HOW OUR INDUSTRY CAN BE MORE EFFECTIVE IN REPRESENTING YOU
O
ur BIA is known around the country as one of the more effective associations Brian Miller that represent the construction Executive Vice Presifdent industry. It is true that we enjoy many elected bmiller@buildersnky.com officials that share the same vision we do for Northern Kentucky. It is a fact that it takes dollars to make political campaigns work and it takes political campaigns for elected officials to win office and gain support from the voting public. That means that those that our small business friendly elected officials need our help in ensuring they can make their case to the public in hopes that they legislate with a small business value-oriented mindset once elected. That means we need your support to help support them. We have a great way to amass your efforts together and make a real difference in the political world. The Political Housing Club of Northern Kentucky is a political action committee registered with the Kentucky Registry of Election Finance. There are only four such statewide PAC’s in Kentucky. When we donate to a candidate in a statewide race the state association’s PAC either matches that contribution or like in this year’s cycle goes above and beyond to multiply the support we give good business friendly candidates. Our PAC Night is Thursday November 6th, the same night as the next election. It is a great time for all that come out. It will be held at New Riff Distillery. This is a great opportunity to meet builder members of the association as advocacy and political action are tops on their priorities for the association. A ticket is $100 and enters you in the pool to possibly win $2,000 that night. There is a lot of excitement with a reverse raffle for the cash prize. A $300 contribution comes with voting rights on the PAC. $500 or $1,000 contributions open you up to a world of perks and plusses at the BIA where you can attend some special functions just for the upper level of our contributors. Theodore Roosevelt was quoted to say, “Every man owes a part of his time and money to the business or industry in which he is engaged. No man has a moral right to withhold his support from an organization that is striving to improve conditions within his sphere." I can think of no better example of where this is truer than in the endeavor of our Political Action Committee. Our PAC has been the largest and most successful business-related PAC’s in Northern Kentucky. Help make sure it stays that way with a generous contribution that in the end pays off for you and your business. All contributions must be made in the form of a personal check or Credit Card payment. Thank you in advance for supporting our political action initiatives and helping us to help you have a more business friendly Northern Kentucky.

HONK CORNER
Have you been watching our progress on The Legacy House project? Some materials and fixtures are still needed as well as craftsmen (and women) to complete the house. There are many opportunities to contribute to the final touches. Check it all out at www.buildersnky.com or www.honkhomes.org/legacyhouse. HONK has other volunteer opportunities for individuals and groups (Saturday’s are some busy days). We have completed the rehab of a 6 room, 3 bedroom, 1½ bath in Covington and have started rehabbing 2 more houses, also in Covington. We have also been blessed with the donation of a 3 bedroom 2 bath house from the Sisters of Notre Dame. This house is in move-in condition after we do some minor foundation repair. Remember, we are a lease-to-own program and work closely with our families to achieve home ownership. Please don’t hesitate to refer interested families to our web site for more information. 6

The “Northern Kentucky Regional Construction Partnership” is a career pathway that begins with introduction to trades programming, Area Technology Centers, through evening post-secondary apprenticeship style trades training. The BIA’s Enzweiler Building Institute and Gateway Community and Technical College have created articulation agreements that would allow institute graduates to earn college credit due to the partnership. The partnership addresses seven trades and provides dual credit between Area Technology Centers and the BIA’s Enzweiler Building Institute, as well as between the Institute and Gateway.
he Enzweiler Building Institute has won the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) Association Excellence Award for Best Workforce Development Plan Implemented for their Northern Kentucky Regional Construction Partnership Plan; a grant recipient of the Kentucky Work Ready Skills Initiative. country 9in construction trades training. To say that we stand heads and shoulders above our peers is a sever understatement. We have won this award six of the last nine years. What people don’t know is that the criteria of the awards state you cannot win this without substantial changes to your program but once every three years. That is just one indication of how we have innovated workforce development training in our short time here. We are blessed with so many outstanding trades people to help train our incoming professionals, leaders that support our efforts, public education partners, community leaders and an energetic and tireless staff team that believe in our mission to provide the next generation of construction trade professionals, For that we are eternally grateful,” said Brian Miller, executive vice president of the BIA. $2.69 million in funding from the Kentucky Work Ready Skills Initiative will go to expand and
provide building alterations and updated technology to the Institute’s Boone County Campus located in the Circleport Office Park. A second campus will be updated at the former Alexandria Elementary school in Campbell County on Orchard Lane. The Campbell Campus will house introduction to trades courses and evening adult post-secondary Enzweiler Building Institute Courses. More resources and materials will be supplied through the grant to the Campbell County Area Technology Center for additional evening courses to round out the seven areas of construction offered in Campbell County in both locations. The mission of the Building Industry Association of Northern Kentucky is to promote and enhance the integrity and visibility of the construction industry and the members of the organization through advocacy, communication, education and political action.

Modern Luxury Meets Rustic Durability Since 1954, Florida Tile has been an innovator, marking many accomplishments, from building the first floor tile plant in the USA to introducing the first digitally printed products with our HDP – High Definition PorcelainŽ lines. Throughout our history Florida Tile has been a pioneer, but equally important, we have been a guideline for style. Offering products that are both practical and stylish is what we are all about, and tile never looked so good. Please visit us at our store or on the web for more about this product and more at www.floridatile.com.
