A year ago I finally decided to hop off the bus to the trail scattered with sunshine that pointed toward Putney Heath and Wimbledon Commons. I spent a day immersing myself in the space. Walking, drawing, writing, listening, feeling and remembering, I was healed.

It was an unfamiliar site between two of my familiar places: where I study/live and where I work. For an entire year, what I saw outside through the bus windows has been a relief for my weekly long travel from White City to Kingston.

‘How lucky we are to have this green space.’ I whispered.

This year, I revisit the space and deeply understand the relationship of humans with ecology in the urban environment.

I am interested in the conservation of the heathland and its environmental significance. As an illustrator, wanting to pass on the stories and messages to every Commons user, I become part of the action and volunteer with people in the community.

Because I saw a dog owner letting his dog David jump over the dead hedge we built last week to swim in the protected wildlife pond. I tried my best to explain why they shouldn’t have done that, but they still looked really disappointed.

And then I start thinking,
