FAYEZ BARAKAT
STANISLAV PLUTENKO STANISLAV PLUTENKO ZOE BENBOW
Famed for being one of the world’s leading antiques dealers in his field, with galleries in Abu Dhabi, London & LA; he is still relatively unknown as an artist, although he has built a significant collection of works and a large following of collectors to match over a period of over thirty years. Now is the time when the scale shifts, from famed antiques dealer to famed artist. Privately and very prolifically Barakat has produced an astounding collection of artworks, from locations as diverse as Jordan, North America and the United Arab Emirates. “It is my belief that feelings, sensations, thoughts expectations and dreams are frequencies that respond to colours, shape and forms that are embedded in our subconscious minds.” Fayez Barakat. On first glance these powerful abstract expressions could draw influence from American Expressionist such as Jackson Pollack or Willem de Kooning, collectively Barakat’s works are as accomplished. Fayez Barakat takes our principled understanding of abstraction and challenges its very foundations; unsettling our senses whilst positively igniting our imaginations. Barakat’s abstractions are wholly unique, developing an amalgamation of techniques and styles so each artwork is completely individual. They have their own language and they are born of visions and drives and compulsions within him that Fayez Barakat does not wholly understand.
