Pamucak Beach Kusadasy (Turkey)
It was on a sunny Wednesday of July 2014, when our colleagues from Tantur in Turkey joined TUI Service to start a beach cleaning day in Pamucak beach and decided to be part of the Big Holiday Beach clean 2014. 41 volunteers joined this initiative, including reps and they collected 318 kgs of trash in 78 bags. In total they “made greener” 1,5 km of the beach selected. To give you an idea of how useful this was for the beach, they collected 143 beverage cans, 461 bottles (plastic & glass) 823 food wrappers or 520 grocery plastic bags…in total more than 3000 waste items!!!.
Old Lycian Road Fethiye (Turkey)
Also in Turkey, A&D´s support was key to the success of these beach cleanings and in Marmaris, Kusadasi and Altinkum – members from A & D provided transport free of charge to the beaches, as well as taking part in the litter pick up. In Fethiye - Yenal Yelken from Destination Services supported TUI UK´s clean up by liaising with the local Council to provide a rubbish truck to pick up the sacks of litter they collected, and also with the local Hospital to provide a first aid kit and rubber gloves. In total they collected more than 500 rubbish items from this beatiful road with exceptional views over the Fethiye coast.

Camel Beach Bodrum (Turkey)
34 of our colleagues in Turkey joined together on the 26th of July to clean up a total distance of 2km of the Camel beach in Bodrum and they helped to arrange the boat that was used for the press to be there‌ Colleagues from other source markets like TUI Poland, Belgium, Nederland, TUI Nordic, TUI Deutschland and TUI UK also joined this initiative.
AItken Spence Beach Heritance Ahungalle (Sri Lanka)
Sri Lanka’s largest Destination Management Company, Aitken Spence Travels organized its own ‘Big Holiday Beach Clean’ event in Ahungalla in July to support ‘Make Holidays Greener Month’. Kicking off with volunteers from Aitken SpenceTravels, Heritance Ahungalla and its surrounding local community the event attracted more than 150 participants who cleaned a 3Km beach stretch. 400kg of debris collected included various items of plastics, polythene, metal, foam, glass items, also 2000 cigarrette buts and 30 dead fish and more than 3000 pieces of fishing gear. After the beach clean the waste collected will be analysed to assist in better understanding the scale of the issue and implement additional solutions in the future. “We are delighted with the outcome of the drive. Sustainability is a key focus area for Aitken Spence Travels. We hope to encourage our customers across destinations on the importance of greener holidays and raise awareness on the issues of sustainability in destinations” noted Mr. Nalin Jayasundera, Managing Director of Aitken Spence Travels.

MALECON BEACH
Puerto Plata (Dom. Republic) Our colleagues from the Destination office in the Puerto Plata organized a third beach cleaning at the Malec贸n beach on the 26th of July. 35 adults and 13 children from the Juanillo School Camp cleaned a total distance of 2 kilometres, filling 28 waste bags with items like: 6 tires, 70 cigar tips, 116 plastic cups & plates, 238 glass & plastic bottles, 239 forks, knives or spoons, construction materials and even 10 T.V.麓s!!. We want to thank them all for their valuable contribution to this clean up initiative.
MACAO
Punta Cana (Dom. Republic) In Macao, kids from the Juanillo school camp volunteered in the Beach cleaning along with our colleagues. Before they started, one adult was assigned to each kid to better know and help each other and as you can imagine, it was so much fun!!. Also some colleagues involved their relatives and even their pets and at the end of the day they had a picnic together where they could share the experiences of a hard day´s work. In total 35 adults and 14 kids joined together to clean an estimated distance of 3km and filling 28 bags of waste‌Well done!!!!

Boca chica
Santo Domingo (Dom. Republic) In the Dominican Republic our colleagues decided to clean up 3 beaches at three different sites of the island: Santo Domingo, Puerto Plata & Punta Cana. In total 127 people from TUI UK, TUI Nederland, TUI Germany, Blue Travel and employees from Destination Services and kids from Juanillo school camp joined this initiative. In total they collected aproximately 5000 waste items and even 10 T.V.´s!

Aparthotel Las Dunas Cádiz (Spain)
14 volunteers from TUI España´s destination office in Cádiz put forward their own beach cleaning and very kindly invited more colleagues from other parts of the business like Ultramar Transport, reps from other TUI Touroperators from One Service project. They also managed to engage one of their clients: “Aparthotel Las Dunas” and their animation team..an d we can see in the pictures that they had a great time while being sustainable at the same time!.
In total they collected 8kg of waste in a total distance of 1,5 km of the beach

Mountain road La Hoya de la Cebada Gran Canaria (Spain)
In collaboration with the city council of Santa Lucia, the destination office of Gran Canaria organized a beach cleaning on a sunny Friday morning, thus joinning efforts to Make Holidays Greener from the different teams and departments in the destination of Gran Canaria. Ultramar Transport contributed with the coach and a fantastic driver taking us up to the mountain road to the area of La Hoya de la Cebada where we tidied up the area and collected over 17 bags of rubbish. The city council provided them with gloves, plastic bags and a nice sandwich for us all. Everyone who took part felt they had helped contribute to the local area whilst having laughs and mixing with their colleagues. As a note, we recommended the city council to provide the area with strategic placed “ash trays�
Playa de Corralejo ’ Fuerteventura (Spain)
In Fuerteventura, in the Canary Islands, they organised their Beach Cleaning on the 15th of August with a total of 37 participants and some relatives too. In the north of the island they cleaned up the beach area of the RIU hotels ‘Tres Islas’ and ‘Oliva beach’ where most of the customers are placed. In the south they concentrated on the beach area in front of the Robinson hotel and Morro Jable town. Participants from source markets like TUI Germany, TUI UK, TUI Nederland and Jetair collaborated with the organizers and members of Fuerteventura´s destination office who liaised with the local councils to obtain permission as well as cleaning material like gloves, waste bags etc. Joanne Walton, Destination Manager Fuerteventura liaised with the island´s council and the Tourism Board of Trustees to communicate the event. In total they filled 20 bags of waste and they found, among other things plastic bottles, cans, ropes from the boats and many many cigarettes and cigarette butts, and as Joanne says: “It is a shame for us that people are not more responsible as this kind of waste is very easy to be taken by each one of us”.
