PETER SHARP WOOD QUARRY

Peter Sharp works across drawing, painting, printmaking and sculpture. As an artist, he is interested in the order of the natural world, thinking about and exploring nature and its systems to generate unexpected outcomes.

Wood Quarry is an on-site residency in the Hazelhurst Gardens, where the artist has been developing experimental works in an outdoor studio between October 2022 and May 2023. The works are made from large pieces of fallen timber that have been salvaged from the local area.

Throughout the residency visitors had the opportunity to see Sharp working with chainsaws and other tools to carve and construct freestanding sculptures, pushing the boundaries of his practice while responding to the site and materials.

Large freestanding sculptures from the residency will be on display in the Hazelhurst eastern courtyard from 1 June 2023.
