Artistic interpretations about the concept of Matriarchy in the Native American Community Ramirez is a certified descendant of the Saginaw Chippewa Tribe of Michigan. His mother was born in 1917 and was a full blood Saginaw Swan Creek Black River Chippewa. With his mother as an inspiration, Mr. Ramirez received his bachelor degree and a Masters in Fine Arts, both from the University of Michigan Art School. His career evolved into a very successful retail and consulting art business for the past 30 years and has won several awards across the country in prestigious art competitions. There is an Asian influence in Mike’s art work due to his love for the Orient Metal art sculptor whose work is unique and intuitive. All of his designs are original, and one of a kind creations. Mike uses bells as metaphors for life, passage of time, and a celebration of life. Ring the bell in the morning as a celebration of the day and ring the bell in the evening as a thank you for the day. Enjoy your journey… Mike’s distinct sculptures range in size from indoor entry way tabletop pieces to outdoor garden master pieces and all incorporate a ringable handcrafted bell in each sculpture. The use of stone and glass in his works connects our spirits to the journey of life. The distinct texture comes from a form of drip welding, a form of 4th generation blacksmithing that Mike was taught through a yearlong internship in Germany.

Epic poetry within the visual. His word collages are created by combining thousands of cutouts of written text all pertaining to a particular theme. He scours through hundreds of high quality magazines searching for colors, words, and phrases. Every detail in the collage is an individual cut out. Nothing is painted on or manipulated with a computer. Everything is cut out by hand with an x-acto knife. The end result is a distinctive form of artwork in which you can see something different every time you look at it. His works are a green art. All the materials come from donated magazines. “People would rather donate the magazines to me than have them go to a land fill. It gives the magazines a second life.”- Curtner explains. All his figures in the artwork are faceless. This allows for a broader interpretation. People can put themselves in the pieces, or people they know.
