The Architecture + the City Festival is a series of events, tours, and discussions designed to spotlight the great history and innovation of San Francisco’s design. This will be the festival’s 19th year and it will take place over the course of two weeks. The festival kicks off on September 12th and runs until September 23rd. It will be jampacked with fun behind-the-scenes insight into the great architecture of one of America’s proudest cities.

Architecture + The City Festival Returning To The Bay Area

The festival aims to spark a public dialogue about architecture and design and ignite residents’ passion for their city. There have been several branch-off festivals similar to this one, and the general idea is to encourage people to engage with and experience the architecture of their city. In a place like San Francisco, with a long and unique history and a recognizable style, there is so much that attendees can learn.

Many cities across America are famed for their architecture and design. From the stately look of Washington to the mid-century modern influences that define Palm Springs, every city in the United States has a unique style. One of the cities most famed for its architectural accomplishments is San Francisco, whose hilly streets and Victorian homes are recognized worldwide. One upcoming event in San Francisco is set to celebrate the great architectural legacy of the Bay Area: the Architecture + the City Festival.

There will be costs for certain events and tours, with all proceeds benefitting the foundations running this event. But for behind-the-scenes access to some of the best spots in the city and insightful expert opinions, the costs are all very reasonable.

The festival is hosted by the Center for Architecture + Design in conjunction with the American Institute of Architects San Francisco. These two organizations have substantial knowledge of the city’s history and design and the connection to bring top experts to host events and lead conversations. They combine to create the biggest annual celebration of design and architecture in San Francisco.

There are a wide variety of events on the calendar for this year’s festival, including panel discussions and conversations with experts specializing in architecture, sustainability, and/or the environment. The festival also offers neighborhood, affordable housing, building and studio tours. On September 21st, you can attend A Look at the Latest Design Trends: Sustainability, Innovation, & Emotion, featuring renowned Italian textile and furniture designers. Or, you can join the “Livable Density” Bike Tour, which passes through three mixed-use developments with David Baker Architects on September 14th.
