EDUCATORIUM Located on the Texas A&M Campus, the Educatorium is expected to turn over 2,000 students every 30 min. With a program that includes 2 auditoriums and 16 classrooms circulation became a main priority. Internally, the building is comprised of a symmetrically terraced interior that offers a relationship between every floor as well as easy way-finding towards a central circulatory substructure. Externally, the building is comprised of a juxtaposed, asymmetrical staircase that provides circulation with access on every level and panoramic gathering spaces. Advancing the site, context, and surrounding conditions a thorough analysis was conducted. As a result, the site was reconfigured to distinguish pedestrian and vehicular circulation and maintain the integrity of the projects linear elements. The educatorium design utilizes the asymmetrical wrapping staircase as an informal shading structure, allowing the lower half of the building to feel light while the upper half of the building uses vertical fins to feel dense and shade the interior to reduce the overall r-value. As an integrated studio, structure and systems are explored. KNOTTING LINES Located in Houston, Texas. The Menil Campus is a collection of art museums unified by the color Menil Grey. Menil Grey is a thematic application of aesthetic and mood within the Menil Campus. Knotting Lines deploys different forms of lines as decorative and structural devices that twist, knot, and pierce to construct an art museum on campus. The site is comprised of the existing Richmond building and the proposed Knotting Lines building. Knotting lines embodies both the Mirror Building which houses the formal gallery spaces and the Corridor which encapsulates an interactive sculpture. The Mirror Building acts as a counter weight that supports the Corridor latching on and circulating beyond the confines of the Mirror Building. Rather than solely housing art, Knotting Lines stands as a visual and sensory spectacle, through the use of the Corridor.

INFORMAL STUDIO Contrary to the historical hierarchy of ballet, this ballet studio provides accessibility for all. Rooted in the Austin, Texas community, the studio incorporates a park for gathering. Heavily fortified with local stone, the ballet studio creates a barrier between the noisy road and the serene park. The park delivers a dialogue between the formal performers and the informal community. A large porch links the studio and the park; the porch arranges views into the theater and studios for spectating. Movable seats are supplied as an invitation to stay and rearrange gathering around dances taking place. Guided by candid moments and encounters, visitors are invited by a walking trail that pierces through the building. The trail wraps around the park’s perimeter in a horseshoe layout to direct views inwards towards the studio. With varying proximity to the studio, the trail has benches for a diverse range of engagement. For the dancer’s development, the theater and studios are elevated like a stage, and the patio, park, and trail supply a constant audience.

LAMENTATION SEPULCHER As a sepulcher—”a monument in which a dead person is laid or buried”—for Martha Graham’s dance “Lamentation,” this sculptural seat encapsulates poses beneath the veil. The seat uses the veil to symbolize hiding from grief juxtaposed by bodily strain that agony elicits. Postures are deliberately arrayed in the composition to archive the wide range of physical expressions and to avoid interference with the dancer. While the hands and feet remain, relating to humanity, the poses are stripped of their identity with the removal of faces to offer introspection for the viewer. The hollowness of the seat represents the material of a veil as well as a soul’s emptiness during lamenting. Color, as iridescent, romanticizes a connection between two colors: black symbolizing grief and purple relating to the dancer’s veil. Drawing from the typology of the dance, the sculptural bench seeks to provide a personal connection with viewers. As a fast-paced exercise, The Lamentation Sepulcher was conceived and completed in a two-week timespan.

INTERSTITIAL EXPANSION Interstitial Expansion project creates a progressive urban planning solution. It strives to reintegrate lower & middle-class citizens back into Brazil’s central hub of Sao Paulo. The site (Avenida Paulista) consists of a large plaza that yields a transition from the ground to the housing complex above. Two primary cores are implemented to provide: minimal impact on the urban space at ground level, optimal emphasis on the retail space below ground, and ideal circulation to the housing complex above. The design of the underground pathways utilizes a void space between the two primary cores. The recessed condition creates a variety of retail experiences, community interaction, and easy access to parking from Avenida Paulista. The structural elements of this project not only encompass primary, but secondary cores that further support the structure and horizontal elements attached to the cores, providing easy access to all twenty-six floors and each unit.

PROFESSIONAL WORK Re:Build is a competition project that seeks to envision a medical clinic of the future. The Re:Build project is a full-service surgical facility that provides patients the option to rebuild their bodies, lives and well-being. The center incorporates technology such as robotics, 3d-printing software, body scanning and augmented reality that are partnered with one-stop surgical and rehabilitation services. My Responsibilities: • Fully in charge of the rendering process. The task was unusual as there was a minimal software model. Instead, I was given a library of inspirational imagery to compile for each render. 2D imagery was applied through the use of Photoshop and Illustrator to represent a 3D space as a collage.

PROFESSIONAL WORK Design Culture Series (DCS) is an HKS presentation on how software has transformed the creative industry. My Responsibilities: • Graphic Designer, Researcher, and Speaker • Investigated how the introduction of Photoshop altered jersey designs in the NBA. To engage the HKS audience, I Photoshopped three iconic NBA players wearing HKS-themed jerseys with HKS branding that represented the different jersey design eras. • Utilized Photoshop and Illustrator to produce a DCS poster for branding.

Art & Photography Art: Art is a driving force for architectural inspiration, but it is also a multifaceted expression I have explored beyond architecture. Art influences the way I see the world; I particularly enjoy documenting my travels with a sketchpad or canvas in hand. With this passion, I enjoy the investigation of numerous types of mediums.
Art | Fall 2017-Current | Oil Paint, Water Color, Colored Pencils, Pastels, Ink Pens, Markers, Graphite Pencils
Photography: Similar to art, photography influences my architectural aspirations. Photography allows me to study the built environment and nature through a creative lens. The discipline of framing shots with specific proportions, angles, and lighting encourages the way I design spaces and visually render architectural projects.
