It was a memorable experience, [and one] that made me fall in love with the wine business.”
The million-dollar phrase here is “wine business.” It’s not as if his love of wine was surprising. I mean, he’s an Italian man from a cultured family who was raised to drink wine like water. But a career in this field? Well, that’s a different story. And I am here to tell it.
Salvatore always dared to be different. It was his twin brother, James, who followed in the proverbial footsteps of their grandfather (Salvatore’s namesake) as Ferragamo’s men’s and women’s leather product director, while he himself opted for a career in finance and international business, completing both his undergraduate and graduate degrees at NYU, working in firm sales and as a stock analyst before joining international accounting company KPMG Peat Marwick in Florence.
It wasn’t until his father, Ferruccio, purchased Il Borro from the Duke Amedeo of Savoy-Aosta in 1993 that his best-laid plans began to go awry. Ferruccio needed his help in restoring the nearly 3,000-acre property to its former glory, you see, and Salvatore was powerless to resist. You never go against the family, after all.
“[My father] needed a family member to be hands-on at the property during the very busy time of restoration, of planting new vineyards, of putting the land back to work, and developing its restaurant businesses. And so, I thought, You know, I’d love to be part of this rebirth, the rebirth of Il Borro.”
It was a wise decision, needless to say, because Il Borro is truly a spectacular place. It’s postcard perfect, located 45 minutes south of Florence in the upper Valdarno valley between the mountain ranges of Pratomagno and Chianti, within a small, medieval village pre-dating the 13th century that had passed between various noble families until the Ferragamos became its stewards. Its rolling hills, acres of vineyards, and charming cobblestoned streets are almost fairytale-like.
But because it had been ignored for so long, the renovation was quite a process. Its ancient structures — formerly a castle and stronghold — still bore battle scars from World War II and required the painstaking and patient work of local artisans and craftsmen to make it whole again. Salvatore — along with his sister Vittoria, who manages the gardens as well as special projects for the property was instrumental in the step-by-step success of Il Borro, protecting its past while simultaneously making it a modern, internationally recognized luxury player in the travel and tourism industry — a five-star, historical estate with modern amenities and its own wine cellar, lauded restaurant, and even an art gallery.
“It is a fantastic achievement, taking Il Borro from what it used to be, to what it is today,” he admits. “Thirty years ago, it was in a state of abandonment, of complete disrepair. We have been able to restore it, transform it, and bring it back to its original beauty, staying very faithful to its authentic soul.”
So, although his twin entered the family business, it is Salvatore who most resembles his namesake — a man who started out small, but who ultimately built himself an empire. (Salvatore the first was a cobbler who came from nothing, while his grandson was born into a wealthy, prestigious family, but you see my point.)
But you were waiting to hear how wine transformed Salvatore’s life, no? So now, the story continues. When he began to bring Il Borro back to life, his wine business epiphany had long come and gone, leaving a lingering, unsated desire for more. And he began to wonder (as any man surrounded by the rolling hills of Chianti would): Could a vineyard work here?
The short answer: yes, it could. The more complex reality is that this desire very nearly didn’t mature to fruition. “When we started [Il Borro], it was with the very simple concept of restoring a few houses in this medieval village. And then I said, ‘You know, we should also produce a little bit of wine.’ But my father was very reluctant at first, and I think rightly so,” he recalls.
Ferruccio’s trepidation was not without reason. “My grandmother [Wanda Ferragamo, who became CEO of the Ferragamo fashion house in 1960 following her husband’s passing] was a fantastic person and had a wonderful farm that we manage today called Viesca, which is just outside of Florence. Viesca used to produce wine. I remember as a young boy, going to collect the grapes and so on. But I have to say, the wine was horrific, really bad. So, when my father started [Il Borro], I told him, ‘It’s the ’90s; everybody’s making wonderful wines from Tuscany. We should make some wines here on the property.’ He said, ‘Well, let’s just make a few acres, because the wines that I remember from childhood were not so good.’ Then he realized that the potential for fantastic wine from this area was great, and today we have 300 acres of vineyards.”

“For me, luxury is thatsomething stands the test of time.”
Indeed, Il Borro has been home to the cultivation of Chianti grapes since the early 17th century. It is a sublime location for wine, as Salvatore so smartly realized. And so, with that, new grapes were finally planted in 1997, and by 2003, the very first vintages of Il Borro Toscana were available for purchase. Since that first release, they’ve been a hit, in part because — like Salvatore himself — the brand dares to be different, growing grapes outside of the traditional Tuscan realm of merlot, cabernet sauvignon, and syrah, such as sangiovese.
“We took a very interesting approach,” Ferragamo says now. “We always believed that we should make wines according to the terroir, producing wines according to what nature is telling us. Here in the valley, you have the hilltops of county Classico, which has really beautiful scenery, but it’s also very important for winemaking. On the mountainside, we have more of a rocky, dry type of soil, which is ideal for sangiovese. Coming down the valley, you head towards a gravelly, sandy type of soil, which is ideal to produce grapes of the syrah variety. Even [farther] down, through more sandy soil, there is an ideal place to create cabernets. And even deeper down, you’ll find a more clay-like type of soil, which is ideal for merlot — the basis of the Il Borro Toscana wine label that we produce. So, essentially, this part of Tuscany is very special because we can actually plant different types of vines according to the diversity of the soil. This is at the heart of our philosophy of producing wine, along with being organic.”
This philosophy has served the family well. In 2022, the Il Borro Toscana 2018 made wine critic James Suckling’s prestigious list of the top 100 Italian wines, coming in at No. 29 with a 97 rating for the complex and full-bodied blend of merlot, cabernet sauvignon, and syrah.
Salvatore is proud of this rating, an accolade that aligned with a major moment for the brand: its 30th anniversary, which they’ll be celebrating all day, every day in 2023. In honor of this milestone which, he notes, is a small moment compared to many Italian labels that have existed for centuries, but a major one for the fledgling Il Borro — the brand will release a completely biodynamic cabernet; an extremely limited 700-bottle run of Bolle di Borro, a sparkling wine in a Champagne style comprised predominantly of sangiovese grapes; and a Tuscan chardonnay.
But as I said, the celebrations will be going strong all year long, and there are some pretty big plans in the works. Outside of the new vintages, Il Borro will host an exhibition of artworks Salvatore’s father has collected for many years, including prints by Picasso, Warhol, Mantegna, Goya, and Dürer, and will also release new packaging with a special 30th anniversary label, with more to come.
What is not part of the party plan, however, is a collaboration with the family fashion brand. “We like to keep the two businesses very separate because we believe in what we do,” he explains. “We have an incredible passion here at the winery, and are really striving for excellence. We want our guests to enjoy the property because of the uniqueness of it, and not because there’s a Ferragamo name behind it. But at the end of the day, it does have our family name, so [correlations] are inevitable.”
And expectations, as one might imagine, are high for a brand from the Ferragamo bloodline. But in Salvatore’s opinion (and many, many others, given how lauded the Il Borro businesses are), they’ve been exceeded.
“‘How is Il Borro luxury?’ has been a recurring question. We’re talking about hotels, about wines. And I think those are very much luxuries.”
“We want our guests to enjoy the property because of the uniqueness of it, and not because there’s a Ferragamo name behind it.”

or a man who is part of one of the most famous fashion families in history, but who has chosen to live his life in an easier, more relatable way: what is luxury? I’m curious how he, having experienced both spectrums, defines it.
Ferragamo’s answer comes quickly. “For me, in a word, it is ‘authentic.’ Something that is a fad, to me, is not luxury. For me, luxury is something that stands the test of time. The quality of something, if it has an intrinsic value to you, whatever it is — where you are living, the products you are enjoying. Sometimes the concept of luxury is too over the top; it becomes reaching a level that is unnecessary and that is not necessarily generating an increased quality of life.”
Il Borro, he says, is the ultimate luxury. “I think the magic of Il Borro lies in the concept of authenticity,” he announces. “I think that today, in general, talking about the tourism industry, the travel business, or the wine business, it is important to keep that in mind. And I think what we do here at Il Borro is very important because we have a thousand-year-old medieval village that has been transformed into a destination for guests to come and enjoy. It’s fantastic because you have the historical and cultural experience of Tuscany and how Tuscany was back in the day, but with modern conveniences. It is a fine balance: you want to have running water, after all, and also efficient Wi-Fi. But you also want to make things sustainable, to showcase how old farmers used to do things, for the future generations. Everything we do here is with an incredible attention to detail — in the vinification process and in the careful study of our soils to make organically certified, healthy, nonharmful products.”
Sustainability is a major factor in what keeps Il Borro running efficiently. Ferragamo has smartly looked to the future in his quest to preserve the past, using energy sources that result in zero carbondioxide emissions. In fact, the property produces more energy than it uses thanks to eco-friendly touches like solar panels, which provide energy for its cellars as well as for the hotel and restaurants; that amounts to saving 930 tons of CO2 per year. There are also “zero bill” houses on site: energy-efficient structures that operate exclusively on renewable energy. (Some of the houses feature sophisticated structures that recover rainwater, which, in turn, is redirected to special tanks that later irrigate the gardens.) Further, biodynamic practices have been employed on the land, replacing chemical products with natural methods like herbal infusions. Even the restaurants are clean and green: Osteria del Borro uses highpressure water jets in favor of chemical products for cleaning.
“This, too, is a luxury, because that kind of attention to detail is not easy,” Ferragamo (rightfully) declares. “You have to really work for it. Today, we are always wanting things fast, quick, immediate, and that’s not always possible.”
I agree that it most certainly is not, particularly for Italians, who, unlike Americans, enjoy a slower, more laid back, supremely indulgent approach to life. But Ferragamo gets it: after all, he spent some critical years of his youth in the States. He understands both cultures.
“It’s a question of finding that balance,” he says. “You have to be realistic. Today’s pace of life is incredibly fast. But at the
same time, if you can provide guests with a slower pace of life, then they might understand how a different pace of life can be incredibly enjoyable and even just as productive.”
Essentially, it’s not a struggle for Ferragamo to see both sides. He enjoys a life of his kind of luxury every single day, but he also works incredibly hard. Right now, for example, he’s planning his February trip to Naples, Florida, which will coincide with the Naples Winter Wine Festival — he describes it as “unbelievable” and a “fantastic market of wine connoisseurs” — in early celebration of the brand’s 30th anniversary. He is also looking to expand the Il Borro restaurant brand, which currently has several global properties — at Il Borro, of course, as well as in Dubai, in London, at Viesca near Florence, and at the Elounda Peninsula resort on the island of Crete (all of which, I should note, utilize produce such as extra-virgin olive oil, honey, eggs, and cheese from the farms and fields of its flagship) — with more in the pipeline.
An American opening isn’t immediately imminent, but it is a plan for the future, possibly in New York or Las Vegas.
Speaking of America, the place of his youth, I have to wonder: does he have any regrets? Had he stayed, perhaps his life would have turned out differently.
But his life now is beautiful — a fact of which he and I are both aware. And as such, his regrets are boiled down to one. “I don’t believe I would have made any major path changes, but if I had one, it would be that I would have taken the road to luxury earlier,” he admits ruefully, explaining, “When we first started developing Il Borro back in 1993, it was at a moment in time that the concept of agritourism [which involves any agriculturally based operation or activity that brings visitors to a farm or ranch] was first coming into play. And so this was the first development of Il Borro, but at that moment, it was not the best development. We took a farm holiday approach for our very simple restoration.”
That changed in 2013, when Il Borro became part of Relais & Châteaux, and Ferragamo was made an ambassador of the prestigious, independently owned luxury hotel and restaurant group, but therein lies his one lament. “My only regret was, why didn’t I get into Relais & Châteaux right from the beginning, without a restructure? Otherwise, I would have no regrets,” he declares.
But right now, any regret is a thing of the past. At this moment in time, just before Christmas, he is reveling in the near future with plans of celebrating the holidays with his family, at home in his favorite and most authentic place. It is the calm before the proverbial storm of Il Borro’s 30th anniversary year, and he’s happy to be taking it slow, at least for a little while.
As he prepares to sign off, he smiles and says, “It’s really been a fantastic journey to be able to transform this estate, and exciting to be in this new frontier of luxury.” He pauses, then adds, “When you come to visit, you will see this is a property you will not forget. It will stay with you.”
I’m ready. Because honestly, who doesn’t want to experience history in the making?

“AS HUMANS, WE ARE THE CARRIERS OF MEANING. WHEN WE ARE GONE, THE ONLY THING THAT STILL EXISTS IS OUR NAMES.”
ost would agree that, as an artist, Jeff Koons is totally out of this world. But that phrase has always had the most figurative of meanings … until now.
At this moment, the 67-year-old icon is preparing to present one of the first-ever permanent art installations on the moon. Yes, you read that right. And what’s more, the groundbreaking, atmosphere-defying Jeff Koons: Moon Phases project also marks Koons’ first foray into the metaverse.
The latter, as one might assume, was inevitable. It was just a matterof when, not if, and in typical fashion, Koons’ NFT collection would be delivered in the most unexpected way possible (as if a project involving NASA and SpaceX could be referred to as anything else).
“As you know, there’s been a lot of excitement, a lot of news, around NFTs. And of course, within the art world, it’s easy to see how they came about. A lot of artists — myself included — have been working digitally for decades. Everything that you end up doing starts off in Photoshop or in 3D; you’re manipulating something that goes through a digital process. But what I really strive to do is to bring meaning into the NFT vocabulary.”
He’ll absolutely be doing that in spades working with NFMoon (a specialized digital arts and technology company) and 4Space (a multilevel space company that is strategically involved with NASA and Intuitive Machines). The project will be presented by Pace Verso, Pace Gallery’s hub for Web3 innovation. NFMoon initially came to Koons with the idea of sending his work to space because of his unique ability to bridge art and science. For this ambitious and innovative undertaking, which was originally timed to mark 50 years since America’s last crewed trip to the moon — it’s now projected to make its maiden voyage in 2023 — Koons created 125 artworks based on moon phases. Each unique sculpture will make a lunar landing on an Intuitive Machines Nova-C Lunar Lander. The sculptures will be displayed in a transparent, thermally coted cube sustainably built with materials that can survive the extreme temperature fluctuations in space. Once the lander touches down, the work will be photographed from different perspectives, and those photos will be transmitted back to Earth and embedded within an NFT. There’s also a physical component here for those who want something tangible: Koons has created a 12.5-inch stainless-steel moon “trophy,” a limited number of which will be available for sale through Pace, with portions of the proceeds to be donated to Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières in support of the organization’s medical humanitarian aid programs.
Though the project is completely alien compared to anything the art world has seen before, Koons still manages to highlight the human element within it — a way of connecting it back to what he holds dear. It is meant to be an exploration of the human race’s imagination and innovation through past and future human achievements, drawing inspiration from the moon as a symbol of curiosity and determination.
“Each Moon Phase is associated to a person that’s lived on Earth and is no longer with us. They’re deceased, but they’re people who have made great contributions to society,” he explains, noting, “Their names are engraved within this cube that will go to the moon, that is gold leafed. And then, once the lander lands on the moon, it is permanently installed as a heritage site. It’s really a way of opening up space tourism.”
Though Koons struggled to narrow down his options, he eventually landed on icons including Josephine Baker, Muhammad Ali, Leonardo da Vinci, Sojourner Truth, Machiavelli, Louis Bourgeois, Plato, Sappho, Cleopatra and Elvis Presley. His intention was to incorporate individuals from around the globe: masculine, feminine, different backgrounds, different perspectives. It is a project that explores the imagination and technological innovation of the human race, but it also represents the limitless potential of humanity. And in paying his respects to historical figures, Koons was able to show his respect for the past while still looking toward the future.
“When you think of Elvis, for example, there’s some emotional reaction that happens to you. And we are now the carriers of their meaning, which is what I wanted to highlight. Technology stores the information, but we, as humans, are the carriers,” he explains, pausing thoughtfully before saying, “As humans, we are the carriers of meaning. When we are gone, the only thing that still exists [is] our names. And that’s what I want to highlight here.”
Linking the past to the future — indeed, connection in general — is a constant theme throughout our chat. This is the beating heart of what he wishes to accomplish, and be known for, with his art.
“I believe that the way you are able to transcend in life is by giving it up, finding something greater than the self. And for me, joy is the celebration of those individuals, that community that’s within the cube,” he says. “Paying homage to our forbearers, to our ancestors, is something I enjoy being involved with very profoundly. To be able to pay homage to these people, to show this kind of appreciate for the gestures of our forbearers, is one of the most meaningful things we have.”
Koons continues. “It’s an amazing time we live in. We’re free of the confines of Earth, on the verge of interplanetary traveling. We’re able to discover. I feel we already have a great understanding of the probability of the absolute abundance of life, because we know now that there are just billions and billions of stars and billions of galaxies and planets. It’s just unending. And as we go in that direction, we also know that in the quantum area, we’re going back down on a smaller area, almost on a similar level.”
He himself is going to have to discover this in more esoteric and creative ways, though that doesn’t seem like much of a problem. He has been doing it for his entire life, after all. “Yes, I have a desire to go into space, and I hope at some point, that I have the opportunity to do so. But right now, I’m really active in my studio,” he shares.
It’s been a busy year for Koons. Jeff Koons: Apollo, his recent solo exhibition of new sculptures and ready-made sculptures located at the Slaughterhouse, a DESTE Foundation Project Space, in Hydra, Greece, closed its doors on Halloween. In March, he’ll head to Los Angeles for an exhibition at the Pace Gallery to show paintings and objects that he’s been working on for the last decade, inclusive of his Pink Ballerina sculpture.
Next up — he’s leaving the day after our chat, as it happens — he’s heading back to the Middle East to erect his latest sculpture (his solo exhibition, Jeff Koons: Lost in America, was on view until March). The almost 80-foot-tall and 105-foot-wide inflatable Dugong, made of polychromed custom fabric, electric fans, and steel and was created for Al-Masrah Park and installed before the World Cup, is meant to be a new icon for Doha in celebration of Qatar’s natural heritage.
Sheikha Al-Mayassa bint Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, the sister of Qatar’s ruler, His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, asked him to create the piece to call attention to the plight of the dugong, an endangered marine mammal. “I told her of course I would love to,” he says now, sharing that he made a sculpture that resembles something one might find at the bottom of a fish tank, with waves breaking, some grass, and, of course, the dugong itself.
He smiles. “I’m really thrilled to be able to make a piece that will generate some awe and wonderment. I hope that this piece carries some kind of aspect of joy, that people can look at it and realize the beauty of the animal, and have an appreciation for the world that we live in in general, our own biology, our own excitement. This piece is saying that, not only do we have to take care of the dugong, but that we have to take care of our own environments, and ourselves, too.”
Koons is eternally grateful to have been commissioned for this, just as he’s grateful for all the seemingly diverse opportunities that land on his doorstep. To him, it keeps life interesting, being able to create art for different groups of people, to create different feelings through different mediums, and to connect the world through his art.
“I have to say, I’m really grateful for the opportunities that I have had, to be able to be involved in the dialogue of the art world, and to have had such different projects within that world,” he says, adding with a smile, “I really have to pinch myself.”
M HAUTE LIVING NAPLES 27
That brings me to my attempt at discovering Jeffrey Lynn Koons, the man behind the art. He is an enigma to be sure, speaking in philosophical riddles, punctuating my name politely throughout our conversation, skin glowing with the late afternoon sunshine streaming into the office of his Hell’s Kitchen studio. He exudes a radiant kind of peace as he leapfrogs from art to philosophy, past to present to future. I almost expect a halo to briefly make an appearance: the artist, as an angelic man.
He is speaking about the overall underlying theme of his hybrid of conceptual, minimalistic, and pop art, work that has spanned over 40 years since his first solo exhibition in 1980 — how he has shaped contemporary aesthetics through thought-provoking, ebullient sculptures that engage with pop culture, mass media, and art history. These sculptures include the towering floral and steel Puppy, an ode to joy located at the Guggenheim Bilbao, and Rabbit, a fantasy-inspired piece that currently holds the world record for the most expensive piece made by a living artist. (It was sold by Christie’s New York in 2019 for $91.1 million.) The mirror-polished, stainless-steel Popeye sold for $28.2 million, and Balloon Dog (Orange) sold for $58.4 million.
But back to the themes. Joy, love, fantasy — these seem obvious. But they are not, as a whole, what Koons intended. His huge metal balloon animals, topiary sculptures, presentations of images as they pass through time — combining art historical references with vernacular images and objects — as well as sculptures of recognizable figures such as Michael Jackson and Bubbles, a gigantic gold-leaf porcelain statue of the pop singer with his pet chimpanzee, and his Made in Heaven series (centered on him and his then-wife in sexually explicit poses) all demonstrate a different kind of feeling, in his opinion.
“I think my work has an underlying aspect of empowerment,” he declares. (I didn’t see that one coming. Yet, art is subjective, right?)
I must look surprised, because he says, “The reason for that, Laura, is that I was always very insecure about not knowing what art was, coming from a very middle-class background,” he explains. “I was very, what they would say, talented. I could always draw things and make perfect ellipses and shading and make amazing pastels and paintings when I was younger. At the time, I thought I had to follow the rules, and that was confining. But when I went to art school and had my first art history lesson, I realized, Wow, art is something that connects you to all the human disciplines. Art is about sociology, psychology, philosophy. I loved its connectiveness, and this sense of opening oneself up to the world. [What I found is that] art is something that happens inside the viewer; it is really the unique individual essence of our potential. That’s the only thing of value that’s taking place.”
He discusses growing up in York, Pennsylvania, and how his ensuing years at the Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore and the Art Institute of Chicago shaped him. “I was not really brought up going to museums. I didn’t know who Braque or Cézanne were, so I always wanted to be involved with an art that was really removing any judgment. Whatever your cultural background is, it can’t be anything other than what that is, so the dialogue has very much been about acceptance and the removal of judgment.”
What he appreciates most about the art world is that it is a community, and that in it, he has a sense of acceptance and affinity. “The art world has become very vast. There are opportunities for so many to participate now — incredible technologies … the personal computer, the internet, NFTs. I think to be part of a group is so important in the sense of belonging. I think back to the avant-garde. I love the idea of Duchamp, Picabia, Dalí — the surrealists. Even though they had different feuds going on, they were part of a group, they were part of a similar time and looking at similar challenges. But to be able to be part of something, technology has really given us that. It’s given us information that we can have an understanding of being a part of even more things, and even a part of larger groups. There are more and more opportunities for us to experience connectiveness. We’re interconnected, at this moment and in history. And our future is interconnected, too.”
I am surprised by this, telling him that personally, art seems like an
entirely solitary venture: one that the artist much looks within for. But he respectfully disagrees. “I’ve done it for decades as a young artist sitting in a room by myself, making paintings and working on projects. And you do have to be able to focus on your work. But now, if young people ask me, ‘How can I be as creative as possible?’ I say that the only thing that we can do is follow our interests. What could bring you more joy than following your own interests and focusing on those interests? But you also have to learn how to trust in yourself, too. If you trust in yourself and you follow your interests and really focus intensely on those interests, they will connect you to a metaphysical place where time and space spin, and before you know it, you’re connected to a universal vocabulary, where everybody coming down the street looks so familiar to you.”
I wonder when that shift happened for Koons. I want specifics, but in his typical ethereal fashion, he simply smiles and says, “I felt it happening as I was learning to trust in myself. I would be making paintings of what I dreamt the night before, and at one point, I just woke up and felt like I accepted myself. I just don’t want to go inward anymore. I want to go outward. And that was really where things changed for me. I love the philosopher John Dewey because he tried to describe life in the most simple terms — as an organism, a singlecelled organism, being affected by its environment. And then, after it’s affected by its environment, it in return is affecting the environment. This opening of oneself is what becoming is; this is transcendence. And the more that we can trust in opening oneself up to the world, to our environment, the more we can become, the more we can transcend.”
“But specifically?” I wonder, and this time, he obliges with a concrete answer.
“This happened in art school, when I finally wanted to really open myself up to the world. I started working with ready-made objects, and these ready-made objects are a way of using acceptance as a metaphor. ‘This object is alright, and this object being alright means that everything is alright.’ Everything’s perfect in its own being. So, once you learn to accept yourself, you’re able to go outside and accept others and all objects. Images become metaphors for others.”
In that acceptance, he says, he found freedom. “I always feel free,” Koons admits. “I wake up in the morning and I’m just really grateful. I’m always exercising freedom, and I strive in life to reach a higher level of consciousness through the arts to bring all human disciplines together. I love to celebrate the freedom we have as artists and the beauty of our community; the people involved in the art world really do care about each other. They care about sharing a dialogue about what we can become individually and what the art world as a community can become.”
This is the reason, too, that he enjoys Art Basel; he will be attending this year as a lover of art and an exhibitor. “I remember coming to Art Basel in some of its earliest days [in 2003, its second year]. The most important thing is that it brings people together. That’s even more important than the artwork itself; the art is something that you can have a discourse around, and it’s wonderful. I think that the fair will see a lot of inclusiveness, which is fantastic — art from all areas of the world, all different backgrounds and more and more stimulating imagery. It’s a win-win situation.”
Because, as I’ve now learned, the most important thing for Jeff Koons is that he feels connected. It gives him a sense of purpose and of self. Whether that’s through the art community or not makes no difference. Connection is connection, after all.
He references a particularly impactful moment in time before we say goodbye, and this moment, to me, sums up Jeff Koons, and his current place in life, to a “T.” “I love the sensation of feeling connected. One time, I was invited to Stockholm to attend a Nobel Prize gathering. I was speaking with this Nobel Prize winner, having a conversation about life. And he told me that life is an illusion, an animated chemical chain reaction. I thought it was so profound. And I was like, Man, that just answered everything for me. That’s one of the reasons I like connectivity so much: Like life itself, it too is an animated chemical chain reaction.”
Or maybe it’s a metaphorical journey to the moon? Just saying.

Robin Austin to create an iconographic masterpiece of the Naples Pier while also restoring the community through strength and resilience. This project launches a meaningful community-wide initiative, “Mosaic of Memories: The Naples Pier Project.” How cool to launch an art-driven fundraiser to help restore the community and celebrate the strength and resilience of Naples in the aftermath of Hurricane Ian. The project will benefit first responders locally as we work together to rebuild the pier.
The Naples-based art gallery and Robin Austin have infinite plans to create this masterpiece – an Iconographic masterpiece of the Naples Pier in a limited edition. This unique masterpiece will be created using thousands of photographs submitted by the Naples community to form mosaic “tiles” for this artwork.
“We will select one picture of the Naples Pier in its glory before the hurricane struck and recreate it using more than 2,000 photos submitted by residents that represent their best and happiest memories in and around Naples,” said Neil Pennington, Partner in Emillions Art. “We hope that this is something the local community can really rally around.” An anticipated 102 limited edition prints (40 x 60) will be produced, with 80 of them being sold and 20 percent of the proceeds going to the Collier County 100 Club to support families of first responders post-Hurricane Ian as well as for the City of Naples community restoration efforts, including the Naples Pier. Another 20 of the prints will be auctioned off at a public event with a floor price of $5,000 each, and 100 percent of those proceeds will go toward the cause. One commemorative work will be donated and presented to each the City of Naples for display at City Hall and the Naples Fire Department for display at their downtown site.
“Our first responders served heroically through the hurricane, and so many of them lost everything themselves. They were the inspiration for this project,” said Marlissa Gardiner, Founder and Owner of Emillions Art. “Our other cause is the Naples Pier as no other place is as iconic of Naples as the Naples Pier. It is the heart of
our community.” Through donations and tax support, the Naples Pier has and will forever remain the iconic heart of Naples.
The unveiling process of creating the artwork falls with Austin. A respected English artist, Austin is known for his photographic mosaic artwork and digital art, which reflect his love and devotion to storytelling. Among those he has immortalized our cultural icons such as Mick Jagger, the Beatles, Marilyn Monroe, Elvis Presley and Nelson Mandela.

Hublot Loves Football
For its fourth consecutive edition, Hublot is the official timekeeper of the FIFA World Cup, the iconic global sports competition.
BY GABRIEL PESSOA
AHEAD OF THE HIGHLY ANTICIPATED 2022 FIFA WORLD Cup in Qatar, Hublot unveils a new Big Bang model created to commemorate the world’s most popular sporting event. The Big Bang e FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™ is a connected watch with a new “timeline” function that will take fans right into the heart of the action — even before it begins.
“We’ve waited four years — the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 is coming! Hublot has always been ‘unique, first, different,’ becoming the first fine watchmaking brand in football in 2006,” notes Ricardo Guadalupe, the CEO of Hublot. “Today, Hublot is the first name in football timekeeping. For this year’s tournament, we wanted to do something that expresses our belief in a free, diverse, and unified world in a new and memorable way. Football is the world’s game and has a unique power to carry a message of hope to every corner of the Earth, connecting us and showcasing everything that brings us together.”
The Big Bang e FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 is the highestperforming and most exciting Big Bang to date, sporting exclusive technical elements. From the countdown to the finals, Hublot will be at the heart of the action. Once a game kicks off, the watch will automatically enter “match mode” and activate “timeline,” a feature created exclusively for this watch that will help fans capture the most memorable and most important moments in soccer.
The outer edge of the dial features a scale split into five sections, indicating the first and second halves, additional time allowed in each half, and halftime. If a goal is scored, the watch will show a match event animation mentioning the player’s name, and a soccer ball will appear at the appropriate minute mark on the scale. It functions the same way if there is a yellow card, a red card, or a penalty. And, if a match goes beyond normal time, the watch display will automatically switch into “extra time mode,” and then again into “shootout mode” in the event a match goes to penalties. Each penalty is recorded by a soccer ball with a green or red outline to indicate whether the attempt was successful. A final “match period animation” shows when the game is over and the final score. At any point during a game, the wearer can replay these events by scrolling around the dial using the watch’s crown.
The watch is powered by Wear OS 3, the latest version of Wear OS by Google™, and comes with its own app. Highly customizable with dozens of dial options and strap designs available through this smartphone app, the Big Bang e FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 takes personalization to the next level. The official version is designed with a burgundy dial and a black-andburgundy-lined rubber strap inspired by the flag colors of the State of Qatar, the FIFA World Cup 2022 host country. It’s a watch designed for style-conscious people who lead active lives — and who love football.

NEW NAUTILUS
models.
BY ADRIENNE FAUROTE
OCTOBER PROVED TO BE A RATHER EXCITING MONTH FOR Patek Philippe as the Genevan luxury brand unveiled a series of new models in particular, four new Nautilus timepieces.
REF. 5811/1G-001 NAUTILUS
Perhaps the most notable is the highly anticipated replacement for the 5711: the new Patek Philippe Nautilus Ref. 5811/1G-001, which comes in a sleek white gold, ultimately replacing the steel of the 5711 we know and admire. While the two models are seemingly identical to the naked eye, the new 5811/1G measures one millimeter larger at 41 mm and features a new patented fold-over clasp with a bespoke lockable adjustment system. The case construction is also noteworthy, as it sports a new pull-out piece lever system on the side that replaces the split stem in response to the 5711 and a nod to the original Nautilus of 1976 with a two-part case. Perfectly complementing the new precious metal of the 5811 is the blue sunburst dial designed with a subtle black gradation, horizontally embossed — a signature design element of Patek. Behind the sapphire crystal caseback is the self-winding mechanical movement Caliber 26-330 S C, the same movement housed in the 5711. The timepiece is water resistant up to 120 m.
REF. 5990/1A-011
NAUTILUS TRAVEL TIME CHRONOGRAPH
One of Patek Philippe’s rare steel watches, the Nautilus Travel Time Chronograph, has returned with a new blue sunburst dial with the signature black-gradient rim. Still powering the timepiece is the Patek Philippe self-winding Caliber CH 28-520 C FUS movement,
combining three complications: a flyback chronograph, a Travel Time function that has two time zones with two separate hour hands with the skeletonized hand showing the home time, and an analog date at 12 o’clock that is synchronized with local time.
REF. 5712/1R-001 NAUTILUS
Exuding unparalleled elegance and sophistication is the Ref. 5712/1R-001 Nautilus, sporting an analog date, moon phases, and a power reserve. Catapulting this timepiece into a new echelon is the palette pairing of the rose-gold 40 mm case and bracelet with the rich brown sunburst dial — ultimately creating a warm tonal piece. Housed within the watch is the self-winding 240 PS IRM C LU Caliber with a maximum power reserve of 48 hours.
REF. 7118/1300R NAUTILUS
Last but certainly not least is Patek Philippe’s take on haute joaillerie with the new ladies’ Nautilus, which is adorned with precious gems. Designed in luxurious rose gold, the octagonal bezel is set with two rows of 68 spessartite baguettes that feature a double color gradation from cognac at 12 and 6 o’clock to champagne at 9 and 3 o’clock. On the dial, the hour markers are made of ogiveshaped spessartite baguettes in cognac hues. And for the ultimate touch, the timepiece has the iconic horizontally embossed dial ― but with a subtle wave for feminine sophistication. Inside, the 7118/1300R Nautilus is equipped with the self-winding 324 S C movement, as seen through the sapphire caseback.

A CINEMATIC LEGEND
Jacob & Co. releases the Opera Godfather 50th Anniversary to celebrate the golden anniversary of Francis Ford Coppola’s legendary film.
BY ADRIENNE FAUROTE
TO CELEBRATE THE 50TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE GODFATHER, Jacob & Co. released an extremely rare 50-piece limited series that is a testament to the long-standing connection between the film and Jacob & Co.’s high watchmaking. The timepiece fuses the world of ultra-high-end watchmaking with the breathtaking complexity of a mechanical music box — ultimately creating a timepiece that is truly like no other, in true Jacob & Co. fashion.
Not one detail within the Opera Godfather 50th Anniversary goes unnoticed. Intricately designed from the inside out, the watch incorporates 13 of the movie’s scenes, which are laser-etched onto the white gold case ― in the same narrative order as in the film ― with an unprecedented level of vividness and quality. Each scene is individually etched on the case using the groundbreaking, highintensity, high-precision femtolaser technology, and it takes no less than 30 hours to perfect the craft.
Housed in the bold 49 mm white-gold case are intentional design touches that make this timepiece special: from the quoteengraved rose-gold barrels reading legendary lines like “I’m gonna
make him an offer he can’t refuse” and “Never ask me about my business” to the piano with The Godfather logo plate covering the combs in polished PVD black with rose-gold deco to the delicate rose figurine.
Like its predecessor, the Opera Godfather 50th Anniversary features the music box, engineered within the strict constraints of a wristwatch. The music box is designed to play the iconic theme of The Godfather, re-created into this purely mechanical format in official partnership with Paramount Pictures. A single press on the pusher at the case’s 10-o’clock position initiates the chiming mechanism and sets 658 components into motion. Next, a pair of uniquely crafted cylinders begins to rotate at a finely calculated tempo, brushing its 36 teeth against a pair of combs to play 120 notes of the original movie theme. Powered by the exclusive JCFM04 caliber, the time display remains in the correct 12/6 orientation as the entire platform of the Opera Godfather 50th Anniversary rotates during the impressive operation of the music box complication

Nature’s Calling
Grand Seiko’s new timepieces are seasonal masterpieces.
BY ADRIENNE FAUROTE
OFTEN INSPIRED BY NATURE’S DYNAMIC ELEMENTS, Grand Seiko’s timepieces delve deep into the storytelling found within Mother Nature. For the brand’s latest luxury timepiece launch, they debuted four stunning pieces that embody the spring, winter, and fall seasons.
THE SBGY013
There is a popular legend that the “Omiwatari” is where the gods walk out over the ice of the frozen Lake Suwa; therefore, the talented craftsmen and women have intricately designed the dial of the SBGY013 to reflect the color and texture of the snow-covered ice on the lake. Housed within the 38.5 mm stainless-steel case is the Spring Drive Caliber 9R31, which features a dual mainspring structure that delivers a power reserve of 72 hours when fully wound.
THE SLGH019
Exclusive to the Grand Seiko Boutique online, the Hi-Beat 36000 timepiece is inspired by Mt. Iwate in winter — the most dramatic time for the snow on the slopes. The dial of the Hi-Beat 36000 embodies the deep blue of the night sky over the peak of the mountain. The SLGH019 is equipped with the Caliber 9SA5, offering
a power reserve of 80 hours due to its twin barrels. The 40 mm case of the Evolution 9-style watch is created with high-intensity titanium that perfectly complements the deep blue dial.

For the SBGW281, Grand Seiko found inspiration in Bantō, the “sekki” (season) in Japan when the harshest days of winter are over, and the longawaited warmth of the sun lights up the snow-covered landscape. At a glance, the watch appears incredibly minimal, but when seen through the sapphire caseback, the exposed craftsmanship of the timepiece is quite complicated. Inside, the timepiece is powered by the slim, hand-wound movement, Caliber 9S64, which is exquisitely finished and boasts a stable accuracy rate and a power reserve of 72 hours.
The SBGW287
We approach the autumnal season with the SBGW287, inspired by the rich colors of Boshū, the sekki when the trees that surround the Grand Seiko Studio Shizukuishi in northern Japan change in hue and announce that winter is just around the corner — which is evident on the dial of this watch. Like the SBGW281, this watch is equipped with the hand-wound movement, Caliber 9S64.

Rolex’s new Oyster Perpetual Air-King pays tribute to the art of aviation.
BY ADRIENNE FAUROTE
DESIGNED FOR THE PIONEERS OF AVIATION AND THOSE who dare to explore the vast heights of the sky, the new Oyster Perpetual Air-King is a timepiece that embodies the spirit of flight. The history of the Air-King dates back to the 1930s — the golden age of aviation, a period when the aviation industry made massive leaps in aircraft performance, paving the way for future pilots. Several pilots set records while wearing an Oyster, while others used a Rolex watch as an onboard chronometer, solidifying it as a legendary aviation timepiece.
The new model boasts a completely redesigned case, with a crown guard and straight sides like most Professional category models. Its display has been refreshed and balanced with the addition of a 0 before the 5 on the minutes scale — two digits now mark each five-minute interval.
Like its predecessors, the new-generation Air-King has the distinctive black dial — but this edition is enhanced with an optimized Chromalight display, guaranteeing maximum legibility in dark conditions. Additionally, the hands and triangular hour marker at 12 o’clock are filled and coated with new luminescent material — exclusive to Rolex — for a longer lasting, more intense glow. The 3, 6, and 9 numerals are now also visible in the dark thanks to this innovative material.
Finally, the new Air-King is equipped with caliber 3230, a movement entirely developed and manufactured by Rolex, released in 2020 and now fitted on this model from 2022. Caliber 3230 incorporates the patented Chronergy escapement, which combines high energy efficiency with excellent dependability, making the new Air-King the ultimate air companion.

ENTREPRENEURSHIP IS IN MATT GANZAK’S DNA
The founder of BlockShore.com sat down with Haute Living to discuss his businesses, family, success, mentorship, his love for cars, including his newest addition, the Ferrari 488 GTB, and most importantly, how he got there.
Haute Living: Tell us about BlockShore and where you hope to see its success five years down the road.
Matt Ganzak: Over the last 15 years, I have created several seven and eight-figure startups and assisted in course-correcting struggling businesses. BlockShore was founded with the vision of raising capital to build technology, invest in startups, and acquire struggling businesses in a single vertical market. We believe that BlockShore has the formula for being disruptive in capturing market share in each market targeted. In five years, we should see our success reach a high valuation by capturing a large market share, starting first in eCommerce technology.
HL: Were there any specific reasons you chose the Ferrari 488 GTB?
MG: Yes! This was an interesting story, actually. My wife Sachi and I went out for dinner and a movie. Sachi was pregnant with our second child, and we were able to drop off our two-year-old with my mom for the afternoon. On the way back, we were driving past the Ferrari dealership when Sachi mentioned she had an event there the following day. I asked if I could go with her and she said no because it was a women’s luncheon. We stopped at the dealership 30 minutes before closing. We were greeted immediately by Brian Morris. He showed us the 488 GTB, which was similar to the car we had previously rented while in Rome. I told Brian, “Let’s do it. Send me the paperwork!” The next day Sachi was surprised with congratulations on her new Ferrari while at the ladies’ luncheon event. The Ferrari was a very special purchase, as I have never bought anything for myself; I’m always focused on buying things for others or reinvesting in the business. Sachi was happy that I finally bought something for myself, although I still consider the car Sachi’s “push present.”
HL: How do you juggle family and work-life balance?
MG: I work from home, so I can be here all the time. I give every
bath, make every meal, read to our kids, and put them to bed every night. Over the last 15 years, I spent time traveling the world, meeting with clients, speaking at events and creating our processes that drive our businesses today. We intentionally built our lives and businesses to be able to allow for more family time by putting a world-class team in place and automating our growth through technology.
HL: What to you is the greatest luxury in life, and why?
MG: Health. Being able to eat well, exercise and feel good. There’s no opportunity in life or business without your health. You absolutely need to prioritize your health, which can be a luxury. It takes more time to prepare nutritious food, which helps to create a good quality of life, but feeling good every day and rarely having any illness in our household has been priceless for us; we attribute this back to the quality of food we eat and give to our kids.
HL: What decisions did you make in your 20s and 30s to get you and your success where you are today?
MG: I made a lot of sacrifices over the years and lost a lot of friends in the process. It was difficult to say “no” to every guy’s trip, refuse late nights, and avoid all peer pressure. But my dedication and focus through my 20s and 30s have paid off. Today I don’t have to hustle and travel the world for clients like I used to; I can spend time with my family and give my kids the experience every day that they need. We are abundantly blessed, happy and living a humble family life, which in turn has attracted so many new friends and quality experiences into our lives.
HL: Is there any advice you have for anyone who wants to follow in the footsteps of achieving such great success at a uniquely young age?
MG: Move fast. Move ridiculously fast. Don’t be over-analytical or self-doubting. For example, when I sat down to write a book a few years ago, I literally just sat down and wrote the entire book in 48 hours. It took me a few short weeks between sitting down to write the book and becoming an Amazon Bestselling Author. Since writing this book six years ago, I have created perpetual momentum based upon these three steps: have a vision, set a goal, and execute fast. Then use your watch to track time spent working on your goals, not a calendar.

Ferrari SF90 +
LaFerrari’s powerful younger brother.
BY TIM LAPPEN
WHEN I SAT DOWN TO WRITE ABOUT THE FERRARI SF90, I Had Two ideas — one was simply to type “Wow!” 500 times, thereby filling my word count while leaving enough room for some nice photos. However, that would not provide much illumination about this incredible vehicle, so I went with the second option — “Wow!” written only 100 times with more discussion following.
“Good idea,” said I to no one in particular. “Not so fast,” said my editor. So here’s the result of that negotiation.
The SF90 is one of the most incredible vehicles I have ever driven. What does that mean exactly? It means that it is gorgeous, it has copious amounts of power (almost 1,000 hp!), it can accelerate like an aircraft carrier’s jet launcher and can top the speed of virtually any passenger jet’s liftoff velocity. Yet words alone cannot amply describe what it is like to drive a car that has such an ability to thrill that it can accelerate faster than you can say “Isaac Newton” since it’s an object that seemingly never stays at rest.
The name SF90 denotes that Scuderia (“stable,” of course) Ferrari was founded 90 years ago. The Scuderia moniker normally is associated with the racing division of a car manufacturer, but when it comes to Ferrari, their street cars are imbued with the soul of their racers so it was appropriate to denote this street car as the SF90 as it is the first Ferrari ever to combine potent gasoline-powered energy (769 hp) with three electric motors (217 hp). Two of those motors are independent of each other and motivate the front wheels while the third motor assists the gas engine in providing the thrust to the gearbox and, by extension, the rear wheels. And boy does that power (a total of 986 hp) perform, with 0 to 60 mph hit in 2.5 seconds, quicker than you can say “License and registration, too?”
All Ferraris are both sinewy and svelte and the SF90 does not wander from that formula. With purposeful scoops, vents, wings, and slats, the car looks fast when stopped and is superfast when underway. The top speed is 211 mph but it’s how it gets

there — the way it feels and sounds — and the way it handles once there that combine to make this car so amazing. It clearly is a close relative of the Ferrari Formula 1 cars as it’s so comfortable under heavy acceleration and cruising at high speed (no, I didn’t exceed 200 mph; I promise that I was below 150 mph virtually the entire time). And yet there is no punishment imposed as a byproduct of that astounding performance as the car feels like it’s on the way to far greater speeds, so comfortable is it under all of the conditions that I experienced.
The SF90 clearly is a performance car for the ages but it’s also beautiful, easy, and fun to drive, plus it sounds great. Since it’s a plug-in hybrid, I was surprised (not really) to see that it wasn’t on the California DMV carpool-eligible list but, then again, maybe that’s not the target market. With a base price of $513, 691, perhaps not that many owners will be commuting 9 to 5. However and wherever you drive it, if you’re fortunate enough to get some seat time with this special car, I predict that you will love every minute of it.

2023 Aston Martin
DBX707
An SUV with the heart of a lion.
BY TIM LAPPEN
ASTON MARTIN IS ONE OF THE LATEST MANUFACTURERS to enter the Suv parade, to be followed soon by Ferrari and Lotus. But not long after the Aston DBX arrived, the company delivered this fire-breather, the DBX707. And not to be outdone by others, Aston mated its beautiful, sinewy body with a 707 British horsepower (measured in PS, which makes it about 697 horsepower). And I am here to tell you that it puts all of those several hundred ponies to good use. (Note: even with the long-term James Bond connection, Aston obviously didn’t want to have to market a vehicle with only 007 horsepower, so they had to use this nameplate number.)
Aston Martin has made beautiful cars for years. In the 1950s, Ian Fleming helped immortalize Aston Martins as the cars that James Bond drove. Fleming’s verisimilitude was on several levels, with Bond partaking of various brands of drinks, weaponry, and the like, but almost everyone seems aware that Sir James drove an Aston. Also, we can thank the movies for the extensive list of options on the Bond Astons, which were replete with ejection seats, machine guns, oil slicks, and more. What a great product placement, on which Aston Martin has ridden for many years.
The more modern Astons are closer to the top supercars of these days in that they have more sculptural forms, more sophisticated technology, and more potent motors. And nowhere is that new formula more present than with the DBX707, which can rip off 0-60 mph in 3.1 seconds on its way to a claimed top speed of 193 mph. Even the quarter-mile drag race stats are impressive: 11.5 seconds with a trap speed of 119 mph. As impressive as the numbers are, the SUV feels even faster, thanks no doubt to its great exhaust note and its very fine interior.
The suggested retail price for the DBX707 is $236,000, but “mine” had a number of fine options, boosting the price to $292,186. That compares favorably to the Lamborghini Urus and the Bentley Bentayga. However, at some 700 horsepower, the DBX707 leads the power parade. No wonder it’s gotten rave reviews from many.
But back to the options. As is the case with most manufacturers these days, the DBX has many color choices, each with a price tag of note. Mine was “Satin Titanium Grey,” which added $8,900, but that was the second most-expensive option on the SUV since it also had a number of the “Twill Carbon Fibre” packages: Carbon Fibre Gloss Upper Package for $9,200; Carbon Fibre and Dark Chrome Jewelry at $3,400; and Carbon Fibre Trim Inlay for $4,500.
As I love gray cars and carbon fiber, I owe a huge shout-out to the person who configured my SUV. When you add the 23-inch forged textured black wheels at $5,700 and Arden Green Metallic Leather (stunning!) at $2,800, along with a few other bits and pieces, you can see why the sticker was some $53,000 above the base. But, personally, I would have chosen all of those options too.
Looks are good, of course, but can the performance cash the checks that the DBX is writing? Abso-Aston-lutely. We already know the stats show it’s a straight-line performer. But it was a delight to discover how the DBX707 handles the “twisties.” It’s surefooted and corners really well, which is somewhat surprising since most of today’s primo handlers are e-cars with a very low center of gravity thanks to the batteries ensconced at or below the height of the axles. While the 707’s motor isn’t as heavy as the Aston V12, it’s still a force to be reckoned with, especially when the DBX is as tall as it is. I really like that the car has the ability to go almost in stealth mode and then, with the choice of the steering-wheel buttons for performance and suspension modes and the stomp of the pedal, it’s a real fire-breather.
I must admit that I was always a fan of the Aston Martin brand ― even the exhaust sound alone plays my favorite song ― but it has done a terrific job with the DBX707 in keeping the DNA of Aston’s performance, fit, finish, and sound while venturing into a whole different category of vehicles than they ever have before. Any nits or nats to mention? Not really, as I loved my time with the car and was very, very sorry to see it go back at the end of the week.

Artist Paolo Troilo’s latest canvas is a Lamborghini Huracán EVO.
BY NIKITA VIVEK PAWAR
DEBUTED ITS LATEST ART CAR IN MILAN,
a Paolo Troilo-painted Lamborghini Huracán EVO called the Minotauro (Minotaur). The work expresses the dynamism, power, and innermost emotions that the artist experienced while driving the car.
Troilo’s painting uses the representation of the male body as its defining element and as a means of communication. His work, titled “Minotauro,” owes its name to the mix of emotion and meaning that the artist experienced when he encountered Lamborghini.
Troilo completed his education at the European Institute of Design in Rome, then went on to study arts and architecture at the University of Florence. His work has been exhibited in numerous cities like Singapore, San Francisco, Istanbul, New York, Milan, Rome, Palermo, Florence, and more.
“It was inspiring to meet Paolo Troilo and his artistic expressiveness. In our company, we are accustomed to art and how it has always influenced our cars,” commented Christian Mastro, marketing director at Automobili Lamborghini. “However, when our product and the emotions it brings come together with the sensibilities of an artist like Troilo, something different and exceptionally unique like ‘Minotauro’ is created, and we are very proud of this.”
The creator pays tribute to the Huracán EVO by depicting a fusion between man, and the bull symbol of Automobili Lamborghini. The fusion is inspired by the concept of myth expressed in the indomitable — supernatural and almost animalistic. The artist tactfully plays with the anatomy and myth that there are many similarities like the clenched fists on the front hood that resemble a bull’s horns.
“Time. I am enamoured with the idea of slowness, and I have always championed it as a key to pleasure, culture, beauty, and success. But there are some encounters that change you,” explained Troilo. “Seeing the Lamborghini Huracán EVO and trying it out suggested to me that there are also things capable of releasing the same energy with acceleration, with speed, with momentum. I heard the sound of the wind picking up as the space narrowed and time distorted: I felt a flowing wind and used it to paint on the muse itself, the inspiration of these emotions: the Huracán, my Minotauro.”
The Huracán EVO painted by Troilo, along with some of the artist’s other works, was displayed at Palazzo Serbelloni at Corso Venezia, 16 in Milan from November 4 to 13. This display was a part of the “TROILO-MILANO SOLO ANDATA” (TROILO-MILAN ONE WAY) exhibition, curated by Luca Beatrice.

Mulliner’s First Electrified Bentley +
The ultimate in four-door luxury grand touring was revealed at Monterey Car Week in California.
BY NIKITA VIVEK PAWAR
BENTLEY MULLINER HAS INTRODUCED THE ULTIMATE four-door luxury grand touring: the first electrified Bentley. Named Flying Spur Mulliner, the new GT can enjoy a technically advanced V6 hybrid powertrain, the emotional V8 or endless waves of torque from the W12. Revealed at California’s prestigious Monterey Car Week, the elegantly appointed sedan sits at the pinnacle of the Flying Spur family, combining the very finest in modern craftsmanship and breathtaking luxury.
The most luxurious Flying Spur to date has been created and developed by Bentley Mulliner and designed, engineered and handcrafted in Great Britain. Taking its place as the flagship of the Bentley range, it will appeal to customers who desire an even greater focus on elegant details. Beautifully appointed detailing includes exclusive 22-inch wheels in a gray painted and polished finish with self-levelling wheel caps that remain upright as the wheels rotate, a “double diamond” front grille and chrome front lower grille that are matched by bespoke Mulliner-branded wing vents, and Satin Silver painted mirror caps. The iconic Bentley Flying B is electronically deployed and illuminated, along with jewel caps for fuel and oil.
An example of one of the curated interiors — Ascot — is a combination of Imperial Blue leather on the instrument panel, door trim and headlining and a light tan leather called Camel emphasizing the style of the seats. White micro-piping, embroidery and accent lines add a third color. Other options, such as Flare and Sirius, add bolder combinations, including Hotspur and Beluga or Linen and Brunel, both with a silver accent. The Mulliner Driving Specification is fitted as standard, bringing the “diamond-in-diamond” quilting to the seats and three-dimensional leather to the doors. The interior quilting involves an embroidery process that took 18 months to develop. Each diamond contains precisely 712 individual stitches — each one aligned to the exact center of the diamond it creates
The classic Bentley theme continues in the LED driver’s instrument panel, with stylish new and exclusive Mulliner graphics. The now-famous Bentley Rotating Display, sports pedals, heated duo-tone 3-spoke steering wheel and panoramic sunroof add to the luxurious ambience. Unique electrically operated picnic tables are mounted to the rear of the front seats and can be deployed with a single button press. The veneered tables feature a unique overlay with lower and self level to reveal a leather-trimmed surface with a recess for a pen or stylus.
Flying Spur Mulliner customers receive leather-bound keys in a handcrafted presentation box that matches the three-color cabin of their car. The two keys themselves are provided in similarly colormatched cases with contrast stitching.
The Flying Spur Mulliner is available with Bentley’s V8 and W12 powertrains and the new V6 hybrid. When equipped with Bentley’s 6.0-liter, twin-turbocharged W12, the car accelerates from 0-60 mph in 3.7 seconds and can reach a top speed of 207 mph (333 km/h). The new generation 4.0-liter, twin-turbocharged V8 delivers a top speed of 198 mph (318 km/h) and 0-60 mph in 4.0 seconds. The new V6 hybrid accelerates from 0-60 mph in 4.1 seconds (0-100 km/h in 4.3 seconds), with a top speed of 177 mph (285 km/h).

AMÉLIE BERTRAND
For French artist Amélie Bertrand, art is about studying the relationship between paint and the surface. Known for her vibrant use of colors and creating a visual universe of skewed perspectives, Bertrand blurs the lines between the natural and artificial in her work. “My work is a study of surface,” explains Bertrand. “Each painting is constructed using layers upon layers of digitally sourced materials — tiling, pebbles, plant motifs, artificial nature — which are first composed as small-scale digital works and then hand-drawn and painted onto the larger-scale canvas. Unlike a lot of paintings, there is only one single layer of painting itself in my completed works; the layers exist in the source material, not on the canvas.” A testament to her expertise in warping the dimension of color, her Artycapucines radiates bold colors and light.

DANIEL BUREN
Daniel Buren is one of the world’s leading contemporary artists. The French artist has explored the dynamic relationships between art and its physical and intellectual structures and our perception of light and space for the last six decades, with his work featured in over 3,000 exhibitions. His Artycapucines creation further investigates his study of space while also introducing his signature vertical stripe, which is now trademarked. “The subject of this work is not a specific space or precise environment, which [is] usually at the heart of all my work; rather, it’s a fixed object,” admits Buren. “The Capucines has a really simple design: a trapezoid as a base and the arc of a circle as a handle. Everything starts from there. My initial sketch was rather abstract, but the object’s function was still clear. By making the handle an exact semicircle and transferring it to the body of the bag itself, two shapes emerged: a trapezoid and a circle.”

PETER MARINO
New York-based architect Peter Marino is no stranger to the fashion industry, as his work globally reaches a vast range of sectors, including residential, cultural, hospitality, and major luxury fashion retail. In fact, Louis Vuitton also tapped Marino for its 200 Trunks, 200 Visionaries project, where artists interpreted the Louis Vuitton trunk for an exhibition. Marino is known for his minimalistic designs, graphic use of black and white to create light, and experimentation of textures, ultimately fusing the worlds of fashion, art, architecture, and interior design. In true Peter Marino style, his Artycapucines is a black monochromatic masterpiece with dynamic textures. He was inspired by a visit to a 14th-century building in Venice, Scuola Grande San Giovanni Evangelista: “One time when I was visiting, I noticed a medieval box near the monumental staircase designed by Italian architect Mauro Codussi,” he explains. “This box had straps and a medieval key. I was inspired by these elements, which I translated into this new Artycapucines bag.”

PARK SEO-BO
One of Korea’s most celebrated artists, Park SeoBo, is the founder of Dansaekhwa, a movement that began in the early 1970s and altered the course of Korean art with its ideas of the purposelessness of actions and the spiritual benefits of endless repetition. This profound philosophy echoes through his Artycapucines. “When I started using colors in my painting, I did so by searching for ‘natural color’ instead of ‘ideological color.’ One time, I was looking at a valley by Mount Bandai; the valley was aligned with the sun, so it appeared almost neon red. The color was so intense that it felt like I was looking at a flame chasing me to my death,” explains Seo-Bo. “That moment acted as a reminder that I’m only a tiny being in front of the vastness of nature. As the wind blew the clouds and the sunlight shone, one side of the valley remained neon red, while the other side became shaded and much darker. I thought I should paint this harmony of nature; my red painting came from this moment — from nature.”

Ugo Rondinone, a renowned Swiss artist, creates with intention, exploring the depths of the human condition and nature, and creating a wide range of two- and three-dimensional objects, installations, videos, and performances. Rondinone’s works often represent pressing issues in current history, where modernist achievement and archaic expression intersect. “[For the bag], I took two archetypal symbols I often use in my work: the clown and the rainbow. With its recognizable nonbinary character and outlandish costumes, distinctive makeup, colorful wigs, and exaggerated footwear, the clown is designed to entertain large audiences,” notes Rondinone. “In my work, though, I have turned it into a character who doesn’t entertain but instead just sits in contemplation. The rainbow is a communal archetype of unity and peace, while also referring to the gay-liberation movement.”

KENNEDY YANKO
For famed artist and sculptor Kennedy Yanko, her artistic niche is found in metal and paint skin, a material she makes by pouring large amounts of paint, letting it dry, and using the sheet-like form to create new sculptural compositions. Her modern works have led her to become the first sculptor in residence at the Rubell Museum in Miami. Working on this particular project with Louis Vuitton broadened Yanko’s artistic horizons. “When the Louis Vuitton team first came in, I shared an idea of what I wanted to do. The next time I saw them, they presented me with so many different options to choose from — it really expanded my mind of what this bag could be,” she explained. “Once we’d figured out the colors and style and how to create the bag itself, I was particularly interested in making something functional. I wanted a bag you could use at any event and with any outfit. For example, the handle comes off, and there’s a pouch underneath it, so you can slide your hand and then carry the bag as a clutch.”

How The Rahaminov Diamond Family Became The Celebrity Styling Staple.
B Y ANNA CATHERINE BLOCK
PHOTOS COURTESY OF YAMRON JEWELERS
RAHAMINOV, A LOS ANGELES-BASED FAMILY BUSINESS RUN by the original Rahaminov brothers’ children and grandchildren, blings out celebrities and never fails to ice out some of the hautest Hollywood stars. The exclusive high-end diamond company actively dresses Oscar red carpet go-ers such as Jennifer Lopez, who recently started sporting her 8.5 carat natural green diamond engagement ring by Rahaminov. Rahaminov has evolved from a family of diamond dealers to becoming the go-to jeweler for some of the world’s elite and biggest stars. Haute Living sat down with Laura Kendall, owner of Yamron Jewelers, for an exclusive interview, talking diamonds and memorable sales.
Haute Living: What sort of trends have you noticed in the industry that has set Rahaminov apart from other diamond brands?
Laura Kendall: Their new designs are considered more “innovative classics” than “trendy.” Trendy is short-lived; however, Rahaminov comes up with new designs that are very innovative yet still classic and will never fall out of style. A great example of this is the “triple threat” collection. I describe this as a more youthful, contemporary take on the classic Harry Winston cluster that has been in production for many, many years.
HL: What is the most memorable piece of Rahaminov that you’ve sold?
LK: We recently sold the most breathtaking graduated emerald cut diamond riviera necklace, which featured over 41.59 carats, D-F colorless, internally flawless emerald cut diamonds of the finest quality. The diamonds were horizontally set (east/west), which made it just that much more unique than your typical emerald-cut diamond necklace. Truly a spectacular piece.
HL: What do you know about the famously designed JLo green diamond engagement ring? Can you speak to your experience working with colored diamonds?
LK: Honestly, I don’t know much about it other than the fact that it’s probably stunning. I have worked with many types of colored diamonds. When you are getting into colored diamonds, this is typically with clients who have a grand collection of jewelry and are true collectors. Fancy-colored diamonds, especially the high-quality pinks, greens, blues, etc. - are very rare and, therefore, very highticket prices.
HL: What is one diamond staple you think everyone needs in their jewelry collection?
LK: Diamond stud earrings. They are something you can wear for any occasion, dressy or casual, out running errands, with only one exception: sleeping in them! This is a no, no.

Value and re putation in diamonds
Founder and Owner of the International Diamond Center, Keith Leclerc, brings his philanthropic family-owned business to Naples, Florida.
B Y ANNA CATHERINE BLOCK
THERE’S NOTHING QUITE AS DAZZLING AS DIAMONDS.
For the founder and owner of the International Diamond Center, Keith Leclerc, carrying bespoke pieces transcends beyond just the diamonds he carries. What started as a passion project of purchasing ready-to-sell diamonds to acquiring rough stones, all along paying cash upfront to secure his buying position. His enthusiasm for the industry made him successful because he owned cutting facilities in Franca, Brazil and Tel Aviv, Israel. This put Keith ahead of the game as he provided polished diamonds directly to some of the biggest names in the game, including Charles Wolf, Harry Winston, and Fabrikant.
Keith quickly became extremely knowledgeable by gaining a priceless understanding of what happens behind the scenes in the diamond industry and the business savvy to take anything to the next level. Keith opened the first International Diamond Center in Clearwater in 1990 with locations between Clearwater, Florida, and Savannah, Georgia, with its newest location in Naples.
Keith’s passion for the business is contagious. He thanks his family and team members for this success. IDC’s mission is to empower consumers while making the purchasing experience as romantic and exciting as it can be. “We always live by the motto, ‘To whom much is given, much is expected,’” This inspires Keith to give back to the community, especially groups and organizations that focus on the betterment of children. “I’m now preparing the next generation to take over the company,” he says. “Although I’ll be at it until I’m gone, I’m fortunate to have other passionate family members around me daily, learning the industry and business that I love.”
Brian Stamey, VP of Marketing and Operations, helped us understand why they chose Naples for their 11th location and what they hope to bring to the community. Being extremely philanthropic and involved in every community of each location, IDC works hard to integrate any and every type of charity component into their business. Naples is next to experience this family-owned business and how they give back.

THE NEXT MICHELIN STAR WORTHY EIGHT-COURSE EXPERIENCE
Good news for fans of Naples’ iconic Sails with head Chef Darren Veilleux: the lauded luxury restaurant has launched an elegant and abundant eight-course lite bites and wine pairing menu. Haute Living got an exclusive look.
BY ANNA CATHERINE BLOCK
Sails Restaurant, a Naples staple in the community with a treasured brunch experience, has recently launched an exciting new menu that features an eight-course dinner with exquisitely hand-selected wine pairings. The menu is comprised of bites from local seafood to wagyu tenderloin, including local fish Crudo, king crab, agnolotti, local farm egg, shark bay scallop, halibut, lobster, Little Joe and Wagyu all complemented by the seasonally inspired flavors in each dish. I’m calling it now – Sails will soon be the next Michelin star for Naples. I was able to sit down to get an exclusive taste. The ambiance on the patio is one of my favorite appeals to Sails, alongside indoor dining for a fashionable replication like a private members’ club. Always greeted by the owner Corinne Ryan, and her team, guests are able to enjoy the eclectic appeal of the establishment. Let’s dive in. The first course menu consists of a light and airy apple seafoam Crudo, which is paired with the Lhuillier Brut Champagne from France. Next, the second course, Alaskan king crab, is a crucial representative of Sails in the way that it is advanced yet acceptable. The crab mixes perfectly with a presented 2017 Cantina Cellaro, ‘Luma,’ Grillo Sicilia IGT from Italy. Delicious!
The third course, a sweet corn agnolotti pasta, was one of my favorite tastings. The agnolotti is filled with a Florida sweet corn puree and Florida littleneck clams finished with butter and chives. Wine pairing: Terra De Cuques, Terroir Al Limit Soc.Lda, Priorat from Spain.
Haute TRAVEL HAUTE LIVING NAPLES 98
PHOTOS COURTESY OF DAN CUTRONA
Small but mighty in the fourth course is a local farm egg. The egg yolk and white are removed from the shell in order to pierce the top of the egg. Seasoned with sea salt, olive oil, and chives, Chef Darren poaches the egg at 80c to achieve this soft poached egg yolk. Top the yolk with a truffle cream and place it on a bed of salt. This fragile egg is complemented with a 2014 La Grange de Quatre Sous, ‘Pays d’Oc’ from France.
The fifth course serves a Shark Bay scallop that is seared al a Planta and seasoned with lemon juice, olive oil and sea salt. The scallop is topped with a pistachio gremolata, served in shell, and garnished with nasturtium greens that add a bit of pepper notes to the dish that pairs perfectly with a 2017 Domaine Sick-Dreyer Riesling also from France.
Now for the choices. North Atlantic halibut coming off the waters of New England, Nova Scotia, and Canada makes for one of the sixth course dishes. Containing a white flesh and a large buttery flake results in a mild, rich, buttery flavor for this 2.5 oz portion which is finished tableside with a kombu broth. Lobster tail weighing in at 1.25 pounds is slowly poached in butter and seasoned with sea salt. Sitting on top of a cauliflower puree that is cooked with sweet onion and cream. Both are paired with a beautiful 2017 Bouchard Père & Fils, Beaune du Château, 1er Cru from France.
3 oz portions of Little Joe or Wagyu tenderloin create the ultimate addition to end the evening strong with seven courses. Paired with foie gras and black truffle, both options are grilled on the cherry wood grill until soft and caramelized and served with a French Baugier & Thunevin, Côtes du Roussillon Villages 06’. Voila!
Oh, and be sure to try both the Passion Fruit Souffle and the Chocolate Mouse to sweeten your evening. I’ll leave you with that anticipation.

M.C. ESCHER’S IMPRINT: REALITY AND ILLUSION
Naples Art Institute to lead a new, mind-bending exhibition of first hand 150 masterworks of one of the most brilliant artists of the 20th century.
BY ANNA CATHERINE BLOCK
Known for creating sophisticated exhibitions that fuse traditional and contemporary, Naples Art Institute has become an industry leader in the design and arts community. The Institute is currently showcasing Reality and Illusion, an exhibition that offers a rare and thrilling privilege of examining first-hand 150 masterworks of Maurits Cornelis Escher (1898-1972), one of the most brilliant artists of the 20th century.
Drawn from the largest private traveling Escher collection in the world, the exhibition includes early figure drawings, less-known book illustrations, detailed Italian landscapes, the “tessellations” for which he became famous, and several examples of his signature architectural fantasies in which stairways seem to go both up and down. The most iconic of these works, including a pair of hands drawing and fish morphing into birds, are familiar to most people.
“Following in the footsteps of our exhibition with selections from the William Louis-Dreyfus Foundation, Reality and Illusion features work by another autodidact and outsider artist with a unique vantage point. Like Hieronymus Bosch and Rene Magritte, Escher was an enigmatic and pioneering artist who boldly explored the world of mindbending, confounding, illusionary artwork that defies logic but is rooted in mathematics,” said Frank Verpoorten, the Executive Director and Chief Curator of Naples Art Institute. M.C. Escher used his work to challenge perspectives, deftly exploring the relationships between art and science, reality and illusion, chaos and order, and logic and absurdity.
“Are you really sure that a floor can’t also be a ceiling?” asked Escher. “Are you definitely convinced that you will be on a higher plane when you walk up a staircase?” Such musings led to “mind-bending” qualities in his spatial illusions and have lent his imagery an enduring place in pop culture iconography.
“As the lender of these M.C. Escher masterpieces, it gives me great joy to see them on display in Naples for the first time ever,” said Paul Firos, founder of the Herakleidon Museum in Athens, Greece. “I have long loved M.C. Escher for his attention to detail and mathematical principles. I look forward to sharing these Escher treasures at Naples Art Institute, and I hope guests are as fascinated as I am by the depth and beauty of the Escher experience.”
Reality and Illusion is on view at Naples Art Institute through February 12.

REFINED, TIMELESS, AND FRESH
B Y ANNA CATHERINE BLOCK
Haute Living: Being a mother-daughter duo, what do you love most about working together?
SBS Weddings & Events: We have always been extremely close as mom and daughter and are inherently best friends, so it just seems natural to work together and not so much “a job”. We both enjoy different aspects of the planning process and handle our respective responsibilities, so everything just clicks and runs seamlessly. While we have additional day-of assistants, we can’t imagine running this business without each other.
HL: How did you navigate your business and clients postHurricane Ian and its destruction to your venues?
Jacqui Resop: It’s so devastating to see the destruction done to some of our favorite venues throughout Southwest Florida. Some have recently reopened, while others may not open for at least another year or even more. There are still so many unknowns. We, personally,
were fortunate to never lose power or cell service, so I was able to remain in constant contact with our out-of-state clients, keeping them informed and updated throughout the storm and the days following. We had a wedding on October 8th that was supposed to be at the Ritz Carlton Beach Resort and within a matter of 5 days, we completely flipped the entire wedding to the Four Seasons in Orlando, which we had never even been to. We had to notify all vendors of the immediate change in plans and find new vendors in the Orlando area to service the wedding. There are so many logistics that go into a single wedding day, and I still can’t believe what the entire vendor team was able to accomplish in a matter of days and on such short notice. We had to do the same thing all over again just two weeks later for another 200+ person wedding.
We relocated a total of 9 weddings, half of which were between October – December and the other half are still upcoming in spring

of 2023. We just closed out our 2022 season in Rosemary Beach, which was a relocation from Boca Grande. We have a few others that are complete 360 transformations, going from a private club to a restaurant buyout; from an indoor venue to a tented beach wedding, etc. It’s essentially like planning two weddings in one because you have to completely redo the design based on logistics and the new venue - colors, aesthetic, size of space, and so on. It’s been quite challenging to say the least, but we’re extremely grateful to the vendors and venues who have been so accommodating through it all.
HL: What is the main foundation for your success at SBS Weddings and why?
Kathie Resop: I don’t think there is a single answer, but rather a culmination of things. We have always stayed in our own lane and true to ourselves. We treat our clients as if they are an extension of our own family, not just another business transaction. We pride ourselves on developing personalized relationships with our clients, which results in a level of trust and confidence. This is so key and allows us to create a uniquely curated event reflective of our couples’ personal styles, interests, and values.
We still keep in touch with prior clients from 10+ years ago and in fact, had so many reach out to check on us during the hurricane, making certain we were okay and asking how they could help the local community. We truly value their entire experience, not just the final outcome. The mother daughter relationship is also one of our strongest assets, since we are so relatable to other moms and brides who are planning a wedding together.
HL: What are your top 3 most popular wedding venues in SWFL?
SBS: LaPlaya Beach & Golf Resort, Ritz Carlton Beach Resort, and private golf and country clubs (Grey Oaks, Port Royal, Club Pelican Bay)
HL: How do you keep ahead of all the latest wedding trends?
JR: Social media mostly, but also constant reading and research,
listening to podcasts, and talking with other vendors in the industry. I feel that my design style is more timeless and refined, yet fresh. I do like incorporating some current trends in my designs and always take into consideration whether it has any longevity or fits into the overall aesthetic of the event. I never want to put a time stamp on a wedding, but rather create designs that transcend all seasons. Instagram is such a resourceful outlet for our industry in many ways, but I know how easy it is to go down the rabbit hole and get caught up in everything you see on social media. We often remind our couples that their wedding day is not just another birthday party that you get to do bigger and better every year, but rather a oncein-a-lifetime event. It’s so important to create an event that is truly authentic to themselves.
HL: How many weddings have you coordinated and what size were they?
SBS: Oh wow, probably a few hundred over the course of almost 14 years. We have coordinated everything from an intimate 20-person micro-wedding to a 350-person multi-day event. The main foundation of our business is weddings; however we do plan other events such as wine festival dinners, birthday parties, bridal and baby showers, and charity events.
HL: Would you say you are more interested in the décor details or the logistical management of the day?
KR: Logistical management, for sure. I am such an organizer in all aspects of life and feel that’s the key to any successful event. Without organization, there is chaos. I am the master of timelines and oversee all vendors on the wedding day. Jacqui is the lead designer and has full control of all décor on a wedding day. She is so meticulous and hyper-focused that I don’t even bother trying to fold a napkin because I know she will redo it! But that is why we work so well as a team because we both have separate strengths and are a well-oiled machine together.

OVER THE MOON, A ROMANTIC DREAM
B Y ANNA CATHERINE BLOCK
NOT EVERY GIRL FANTASIZES ABOUT THEIR WEDDING day, but when they do, it’s picture-perfect. From the gossip girl bachelorette party to saying the promising words of “I do”– the sequence of events is filled with all things beautiful, encapsulating just that, Over the Moon, A Romantic Dream.
In preparation for a bride’s big day comes immeasurable planning and, of course, finding a wedding dress to fit the location of choice. For most, a wedding is the essence of a dream day. Celebrity event planner Glenda Borden planned just that for her newly married daughter-in-law Breanne Bergstrom, who married Glenda’s youngest son in Laguna Beach at the Surf and Sand Resort off Pacific Coast Highway.
Countless hours went into the extensive planning of the bridal shower for Breanne. Glenda hosted Breanne’s bridal shower at her Hollywood Hills home, which she calls her haven with its sleek modern design and panoramic views of Los Angeles. Breanne’s
theme was Celestial Over the Moon. Glenda left no stone unturned. She chose luminous cream roses from South America, hydrangeas, and baby’s breath for the flowers. The food and drinks were just as delicate, catered by Eataly. Champagne flowed while photographer Amanda Barber captured this special celebration. Glenda would like to thank Noteworthy Occasions for their balloon and moon install.
For the big day, Kanoa & Wyld Photography capsulated the perfect evening for the special couple on their special day. Videography was done by LAD film and production showcasing the wedding in its entirety. Glenda would also like to thank Just Because Cookies for the delicious shower and wedding bites. Malibu beach shots and a gorgeous sunset created the utmost spectacular picture-perfect photo op for the bride and groom. The wedding party consisting of three bridesmaids and three groomsmen made for a perfect, intimate, and romantic wedding that was envisioned by the couple. With only 60 in total attendance, Glenda was able to bring in all these amazing aspects for Breanne’s special day!

NAPLES WAS ALWAYS HOME
The Resop Team takes a different approach to real estate, truly selling a lifestyle of family, philanthropy, the Naples community, clients’ dreams and beyond.
B Y ANNA CATHERINE BLOCK
WHEN IT COMES TO QUALITY OF LIFE, THERE ARE NOT MANY places that are going to offer you what Naples, Florida offers you. The weather is so great year-round, the school systems are incredible, and Naples is truly a safe community, which is why Chris and Kara Resop of The Resop Team love to sell real estate here in their lifelong city. Customer service is their utmost number one priority. They are always making sure their customer’s needs are met by taking a true boutique-style approach to their real estate business. With over 20 years of real estate experience here in SWFL, The Resop team consistently ranks among the top 1% nationally.
The Resop Team is confident in their ability to service their customers; they are here for their clients from start to finish and beyond. They love to hear their client’s stories and how they relate to one another. Getting to know their clients and their families is one of their top priorities. “It’s not a purchase; it’s an investment,” says Chris Resop. When you have a safe place, a true investment, a beautiful home, you will always feel secure and supported. The Resop Team encourages their clients to dream big. This encouragement helps put those dreams into motion. Achieving the best possible results with the greatest outcome are the keys to success at The Resop Team.
Additionally, it is extremely important to The Resop Team to give back to the community. They are actively involved with The
Immokalee Foundation, RCMA, The Boys and Girls Club, and St. Matthews House. Naples is known for its philanthropy, and this is something Chris and Kara stand by.
Haute Living: When it comes to your clients, what is your main goal when helping them buy or sell their homes?
The Resop Team: Our main goal is to offer boutique white glove service. We listen to our clients to understand exactly what they are looking to achieve. We make certain our clients are comfortable, trust our knowledge in the market, and ensure we always have their best interest in mind.
HL: Family comes first for you and your children. How do you balance your success and their schedules as a husband-wife team?
TRT: We try our best every day, and our children have a front-row seat watching us continue to grow and develop our brand, which is pretty cool but also comes with great responsibility. We are hands-on when it comes to both our parenting and our business, and we believe that’s how we come to be successful in both areas. The wonderful thing about real estate is we have flexibility in our schedule, and one of the perks of working together as a husband-and-wife team is one of us is always available so we know both our children and clients are in the very best hands. We strive to be the best version of ourselves for our children every day, and that’s something we’re proud of.

COASTAL CASUAL & COASTAL ELEGANT
Catching up on all things Knot + Tide with interior design leaders Hillary DiSabato & Chantal Warmoth.
B Y ANNA CATHERINE BLOCK
Haute Living: Can you tell us a bit about how you got started at K+T?
Knot & Tide: We worked together at a local design firm in town for a few years. Immediately, we recognized an instant connection that our styles and work ethic were very much cohesive. We value every customer with a level of extreme detail, and most importantly, we love to have fun! We never like to take ourselves too seriously. At the end of the day, we love our job and enjoy the day-to-day relationships we create from it. There was one day at our old company when we realized we couldn’t service our customers with all of the brands and vendors we wanted. We simply looked at each other and said, “Why don’t we offer our customers more?” We started talking about logistics over a Tuesday happy hour, and by the next week, we had created Knot + Tide Interiors. It sounds crazy that it happened so quickly, but I think we both knew we wanted to own our own business one day.
HL: Knot + Tide is setting a new standard in the interior design world. What aspects of building this brand are most unique? Chantal Warmoth: Knot + Tide Interiors is truly unique in the way that we have a hands-on approach to every project. Hillary and I
believe every customer should feel comfortable with the process, whether we are helping you build your new home or furnishing and styling your existing home – we want to get to know you and your family and create the perfect space that is both functional and aesthetically pleasing. We live in Southwest Florida, and so the overall design style of K+T is just that – coastal casual and coastal elegant. We focus on endlessly classic designs that will ebb and flow with your lifestyle.
HL: How do you balance the design side and business side of K+T?
Hillary DiSabato: It is a constant juggling act! Each aspect is just as important as the other, and it can be very difficult. But it’s making sure that we have the right people in the right places to help us with that!
HL: What elements of a design do you most like to create?
CW: We love to mix shape and texture throughout a home. Color aside, a home feels complete when patterns and textures come together; this creates a consistent feel throughout a space. Beyond color, texture and shape always play a role in balancing a space and making it feel cohesive. We often get asked why a customer’s home may not feel “complete” to them, and our answer is usually
HAUTE LIVING NAPLES 112 Haute DESIGN PHOTOS COURTESY OF KNOT & TIDE
+
because there is no consistency between spaces that make it feel inviting or comfortable. That’s where we come in with simple tips and tricks to help tie the spaces together.
HL: What design trends can we look forward to in 2023?
HD: Truthfully, we try not to design spaces that are so “trendy.” We most definitely stick to a look that is on brand and has more trend-forward elements, but our mindset is always to design timeless spaces. In K+T designs, the foundational pieces will always be timeless. The smaller accents, décor, and case goods can be a bit trendier. This just makes it so much easier and efficient to swap out when and if a customer wants to switch it up. However, with that being said, we are always aware of the current trends. After visiting High Point Market this year, we were slightly disappointed with the furniture trends. We are
seeing a BIG push in very round furniture with many shag fabrics and heavily textured bouclé fabrics. We can appreciate the trend, but it is not practical for our demographics in SWFL.
HL: Where do you see yourself and the brand in the next five years?
Knot + Tide: From day one of K+T being created, we have had the same vision for the company - make the design and shopping experience for our customers easier. What better way to do that than having our own showroom to see, touch and feel furniture and fabrics? As our small design firm grows, our vision is to maintain that same hands-on approach on the design side while opening our resources to the public on the retail side of the business. We pride ourselves in sourcing unique, quality pieces you can’t find shopping around Naples, and we want to share that with all of Southwest Florida!

NEW YORK CITY TO NAPLES, MEET ELIZABETH CINQUINI
B Y ANNA CATHERINE BLOCK WARDROBE STYLING ERIN PAPARELLA
Haute Living: Why Naples?
Elizabeth Cinquini: After 20 years in NYC (with positions in magazines, fashion, store design, visual merchandising and interior design) — I wanted and needed a life change — I moved to Naples in 2022 to live here full-time with my husband and kids. I love the energy here. It truly is living in paradise — and most importantly, I am bringing something new to Naples — my own distinctive style of interior design with Elizabeth Cinquini Interiors, creating peaceful, inspiring, elevated homes that bring happiness and excitement to my clients.
HL: What do you love about interior design and why?
EC: I’m a dreamer. Ever since I was a child, I have believed in pursuing your dreams no matter how big and unrealistic they may seem. I love creating interiors because I believe in dreamy
environments that are unique to the people living in them; I want to inspire and transport you to a truly magical place you never want to leave. Your home should rise up to greet you when you walk through the door, and it should feel personal to your life.
HL: What are you most passionate about when it comes to your creativity and the design process?
EC: I am so grateful that I have the freedom and creativity to design beautiful, unique homes through a vision that’s distinctively mine. You cannot teach someone how to be creative — it is something that is just in you — dreaming up interiors is like breathing to me; it comes very natural and easy. I absolutely love it. I treat my clients’ projects as if each one is my own home. I take it very personally. I’m fully invested in them by creating a home they love while keeping the process simple, fun, organized and as stress-free as possible.

It’s a mindset, it’s who you surround yourself with, it’s your living environment, your energy, it’s all related. Once you elevate your home, you elevate your life.
+
HL: What sets you apart from other Naples interior designers?
EC: I create unique home transformations that are authentic and curated just for my clients. I don’t want to do what everyone else is doing or have the same style. My design process infuses several different style types. To create my own version of timeless luxury, I incorporate a lot of colors, mixed metals, patterns and textures to develop interest and dimension. I want every room to be eye candy for the senses and have that subtle, unexpected “wow factor.” If you want white walls and white furniture, I’m not your designer because I find that to be boring. Also, space planning is super important to me — determining the exact placement size and scale of every detail and how they relate to each other is a huge part of my design process. Elizabeth Cinquini Interiors creates spaces designed to inspire and transport you to a place of creativity and peace.
HL: Coming from NYC, what type of clientele were you most focused on?
EC: I help busy professionals save time, money and stress by removing the overwhelming confusion that comes with the interior design process. I handle all the details, from space planning and design through construction to a completely furnished and decorated space. I do this so my clients can run
their own businesses and hectic schedules while I run their home design projects and bring their visions to life.
HL: Who is your ideal interior design client, and why?
EC: I love working with busy entrepreneurs and small business owners because they have an entrepreneurial mindset, they see the value in working with other creators, they value their time and other people’s time, they know how to make decisions and they invest in themselves and understand how important our living and working environments are to our happiness and productivity.
HL: What would you say is Elizabeth Cinquini Interiors’ mission?
EC: “Our mission is to create beautiful timeless interiors using color, pattern, texture and efficient space planning, while providing a stress free design experience. Your living space sets the tone for your entire life! The happier you are in your space, and the more functional it is for you - the more productivity you will have, and the more efficient you will be.”
Elevate your home.
Elevate your life.

BUBBA WATSON CELEBRATES HIS HAUTE LIVING NAPLES INAUGURAL COVER LAUNCH WITH BENTLEY OF NAPLES, YAMRON JEWELERS AND DANTE DISABATO.
HAUTE LIVING CELEBRATED AND LAUNCHED ITS NAPLES inaugural cover star Bubba Watson with an intimate celebration at Sails Restaurant in Naples on October 25th. The PGA and Master winning golfer, sweet tooth lover and philanthropist attended the soiree alongside his mother, Molly Watson, and his son, Caleb Watson. The evening was presented by Bentley of Naples, Yamron Jewelers and top leading real estate mogul Dante DiSabato. On top of a three-course menu, Chef Darren curated and created a one-of-a-kind dessert, ‘Bubba Watson’s funfetti cake.’ This was in honor of Bubba’s candy store, Bubba’s Sweet Spot. In the theme of the night, Naples saw major devastation from Hurricane Ian. Despite the devastation, the energy in the room was strong and positive. Owner of Haute Living Media Group, Seth Semilof, presented a $25,000 check that was raised earlier this month in partnership with The Macallan for the Global Empowerment Missions supporting devastation from Hurricane Ian. Bubba Watson invited guests to match a generous donation of 10k for the beautiful city of Naples. Collectively, Bubba Watson, Dante DiSabaton, Bentley Naples, and guests added an additional $28k totaling $53k in relief for the city of Naples. The philanthropic feeling of success filled the room as the Vice Mayor of Naples, Mike McCabe, was in attendance and expressed great gratitude to the guests for this impactful donation and evening.
