2011/12 SEASON
HarrisburgSymphony.org
There is nothing quite like being in the audience at a live performance. No matter how many times you may have heard a piece, each performance brings out something new that you may not have noticed before, a spontaneous turn of phrase, a different interpretation, the unpredictable give and take between the players. I know that every time I step in front of the orchestra, no matter what the piece, I am striving for something new and fresh. The HSO musicians and I look forward to re-creating the special magic that defines each and every Harrisburg Symphony concert. We invite you to peruse our 2011/12 season brochure and join us at the Forum as we “Get INSIDE the Music!

Harrisburg Symphony Youth Orchestras TARA SIMONCIC, Music Director
Photo Credit Tara Simoncic: Mark Pynes, The Patriot-News Photo Credit HSYO musicians: Stephanie Dutton
The Harrisburg Symphony Youth Orchestra program fosters a creative environment where young musicians rehearse, are coached by professional musicians, and perform symphonic masterpieces for live audiences. There are two core ensembles: the Harrisburg Symphony Youth Orchestra (HSYO) for 9th-12th grade students and the Junior Youth String Orchestra (JYSO), a stringsonly ensemble for 6th-9th grade students. Under the leadership of Music Director Tara Simoncic, the HSYO and JYSO bring together top high school and middle school musicians from all over Central Pennsylvania. Admission to both ensembles is by competitive audition. The HSYO season includes fall, winter and spring performances, educational performances, a concerto competition, master classes, and collaborations with other cultural institutions. Both orchestras offer young musicians an opportunity
to hone their technique, learn challenging repertoire, develop discipline and a sense of teamwork. As they participate in a dynamic and stimulating ensemble experience, the young musicians make lasting friendships and discover a passion for music that continues throughout their lives.
