Number Nerds Add Up to One Hundred

Juan Puga Reporter LQHS’ Theater and B.E.S.T Productions held its annual spring musical, Number Nerds: The Almost AllGirl Math Challenge, on April 27-29 and May 3-5 with two different main casts. The Broadway-inspired comedy follows the “Number Nerds,” a math team at Waukesha Charter High School who try to redeem themselves after a regional competition prevented them from competing at state. Ms. Weiss, director of the theater program, perfectly captured the intended message to show young women

Passionate Poet Produces Perfect Poem

Emily Martinez Reporter The 18th annual LQHS Poet Laureate Contest has come and gone and freshman Drew Patterson has been crowned this year’s Poet Laureate. A luncheon was held on Thursday, April 27 for the finalists and their invited guest. A local writer also addressed the students with an encouraging talk about continuing to write in the future because it is a great way to connect with others. They were encouraged to read poems and enjoy pizza with their friends and fellow poets. Finally, Patterson was announced as this year’s Poet Laureate. “[I w r i t e ] whenever I find something to write about. I find myself just writing out poetry or just any thoughts I have on paper because that’s what I’m best at,” he

commented. “I didn’t think I was going to win at all; it felt amazing when I did.” He smiled as he stated, “I want to be an engineer. I will definitely keep writing, but I would mostly do that on the sides.” Here’s his winning poem inspired by his passion for writing: To some writing is special, Maybe as a hobby or a crutch, Something therapeutic, Or something that’s a must. Maybe it is a weapon, Or magic of some kind, Or possibly just as a way, To empty out your mind.

The meaning may differ, From person to individual, Being anything from a wonder, To something they find dull.

But what is most important, When all is said and done, Is that you’ve made something you’re proud of, And that you have had fun.
