YPs and PWB Host Educational New Member Happy Hour

Last month, the KCHBA Young Professionals and Professional Women in Building Council hosted a new KCHBA member happy hour featuring a presentation by Kevin Mochel of 180 Your Marketing. Mochel provided a great evening of information teaching attendees how to better their business presence on TikTok and Instagram. A few key points from “TikTok and Instagram for Your Business”: According to Mochel, the number one rule when it comes to Instagram and TikTok is “interaction equals visibility.” It is also necessary to know what is appropriate content for a business or public profile versus your personal account(s).

Stay up to date on how the Instagram and TikTok algorithms are calculated. In June 2021, Instagram’s leadership announced the platform was “no longer a photo sharing app”, leaning into the trend of focusing on video as well as shopping, messaging and creator content. Arguably a major reason for this is TikTok’s rise in popularity and its influence on other major social media companies. Instagram now puts more value on interaction with video or reels than it does on photos. It is perhaps easier to create a local following on Instagram than on TikTok. But for both platforms it is necessary to decide whether a local audience or a national, or even international, audience is the goal. According to Mochel, it is quite difficult to be relevant and engaging to both audiences.

Raffle prizes given away at the end of the night included two gift baskets courtesy of Frontier Restoration. Katelen Walsh (North American Savings Bank) walked away with the “Summer BBQ” basket and Erin Curry (Don Julian Builders) was the recipient of the wine basket. The KCHBA YPs’ “Pool Party” basket was won by Madeline Troutt (Builder’s Stone & Masonry, LLC). KCPWB coffee and/or lunch “playdate” winners included Mara Proctor (CKF), Shelly Foster (Foster & Associates – The Signature Group), Graham Power (Canaan Stone Works) and Sara Ladd (Elevate Design + Build). Over 40 liquor and wine bottles were collected for the bottle pull station at the Bottle and Barrel Bash, PWB’s largest annual fundraiser taking place on Aug. 25 at Fiorella’s Event Center. Those who brought bottles were entered to win four tickets and a parking pass to the Royals vs. White Sox game on Aug. 9, courtesy of North American Savings Bank. Thank you to everyone who donated and congratulations to Carrie Hyer (Cedar Creek Development Co) for winning. Thank you to Denizen for sponsoring the food and drink for this event and to Convergence for providing the venue. Additional thanks to the 2022 KCPWB Education Sponsors, Elevate Design + Build and Engel & Völkers.
