NEW CHAMBER PRESIDENT
The Board of Directors of the Winter Haven Chamber of Commerce announced that Betsy Cleveland, IOM, has been selected to serve as the organization’s President & CEO. “The chamber conducted a nationwide search and received over 45 applications. We were thrilled that the ideal candidate was someone in Polk County who already knows and loves the Winter Haven community,” stated Nick Plott, Search Committee Chair and Chamber Board Chair-Elect. Betsy served as the Executive Director of the Haines City Area Chamber of Commerce (now the Northeast Polk Chamber), the Director of Community Services for the Polk County Supervisor of Elections, a Community Liaison Director for the Polk County Public Schools, and a District Legislative Aide for State Senator JD Alexander.

Join the City of Winter Haven on Wednesday, September 11 at 5:30 pm in South Central Park as they come together to honor the lives lost and the heroes who emerged from that day in 2001. Honoring Our Heroes, Remembering the Day pays tribute to all fallen military, law enforcement, fire, and EMS personnel, those who continue to serve, and those who have retired. Registration begins at 4:30 pm for the Freedom Walk. The Walk begins at 5:30 pm, and a closing ceremony by candlelight begins at 6 pm. Agencies will have equipment on display prior to the event. SENSORY GARDEN
The Friends of the Library Sensory Garden at the Winter Haven Public Library was created for the wellbeing, learning, and coping needs of children and adults with autism, sensory impairments, Alzheimer’s, and dementia. The garden includes a multi-purpose programming space that will allow users to experiment with and manipulate natural materials, focus attention on sensory experiences, participate in activities that enhance physical wellness, balance, coordination, and engage in calming and relaxing activities. The Seven Rivers Water Festival is brought to you by The City of Winter Haven, Polk County Utilities, and The City of Lakeland. All municipalities, organizations, and vendors are invited to help cooperatively present methods of conserving our water supply while lessening environmental impact through responsible water use and environmental awareness. POLK EDU FOUNDATION
The Polk Education Foundation announced that a new senior director has been chosen to guide the local nonprofit’s charitable efforts supporting public school students and teachers. Tracy Porter said she is humbled to be selected as the foundation’s new leader, and excited to serve the community. “It is an absolute honor to follow in the footsteps of longtime Executive Director Susan Copeland, who made such a profound positive impact on countless lives,” said Porter. “It will be a privilege to work alongside the Foundation board and team, and everyone associated with Polk County Public Schools, to do everything in our power to help the system succeed.”
