A COMMUNITY REMEMBERS A 10th Anniversary Musical Tribute
Join the Harrisburg Symphony as we present a cross-genre “Concert of Remembrance” on Sunday, September 11 at 3 pm. This concert marks the 10th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks. Local jazz legend Steve Rudolph will be joining us on the jazz-flavored first half, along with saxophonists Tim Warfield and Jonathan Ragonese, and vocalists Diane Wilson and J.D. Walter. On the second half, Stuart Malina conducts vocalists Sasha Piastro, Amy Yovanovich, Eric Rieger, and Damian Savarino, the Susquehanna Chorale, and the Harrisburg Symphony in a performance of Mozart’s Requiem.
TIMELESS SCARY SCORES Pops Is the Forum haunted? Be prepared for a concert of spooky chills and scary thrills with the HSO this Halloween weekend, October 29-30! Excerpts from Jaws, Psycho, the Twilight Zone and other musical delights await those brave enough to attend. We invite you to come in costume for some of the most ghoulish music ever written.
FROM RUSSIA with love The HSO 2011/12 subscription season opens with Masterworks concerts on September 24-25. The concert begins with Hungarian Rhapsody No. 2, the rousing showpiece by Franz Liszt. Prize-winning pianist Daria Rabotkina follows up her HSO debut in 2010 with Rachmaninoff’s first take on the romantic piano concerto. Concluding the concert, Stuart Malina conducts Prokofiev’s triumphant wartime Symphony No. 5.
The Seas will surge Soprano Lisa Daltirus joins the HSO on November 19-20 as the orchestra presents four sonic soundscapes, including Hovhaness’s serene mountain scenes in Mysterious Mountain, Barber’s nostalgic reminiscences of a gentler time and place in Knoxville: Summer of 1915, Ravel’s exotic look eastward with Shéhérazade, and Debussy’s surging portrait of the sea with La Mer (The Sea).
