This summer, the long-running Lake Oswego Festival of the Arts is returning to the Lakewood Center of the Arts and George Rogers Park in Lake Oswego, a Portland suburb. This 60th-anniversary celebration will bring food, music, and plenty of art to large crowds of visitors.
The first Lake Oswego Festival of the Arts was in 1963, intended to be an event centered around art education that inspires a love for visual and performance art. The festival has rapidly grown into an important community event that brings in thousands for three days of nonstop fun. This year, the festival will be held from June 23rd-25th and is free to attend.
The event is a must for art enthusiasts, as it has works from over 100 artists from around the region and the U.S. This year’s theme is pop art, so you can expect to see some fascinating takes on the medium. The Lakewood Center of the Arts will be home to most of the exhibitions, including pop art installations, a pop art retrospective on the work of Dr. Phyllis Yes, and a large, juried exhibition of featured artists.
At George Rogers Park, you can enjoy a large art show featuring over 100 artists displaying their juried works outdoors and get to know the artists behind the pieces. There will also be a large open
show where you can browse and purchase a vast array of different pieces from talented artists displaying their works in the Renaissance Homes Pavillion Tent.
The festival also celebrates performing arts, and you can expect to hear music wherever you are at the event. Talented musicians will play throughout the weekend at George Rogers Park and the Lakewood Center of the Arts. There will also be performances from the Missoula Children’s Theatre, the biggest touring theatre in the country.
The festival will bring an array of activities for people of all ages. For those over 21, the Drink and Draw event is an opportunity to sip some tasty beverages and try your hand at caricature drawing with the help of an experienced artist. Children will love the many youth events the festival offers, including drawing lessons, the chance to learn to work with clay, and even a children’s parade.
The Lake Oswego Festival of the Arts will also have delicious dining options. Most of the event’s food will be at George Rogers Park, where food trucks will serve an array of tasty options. You can enjoy delicious, deep-fried festival fare, African cuisine, street tacos, gyros, and much more. Beverages will be available at the Lakewood Center of the Arts and George Rogers Park.
