LA is home to one of America’s most vibrant and important artistic communities, and the LA Art Show is a major celebration of this essential community. The 2022 LA Art Show will be from January 19th-23rd at the Los Angeles Convention Center. Each year the show has grown in size and magnitude, and the 2022 iteration is sure to be a massive one. The LA Art Show does end eventually, but it is far from the only show in town. Let’s look at some of the other great components of the LA art scene that exist on a more permanent, year-round basis.

THE BROAD If you are a lover of contemporary and modern art, few places make for better visits than The Broad. The Broad is home to one of the best collections of modern art globally, situated in a beautifully designed building in downtown LA. Not only is it a great place to visit, but general admission also happens to be free, so it won’t cost you a dollar. The museum displays art from an extensive who’s-who of 20th and 21st-century creators. With big names like Andy Warhol, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Takashi Murakami, and Jeff Koons, it is a major museum that holds some gorgeous and significant works of art.

THE GETTY MUSEUM J. Paul Getty was an oilman and a magnate. He was, at one point, the richest man alive. He was known as a miserly man, particularly when it came to his family, but he wasn’t miserly with his collecting. He opened a museum in Brentwood, holding ancient works of art from across the world, and is complete with modern masterpieces. Today, the museum is commonly referred to as The Getty. It holds wonderful paintings, sculptures, and more, some works having been created thousands of years apart from one another. It has antiquities, relics, as well as modern paintings and installations. It is a large museum that holds the likes of Rembrandt, Manet, and Van Gogh within its walls.

L.A COUNTY MUSEUM OF ART The Los Angeles County Museum of Art, or LACMA, is located near the La Brea tar pits. It is an incredible museum with installations, modern art, and antiquities. It is one of the most well-rounded museums in the Los Angeles area, and its lamppost display is a top spot for Instagram pictures in a city filled with them. At LACMA, you can find works of art done by major icons like Pablo Picasso, Paul Cézanne, and Henri Matisse. While it primarily focuses on artwork from the past, there are tons of different displays ranging across centuries. It is a highquality, gorgeous museum that is beloved around the city.
