A vibrant city located in the Arizona desert, Phoenix offers great views, popular restaurants, and a mild winter climate. Although many people flock to the area in order to experience amazing hiking and a bustling downtown, the city has another side to it that not many people are aware of: an incredible up-andcoming arts scene. A visit to Roosevelt Row, Phoenix’s walkable arts district, will provide you with art galleries, restaurants, bars, and boutiques. The area is located on a gorgeous street surrounded by colorful art and a lively atmosphere. On the First Friday of every month, you can catch their First Fridays Art Walk, one of the nation’s largest, self-guided art walks. Here, you can tour more than 70 art galleries, venues, and other spaces to see a plethora of artwork and enjoy all that the city has to offer. There are free shuttles that circulate through the city, making the event easy to access and explore. Food trucks line the street and the event has an outdoor market-type feel to it. Roosevelt Row is also home to the annual M3F Music Festival, a 100% nonprofit festival that features big-name artists such as Kid Cudi, Lukas Nelson, and others. You can also find an exciting mix of bars, restaurants, and breweries. While exploring, you will find street art on every corner, many being eccentric and sprawling murals painted by local artists. Make sure not to leave without visiting some of the funky art galleries and boutiques where you can find local handmade goods and unique pieces of art.


Perhaps one of the most exciting Phoenix events to happen is the Phoenix Festival Of The Arts, happening December 11th and 12th. Featuring more than 150 art vendors, it is the perfect place to experience arts and culture for the whole family. Their website states that the event is an annual celebration of local arts and culture and serves to stimulate both the economic and cultural growth of the city while encouraging people to explore the artistic surroundings around them. There will be live music by local bands alongside other acts such as circus performances, dance routines, poetry, chorus groups, and many others. One of the most popular exhibits is the interactive art activities suitable for both adults and children. The free event is dog-friendly and has culinary stations throughout as well as beer and wine available. The art available ranges from ceramics to handmade jewellery to photography, and everything in between. From an unbelievably vibrant downtown arts district to a large annual festival, Phoenix is proving that its art scene is one to be watched. With a huge sense of pride in their local artists and art galleries, the large city gives a very small town feel when it comes to their artwork community. Walking through Roosevelt Row will allow you to see the art murals painted by local artists and explore the Phoenix culinary scene in an intimate way. A visit to the Phoenix Festival Of The Arts gives you an up-close and personal experience with the artists themselves and provides for a day of fun with the entire family. This exciting desert city is definitely one that every art lover, food connoisseur, and art gallery enthusiast should visit at least once!

AKNIGHTGLASS Beginning with my first box of Crayola crayons I have always been drawn to color. Each piece is made individually. Two foot sheets of compatible glass are cut by hand, shaped, layered with design elements and fired in a kiln. Once cooled the piece might be placed back into the kiln on a ceramic mold and fired another time or two.

AKHenry Fine Arts I would describe myself as an interdisciplinary commission artist and private art teacher. I specialize in oil portrait commissions and palette knife acrylic paintings. I am a former Laguna Beach gallery owner and artist who relocated from Southern California to Salt Lake City in 2011 to take care of my mother who was suffering from breast cancer (her death inspired my favorite portrait). Ryan James Fine Art After a career in design, in 2012 I began doing art shows in Las Vegas. In 2017 I started to venture on the road, doing shows in Utah, Nevada, Arizona and California. I create original compositions, painted in all acrylics. For the last year or so I’ve been inspired to create “fantasy” type landscape worlds, loosely tied to movie or popular media genres. Scott Swezy Scott Swezy came to New Mexico in 1974 to study art at the University of New Mexico. Having grown up on the east coast, the contrast could not be more striking when confronted with the open spaces of the desert, the majesty of the mountains and the spectacular sunsets. His work was instantly influenced by this landscape and after school he travelled extensively throughout New Mexico, Arizona, and southern Utah sketching and painting along the way. Recently Scott has begun working with some select galleries, and has again returned to the landscape which was the source of his inspiration on his initial journey west. These new works are done using soft pastel, a medium perfect for reflecting the rich, brilliant colors of the desert southwest. Working on heavy paper or board he applies a special "sanded" paint which creates a rough surface on which to draw.

Our Beautiful World Art and Photography Stephanie Anderson, owner of Our Beautiful World Art & Photography, has been painting for over 20 years. She has a B.S. in Geology from ASU and uses her love for nature as inspiration for her art. She specializes in landscapes with oils but also enjoys painting acrylic flow and landscape photography. Daniel Ramirez Daniel Ramirez is born on June 1st 1953 and is a certified descendant of the Saginaw Chippewa Tribe of Michigan. His mother was born in 1917 and was a full blood Saginaw Swan Creek Black River Chippewa. With his mother as an inspiration, Mr. Ramirez received his bachelor degree and a Masters in Fine Arts, both from the University of Michigan Art School. His career evolved into a very successful retail and consulting art business for the past 30 years and has won several awards across the country in prestigious art competitions. He has also been well recognized for his work in watercolors and acrylics and for his drawings in charcoal and pastels.

Suzy Arner I am born and raised in California. As I create, I pray; for the ones I love, for the ones that see what I create and the ones who purchase. Californians Heading To Southwest States At A Stunning Pace

alifornia is known for amazing year-round weather, gorgeous beaches, and a

plethora of dining options and things to do. It is the 3rd largest state in the United States and has the largest population in the entire country. However, over the past year, a record number of people have been leaving the state and moving elsewhere. Perhaps the Covid-19 pandemic is to blame or possibly the rising housing market, either way, one thing is clear, California residents are moving out of the state at a startling rate. Between January 2020 and January 2021, California lost more than 180,000 residents, and it was the first yearly loss ever recorded for the state. Experts say one reason for the steep decline is the rising housing market. Currently, the typical California home value is $717,000, which has increased over 20% in the past year and is second highest in the US next to Hawaii. California also has one of the highest costs of living, especially in cities such as Los Angeles and San Francisco. The state also has some of the highest gasoline prices in the country. The rising cost of living coupled with the record-breaking nationwide real estate prices have many Californians moving to southwest states. Texas has perhaps seen the most increase in people moving to the state from California with a growth of almost 16% over the last decade. Many major companies such as Hewlett Packard and Tesla have moved their headquarters to the state and thus seen a crowd of people moving for the job opportunities that Texas now has. Some people have also chosen the state for the lower cost of living and the affordable housing market where you can get a larger house for less money. The median home price in Texas is half of what it is in California, making the state a desirable place for those wanting to purchase a home. Texas also has no income tax and lower taxes overall compared to California which has the most taxes at state and local levels than any other state in the country. Currently, the city of Houston has seen the highest number of California residents relocate followed by Dallas and Austin.


The lower cost of living and the more affordable housing market is another reason why states such as Arizona and Nevada have seen large inbounds of California residents moving to the area. These states have similar geography and climate to California, however offer a lower cost of living and lower taxes, making it an appealing place to move to. This combined with the fact that, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, many people are now able to work from home, makes moving out of the state a financially sound option for many. People are choosing to leave California for a number of reasons, many pointing to an unrealistic housing market and extremely high cost of living. Many major corporations and Silicon Valley companies have left the state of California for those such as Texas, with a large number of people following for job opportunities, lower taxes, and a more affordable housing market. The past year has many people permanently working from home allowing them the option to decide where they want to settle down at. All this combined has shown a mass exodus of people leaving the state of California, and experts say the trend doesn’t show a sign of slowing down anytime soon.
