The Charleston Boat Show is a massive boating showcase in one of South Carolina’s most scenic cities. This late January event features a plethora of sales and displays of boats, equipment, and boating lifestyle material.
Grand Strand Boat and Sportsman Expo is a huge event occurring near the start of the New Year at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center. It features a stacked lineup of boats, fishing gear, water sports equipment, and more. Visitors can browse deals and talk with boating experts to prepare for the Grand Strand’s boating season.
Important South Carolina Boating Laws
Boating in South Carolina is not a free-for-all, and certain laws will dictate how to get onto the water. Some of the basic rules to know are age and licensing restrictions. Any boater under 16 must complete a boating safety course, carry a South Carolina boating license, and be accompanied by an adult to operate a motorized vessel.
These boating laws are enforced by the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources (SCDNR). All boats on waters throughout the state must have personal flotation devices for each person on board, and boaters under 16 must wear them when in the cockpit or on deck. Flares are mandatory for boats in coastal waters, and navigation lights need to be on from sunset to sunrise.
It is important to obey speed limits, which are imposed differently in waters throughout the state. Generally, boats can’t be going past idle speed when near wharves, docks, or people in the water.
