In the last decade PJ Crook has had exhibitions in the United States, Canada, France, Japan, Estonia and the UK. Commissions have taken her to Japan and Saudi Arabia to study the people and cultures for a series of fifteen large canvases that she completed in her Gloucestershire studios. She is currently working on a large commission for Gloucestershire College measuring 2 x 4.5 metres. Last year she also painted a whole string quartet of instruments for the Cheltenham International Music Festival which will be auctioned later in the year towards the new Creative Arts Centre at the National Star College of which she is College Patron. Next year she shows in New York at the ACA Galleries. PJ Crook’s work is always concerned with people - the human condition; often its dilemma in the urban environment. Her crowded newspaper compositions she sees as ‘history paintings’ reflecting the current state of affairs eitherlocally, nationally or internationally. She has been working on the series since 1988, during which time she has also observed great change in the formats. Broadsheets that are now tabloids; changing mastheads and the introduction of more colour.
